Milkshake & Mochi- Wrong order

Warning: English is not my first language, sorry if there are some grammar mistake.

23 August.

The morning atmosphere in Konoha village looks so peaceful. Clear skies, white clouds and blue skies, as well as a gentle breeze create the perfect atmosphere to start the day. Some residents are seen starting to carry out their respective activities, as well as the ninja.

Shikamaru and Temari were seen walking hand in hand towards the Hokage's office. They needed to report some things related to the alliance meeting that had just been held in Konoha village.

"Hah ... this is really troublesome, I should have today off," said Shikamaru lazily.

Shikamaru was supposed to take a day off today, but suddenly he was 'forced' to help Temari complete the alliance documents which of course he was happy to do even though 'troublesome' mumbles always came out of his mouth.

"Stop complaining kid, it's still morning," Temari said annoyed.

Although not many know, today is her birthday. Today, Temari turns 22 years old. And now, she couldn't spend her special day at home. She was in Konoha, which was three days away from her village, without her two younger siblings, and what was even worse she had to do tasks related to the alliance meeting. Not to mention having to listen to the complaints that keep coming out of Shikamaru. really a great way to pass her birthday!.

Gaara and Kankurou had already apologized to her and promised that they would celebrate when Temari returned to the village. Temari sighed, it couldn't be helped... with her position as Suna's ambassador and representative in the Shinobi Alliance making her very busy, and she couldn't just turn down an assignment for selfish reasons like a birthday.

Temari bit the mochi in her hand, eating while walking was not good etiquette. But Temari had no other choice. She had to make time for breakfast on the sidelines of his busy schedule.

"Hmm ... its delicious," muttered Temari.

Shikamaru looked at Temari who was hungrily eating her mochi which somehow made him feel hungry too.

"You want a bite?" offered Temari.

Without thinking, Shikamaru immediately ate the mochi that Temari offered him. Not a bite, but he ate it up.

"You!, what are you doing?! I said a bite! Just a bite!" Temari shouted angrily.

"What a drag... you stingy woman!" Shikamaru replied as he walked ahead of Temari, speeding up his steps to avoid Temari's tantrum.

Temari was really annoyed now that her breakfast was snatched away by this lazy pineapple-haired youth. It felt like Temari wanted to fly him to Kumo if only they didn't have to face the Hokage that morning. Temari's thoughts were interrupted when a young man called out to her from afar.

"Tema-Chan!" Temari turned around and looked at the person who called out to her in annoyance.

Only one person he knew dared to call him that, who else if not...

"Tsukio! How many times do I have to tell you, don't call me that ridiculous name!" Temari hissed angrily.

While the young man called Tsukio just smirked, "Don't be so angry... don't you really miss me?"

Shikamaru who was standing next to Temari frowned slightly in displeasure. He wondered, who was this young man in front of him who dared to call Temari with Tema-Chan, and what did he mean by saying that Temari missed him. Shikamaru felt his chest heat up. No, he wasn't jealous. More precisely, Shikamaru knew that he had no right to be jealous. After all, his relationship with Temari was only as a work partner. They had indeed dated once after a mission in the Land of Silence. But, it was far from being a typical date, rather they were just having lunch and discussing work. And after that, neither of them talked about it or planned how their relationship would continue. They were too busy with work, and Shikamaru felt that both Temari and himself were satisfied with their current relationship. Shikamaru thought so.

"Stop joking, Tsukio. What are you doing here?" Temari asked while furrowing her brows. It was unusual for him to see that young man in Konoha.

"I delivered a message from Gaara," Tsukio said as he handed a document into Temari's hand.

'Who is he actually, calling the Kazekage directly by his name' thought Shikamaru. This young man must be quite close to Temari considering he boldly addressed the Kazekage directly by a no-frills name. "

You? Delivering Gaara's message? What happened in Suna that a head of the Intelligence Division had to bother delivering messages instead of another messenger?" Temari asked indifferently.

"You're so mean, even though I went to the trouble of specifically asking Gaara to give this task to me. It's because you didn't return to the village..." Tsukio said.

Temari still hasn't made a sound, she's still looked at Tsukio with a question mark, as if still not satisfied with that answer.

"I want to meet you, after all it's your birthday right? Every year we always celebrate together," Tsukio smiled as he took out a box tied with a ribbon and handed it to Temari, "Otanjoubi Omedeto, Tema-Chan" he said with a big smile.

