For the reviewer that is saying that the big bad is Beck being alive, I do apologize, but that's not where I'm going with this story. But it's a good guess to think about.
Act III (Part 2)
Peter woke up, seeing it was 7:00 am on the clock. He felt groggy and yawned. Gosh, he was so tired.
He looked at his phone to see he was getting 50 calls from Happy, unknown numbers (most likely Nick Fury), and over 100 text messages from Ned, MJ, and Betty.
They were all saying the same thing:
Peter, r u alright?!
Call me, Peter?! Please!
The majority of them are MJ who texted the longest out of the three up until 2:45 am. He honestly wished he would stop worrying about his friends.
He instantly called MJ. She picked up and he told her, "Hey, MJ..."
"Peter, oh my God... are you ok?" She said with fright in her voice.
"I'm ok... I'm ok... I went to whomever Daredevil knew and they got the bullet out. I'm fine. Healing factor and all that kicks in." Peter states.
There are little sounds of her tearing up and even though it's a bit incorrect to try and calm someone through the phone, Peter couldn't help but try to get her to calm down. "Hey, hey, hey, hey, listen don't cry... don't cry... I'm fine... I'm a 100%... 110% really. Don't cry, MJ."
"I can't lose you again..." Those words stung Peter's heart. It stung him as if you were to break the glass. She eventually ended the call. Now he was getting worried about her. So, he sent a few texts saying they should talk. No reply occurred as of yet, but he knew she would respond back.
Knock, knock...
"Put on your mask, I'm coming in." It was Daredevil speaking.
Peter did what he was told and put on his mask. Daredevil entered the room and observed all around him.
He grabbed a chair and set it beside Peter. The vigilante sat down on it and unbeknownst to Peter from Daredevil's perspective he was trying to make sure he was alright, but from Peter's perspective, it looked like he was going to be mad at him and was preparing for a shouting match with him. He didn't know why he was getting that feeling, but it was there.
"I'm proud of what you did last night, kid." Daredevil started, confusing Peter.
"You're not gonna scream at me?" Peter asked, still confused.
"Why would I do that? You saved my life and vice versa." Daredevil simply replied.
"It's just... it's just I screwed it all up... we could've followed the truck." Peter stated firmly.
Daredevil made a realization and said, "We'll get them next time. Don't worry about it. Just save your strength and all that and we'll meet tonight."
"I don't think we can do this again tonight, Daredevil." Peter outright stated.
Daredevil was perplexed by this. Where was this coming from? "Kid, what are you—"
Peter let it all out, "I really messed up, ok... Mysterio's crew is on the streets because I failed to capture them... if I did, one of them wouldn't have called Damage Control! And they wouldn't have fired at me! God... I am insane..."
Daredevil was a bit bewildered by that outburst, "Kid... is there something going on with you?"
Peter didn't want to say anything and but still said something, "We don't even know each other, so why should we continue working together?"
Daredevil sighed, he knows he has to do this. "Kid, I'm going to take off my mask. I'll probably assume you'll want to do the same thing. It's your choice. But I'll reveal everything about myself, and soon you can do the same when you're ready. I'm also doing this because we share this life. Can you keep my identity a secret?"
Peter nodded.
"Promise?"
Peter nodded again.
"Ok," he starts to take off his mask to reveal...
Peter's mask eyes widened in shock. He didn't expect Daredevil to be...
"My name is Matt Murdock. I'm sure you have heard of me. I'm an attorney at Nelson & Murdock & Page. My father was a boxer. A famous one that people around Hell's Kitchen have all heard of. His name was Jack Murdock. He was... taken. He couldn't lose a match because I didn't want him to lose, and the people who wanted him to lose, killed him. I blame myself for it." Matt paused.
Peter could relate to that in a sense after what happened with his Uncle Ben.
"I used to have sight... then one day I saved an old man from being hit a truck, it was transporting barrels of radioactive wastes. And whatever was in the radioactive waste that fell onto my eyes. Whatever happened, happened and now my senses are dialed up to an eleven." Matt paused as he wants to see if Spider-Man wants to talk, so far, no response so he keeps going.
