It took a small mission, but I eventually fetched my phone from my gym bag, and sent a quick message over too Amanda. I would have loved to meet her right now, but I didn't want to greet her…and just turn around right after.
I wanted to walk right outta this school, bag in hand, and never come back…I had enough.
I was sitting in class, not even remotely paying attention as the time ticked by. I was called on once or twice, but I just instantly responded with "Dunno, sorry."
It had the teacher confused and moderately angered, but I just shrugged them off. They wouldn't get it…nobody here would.
As soon as the bell rang, I was up and moving.
"Mr. Senshi-"
"Got somewhere to be, last you'll see me anyway. Best of luck with the remaining year." I said bluntly, running over his words with a clear force on my words. I let the door click behind me as I walked out calmly as ever. It was interesting, this kind of determination is rather strange. I am ready to throw this entire school away on the chance that I get accepted into…Shiketsu was it?
I just knew that even if I missed a year and got held back, anything would be better than staying here. I'm sure Todoroki can take the reigns as the strongest…I bet once he's free to use his flame, he'll be stronger than everyone else in his class by a mile.
Would be a fun spar, shame it won't happen.
"Ikari-kun!" I heard a familiar voice call out for me, and I sighed, not stopping my walked towards the principal's office.
"Toru, I've got somewhere to be, make it snappy."
"What do you mean "Last you'll see me"?!" she asked in a near shout, running after me.
I felt my breath hitch…this was a chance. I could break our friendship right here…but did I want too?
…no. I didn't.
"I'm dropping out." I said simply, "It's been fun Toru, maybe I'll see you again if Shiketsu accepts me."
"Shiketsu?! UA's rival school? Why?!" She finally caught me, racing in front of me to try and stop me. I was a lot bigger than her, so keeping my stride was clue enough for her to either get bodied or fall into step with me.
"I don't like it here." I said simply, "I thought I could make it work, but I don't want to achieve my goals through this school…even if you're here."
I grabbed her and hugged her into my side, cutting off a protest with a friendly squeeze, "Thanks Toru! You made my stay here not entirely bad. Extend my well-wishing's' to Midoriya and Momo will you? I'll miss you guys."
I released her, and continued on my way.
Toru grabbed my sleeve, and dug in her heels. I was moderately amused by this feeble attempt, but it grew less and less enjoyable as she wordlessly tried to slow me down.
"Toru."
"I don't want you to go."
"It's what's best for me."
"We're all trying to be heroes."
"And yet I'm always made out to be the villain." I said simply, "Nothing against you Toru, just the people who run this system. I am not being trained, I'm being used as a yardstick for the other hopefuls, a punching bag just because I can take it." I said bitterly, before I sighed, breathing out the fire boiling in my belly.
"You really plan on dropping out?"
"Yes, I plan on visiting Nezu to discuss what that entails."
"…I don't think I can pass Shiketsu's entry exam."
"Then don't, stay here. I'm sure you'll get the help you need. I just wasn't seen as someone who needed it."
She stopped digging in her heels, and I felt the grip on my sleeve relax, and she let me go. She slowed, and I started to gain distance.
I felt my gut start to bitter as I heard a faint sniffle behind me, and I recognized two growing wet spots on her jacket.
"Toru…don't do that."
"…it's not fair."
I stared at her, before I felt a bubble.
A burst of laughter came out. It was quick, loud, and rather energetic as it made her jump slightly.
"Toru!" I said almost cheerfully, "Life isn't fair! Why do you think you're becoming a hero?!"
I walked back towards her, and I gave her a real big hug, "You're becoming a Hero so you can change it, so you can get whatever it is you're missing. I am too! If it burns you that much…then work that much harder. I have no doubts."
She didn't say anything, even as I felt her tears soak my shirt.
"Oh c'mon, we're still friends! I know you hiked my phone number when I left it on my desk, don't be afraid to chat with me from time to time."
"…you always see me."
"Well, no, I don't." I said flatly with a smile, "Don't give me too much credit."
"…can I text you all the time?"
"As long as you don't wake me up in the middle of the night more than a few times a week." I said, still smiling.
She nodded into my torso, and I gave a chuckle, before I peeled away and set her straight, smoothing out her shoulders as she breathed.
"Goodie, all better?"
"No."
"Well, I never was a miracle worker."
"You're leaving?" I heard another voice say quietly, and I looked up.
It appears we had an audience, the entire class of 1-A was there, staring at the scene before them in a mixture of sadness, impassive nonchalance and miffed annoyance.
"Yep." I said simply, "No tears please, my shirt is plenty wet as is."
"As if I would cry over your ass Fucker!" I heard Bakugo snarl, and I just rolled my eyes, "love you too Poprock."
"Why?" Midoriya asked, clearly confused, "I-I thought this was where you had-d to be?"
"Erm, it was, but I reckon I can get what I need from them after I graduate. If anything they'll have even greater motivation to help me as I'll be a licensed ally."
"Who?"
