Alright, here it comes the best parts are going to come from here on out. Also, yes that line from Agent Cleary is from Ultimate Spider-Man video game when the cops arrive and see Peter and Venom fight, I figured a line like that would fit Agent Cleary well.
Like last time I said this act will focus on people's thoughts on Spider-Man.
Also, I can't believe I forgot this in the last two chapters, but special shout-out and credit to RavageDarkness for the inspiration of the scene where Peter tells Betty, MJ, and Ned about him being Spider-Man. Check their story Spider-Man: Home Rebuilt on AO3, it's really good.
Act III (Part 1)
Daredevil and Spider-Man didn't know what to do. Well, they both had experiences with cops and government folk after them, however, this was Damage Control, and escaping them isn't an easy task.
"Spider-Man, we have to follow the truck," Daredevil suggested.
"I know, I know, but look at them. The first instance, we move, they'll shoot." Spider-Man pointed out.
"Which is why you have to swing me," Daredevil suggested although he didn't know how he was going to feel about that.
Spider-Man didn't hesitate to grab him, told his fellow hero to hold on tight, leaped, webbed onto a nearby helicopter, and began swinging.
"Fire!" Agent Cleary ordered. Gunshots were fired. Barely missing them, Spider-man used all of his strength to get away.
"Follow them! Move your asses!" Agent Cleary barked.
Spider-Man landed on top of a roof of a building. Daredevil told him to keep running and swinging. Spider-Man held his breath for a second as he and Daredevil ran across and jumped off the rooftop.
Daredevil held onto him as this building was the only one that didn't have any other buildings to jump across from. It was all street down there and buildings were side-to-side something only Spider-Man could help by swinging away from Damage Control.
THWIP!
He swings really fast, almost like he's an airplane, feeling the wind rushing, gravity overwhelming his suit, and flips in the air with Daredevil holding onto him.
THWIP!
He puts both hands on the web, holding onto it as his life depended on it. He lets his body and instincts do his movements for him as he kicks into the air to propel himself higher and then descends down further into the street.
THWIP!
Extending his legs to propel himself even higher up as he swings between two cars.
THWIP!
He grabs the web and climbs up fast and shoots another web onto a building.
THWIP!
Peter does the same thing, he did on the last web and also does a spin in the air.
THWIP! THWIP!
He shoots two webs at the same time to go faster.
A helicopter is following them and firing bullets.
MJ is watching the live-stream scared out of her mind, 'Please be careful, Peter.' Her thoughts kept saying that over and over.
Ned was eating dinner until his mom pointed at the TV and the live-stream was showing amazingly swinging with Daredevil on him. He didn't know what that was about, but he trusted Peter enough for him to explain the context.
Betty was also watching the live-stream, worried about her friend. Though she had to admit the web-swinging looked fun. She was also surprised that Peter is working with Daredevil of all people.
Foggy and Karen were at a bar as others gathered to watch what was going on on the TV. Their eyes widened as they saw Spider-Man swing Daredevil, assuming safely away from Damage Control.
'Please be careful, Matt.' This thought pondered into their minds over and over.
THWIP!
Peter flipped again in the air and shot another web.
THWIP!
He extended his legs and spun 360 degrees in the air and fired another web.
THWIP!
He widens his body to another spin and then makes sure Daredevil is still on him.
THWIP!
He swings and runs on the side of the building before jumping off it and then shoots another web.
BOOOOM!
Shit! A gunshot and this time it sounded close. In fact, too close.
BOOOOOOM!
He runs to another side of a building, before web-swinging to another direction, he swung into an alleyway before the light of a giant flashlight hit his eye blinding him and a gunshot hit his shoulder causing him to fall to the ground.
"Shit! Kid!" Daredevil called out as he too was falling.
MJ put her hands on her mouth and her eyes started to water. She yelled out, "NOOO!" No, it couldn't end like this, not after he just came back to her life after the forget spell was cast. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Any of this.
Ned was about to tear up, his best friend got shot at. His best friend, who he had forgotten because of the spell. Now seeing him get shot at like that and the bullet hitting him. That... that was too much for him to see.
Betty also put her hand on her mouth. She didn't know Peter all that too well. Heck, when she got her memories of him back, she still felt she didn't really know him that well. However, he saved her and her friends' lives back at London as well his Academic Decathlon team back at Washington. Seeing him get shot at like that was... was too heartbreaking. She also wondered how MJ was processing all of this.