Peter smirked at the phrase Matt just said, as he said something like that to Mr. Stark when they first met.
"I was trained by a man called Stick and eventually he left. He taught me how to use my senses. You see my powers are some sort of... radar sense… I could hear, smell, etc. better than the average person. Now that's how I got my powers and training, but it isn't exactly how I became Daredevil." Matt explained, reminded of the time he told Foggy when he found he was Daredevil.
"There was a girl… I kept hearing her cry... her father was just going into her room every night... and I just… I felt I needed to do something about it… That was my first time as Daredevil." Matt stated firmly.
Peter didn't know what to say. A blind lawyer by day, vigilante by night. Also, considering the fact that Matt Murdock was his defense attorney during the trial of the "murder" of Mysterio.
"So, what about you, Spider-Man? What's your story?" Matt asked.
Peter wasn't too sure if he should reveal his identity to Matt. Well, first off, it might a little insensitive because he's blind, so he wasn't even sure if Matt would regain his memories of him.
"Well, listen, Mr. Murdock…. This might come across as rude. Insensitive. But when I reveal myself to you, you will in a second remember everything about me, but I'm not sure if it'll work due to your… condition." He says all of that awkwardly not wanting to offend the lawyer's disability.
Matt, however, was puzzled as to what Spider-Man was talking about.
"My life has been getting complicated, so if I reveal to you who I am, be ready for your questions," Spider-man said as he starts slowly unveiling his mask, he takes it off completely to reveal himself to Daredevil.
In an instant, memories came flooding his mind. Matt shook it off because it was feeling weird.
"Peter?" He uttered out of his mouth. He remembered everything now, from defending Peter Parker in a trial and catching the brick that one time and so on.
"What happened? What did you do?" Matt asked, having a sense of worry in his voice.
Peter went on to explain everything from the colleges rejecting him and his friends, the spell, the Multiverse, the villains, May's death, the Liberty fight, etc., and after that he was done, Matt didn't know what to say to that.
He was rather silent, processing all of it. He said, "I… I don't know what to say to that…. But I guess it lines up with what I remember about you. I'm also sorry about your aunt."
"It's ok, I still try to go to her grave and visit her," Peter said.
He then said, "And here I thought I was going to have a conversation with you about how young you are and why you shouldn't be doing this."
Peter blinked, "What? Why?"
"I don't think it'd be good on my conscious to let someone as young as you die," Matt said simply.
"Oh."
Matt sighed and then pointed out, "You don't have to do this, but I gave my origin and how I became Daredevil… I guess it's your turn."
Peter rubbed his forehead and just said, "I can talk about that, but maybe at another time. Much like with the forget spell story, how I became Spider-Man is not for the faint of heart."
Matt nodded and thought about it Peter just said, 'Not for the faint of heart.' What did he mean by that? Assuming a terrible tragedy occurred, how bad was it for him? The questions pondered Murdock's mind, but he stopped thinking about them and respected Peter's wishes.
"Wait, Mr. Murdock, I have the photos I've taken last night," Peter pointed out.
Matt tilted his head out of confusion and then realized what he meant. "The photos… that woman that called Damage Control on us…"
"If I could just print them and get them to the newspaper, I work at then Daredevil is off the hook," Peter said.
"What about Spider-Man?" Matt asked.
"I have that robber pretending to be me, I gotta take care of him, and then I can clear my name," Peter said proudly. Matt gave a huge smirk at that.
"Also, how would I get out of here?" Peter asked Murdock.
Matt suggested he doesn't go out as Spider-Man due to Damage Control trying to find him. Instead, what he should do is get out of the apartment with Murdock and his friends will take him to his place. If not, Peter could just take an Uber, Lyft, etc…
Peter went with the second option as he didn't want Murdock's friends to be involved. Matt smiled and said as soon he changes his clothes, use the bathroom, and so on, he could go.
After a few minutes of changing clothes, being in the bathroom, and so on, Peter exited Murdock's apartment and contacted an Uber to go at least to his place.
He opens the door to his apartment, expecting MJ to be there, but she wasn't. It was probably better that she wasn't here after everything that happened last night. Jeez, he got shot at by federal agents chasing him and Daredevil down. His phone rang and it was Happy.
