Writer: Ark Angel HFB

A/N: I actually wrote this chapter first... then wrote 5 chapters to go before it... before I consolidated those 5 chapters into the recap in chapter 1. I hope you guys enjoy this chapter as much as I did writing and rewriting it.

CHAPTER 2: Father?

Kagome reached up, her hand gripping the vines that grew in the well. She struggled, and with effort she pulled herself out of the portal between her time and the Feudal Era. Rolling over the lip of the well, she tumbled to the ground and stretched as her heavy yellow backpack lay under her. groaning in frustration as she noticed her arrows had spilled out of their quiver. "Why haven't we put a ladder in the well yet." She sat up, her eyes gazed looking for Inuyasha who was almost always waiting for her. "Where is that baka? I said I'd be here by mid day. He is normally here stalking me already. It's not like I'm late all the time... ok maybe I am."

As she stood and turned around to face the well her eyes met with a piercing sky blue gaze that burned through her. She screamed as she lunged backwards, losing her footing on loose arrows and tripping over her backpack as she tumbled to the ground. She looked at the full youkai who seemed to simply be watching her, a slight grin on his face.

"Kagome..." The demon spoke her name. He was clad in armor, his hair was jet black and almost seemed to glisten in the sunlight. His eyes were sky blue, and he had one stripe on each cheek of a similar blue. He was wearing a very fine kimono of a darker blue. He stood taller than Sesshomaru. His blue eyes looked Kagome over, a grin still on his face.

"Ho... how do you know my name?" Kagome blinked and in a moment the youkai had moved to stand over her his hand held out as if to offer her help.

"If anyone should know your name pup, it is I." The youkai's voice was steady, calming, commanding, and scary, all at the same time.

"I've seen you before. I know you. How? Who are y..." Kagome's mouth hung open for a moment as she stared, her mind already spinning off a thousand questions at once. She didn't even notice herself reaching up accepting the outstretched hand. her mind caught up as she was effortlessly lifted to her feet. "Tha... Thank you." The only thing she could think to do was lean forward in a small respectful bow. "What am I doing... Why do I think I know him? He's probably going to eat me... or worse!"

The youkai smiled, his eyes seeming to shine.

Kagome flinched as she felt the youkai's claws barely touching her neck as his hand cupped under her chin lifting her face up out of the bow. "Oh God, what is he going to do? What do I do! What if he hates humans." Kagome froze, barely breathing as the youkai used his hand to tightly hold her jaw.

"Which one was it again..." Leaning in close, the blue clad youkai used his grip on the young girl's face to force Kagome's head to twist left then right and then up and down. "Do you trust me, young one?" His voice came out steady, calming, and cool like a winter breeze.

"Ah... who... are..." Kagome swallowed her question as she saw the youkai lift his free hand. "I'm dead... I'm so dead.'' Shewatched the claws, that looked sharper than Inuyasha's ever had, rise up slowly to stop a hair's breadth in front of her eyes. "I'm going to die..."

"Do not move." The youkai spoke, his voice a cold command. "This will hurt."

"Inuyasha where are you when I need YOU!" Kagome was ridged, too scared to even think as she watched two claws come to point and then touch her left eye.

There was a blinding flash of light as sparks shot around her and she couldn't help but to scream. The youkai kept her head still, holding her firmly and keeping his hand steady as a small dark blue pearl began to slowly emerge from the darkness of Kagome's pupil. A moment later he pulled his hand away as the sparks continued to wildly arc around the area. The blue pearl drifted from her eye and rested in the palm of his hand.

Kagome was breathing heavily, her heart racing fast, as she covered her eye with her hand and blinked over and over until her sight returned. See watched through her fingers as the youkai rolled the pearl between his as if he was carefully cleaning and examining the gem.

The gem shined brightly as the youkai placed it in her hand, guiding her to hold it between her fingers as he had. "You must be the one to do this, pup."

"Do what?" Kagome muttered, barely registering the words, as her focus stayed on the tiny gem between her thumb and fingers. The pearl felt so cold it was hot, as if she was holding raw condensed power. The pearl so transfixed her that she didn't even feel the tingle in her nose as it built. She sneezed, her hand clenching uncontrollably and the pearl shattered in a puff of dust in her grasp.

Kagome felt her whole body pulse and the world seemed to suddenly be far too bright to keep her eyes open. Images began racing through Kagome's mind, things that seemed so familiar and so real, things that could not be true, that were only odd old dreams she had had years before.

"It hurts!" Kagome cried, shaking as she grabbed her head and leaned forward. Again the lightning flew, and frost blossomed on the ground around her. She didn't care that she was leaning forward and her head was now resting on the stomach of the youkai, or that tears were running down her cheeks and soaking into the youkai's fine kimono. Instead, she only cared that the youkai had put his hand on her back and was making a low rumbling growl and that for some reason, it eased the pain and made her feel safe. "It... hurts... so.. much!" Kagome sobbed, her voice catching in her throat between every word.

"Memories can be painful little one." His voice was steady.

Kagome felt like she was spinning, everything seemed to be shifting around her and she felt sick. She only managed to look up and utter one word before darkness fell around her. "Dad?"