"I'll keep that to myself, try and figure it out before you graduate Midoriya, that'll be a fun challenge for you. And if Aizawa gives you any shit, just come over to Shiketsu with me, I'll help you best I can. If that place doesn't work I'll just turn vigilante and make it work outside the law instead of inside."
"Was it Aizawa-sensei?" Todoroki asked calmly, and I gave him a small look of approval, "maybe, you could say he placed the last straw that broke the camel's back."
An awkward silence seemed to fill the space as my words sank in, and I just shrugged, "Oh yeah, Toru, give Midoriya and Momo my number yeah? Just in case something happens."
She nodded numbly, I could tell from how her collar bobbed.
"Well, I'm off, best of luck with the rest of your semester." I said with a wave, and I turned on my heel and walked away, closing my eyes as I mentally solidified that goodbye. No, it wasn't final, I am sure I'll see them again, hopefully not too soon.
But it was for me too.
I am saying goodbye.
To the people here, the system here, the school here.
I let the sounds of my steps remain, each dull thump letting me know that I was moving forward, this was necessary. I strolled through the campus, the student's dull roar slowly disappearing to where they needed to be, be it extra-curricular activities or piling out the front gate on their ways home. I stopped a ways away from a window, watching the school filter out like an ant colony as its workers and attenders dispersed into the open world outside.
I resumed my pace, focus.
I walked towards the elevator, thinking to myself suddenly, before smiling and pressing down instead of up.
I shouldn't be trying to find Nezu where he should be…that little rat will come find me in order to stop me.
I hummed to myself in amusement at the idea; it's a bit late for that now isn't it? he knew this was coming the moment Aizawa prevented me from leaving. This was the only outcome that could possibly follow this.
The elevator dinged, and I stepped out, my small smile stretching even wider as I prided myself on predicting the future quite accurately.
Nezu was standing right there, hands folded behind his back in his little suit, vest and tie, with Aizawa and Midnight by his side, Kate right behind him.
"Afraid for your life Nezu?" I asked with a rather menacing grin, and I could see Aizawa's frown deepen as Midnight's feet shifted. Kate looked shocked my expression, but Nezu…he looked positively happy expression.
"Your jokes are poorly timed as usual!"
"Well, let's cut to the chase then." I said, my grin never leaving my face as I walked forward, my righteous anger surfacing as heat poured off my skin like vaporous flame, "I'm here to get my stuff. Plan on stopping me?"
"You're dropping out?"
"Don't sound surprised, you probably predicted it would end like this the moment you tried to tie me down to Kate there…shame really, she was actually getting the hang of things. I'm sure she can figure the rest out on her own."
"Hmm." He said, his eyes gleaming, "Well, while partially right, you're missing a few things."
"As if I care. I'm dropping out; consider this my resignation from this institution."
"We need your guardian's approval for that."
I just smirked, a bitter smile pulling at the edge of my lips, "Check my hero outfit suitcase."
I had a sneaking suspicion…it was probably written in there just for me. My father never did let anything…and I do mean anything go.
He never believed I could be a hero, flat out denied the possibility at every turn. I couldn't do it, it wouldn't work, I was too violent, to volatile, a poor example.
A terrible leader.
I'm sure he slipped it in there out of spite just for something like this, maybe hoping I would realize it myself when I came to don the costume.
"I was told you haven't even opened that case." Nezu said, glancing at Aizawa, who nodded.
"I don't need to look to know what my father put in there."
"Daddy issues?"
"Don't we all Runt?" I said, before I sighed, and my malicious grin died, replacing it was a frown, a dangerous frown.
"You can't stop me from leaving, by obligation or legality. I'm sure it'll sting your ego down the road, but I get the feeling you'll twist it into something justifiably "within your plans". Poor loser if you ask me."
Nezu's black eyes shimmered, "We'll your right, I cant hold you here…rather, it was never my intention to hold you here myself."
I frowned, before realization dawned on me as Kate suddenly leapt over Nezu, and Midnight tugged at the edge of her hero suit, releasing her gas into the space.
"Rather, you've been training the one person who can hold you down, although you haven't finished yet."
I dropped my bag as I squared off, before I felt my anger suddenly weaken, and I saw Aizawa's glowing eyes fixed on me, a mask pulled up over his face under his goggles.
I felt my head sink lower as I stared at the ground, not a smart decision considering I had a quirk user running at me.
But I couldn't help it.
How else could I hide this urge to laugh?
I trembled, before I stifled a laugh. Kate's rush slowed as she suddenly became very wary, she knew that my laughter did little to clue her into my emotional state, and even without my rage, I was dangerous.
"It's quite funny really", I began as I looked up with well-crafted smile, "This is the first time you've really tested me…and you'll be punished for underestimating me."
Nezu's eyes widened in fascination, and Kate jumped for me.
I helped Kate learn how to handle large impacts, fast ones too.
But I haven't taught her a thing. She came at me with hands wide, looking to grab me to use her quirk, but it wasn't going to happen.
I lunged into her far lower than she anticipated, faster as well. I sent a powerful jab right to her chin from down below, and her habit appeared.
She stiffened, ready to absorb.
But there was nothing there.