Oh, boy, he was going to get it now. He answered it, "Hey, Happy—"
"Don't 'Hey, Happy' me! What the hell is wrong with you? I told you not to be Spider-Man for a few days! And what do you do? Get shot at by the Feds and work with another vigilante behind my back!"
"I know… I know. I'm sorry. I really am sorry, it's just-I'll tell you all about it when the whole robber situation dies down." Peter said vaguely.
"Listen, Peter… we really need to talk. I'm honestly worried about you and you scared the shit out of me last night when I saw you…. get shot like that. Just—and heed my wo0rds on this-just don't be Spider-man for a few days."
"Ok, Happy," Peter said back.
Peter headed to the Bugle and found out that Betty took a day off.
He thought to himself, it was because of how he shot last night. That must've scared the entirety of New York. All because of that imposter's robbing wearing a similar costume to him.
It was irking him to at least find the imposter before this starts getting out of hand. He has to develop the photos right away and give them to either Jameson or Robbie.
After twenty minutes, the photos develop, Peter prints them, and immediately sees Robbie. He heads for him, almost cutting off his way to get to his coffee.
"Mr. Robertson!" Peter calls out.
"What?" He asks back.
"I have… I have something important from last night. About the woman who called Damage Control on Spider-Man and Daredevil. I have evidence that she was working with those men." He hands him the photos and Robbie looks at them and his eyes widened.
"How did you get these?" Robbie asks in astonishment.
"Lucky shots," was all Peter said.
"I'll get these to Jonah immediately," he said gleefully.
Peter walked down a familiar place, the area where his old apartment was. The area where everyone once knew he was Spider-Man. As he was walking, he spotted a familiar location that gave him a sense of nostalgia, Mr. Delmar's deli.
He hasn't been to that place in such a long time. The last time, he saw him was before the trip to Europe.
Europe, of course, is the catalyst for all of his problems. If he hadn't gone on that trip, he wouldn't have had to meet Beck or fight the drones, get framed for his "murder" and then get rejected from every university causing him to go to Strange and mess with the Multiverse. Any mention of Europe brought a lot of terrible memories for him.
He muttered to himself, "Thanks a lot, Beck. You caused this for me... you won in the end..." He walked down the street and was contemplating whether he should or shouldn't go inside the deli. It wouldn't hurt so much, would it? Parker thought to himself.
He entered the deli and he saw something that shocked him... it was a picture of her... of May Parker.
He was tense and froze at seeing the picture. The picture on the wall and below it said, "May Parker, RIP".
"Can I help you?" A voice called out to Peter, and he saw it was coming from Mr. Delmar.
He felt frozen seeing the man again. His hair got longer the last time they met.
"Can I help you?" Mr. Delmar asked again, wondering why this customer was just standing there.
Peter stopped being awkward and got up to the counter and ordered his usual before the spell was cast.
"That'll be $5," Delmar said as he went to do the order. He came back to the counter and said, "Your order will come."
Peter decided on making some small talk, "So, how was your day?"
"My day? It was ok. You?" Delmar replied.
"It was ok, too," Peter added.
"Have I seen you around before?" Delmar asked, looking at Peter curiously.
"No," Peter said, getting worried if Delmar were to remember him.
"Hm, you remind me of somebody, I just can't place who?" Delmar said while rubbing his chin. He waved it off, "Eh, never mind it'll come to me."
"So, what happened to her?" He gestured to the picture of May Parker.
"Her?" Delmar could be seen almost having watery eyes but didn't shed a tear in front of his new customer.
"She died... she died in that building the one where Spider-Man fought someone, there was footage from the Bugle of that flying terrorist or whatever he was blowing up police cars... everyone in the community was shocked to hear what happened," Delmar said with a hint of anger and sadness coming from his voice.
"I just... I just hope they catch the bastard that... killed her… The one that's responsible," Delmar said almost sounding like he was going to cry.
Peter had an instant look of regret and guilt on his face. It was written all over it. He asked, "Do you blame Spider-Man for her death?"
