A/N This is my first crossover fic. I read Here Comes Tootle as a young child and found the original story about him due to a comment on a blog post focused on TTTE. Somebody said they remembered a train story in which a character left the track to play or smell flowers, something like that. Someone said in reply "You're thinking of Tootle." I found out Tootle's original book's the same age as The Railway Series, so it's safe to say he's a steamer, but his whistle and boiler further seal the deal. I read a fic in which Thomas found out about his siblings right when I was starting this, which affected my plans for this story. No flames, respect my inspiration.

An engine called Tootle was told steam was ending on his railroad. I'm running away, he thought. He needed to find a place to run to. One day, someone told him about a magical island called Sodor, a haven for steam engines where they never get scrapped, unless not useful.

"How can I get to Sodor?", Tootle asked somebody. He was told it was across the Atlantic Ocean and he needed to find a ship. So off Tootle puffed to the Atlantic Coast and asked if he could board a ship going across the Atlantic, explaining he needed to get to Sodor. No one questioned him, so he was put on the next ship bound for the British Isles.

Tootle's ship floated over the ocean until docking at Sodor. The first sights for him were a number of engines, all alive like him. He heard a sad whistle and wondered who was unhappy and why. He decided to follow the sound.

Tootle asked the sad little blue engine "Why are you so sad and what's your name? I'm Tootle and I'm new here.".

"I'm Thomas and I'm crying because all my siblings were scrapped", the tank engine said tearfully. "I'm the only one left. I was so happy earlier, before the bad news." He then said, "Driver, can you dry my tears?" Thomas' driver climbed onto his running board with a cloth to do that.

Tootle said, "Thomas, I came here to escape being scrapped myself. Based on what you told me about earlier, I guess you're usually more cheerful than this."

Thomas gave the engine form of a sniff and stopped crying. "I'm a happier engine than that most of the time. I shall now go introduce you to my friends. I noticed this before, just didn't have the chance to say, but you've got an accent, Tootle "

Tootle said, "Thomas, I come from across the ocean. You're the one with the accent."

"I'm from Brighton, if you go by the place I was built. From there, I was sent to Sodor. We'll have to teach you our words, since you can't speak English right. You've got to learn our railway terms, but first you shall get to know all of us. I got my branch line after I rescued James when he had an accident with some trucks."

"Trucks?", said Tootle, as they steamed off to meet the others.

Thomas said, "They make up goods trains."

"Goods trains? You mean freight trains? So you call freight cars trucks here? A railway's a railroad, I guess."

Thomas smiled now, his black eyes lighting up. "You're learning already, Tootle!", he said happily. "You'll catch on and be a really useful engine yet. I can be cheeky, I admit."

"What's cheeky?,"

"It's what I was being when I talked about your accent and your English. Mischievous, impudent, sassy, words like that."

Now, they came to where the other engines were and Tootle would learn all about them. He thought Thomas seemed a bit guarded, even though he was kind and helpful. His smile had given Tootle an idea of how this engine was.

A/N I was listening to Railway Series read aloud videos while working on this. If Duke's eyes twinkled in that story, eye expressiveness is canon. Thomas is kind of the leader among engines, so I made him the one to introduce Tootle to the others, which happens next. Tootle's not British, so he needs to learn British words from Thomas and his friends. This time, I included stuff I've seen in other fics, but never felt like doing myself. Things like someone drying a character's tears or talking about accents. I'm from Tootle's country, btw, but want to honor Thomas and gang being British, so when a Sudrian speaks they use British English. With Tootle being foreign to the Sudrians, I brought the accent thing out. The Sudrians speak with the accent of wherever they're built, so Thomas has a Brighton accent here. His comments about how Tootle talks are inspired by his being cheeky and British.
