HANYOU KAGOME!

CHAPTER 8: So Why a Headbutt?
Kagome stepped away from Inuyasha as she watched her father walking away. "Hey... I said to not insult him!"
Sora turned walking backwards as he spoke. "Then let him teach you how to be a real hanyou and I'll see if he has any merits." Sora paused, looking his daughter up and down. "And have the fool find you something to wear that a whore wouldn't blush to wear. Your Mother must have lost her mind in my absence to allow you to run around like that." With that Sora turned from them resuming his slow pace. "She married the brother of the youkai that destroyed my life... Father said daughters were troublesome... The old dog was a prophet."
"I'm not dressed like a whore!" Kagome shouted as her father disappeared behind a tree. She turned to face Inuyasha who averted his gaze. Kagome narrowed her eyes at him. "Great... that's what they agree on." With a huff, Kagome turned on her heels grabbing her bag and stalking away towards the direction she thought the village was in.

Inuyasha had followed silently behind her for half a mile before correcting her that she was going in the wrong direction. As the two emerged from the forest, the sun was already hanging low in the sky casting long streaking rays through the clouds.
Kagome broke the silence as she stopped covering her eyes from the new assault of light. "Do... Do you think Sesshomaru really did that? Really killed my brothers." Kagome asked as she kept her gaze low to the ground, biting her lip and winching as her fang drew a small prick of blood.
"I..." Inuyasha crossed his arms, purposely letting his shoulder rub against her as they walked. "If this crap isn't some insane trick, probably... Sesshomaru is a bastard." He scoffed.
"Even... even if he did, he has changed a lot since we first met him." Kagome said, setting her jaw. "Even if he did attack them... he has changed a lot right." Kagome repeated under her breath almost more to herself than to Inuyasha. "Like how he looks after Rin and cares for her... and helped us finally finish Naraku."
"Feh... I guess. He doesn't even frown anymore when you call him brother... You need to stop that by the way, you make me sick every time you do." Inuyasha cut his eyes at his mate.
Kagome sighed, but couldn't keep down the subtle bitter smile that fought its way onto her lips. "I had older brothers... I... I can't remember their names... but I can see their faces..." Kagome's breath hung in her throat for a moment before another sigh cleared her mind and she looped her arm under Inuyasha's and leaned on him for strength.

The morning came faster than she thought it would. Kaede had taken to the idea of Kagome being a hanyou fairly well. Kagome had drunk two herbal teas the old miko had made and Shippo had literally not stopped crawling over Kagome and sniffing her for almost five minutes.
The kitsune had touched Kagome's ears and tail over and over and found his new favorite spot atop her head. Before too long though, Inuyasha had insisted she needed to rest and had forced her to leave with him to the small hut he had constructed months prior.
Tucked away under trees on a small hill near a little branch of the river that ran near the village, Inuyasha didn't really care for the glorified shack, but Kagome had seemed happy to have it and that was enough for him. Inuyasha had smirked to himself at how much Shippo had whimpered about Inuyasha telling him to stay in the village, but a candy bar from Kagome had bought his willing compliance.

"Kagome, get up."
"I don't want to..."
"You can't lay there forever, baka."
"Yes I can... baka. Stop being so noisy." Kagome mumbled as she rolled over before yelping as she was dragged from the covers and into strong arms. "Hey stop."
"You sleep too damn much for a hanyou..." Inuyasha smirked as he picked her up, carrying his mate outside in his arms.
"I'm letting that one slide because you smell so good..." Kagome muttered, her eyes half closed as she nuzzled her head into Inuyasha's arm.
Inuyasha blinked at the comment before a smirk broke over his face. "I could get used to her saying that."
Kagome uttered something about birds being too loud. Her breathing slowed, becoming steady, and her tail wrapped around Inuyasha as she drifted back to sleep.