"Spider-Man? No... the guy's a hero... saved me and my cat one time after being blasted by a weird laser gun of whatever it was that blew this store. And I don't care about what that Jameson guy says on the TV. Spider-Man is a hero." Delmar states proudly.
Peter let those words hit him, but there was something blocking his way from letting them make him feel happy about it.
'I'm not a hero... I'm not a hero...' He kept thinking to himself.
"What do you think of Spider-Man then if he's a hero to you?" Peter asked.
Delmar pondered at that and kept thinking. "Hm… I don't know… I just felt like he was trying to do the right thing... but the media hound him, especially the Bugle. When I found out that Spider-Man killed Mysterio, I didn't believe it. It just felt like a bunch of crap... and then there was that incident with the bridge with that tentacle guy. And then the Statue of Liberty broke because of him fighting some people there... I don't know who they were, but I hoped they were stopped. So, you know as much as the media and the government tries to make him look like the bad guy... he proves himself to be not a bad guy."
Peter gave a slight smirk at that. Perhaps it was something he needed to hear every now and then.
"Anyway, your order is here," Delmar said as he gave him his sandwich in a bag. Peter grabbed it, gave money, and was about to go his way when Delmar asked, "You got a name?"
Peter turned around to face him and replied, "Peter... my name is Peter."
"Peter... that's a nice name," Delmar said.
Peter exited the deli and walked down the sidewalk hoping for a peaceful day.
Now Peter knew he was going to get it now from his friends. They were probably going to ask a million questions about how he knows Daredevil and so on. Boy, those are going to get annoying.
He entered Peter Pan's and long and behold his friends stared at him as he came. He gulped awaiting the reaction he was going to get.
Ned came up and gave him a huge hug, "Oh, dude, I'm glad you're alright."
Peter hugged him back and did not expect that reaction if he was honest with himself.
"So," Betty began. "When you were going to tell us, you were working with him?" She gestured to the news playing on the TV in the corner talking about the Spider-Man/Daredevil escape.
"Alright, guys, I can easily explain that one. To be quite fair, the day I was going to tell you guys who I really was, the night before I met him by pure coincidence. He was looking into something, most likely something similar I was looking into, and he wanted an alliance. So, we were doing patrol together for two nights." Peter explained.
That surprised his friends, but they wanted to know more.
"Do you know who he is?" MJ asked bluntly.
Peter nodded, "I do. I won't say who he is because it'll surprise you all. And I promised to keep his secret."
MJ, Betty, and Ned wanted to pry more, but they kept to themselves about it.
"Wait, what do you mean by surprise us?" Betty asked.
"I mean like you won't believe it, you know," Peter stated.
MJ then spoke up, "Ok, that's enough, interrogating Peter on that. Speaking of which Peter?"
Peter adamantly looked at her and wondered what she wanted.
"You mind coming with me on a walk to a park or maybe going to a restaurant, you know your choice?" MJ asked.
Peter's eyebrows raised and said, "Oh, you're asking me out on a date," he chuckled a bit. MJ found his laugh to be very cute and had a little blush on her face, but thankfully none of them noticed it.
"Yeah, sure, I think the restaurant one would be a good date," Peter suggested. "I know a place where we can get Thai food."
"Alright, what time?" She asked.
He smiled a bit and said, "I'll pick you up at seven. Good time?"
MJ also smirked at that, "Yeah… that'd be really great."
Peter was in his apartment trying to get dressed for his date. Hopefully, no criminals decide to ruin it for him and MJ. The clothes were just casual, he even texted MJ to just wear casual as well. He just wore something similar to what he once wore in Prague when he walked with her on that bridge.
After exiting his apartment building, he went across a few streets to find the location where he and MJ could meet up. To be quite honest, he was very nervous about this date, due to the last time they went on a date, which was just taking MJ swinging around, his identity as Spider-Man got revealed to the public. He was hoping nothing like that would ever happen again.
He got to the location and there she was. Peter was just stunned by her beauty; he couldn't find the right words coming out of his mouth. She wore a nice yellow sundress with black flats and a small jacket. Her hair was very nice, too. She had a ponytail like the last time they went their separate ways since the forget spell cast by Doctor Strange.
"Wow," were the words uttered by him.