Foggy and Karen while concerned about Matt's well-being, they were shocked at Spider-Man getting shot. They didn't know the hero all that well. other than what they hear on the news, but if Matt trusted him then he must be a good person to share the vigilante life with him.
Daredevil was surprised as he saw the kid free-fall from the shot he has just taken. He too was free-falling, and they don't stop falling, they'll hit the ground hard and most likely dead.
He was close to the kid as he quickly grabbed him, took out his Billy club, and fired it at a direction on one of the fire escapes. It clutched onto it as the duo were dangling from in the air.
He quickly went onto a fire escape, retracted his Billy club and climbed up the stairs. As he got onto the roof, Damage Control helicopter was following along.
On comms, Agent Cleary was shouting orders, "Take the shot when you see them both!"
The sniper smiled, "Yes, sir."
BOOOOM!
Daredevil trying to carry the kid ran as fast as he could. He knew where he needed to go as well. Matt needed to get to Claire otherwise the kid will die of bleeding out from the bullet. The smell was overpowering for the vigilante.
Matt could hear the heartbeat of the kid slowing and getting slower if he doesn't move fast enough.
"Don't die on me, kid." He uttered out as he musters all the strength he can to run and jump across rooftops to get to Claire.
BOOOM!
The gunshot echoes from behind. He honestly wished that Damage Control wasn't called. The world truly does have a way of working against you.
As he ran, he counted how many rooftops he would need to get to Claire. Most likely over 30 and from where the duo was, it was very far.
He cussed under his breath and Spider-Man tried to speak, "I'll... I'll swing us... to safety."
"Kid, you've done enough. No need to strain yourself." Daredevil said. He had to admit, kid has a mighty heart despite being injured he still wanted to get him and himself to safety away from Damage Control shooting at them.
Daredevil was about to go faster, but Spider-Man tugged him and said, "Please... I have a... healing factor."
While that impressed Matt, he wasn't sure how Spidey can get them to safety with a bullet wound or at least how long would his healing factor work. Time was not on their side.
"Spider-Man relax. I know a nurse that can help you." Daredevil pointed out. He ran fast again jumping across rooftops.
More gunshots could be heard from behind. Then he had an idea, the sewers would easier to go around and though a little slower, but he could still get to Claire.
He jumped down from fire escape to fire escape and tried to pry open the sewer lid. Gunshots could still be heard further away as Damage Control was getting closer and closer.
Spider-Man using his webbing and strength quickly pried open the sewer lid. The duo quickly jumped down. From there Spider-Man closed the lid as Damage Control gunmen searched the area.
Daredevil was heavily breathing as well as Spider-Man.
"Thanks," Spider-Man said.
"I should be thanking you," Daredevil said back.
Spider-Man then asked, "You said... you can take me... to a—-why am I feeling woozy?"
"You're losing a lot of blood and most likely will die. We have to head to her immediately. Come on!" Daredevil demanded as he helped Spider-Man up from where he sat, put his arm around his neck and they began to walk, heading towards back Hell's Kitchen.
After a good half an hour, Daredevil and Spider-Man climbed up the ladder and the web-head opened the sewer lid. They climbed out and Daredevil mentioned the nurse was up in a few floors and that they can't enter via main doors but by her fire escape.
As they did that with Daredevil helping Spider-Man getting up there. Claire was watching the news inside her apartment and a tap on the window made her jump.
She quickly realized it was Matt and his new vigilante friend, Spider-Man.
She came towards the window and instantly let them in.
"Holy shit... I saw the entire thing on the news. It's insane." Claire commented and then she noticed blood was dripping.
"He needs help!" Daredevil barked and Claire immediately got to work.
Spider-Man lays on her couch, bleeding and grunting in pain. He was shot where Kraven in the past few days dislocated his shoulders.
She took off his costume mainly his body shirt and gloves. The bottom parts were left as well as his mask. She noted a lot of injuries on his body, mostly healed that would've taken others days or weeks to heal. As she tried to take off his mask to check for injuries, Peter's hand grabbed hers.
"No," was all he said as he shook his head.
She sighed. Vigilantes and their secret identities. She got to work, and it took a good 30 minutes to stop the bleeding and try to remove the bullet.
Peter instantly fell asleep as the pain was taking its course.
"How is he?" Matt asked.
"He'll live. That injury will take time to heal." Claire mentions.
There was an awkward silence for a few minutes until Claire broke it.
"So, how'd you get into Spider-Man's business?" Claire asked.
"Long story," Daredevil began. "He came to me accidentally—"
Claire raised her eyebrow, "Accidentally?"
