"I'm over camping," Donno declares, holding his phone up while he lays flat on his back in bed.
Ren smiles ruefully, staring back at him. "If I had known that this would become so complicated, I would've suggested someone else for it all. I didn't mean to drag you into some unending mess."
"Not your fault," he sighs. "I had a couple outs but stayed." He looks frustrated, rolling over onto his side to grab a bite of the sandwich waiting on the table next to his bed.
"You stayed for Tonya," Ren offers, and Donno's eyes flick back to the phone. "It makes sense, she's newer to all of this than either of us, and she needs advice. A guiding hand."
"Yeah," he says. "She's smarter than anyone realizes though."
"Learned from the best I guess," Ren says smugly.
Donno huffs around the bite of bread and meat he'd managed and drops back down onto the bed, swallowing. "Yeah, I guess."
"What's tomorrow looking like?" Ren asks after a few moments of shuffling papers around on her desk.
"Unless Sunny comes back around again, guess just restaurant stuff. Gotta new recipe I wanna give a try." Donno finishes his sandwich and eyes the phone again. "Maybe if things quiet down on the Paige front, Tonya and I could come visit or something."
"I'd like that," Ren says warmly. "Just give me a day or two's notice so I can make sure there aren't any upcoming meetings."
"Will do," Donno says. "Same time next week?"
Ren nods. "Of course. Talk to you then."
Donno watches until the screen turns dark, then drops his head back against the pillows, already dozing off.