"You know you have a habit of staring at girls for too long," MJ amused.
Peter blinked and then shook his head, "Wha—no, no, I was just- "
"I'm just teasing you," MJ said smirking.
"Right," Peter said while cracking a smile and chuckling a bit.
"So, what restaurant are we going to?" MJ asked.
"Oh, you'll love it," Peter began. They went down a bit to an old familiar place where his old apartment, the one where he and May used to live, and kept walking until they would reach it.
"This is the place," Peter said excitedly.
MJ pondered at it. It looked good, but she wondered why this place specifically when it's near his old home.
The couple entered and were greeted by a waiter, he gave them their seats and they sat down. The waiter gave them their menus and Peter ordered them instantly. MJ, however, was taking her time. In a few seconds, she ordered as well. The waiter took their menus and let them know, that the chef would be doing it. There was barely anyone in the restaurant, so it kind of made having a conversation a little awkward.
"So…" Peter just said.
"So…" MJ copied him.
Yeah, this is going to get awkward, they both thought to themselves.
"So, how's work?" MJ asked, awkwardly.
Peter smirked at her attempt at making conversation, "Uh… it's fine. It's been getting hectic cause Jameson always wants me at every Spider-Man sighting ever shown. But other than that, it's fine. I get to see Betty every day, although she gets nervous around me because she now knows I'm…." he gestured the web-shooting with his hands, he didn't have web-shooters on him, so he wasn't firing any. "And it gets a little weird."
MJ chuckled at that, "So, does she laugh every time Jameson rants about you, while not knowing you take selfies of yourself?"
Peter bit his lip, which turned into a huge smirk. "Yeah, yeah she does."
"But anyway, enough about me, what about you? How are you holding up?" Peter asked, looking directly into her beautiful brown eyes.
MJ looked a bit saddened by that question, hoping Peter didn't notice, he did, but he didn't pry on it. She rocked back and forth on her chair and then asked, "I'll give you an answer if you can answer my question first."
Peter was bewildered by that response but went along with it. "Yeah, sure?"
"Do you remember your family? Like your mom and dad?" Peter nodded at that. "Do you remember what they were like to you?"
Peter was a bit astonished by that question, he didn't even know how to answer it, but he was going to try.
"That's a bit tough to answer, but… my parents were Richard and Mary Parker, I remember they were really loving. Caring. We used to do picnics with Uncle Ben and… Aunt May. Then one night, they left, when I was six years old. They died in the plane crash… Now I have no idea why they went to that plane, but I was so saddened that they died, my aunt and uncle took me in," Peter explained, hoping at least it was a good answer. He also wondered where she was going with this.
MJ had a very sad look in her eyes, Peter couldn't pinpoint what the sadness was about, but he was willing to hear her out.
"You asked me how I'm holding up…. Before the spell my dad was instancing on me breaking up with you," MJ started.
Peter's eyes widened, but he didn't bother to respond. He honestly wanted to listen and learn more about his girlfriend.
"Because of MIT…. Because of your vigilantism… I always argued with him about how you're a good person…. But he wouldn't listen…. every time I open my mouth, he just shoots me down…... even when we were together and the Mysterio thing happened, he's done nothing but makes fun of you. At first, he liked you, but ever since Beck…. He changed his opinion quickly…... He just wants to bring me and my mom down with him because he's just a sad, pathetic man…. He leaves the family when I'm a child and comes back when I start high school…..." She started getting angrier and looking to burst into tears, but she holds it in.
Peter gulped and just stated, "I… I don't even know what to say to that. MJ, I'm sor-"
"Just save it," MJ waved it off. "There's no need to apologize."
"Every night, I kept thinking of running away from that apartment… away from my dad," she shook her head as if she was ashamed of admitting this, Peter noticed that about her and touched her hand in support and nodded at her to keep talking to him.
"I keep telling myself why should I live there? Who says I should? You'd think he'd be happy for me, even when I got into MIT, again… No… every time I mention it, he scoffs and shoots down the idea I could succeed, he just…" she started panting. A tear leaked from one of her eyes.
"He doesn't treat me like a human being, Peter," MJ said while tearing up.