"He just came by to stop the Maggia from wreaking havoc in Hell's Kitchen even though I was going to do it and get some information about why they have the weapons and was investigating a theory of mine. We started off a little on the wrong foot with me trying to be territorial, but I noticed with his voice he was young..." Daredevil explained.
Claire's eyes widened. "Spider-Man's young? How young are we talking?"
"I don't know, but I just knew he was in way over his head whatever he was dealing with. And what he was dealing with isn't something a young person shouldn't ever have to go through." Matt said, looking over the kid's sleeping body.
Matt continued as he took off his mask, "In terms of how young we're talking, I'd say probably 17-18 years old."
Claire blinked and gasped. "Did he tell you?"
Matt shook his head. "I didn't want to pry, but there was something in his voice that just told me that he needed help. I can't imagine what he's gone through with his parents worried about him or someone else that loves him."
Claire sighed and looked at Spider-Man sleeping soundly. The fact that he's just a kid probably makes sense with all the craziness surrounding him on the news, especially with that incident in London and Mysterio's death. Even though he's almost an adult, but the few years before he was a minor simply stopping thieves, murderers, etc... It's not something a kid should do with their life. They should be happy, worry about dates or acne, and college.
"Does he have a family?" Claire asked.
Matt shook his head. "I mean I think he does. I never asked and I think they'd be concerned."
Claire nodded at that. "Do you think you can take him to his family?"
Matt nodded and said, "Yeah. When he wakes up, I'll do that."
"How's Luke?" Matt asked changing the subject.
Claire smirked and chuckled, "He's fine."
Matt smirked at that, knowing a friend of his is still doing fine.
"Do you think we can stay here for a bit?"
Claire sighed and was thinking this was all too crazy. She put her arms and said, "Sure. But you get out as soon as he wakes up."
Matt sat in a chair and just stared at the kid. Just what was this his story to become a vigilante... like what makes Spider-Man... Spider-Man? And he was pretty sure he remembered defending him in a trial against the charges of murdering Mysterio and doing a drone attack on London, so he knew his real name, but why couldn't he remember it. Actually, as a matter of fact, there were a lot of mysterious things about this kid that didn't make sense. He remembers seeing Spider-Man fighting a guy with metal tentacle arms on a bridge and no word about that ever since then came the fight at some forest where he was fixing the wires of poles according to that one caller made to the Bugle on that Jameson guy's show. Yes, he listens to that show but only to see what Jameson says about him, and on occasion Spider-Man was brought up. And then there was that tragic news of an apartment fight where Spider-Man was allegedly fighting someone inside that building, and it cost the life of a woman. Lastly, there was that Statue of Liberty incident, but no one knows exactly what happened other than Spider-Man and Doctor Strange were there. There had to be context to all of that.
Claire asked him a question, disrupting Matt's thought process, "You think it's true?"
Matt asked back, "What's true?"
"All the things they say about him?" She gestured her head to the web-head.
Matt shook his head. "No, not Spider-Man. I don't think a kid that tries to save people from danger would go down a route of evil... not unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Unless he saw something to make him go down that route," Matt said feeling concerned.
Claire shook her head again, trying to process all of that. She thought about Spider-Man being a kid and then thought if she had a kid acting like him what would that do to her. It's pretty scary to think about your own kid going out being a vigilante while everyone else is trying to kill you every night.
"His parents must be worried sick about him," Claire stated.
Matt nodded at that and then said, "I never would've imagined Spider-Man being a kid. I always thought maybe he was just some guy that like me wanted to bring justice and help people. I mean just look at the controversy with him. I don't think any kid can live through that. Live the life of a vigilante. It's just... it's just too dangerous for a kid like him."
"Well, of course, the people that love him would worry—"
"No not that..." Matt said bluntly.
Claire furrowed her eyebrows and asked, "Then what?"
"Balancing two different lives..." He said sadly. He remembered what it was like during his first years as Daredevil. It was a struggle honestly trying to keep the secret from Foggy and Karen.
Claire sighed and agreed, "Yeah, I can see that. This kid would probably be late to school all the time due to being Spider-Man."
Matt chuckled at that, it reminded him of the times he's been late to certain court cases due to his clients being defended against the injustices and corruption of Hell's Kitchen.
Peter is walking down the street... he starts to get scared as the street starts to decay and then after blown to bits and pieces as he falls through the street, and it turns into a Mysterio illusion.
"You told me you wanted to chase after that girl!" He hears Mysterio shout that, but he can't locate where he is.