Shikamaru flinched. He just realized today is Temari's birthday. And he forgot about it. Meanwhile, this young man remember it.

"Ah, you remember apparently... thank you, Tsukio" Temari smiled gently.

"Then, when will you return to the village?" Tsukio asked with a wide grin.

"Uhm... I don't know. I still have some paperwork to do with Shikamaru... ah, that's right. I haven't introduced you guys yet," Temari said.

Finally the girl realized the existence of Shikamaru who seemed to be forgotten since Tsukio's arrival.

"This is Shikamaru Nara, Konoha's representative in the Shinobi alliance," Temari said introducing Shikamaru.

"I've heard about you, Mr. Nara. Tema-Chan has told me a lot about you. You led the fourth division in the previous war, didn't you?" Tsukio smiled.

"Ah, thank you" replied Shikamaru, for some reason he was a little disturbed by the call 'Tema-Chan' that kept coming from the young man's mouth. Shikamaru was sure, if someone else had done it, Temari would have flown that person to Kumogakure or Iwagakure. But why is Temari silent with this young man's behavior? Shikamaru thought.

"And this is Tsukio, Head of Suna's Intelligence Division," Temari said.

"And a Childhood frieend of Tema-Chan," Tsukio continued Temari's words and immediately got a sharp glare from the girl.

"Yes, stupid friend who has always followed me everywhere since childhood," Temari said mockingly then lightly hit Tsukio's shoulder, but there was no hint of trouble in her voice.

"You're so mean, Tema-Chan," Tsukio rubbed his shoulder which was the target of Temari's punch.

Temari chuckled. Shikamaru was jealous, he rarely saw Temari laugh and now the young man in front of him could easily make Temari laugh.

"But I'm serious, Tsukio. Stop calling me by that stupid name if you still love your life," Temari threatened while glaring at Tsukio.

"Huh, always fierce..." Tsukio grumbled.

" What did you say?"

Shikamaru really felt like his existence was forgotten now. He cleared his throat softly to remind them that he was still there.

"Ah, I just remembered. Sorry to keep you waiting, Shikamaru. Tsukio, we both have to deliver documents to the Hokage's office," Temari said.

"Is that so? Oh yeah, how about we go to a shop near here, I see they just sell a new Mochi. You like sweets, don't you?" take Tsukio.

'Even this young man knows Temari's favorite food, but no wonder, they have been friends since childhood' Shikamaru thought. He also had plans to take Temari to Amaguriama after hearing that the shop was releasing a new product, namely limited edition mochi. Unfortunately, this step was preceded by Temari's friend.

"Okay, I'll finish my work first. We'll meet at 4," said Temari.

She turned to continue walking towards the Hokage's office and was followed by Shikamaru. After reporting to the Hokage, they continued their activities by working on documents in the data room. Temari and Shikamaru sat side by side busy researching the data on the stacked sheets of paper in front of them. Occasionally they discuss or scribble on the paper. It didn't feel like time had passed and their work was almost done. Temari raised her arms up to stretch her body. Sitting too long makes the shoulders and back hurt. She looked at the gift from Tsukio which was still untouched, she grabbed it and opened it. Shikamaru sat next to him, watching Temari open the gift.

"So..." Shikamaru spoke up.

"Hmm?" Temari answered without looking at him, her hands still busy opening the gift.

"It's your birthday today?" Shikamaru asked.

"That's it," Temari replied curtly.

Actually she was a little disappointed that Shikamaru didn't remember her birthday, because on that day she hoped a little to get congratulations from the young man.

"Ehm ... then happy birthday, Temari," said Shikamaru while scratching the back of his head.

"Hn, thank you." Temari smiled.

Temari opened the box, inside was a simple necklace with a gold fan-shaped pendant, much like Temari's Tessen.

"Heh... necklace huh?" Temari muttered as she studied the necklace in more detail.

She smiled crookedly. It seemed that Temari liked the gift. Temari looked at the box, there was a folded paper there. It looked like a letter, he opened it and read it. Shikamaru who was sitting next to him could also accidentally read the letter because the girl put the paper on the table.

For my friend, Thank you for accompanying me all the time

Thank you for guard, and protect me.

I just want you to know that I love you.

More than just friends.