"OW! WHAT GIVES!?" Kagome yelped as she was unceremoniously dropped onto the ground and woken from a sound sleep. She glared up at golden eyes and a smirking face. "Why'd you drop me you jerk?"
"Had to wake you up somehow... How are we going to see what you can do with you just nipping and licking my robe in your damn sleep." Inuyasha rubbed a wet spot on the sleeve of robe. "I'm not your damn chew toy."
Kagome's face burned red with embarrassment. "Oh great! I thought he acted like a dog when he was trying to track something."
"Ok... how to show her how to be a hanyou..." Inuyasha crossed his arm, too lost in thought to pay attention to the mortified female hanyou who continued to mutter to herself. his mind drifting to his early years, Inuyasha scoffed at the bitter faded memories.

A child inu hanyou sprinted after the leather ball, pouncing on it just before it reached the edge of the river. He turned around holding the ball, a smile beaming across his face. The joy of saving his favorite toy lasted only a moment before a rock took him full in the face. The small hanyou recoiled as he tried to blink away the pain.
Standing just downstream was a group of humans, fishing pools in hand as they glared. "Get out of here monster!" The group shifted the baskets holding their morning catch behind them, as another of them hurled another stone.
The stone sailed harmlessly past Inuyasha but before he could relish any happiness about not being hit by it, three of the humans began to advance on him. Eyes as wide as the moon, Inuyasha's eyes kept darting between the small knives the men wielded and the hate on their faces. As the men closed on him he did the only thing such a young hanyou could do, flee for his life with slurs and blades nipping at his heels.