A familiar cackle is heard. A pumpkin bomb is thrown as Peter tries to dodge it, but it's blown, and he gets heavily injured.
Goblin comes down with his glider and he mocks him, "Poor Peter! Too weak to send me home to die."
He starts laughing maniacally and starts throwing pumpkin bombs at everyone he loves.
MJ starts crying as the pumpkin bomb hits her and she's blown away by it. Her body is burnt from the flames that managed to get onto her.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Peter shouts in agony as seeing his girlfriend die like this was too emotional.
He instantly woke up screaming, "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
This startles both Matt and Claire. Matt quickly put his mask on and approached him.
Peter starts to do heavy breaths and tries to calm himself. He turns to see Daredevil looking at him and then also sees a woman he doesn't know. She looked very concerned about him probably because he just woke up screaming like he had a nightmare.
"You, ok?" Daredevil asks, feeling even more concerned about the kid.
Peter is still heavily breathing and tries to speak. "I'm... I'm ok..."
Matt could hear his heartbeat, he was fine, yes, but he said Spider-Man said he was ok, his heartbeat went a little fast meaning he was lying just now. Matt also decided not to pry any further because quite honestly the kid needed a huge amount of rest.
"Are you sure?" Claire asked.
"Yeah, it's just... I had a nightmare..." Peter didn't want to admit that he didn't know why he did. He guessed though since these guys were adults and Daredevil knows this lady, he might as well tell them a little about himself.
"Uh... who are you?" He asks the lady.
"I'm Claire," Claire introduces herself. "I'm the one who took the bullet out of you."
Peter was shocked at that. He just remembered he got shot at. Shot at! By Damage Control of all people. He puts his hands on his face (albeit he was still wearing his mask), and he looked back up at her. "Thank you."
Claire smirked at that and just said, "No problem, Spider-Man."
He quickly turned his head to Daredevil, "So, I was shot at... and you took us to here?"
He nodded and just said, "Yeah, I know. It's the only place I know of where I can go and have Claire patch us up."
"Speaking of which, are you hurt, Daredevil?" Claire brought it up in amusement.
Matt just shook his head, "I'm fine."
"Anyway, we gotta go." Daredevil said.
"Go where?" Spider-Man asked.
"My place."
"Your place?"
"My place." Daredevil repeated.
"Why?"
"Because you and I need to lay low. I'm pretty sure you have folks at wherever you live worried about you, but you can't go out being Spider-Man, otherwise, you're gonna get shot again." Daredevil said bluntly.
Peter sighed and frowned underneath his mask. The truth was he used to have folks waiting for him at his home. Keywords: used to. His parents died in a plane crash when he was six, his uncle died due to his selfishness of not stopping that burglar, and then his aunt because of his selfless act to cure the villains... to cure Osborn. That and the fact he allowed Dr. Strange to cast a spell to make everyone in the world forget about Peter Parker. He has no one to go to, well, except his friends, but even then, he wasn't the same kid he once was. Now, he's going to be in another place that isn't even his apartment at all.
"Something the matter?" Daredevil asked wondering what the kid was thinking about all of a sudden or at least why he was spaced out.
"I was just... never mind it's...I'll go with you to your place, but how will we get there?" Spider-Man asked.
They both looked to Claire, and she sighed.
"I'll be waiting for downstairs." She said as she got her keys.
After twenty minutes of driving and getting out of the car, Matt took Spider-Man to an alleyway where they could climb up to his apartment. Spider-Man instead of wall-crawling just ran up the building. This impressed Matt reminding himself to have that conversation about their powers perhaps later on.
They entered the apartment through the balcony and if Peter wanted to be honest with himself, it was very convenient to have.
"Ok, just lay low in that room over there," he points to his bedroom.
"Um... am I going to sleep in my costume?" Peter asked.
Daredevil replied, "Well, there should be..." Instead of finishing his sentence, he went and got extra clothes for Spider-Man to change into.
"These will be your clothes and just stay in this room, ok." Daredevil suggested.
Spider-Man nodded and did what he was told.
"Hey," Daredevil started. "For the sake of our privacy, if you ever feel... the need to tell me about yourself or your identity and so on, I wouldn't mind."
Spider-Man nodded at that and then went into the room, closing the door.
Matt's phone rang, he quickly took off his mask, and picked it up.
"Hello," Matt said. It was Foggy on the other end.
"Matt, thank God, you're alive."
"Listen, this isn't the time." Matt pleaded.
"Karen and I are gonna come over to your place."
"No don't..."