Shikamaru's eyes widened at the letter. 'What is a love letter?' Shikamaru thought. Shikamaru never imagined that someone would give a love letter to Suna's princess. It wasn't that Temari wasn't beautiful and attractive, but Shikamaru was sure that none of the men were brave enough to approach Temari. He looked up to see Temari's reaction. There was a slight blush on the girl's face. The two of them were lost in their own thoughts. Shikamaru thought Temari liked Tsukio, remembering the girl's reaction to seeing his 'love letter'. But what Shikamaru didn't know. Temari blushed for a completely different reason than what he thought. The girl was just not used to and embarrassed to see such romantic writing. And again, with just one glance, Temari knew immediately that the letter wasn't for her, and wasn't even written by Tsukio.

'That kid... you reckless, I'm sure this time will be the same as before' Temari thought while remembering the past events of herself and Tsukio. Remembering it made her chuckle. Temari got up and tidied up her things.

"Where are you going?" Shikamaru asked.

"Hm? I have an appointment with Tsukio, you remember right?" Temari replied.

Shikamaru just sighed as the girl stepped out of the room. And here they are now. Temari, Tsukio, and Shikamaru. They sat at Amaguriama, at separate tables of course.

Temari and Tsukio were at one table while Shikamaru was at another table in the corner of the room, which was quite hidden but clear enough for Shikamaru to see them. He saw Temari and Tsukio chatting while laughing. Tsukio was seen acting awkwardly with a red face and scratching the back of his head. A moment later, Temari took out a paper and handed it to Tsukio while grinning widely and flicking the boy's forehead. And Tsukio looked down with a face that was completely red. Shikamaru really couldn't take it anymore. His chest felt hot. He knew that he had no right to forbid Temari from having date with other men, but at the same time his heart didn't want to see his 'girl' snatched in front of his own eyes. He got up and went to Temari's table and pulled the girl out of the shop leaving Tsukio who had a shocked face but couldn't do anything when his 'partner' was brought out.

"Oi Shikamaru, let me go. What's the matter with you?! Appearing suddenly and bothering me like this!" Temari said angrily as she pulled her hand away.

"Sorry if I disturbed your 'date'" Shikamaru replied nonchalantly and a little annoyed.

"Dating? What do you mean?" Temari looked at the young man in confusion.

"Didn't you receive a love letter from him?"

"A love letter? Oh, I know now ... you're peeking," Temari said.

"If so, what?" Shikamaru replied no less fiercely.

Veins of anger appeared on Temari's forehead, "Listen, Mr. Nara, the letters were swapped," said Temari.

"Huh?"

"The letter from Tsukio to me was swapped while he was preparing a present for me. And I returned the letter to him. Now, I hope you have a good reason for all this!" Temari said angrily, her hand moving to grab her Tessen.

"Ah, Uh, T-that..." Shikamaru was at a loss for words.

That night, Konoha residents were shocked by a typhoon that hit the area and the Hokage's assistant was flown into the sky.

Omake

"Ehm... Tema-Chan... Th-that..." Tsukio scratched his head nervously. His face blushed a little. He tried to string the right words so that tonight wouldn't be his last night.

" What?" Temari smiled mischievously.

She already knew the meaning of this conversation, but she wanted to tease Tsukio. It's nice to see this young man's reaction.

"Th-the letter..." Tsukio said quietly.

"You mean this letter?" Temari smirked while showing the letter that was in her gift box a while ago.

"Th-that..." Tsukio's face turned red.

"Never mind. I got it, this isn't for me right?"

"Huh? How do you know?" Tsukio asked.

"Of course I know. Your writing can't be this neat. After all, since when did a kid like you write romantic sentences like this," Temari laughed, handing the letter to Tsukio while flicking the boy's forehead.

Now that Tsukio's face was completely red, he scratched the back of his head nervously.

"So who is that unlucky woman? Do I know her?" Temari sneered.

"Ah, that's... Sen," Tsukio said.

"Huh? Sen? You mean our friend Sen? Wow, wow, wow, I didn't think ..." Temari laughed.

Letter

"Stop making fun of me, Tema-Chan!"

"Heh, after sending me a love letter now you're acting like this to me?" Temari sneered.

"Tema-Chan!"

"Okay, I get it. I won't make fun of you anymore. But I remind you, you better fix that reckless nature of yours. Your actions could lead to serious events if anyone misunderstood. And... you better stop calling me Tema-Chan, otherwise this secret will be spread throughout Suna village," Temari threatened.

"Okay, I understand. Temari," said Tsukio.

Temari laughed in satisfaction. And the next second the laughter turned to anger when a man with pineapple hair pulled her out.