Inuyasha scoffed. "No one was there to teach me shit." Inuyasha refocused on Kagome tilting his head to the side as he tried to think. "What do I teach her... Kagome can already handle herself ok, I guess. Worst case she can always put up a spiritual barrier to keep herself safe." He froze. "Does she even still have her miko powers?" Inuyasha looked at the female hanyou who was sprawled on the ground rubbing sleep from her eyelids.
"Why couldn't you just let me sleep another hour. I still feel exhausted from yesterday." Kagome complained.
Inuyasha ignored her. "Enemies always underestimated her and just focused on me because she was just a human girl. Now they'll take her as a threat from the start, nobody ignores hanyous. If she can't put up a barrier then she can't keep'em at distance in fights, she could get in real trouble fast."
Kagome watched Inuyasha start to nod to himself. "I don't trust that look Inuyasha, what are you planning?"
"Oi, Put up a barrier. Like a strong one." Inuyasha said flatly.
"Wha..." Kagome blinked for a moment before looking at her hands, her subtle new claws seeming extremely conspicuous. "Oh..." Kagome swallowed before taking a deep breath and shifting into a kneeling position on the ground. Focusing within herself as if sinking down into an enormous calm lake without creating a ripple in the water, Kagome extending her hands out.
Inuyasha watched, as a nearly fully transparent sphere swirled into existence around his mate. "Whew... good... at least she can still keep herself safe." He watched for a moment before reaching out poking the barrier. As if a lone soap bubble in freezing winter air, a fractal ice pattern crystallized across the surface of the barrier.
The barrier shattered with a flash of light and a deafeningly sharp sound like that of breaking glass.
Inuyasha shielded his face with the sleeve of his robe. "FUCK!" He shouted in a panic as he lowered arm to see if his mate was alright. "Kagome!?"
Kagome could only hear a loud ringing that felt as if it echoed through her whole body. She was trembling, her small triangular dog ear pressed flat to her head and her hands covering them. After a moment the ringing began to fade, being replaced by the sound of the frantic male hanyou in front of her demanding to know if she was alright.
"Oi answer me! Kagome are you ok!?" Inuyasha repeated kneeling in front of her just inches from her face. He could see small fresh scapes all over her hands and arms but they didn't seem to be anything major.
"I'm fine." Kagome said, completely unsure if it was the truth but needing the shouting to stop. Kagome's hands felt chilly as she noticed small wisp of icy air drift from every nick and cut. "I..."
Inuyasha drew breath trying to calm down as he plopped back into a crossed legged sitting position. He said nothing as his mind raced. "If she can't keep a barrier up right now... She has to have a way to keep enemies away."
Kagome was breathless as she tried to calm down. "What was that? What did I just see?"
"She doesn't need spiritual powers to run… She has gotta learn to run then. Worst case she can at least get away. Yeah she should be able to do that. How should I get her to do it though..." Inuyasha laughed as he shoot up before leaping away in a blur.
Kagome couldn't help but flinch away from the sudden movement. Blinking as she stared at her now distant mate. "What the heck Inuyasha! Don't scare me like that right now."
"Feh... Forget the barrier." Inuyasha said as he landed far away from her. "See if you can hit me."
"What?" Kagome said looking over at the red clad hanyou.
"I want to see how fast you are... just try to hit me. If you can get one good shot in you'll be doing better than Shippo." Inuyasha said with his hands on his hips. "Maybe I can make her angry enough to just use instincts... Once she gets a feel for it, it'll be easy."
"Fiiiine." Kagome sighed as she brushed off the long jeans she wore. Her first attempt was more than pathetic as she ran at Inuyasha only for him to side step her and jump away behind her. "Oh come on! You're too fast! This is hopeless!" Kagome yelled, and groaned in misery. "This is pointless... I feel lighter but just thinking about moving that fast is silly. I can't do what Inuyasha does."
"Then why don't you try coming at me like you mean it. Running at me like a human is just stupid when you are a hanyou baka!" Inuyasha said with a jeer. "Just get her angry... Her old man is still alive so it isn't like her youkai blood will lose it."
"Like a human?" Kagome asked, blinking at him.
"Yeah Dummy... You have to be faster now so don't take such short stumpy steps. Clear some damn distance when you move. Your damn old man was a freaking blur when the jackass hit me. You have to have some of that speed." Inuyasha said as he rolled his shoulders and began slowly circling Kagome as if he was stalking her. "Get her mad... it will either work... or the bitch will sit me for it."
"Inuyasha I can't do anything like that." Kagome said, shaking her head before pausing. "Maybe I can..." She knelt like she was in the starting blocks of a school track and field race. "I am stronger now... if I just jump really hard maybe I can get close enough to punch him. Oh man, how do you throw a real punch again? Sango told me a few times..." Kagome's breathing steadied.
"Just try not to be so damn weak!" Inuyasha taunted from where he stood a good twenty yards away. "Well!?"
"One sec." Kagome said in an annoyed voice. "I'm supposed to make sure my arm is lined up with my shoulder and hit through the target... and turn my body into it at the same time."
"Some time this era KAGOME!" Inuyasha chided, his hands placed on his hips.
"I said one SECOND!" Kagome growled back looking at the ground she knelt over. She slowly looked up, glaring at Inuyasha and trying to look threatening, her tail and ears lowering. "If I just jump really hard I'll get close to him... I just know I can cover some of the ground."
"WOULD. YOU. HURRY. IT. UP!"