That broke Peter's heart, he didn't know she dealt with that. In all honestly, he wished he had this conversation with her if Mysterio hadn't revealed his identity to the public. They could've had plenty of time to plan to go away together to MIT and live their happy lives. Why did things have to turn out this way? He was her boyfriend protecting her from his life as Spider-Man, but what's the point of being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man if you don't know what's been going on with the people you love and how their lives have been? If Peter was going to be responsible, he has the chance now.
"I'll meet them." He stated.
"What?" MJ asked, astonished that he suggested that.
"I said I'll meet them. I'll meet your parents," Peter told her. MJ stared at him like he was from another planet.
"I don't think that-" MJ got interrupted.
"No, listen. Your dad doesn't remember me because of the spell. If I introduce—scratch that, re-introduce myself to him, it'll probably help. We can move away together. Get married and move away together." Peter said.
MJ smiled at the part where he said, 'Get married and move away.' "You're serious?" MJ asked.
Peter nodded and said, "Yeah, I'll meet them, hopefully, it'll go well. Your dad will most likely like me again. And if all goes well, we go away together."
MJ's lips twitched into a sad smile. "And if it doesn't work?"
Peter chuckled a bit, "Your dad can kiss my ass. Cause I love you, MJ. I'm not going anywhere without you."
His hand touched hers and they stared into each other their eyes. MJ blinked as Peter put his lips on hers and they had a powerful kiss, much more powerful than the last time at the apartment. They stopped as they saw the waiter staring at them trying to give them their food.
"Lovebirds," he commented on them as he placed the plates and walked away.
They both blushed and just sat in silence, slowly eating their food. Peter barely touched his, although they ate in awkward silence.
MJ picked up on that and commented, "You're barely touching your food."
Peter glanced at her and said, "Yeah, I'm aware…... it's just this place gives me a sense of nostalgia. I used to come here with May after she couldn't cook dinner via burning it."
MJ blinked and then asked, "Have you had time to mourn her?"
Peter just stared at his food and took a few bites, before replying, "No…."
That broke MJ's heart to pieces. She knew how May and Peter cared about each other. Unlike her father, May treated him and her like human beings, even to the point of caring for others. They were too good for this world.
"Do you want to visit her?" MJ asked.
Peter shook his head immediately, "No… no… I visit her when I can… as well as Ben's…"
MJ looked to the side and then back at Peter. He asked her, "You were so worried about me this morning? Are you fine?"
MJ took a deep breath and replied, "That image of you getting shot is literally planted into my brain…. I thought you were gonna die…" She starts to tear up a bit.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey," Peter says quickly. "I'm here. I'm fine. I'm not going anywhere." He gulped and placed his hand on hers.
"I was so terrified of last night," Peter stated.
"So was I," MJ said back.
"I was gonna call you, but I was in so much pain," Peter said.
"How'd you get the…" She makes a gun gesture with her hand and shoots herself with it.
Peter replies, "Daredevil knew someone who could take it out, I honestly owe him everything."
MJ nodded at that and then she saw Peter's eyes widen as he was staring at something. Was it his tingle tingling?
She turned to see what he was looking at and then her eyes widened.
Peter got up from his chair and stared at the TV.
"No…" were the only words he uttered out of his mouth.
On the TV, it was showing a news bulletin that said, "BREAKING NEWS: Spider-Man Murders Two Cops."
Alright, I'll end it there. Originally, I was going to have Nick Fury be at the dinner scene and talk to Peter and MJ and Peter go back to his apartment and see the news of the imposter Spider-Man.
Also, let me know what you think of the dinner scene, and tell me if I did a good job with the romance or if I need a little work. I based it off a little bit from Ultimate Spider-Man issues #47-50 where Mary Jane goes on a rant about her dad.
And before any of you ask, I know a lot of fics make it that Michelle doesn't have a good relationship with her mother based on the line, "My dad will kill you!" from NWH, but in the MCU wiki, it states that her dad left her when she was young and came back when she started high school and in NWH she doesn't like the name 'Watson.' Assuming this is because she doesn't like her father, but who knows maybe the next trilogy will go into it more.