"Matt, you really need to trust your friends. We saw everything man."
"Fine, but when you come over, I have to warn you."
Foggy heard that but didn't want to question what Matt meant by that.
After a good forty minutes passed by with everything being quiet, a knock on the door was heard.
Matt jolted towards the door and opened it to reveal Foggy and Karen were outside, looking worried at him.
Matt immediately shushed them. "You, guys, might not want to use my real name."
Foggy and Karen shared a concerned look. "Why?" They both asked.
Matt gestured for them to come in and they did so. Matt put it bluntly, "Spider-Man is here."
Foggy blinked twice and then asked, while pointing at his entire apartment, "Here?"
Matt nodded, "Yeah, here."
Karen also blinked twice and then asked, "Why would you bring him here? Damage Control is looking for him and they almost killed you two?"
"I know. But it seemed to me, we didn't have a choice." Matt said.
"I'm not gonna lie that web-swinging was amazing to see on the news with you holding onto him. But I agree with Karen, what the heck is wrong with you?" Foggy asked while raising his hands in the air.
Matt gulped and sighed. He listens in on the room Spider-Man is in. The kid is asleep, but it also sounds like he's been crying as he could smell the tears from where he was.
"He just needs help. I'd rather you guys not to go into that room. He's asleep." Matt pointed out.
"Ok, but..." Foggy was about to say his real name, but had to stop himself, "... but dude... he brings a lot of controversy with him. I know you two are probably like partners in this vigilante life, but he just has a lot of baggage."
"And I don't?" Matt asked.
"You had to deal with corrupt cops, crazy ninjas, the Punisher, and Fisk. Spider-Man literally has the entire government after him now. And pretty they could send in an entire army after him. Maybe even that Secretary Ross guy because of the Accords." Foggy blurted out.
"Remember when I said he's young, Foggy. I think he might be younger than we think. Plus, he needs help." Matt surmised.
"When you say young... how young?" Karen asked.
"I think around 17-18," Matt said.
Karen's and Foggy's eyes widened. The first thoughts in their mind was the fact that Spider-Man is way too young and that concerned them.
"Spider-Man's a minor? Or even legally an adult? Holy Hell..." Foggy touches his forehead in frustration and then paced himself around the apartment.
"And he's probably been around since 2016..." Foggy continued.
"And blipped... if you consider his age..." Karen pointed out as it is 2025.
Foggy got worried and told himself that this situation might go out of hand.
Matt tried listening in on Spider-Man, sound asleep. Hopefully by morning, he could go back to his home where his family would be worried sick about him.
Karen asked, "And he's asleep here?"
She gestured to the bedroom as Matt nodded.
"How much do you know about him?" Karen asked.
"Other than assuming his age, nothing," Matt replied.
"But in the morning I might re-introduce myself to him, at least ask him why he's in this life." Matt suggested.
"Ok..." Foggy began. "Do you need anything from us?"
Matt's lips pursed and then he said, "Honestly, I think it's best we all help him. Claire patched him up, so he should be fine. But I think we need to have an honest conversation about him being Spider-Man."
"You want him to talk to him to get out of the vigilante life? Why?" Karen asked, though deep down she knew. Spider-Man was practically a minor starting out and being a vigilante is illegal and plus Damage Control is after him.
"He's just a kid. It seems like he doesn't know what he's doing. And like you said Foggy, he does bring a lot of baggage with him. Now I'm sure he's done good for the people of Queens and Manhattan, but eventually a life he's going to have will become dangerous and to be quite honest, it's not a life a kid should have." Matt explained.
"And if he refuses?" Foggy asked.
"It's his choice. But I do want to get to him to let him know that a life like this can't be for him. At least not at his age." Matt said.
Karen nodded, "It seems like a good idea." She thought about what his family might think of him being Spider-Man. She couldn't imagine the worry the parents must go through about their kid every night fighting crime and almost getting killed like what happened tonight with Damage Control.
"Do we know his one of his parents' number? We should probably call them and have them pick up their son?" Karen suggested.
"Good idea," Foggy commented.
"We should also get some sleep, talk to him in the morning." Matt suggested as he gestured Foggy and Karen where to sleep.
"Um what about our clothes?" Karen asked.
Matt said, "We'll close the firm tomorrow. So just stay like this, we'll talk to the kid in the morning, sort this all out and all of us can live out our day."
Foggy and Karen wanted to go back to their places and probably get extra clothes, but it seemed like a waste of time and they both went to their guest rooms and sleep.
Matt laid on his couch and fell asleep.