"Would you just SHUT UP!" Kagome shrieked as her legs pushed hard off the ground. In a breath she was airborne for half the distance before her feet touched ground again. "One more jump, HARDER." She brought her arm back and her fist closed, then pushed her feet into the ground with everything she had. The next thing Kagome knew she was laying on her back, her head throbbing. "What happened?" She sat up, her hand coming up to rub her head.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!" Inuyasha screamed from a sitting position.
"Hun?" The way Kagome was sitting she had to turn around to look at Inuyasha who was behind her. "What happened?" Kagome asked, rubbing her head as her tail curled around into her lap.
"You fucking headbutted me!" Inuyasha said as he got to his feet. "I blinked and she was too close to dodge. Why the hell did she have her arm back though... bitch didn't plan that headbutt."
"I did!" Kagome scrambled to her feet, a smile spreading over her face. "HA! Weak little me got a hit on you!" Kagome's hands were on her hips as she walked towards Inuyasha.
"So why a headbutt?" Inuyasha asked, glaring.
"I... I just jumped at you and..." Kagome began to divert her gaze from Inuyasha.
"You blinked." Inuyasha said as he finished her sentence. "When you move that fast you can't blink just whenever you want.
"Well sorry! I still hit you, didn't I?" Kagome growled.
"Feh, you got lucky." Inuyasha said with a smirk. "Not like you could do it again."
With a growl Kagome lunged at him in frustration, her mind feeling foggy, but the desire beat the other hanyou blazed in her heart. "JERK!"
Inuyasha ducked under Kagome's widely swung punch with a smile on his face. "Just charging like an animal won't get you another hit baka!" Inuyasha chided her before he jumped back landing in a tree as Kagome crashed into the ground where he had been, her failed tackle sending up a cloud of dust. "She is really getting mad... Just a little more and she be using nothing but instinct and I'll see what she's got."
"Well how about you teach me instead of just insulting me you jerk!" Kagome half screamed and half roared at the hanyou in the tree. "I'LL FREAKING KILL HIM!"
Inuyasha waited till Kagome was in the air to leap from his perch. "Too slow bitch!"
Kagome only needed one foot on the tree trunk to leap after him, a growl in her throat, as she brought her claws forwards towards Inuyasha.
They were at tree top height when Kagome reached Inuyasha, who had turned to watch her coming towards him. He grinned as he grabbed Kagome's wrist and then her other wrist as she swung at him in the air. As they glided towards the ground, he made sure his feet were the first to touch the ground. With a smile at his mate, he let the momentum roll him backwards. As his back touched the ground he planted his foot in Kagome's stomach, vaulting her over him.
Kagome screeched as she flew through the air, doing a full front flip before landing and sliding to a stop in a crouching stance, her shoulder just barely resting on a tree trunk.
"Wow... Kagome you got some real air there. You ok!" Inuyasha chided again, smirking as he looked at Kagome from his back. "Damn this is fun... she isn't as fast as me... but she sure is close." Inuyasha sprang to his feet as he looked at his mate who was just crouching by the tree. "Kagome really, you ok?" He asked as he started to walk towards her.
The snarl that met him was jarring. "Too rough?" Inuyasha asked as he stared. A moment later He watched in horror as Kagome's face raised to reveal eyes swirling with blue and red glaring at him. "Oh shit..." Inuyasha didn't blink, he just didn't have time to fully dodge the claws as the once miko streaked past him, her claws shredding a gash through his fire rat robe as she passed.
Inuyasha crouched from his last second side step as he watched Kagome slide into her own crouching stance. "Oi Kagome! Snap Out Of IT!" His voice fell on deaf twitching dog ears as his mate wheeled around before bolting at him again.
A growl still deep in her throat, Kagome waited for the male hanyou to dodge her before swiping her claws in his direction. Ten blue bolts of energy streaked towards him as she skidded to a stop.
"Damn it!" Inuyasha brought his arm up protecting his face as the bolts hit him, piercing his robe and ripping into his skin, leaving a cold burning sensation on his skin. He glanced at the wounds to see frost had formed around the injury and the blood that would have run from the wound was frozen in place. "What the hell!"
Kagome dove forward at the kneeling male hanyou, her instinct and rage demanding a victory over him. Her claws reached his chest before his hands gripped her wrist stopping her from doing any real damage.
"Kagome enough!" Inuyasha yelled as his mate's red eyes burned into him.
Kagome began to take step after step, using raw power to push the male backwards.
"This has to end now..." Inuyasha waited for Kagome to be mid step to twist and pull as he tumbled to the ground with her. He was growling as he pinned her arms, having to use more strength than he thought it should take. "KAGOME!" He yelled glaring down at the girl.
The girl's eyes remained red as she managed to break free and kicked the male away. She was pulling herself to her feet as a white light seemed to engulf her.
Inuyasha sat on the ground watching in terror as his mate screamed in pain. A moment later Kagome stood on shaky legs, her arms hanging limply at her side as she stared up at the morning sky. Her brown eyes dazed and tears started to fill them. Inuyasha had made it to his knees when another flash swept Kagome as her eyes shifted to bright blue, while cute dog ears and tail flashed back into existence. Tears still rolled down her cheeks as she collapsed to the ground, her world slipping into darkness.
Inuyasha sat staring for a moment before ignoring his wounds and rushing to her side. "Kagome! KAGOME!"
"What smells like blood?" Kagome muttered before passing out completely.