I simply vanished from before her eyes, my retreating hand showing only my absence as I charged right under her outstretched arm, hauling for Midnight. I knew Kate couldn't catch me, so I let out a howl.
"YOUR GAS WONT WORK ON ME THEY WAY YOU THINK IT WILL MIDNIGHT!" I roared, plowed right through it, her eyes widening in shock as I was completely unaffected. The mist billowed around me, and soon Aizawa was finding a problem.
Clear sight on me was becoming less and less possible.
"Midnight, ease up." he said through his mask, but I just grinned.
"Too late!"
I suddenly swapped targets, launching off my left leg and lunging right at Aizawa. His eyes furrowed in focus, and his training showed. He immediately stepped forward, bracing and countering my outstretched my arm and stepping in for a take down.
However, his mistake was only evident. I was more than prepared for that…I was trained too. I twisted, suddenly turning his sweeping throw against him as I squatted low, sweeping my leg around and throwing him over my shoulder onto the ground. He let go, breaking his fall like a seasoned pro, but that was all I needed.
I ripped his mask off, he tried to hold his breath, but I was faster. I socked him straight in the gut, hearing him sputter, before I wrenched his hands away, and inhaled deeply…
Before blowing the collected gas in my lungs straight into his face. He struggled briefly, before he slackened, and slipped into unconsciousness.
Kate came soaring in to intercept, but it was too late.
Anger hit my bloodstream like a roaring wave, and I leapt straight up into the air, soaring high above her flying tackle, and coming down with a anger bellow.
"RHAA!"
I double fist slammed into the ground, and the floor exploded. A wall of wind whipped out, blowing away Midnights accumulated mist and throwing Kate even farther away down the hall as she slid. Midnight had grabbed Nezu and shielded him, but because of that, she wasn't fast enough to shield Aizawa. His body took off, flailing as his consciousness groggily returned from the impact.
Just in time to greet a wall moving at high speeds. He slammed into it with a hastily prepared defence, and it rocked him. He slammed hard, falling even harder to the floor amongst the scattered rubble.
"Sorry teach, I know your injured, but you picked the wrong side today." I said behind me, and he didn't get up.
I stood up, rolling my shoulders as I bore the usual weight, and smiled dangerously at Nezu, who looked…less than his normal self.
Unhappy would be a good assessment.
"You're immune to poisons?" he asked curiously.
"No dummy." I said tauntingly, a small curl of Midnight's gas rising from the corner of my appearing sneer, "I'm resistant. Did you think my body wasn't aware of the dangers of in taking a huge amount of oxygen to support my quirk? I obviously wouldn't have survived breathing in all the toxic garbage in the air and absorbing it into my bloodstream. A single cloud of smoke or any gas could have immobilized me at that point."
"Anesthetic isn't something you can build a resistance too."
"Oh definitely not, not without a lot of experience with it…which I do have. I grew up in a strait jacket, and I gave you're a syringe to knock me out. I know you're not stupid enough to pull something like this without it on hand, and I see All Might nowhere nearby. Careful with that thing, if you shoot anyone else with it they will die."
"We used it on the Nomu." I heard a rasp from behind me, "We knew it had to be powerful, and detaining that Anti-All Might was our top priority."
"A clever use."
I felt my quirk fade out, and I fell back, dodging a surprise lunge from Kate, a shiny needle in hand. I flipped over off my hands, carefully dodging her strikes.
"But I happen to know that isn't the case, Recovery Girl is quite up to date."
Aizawa coughed out bloodily, his injuries showing as I felt my quirk flicker, and I used that moment to my advantage. I blew past Kate again, knowing I couldn't really do anything about her or that syringe in her hand due to the training that I put her through, and ran.
Straight towards the elevator.
I crashed through the maintenance door around the corner, before suddenly; the lights flickered, off with a large crash as I sank my fist into the electrical system. I grinned, before slowly walking out, hand steaming as I felt my quirk vanish again as Aizawa's foggy vision landed on me once more. Kate slowed, her footing become unsure as the dying lights killed her vision, and Nezu and Midnight stared at me in eerie silence, shock on their faces as I stood before their downed forms with a smile.
A very…very sadistic smile.
"I'll be taking my things and leaving, however I will tell you a little something before I go."
Kate was trying to make ground, but the ground was flickering too much to really make haste.
"I have been think a lot about hero names, vigilante names…hell, I even considered villain names after all the shit you guys put me through." I said with sickening sweetness, my canines looking nearly vampiric, my stare like a wild hungry wolf.
"I dunno about a hero name..." I said, and I could feel Aizawa's eyes fade off of me as despair settled into him. My quirk returned, and I felt my intensity kick up a notch.
"But for a vigilante, I have the perfect one!"
Kate made a dive for me, finally decided that her approach was too slow, a desperate attempt. "Wait!"
I disappeared in the flickering lights, appearing before Nezu with a wall of air knocking Midnight's glasses off.
I flicked the little Rat in the forehead for his full attention, and I leered at him, merely inches from his tiny form.
"Call me Wrath! The Rampaging Hero!"
