The Princess and the Pyromancer

Chapter 1

It was a sunny day in Arendelle, and a black haired young man was wiping the sleep from his eyes, which were red. A strange color, some said his eyes, and his powers, were evidence of a bargain with Satan himself… but this young man, named Wolfgang, or more appropriately, Prince Wolfgang von Reikelt, was actually a good Christian… he was proud to say Protestant man. He viewed his power, mastery over fire, as a gift… not from the devil, but from the other side. He was here in Arendelle's royal palace for the second day, a week before the coronation of Queen Elsa. Wolfgang headed to the city to sample some local pastries, and some of that delicious Arendellian chocolate… that they didn't give to the tourists. He walked to a cart and smiled. "Those jelly rolls," he said, "I can't fight it… I need one!"

Wolfgang had paid for his roll and was giving it a new home in his digestive system when he heard a cry of, "Let go of me, you jerk!"

Wolfgang ran over to the scene, a back alley, and noticed a dead soldier next to a thin, cloaked man with a pistol held to the head of a rather attractive looking woman about Wolfgang's age.

"Don't try anything," the man warned, "or I'll blow Princess Anna's brains out!"

Wolfgang laughed as he flicked his wrist. The man jumped back, dropped his gun and yelped. His cloak was on fire!

"Buddy," said Wolfgang in his baritone voice, "I don't need to try. Now get out of here before I burn the rest of your sorry ass."

The man ran off screaming, and Anna sighed with relief.

"Thanks," she said. "My sister's gonna love you! Hey… I know you! You're Prince Wolfgang of Vendenrein!"

"I… uh… yeah, that's me." He cleared his throat, his cheeks burning… and not from his fire magic.

"I can't possibly be the only princess you've met," she said, giggling.

"I'm… well… in a formal setting, that's fine, but out here… out here I'm… ummm…"

"Awww, are you shy?"

Wolfgang just nodded.

Anna gasped. "Karl?!"

"He's dead," said Wolfgang simply.

Anna shook her head as tears came to her eyes. She'd never seen a dead body! And this was her personal guard… her friend since childhood!

Wolfgang took off his coat and wrapped it around a now visibly shaking Anna, holding her tightly.

Anna buried her head in Wolfgang's chest and sobbed. "But he can't be! He… he won't get to find someone special or… or have a family! His… his parents are gonna be so heartbroken!"

Wolfgang stroked Anna's soft hair comfortingly as she cried. "I'm sorry," she sobbed. "I'm so sorry!"

"Shhhh… Princess…" Wolfgang whispered. "Shhh…". He looked into her eyes, wiping away her tears gently. "It's alright. Want something to drink?"

Anna nodded.

They headed to the local bar, and Wolfgang ordered a mug of dark beer. Anna ordered some wine, and they headed to the bar's patio.

"So… I hear you have powers?"

"I'm what you call a 'fire-man,'" said Wolfgang. "As a pyromancer, I am utterly fireproof from my head to my toe."

"Could you… Could you…". She moved her chair next to him. "Could you hold me again? It… makes me feel safer."

Wolfgang held her close and smiled gently.

"Tell me about Vendenrein," she said softly, closing her eyes. "I just… I just wanna hear your voice, okay?"
