Gwen was awoken to the sound of May checking peters vitals, as she wiped his face off with a cloth.
Gwen looked to Peter, who's eyes were still shuttered shut, and who still looked pale.
"Sorry to wake you sweetie." May said
"It's okay" she said, as she gently brushed the hair out of her face.
"How is he doing?" Gwen asked, as May stepped over and sat next to her.
"He's doing okay." May said as she softly smiled. "He's gonna be okay, don't you worry sweethart."
Gwen weakly smiled. "I'm sorry that I didn't tell you about him, I'm sorry that he's hu-" gwen said, before May interrupted her.
"Gwen, it's okay, I understand that he was just being Peter, it's not your fault." She assured her.
May went over to Peter and sat near where his head was. She brushed her fingers through his hair.
"Peter has always, been the one to get himself into dangerous situations, it's just what he's good at." May said, as she looked down to her baby boy's closed eyes.
Gwen smiled, this time with more happiness.
"Is he in any pain?" She asked
"No, they've got him on so many pain killers and the sedation is heavy, so he won't feel any of the pain." May softly said
Gwen nodded, before she looked back to Peter.
"Sweetheart, I have got to get to other patients, you should get some more sleep, I'll let you know if anything changes." May said
Gwen nodded, and realized how tired she was.
She layed back down, and got comfortable as May flickered the lights off and left the room.
She fell asleep, as her mind faded into a starry night's sky.
Her mind drifted until she found herself atop a skyscraper in the city. She had recognized where she was. It was ontop of the Empire State. A place that Peter loves.
She looked around, to find someone standing near the edge of the platform, wearing a blue jacket, clutching a red beanie. She stepped closer to them. She realized that it was Peter, staring off into the distance.
"Peter." She whispered, as she stepped closer and closer to him, "Peter" she repeated louder.
Her gently turned over and looked at her, as his eyes glistened in the moonlight, and the shimmer glared over his form.
"Gwen" he asked, as he stared into her eyes. He kept on looking at her until he decided to walk closer, until he met her.
"Peter, what are you doing here?" Gwen asked
"It's always been a place I could go to when I needed to think." Peter said, "you know. I always come here when I need to be with people I love." He added, as he stepped closer to the ledge.
"It's so beautiful up here." She said, admiring the beauty of the night sky, lit up by the streetlights, and dusty stars up in the distance.
"It always reminds me, that the closer we get to the sky, the closer I am to them." He said.
She smiled brightly, as she enjoyed being closer to him, and truly feeling his presence. She joined him in looking out into the New York City skyline, painted in beautiful crystal stars.
"Where are you right now Peter?" She asked
"I'm somewhere where, the stars are so close, that I can almost grasp them, I'm somewhere, where whenever I want to, I can see my past, and the people I lost, but not quite reach them." Peter said
"What's it like up there." She asked
"You're there right now," he said, as she realized the stars growing closer and closer to her face. the sky expanded, and began to turn different colors of purple, blue, and red. Shooting stars, and comets, and meteors floated by in the near distance.
"We all still live under the same stars, no matter how far away from one another we are." He said, as memories of his parents drifted atop his head, in patterns of dust and glittery stars.
"How is this possible?" Gwen asked
"How is anything possible?" Peter said, "you have got to focus on the fact that it's happening, and that it's pretty amazing, Gwen.
She was right, it was amazing, she got to talk to Peter, she got to feel his existence again.
"I miss you a lot Peter." She said, stepping closer to her, as he put a hand on her back.
"I miss you too, Gwen." He said back to her, as she leant her head on his shoulder.
"Gwen!!" She heard someone call off in the distance.
She turned her head, to see another person standing on the other side of the platform, waving his arms at her.
He was tall, and in a black jacket, with a shiny emblem on it. His smile was warm, and made her feel, whole again. His blue eyes shined like diamonds in the sky.
"Dad?!" She questioned, looking at the figure closer
"Gwenie!!" He yelled again
"Dad!!!!" She yelled as she ran towards him, as he grew closer and closer, tears of joy fell down her face.
She ran until, she was in his arms.
"Dad, I miss you so much." She said
"I miss you too sweetie." He said softly as he kissed the top of her head.
"It's been so long." She said
"I know sweet girl." He whispered, as he kissed her forehead.
"I am so proud of you Gwenie. You are the most amazing young woman." He said
"I try my best." Gwen joked, as her dad slightly chuckled, "Daddy I'm so so-"
"Don't be sweetie, it's not your fault, it's not anyones fault. I've spent a long time looking back at my past, and I realized that there was so much I could have done."
"I love you, so much, dad."
"I love you too,"
Gwen stared up into the night sky, as the stars grazed over the horizon.
"How, how am I here?" She asked, looking into her father's eyes, as they shimmered in the light, and were glassy with tears of happiness.
"It's all because of someone," he said, as he looked to Peter, who was standing beside them now. His smile so geniune, and so happy.
"I had to let you see your dad Gwen." He said, as he smiled at the sight of Gwen over beaming with joy as she was in her father's embrace.
She mouthed the words 'thank you' before Peter nodded.
"I miss you both so much." Gwen said
"I know, honey, but I'll always be with you." He said
"I know, but it's not the same." She said
"We're together right now, so that's all we can focus on." He assured her, "it's all going to be okay."
"I was wrong about you too." Her dad said, "You too are truly good for each other, and I see how much you care for my daughter, and how you will always protect her." He said as he looked to Peter, who was still standing there.
"I'll always protect her." Peter said
"Then, break the damn promise." He said,
"Well, break it more than you already have." He joked, as both Peter and Gwen laughed.
They sat in silence, observing the sky around them, and enjoying being with each other. They didn't realize how much time had passed, and that the sky was slowly beginning to brighten.
She could stay in this moment forever, but she could feel her father slowly drifting away.
"Honey, I think our time is up." He said
"But I didn't get to see you for long" she whined, as if she was a five year old
"I know, but we still got to see each other." He said, as Gwen admired her fathers ability to always look for the good.
"You've got a successful life ahead of you gwen.", he said as he looked down to his daughter, "you both do." He added, looking to Peter, who was standing there.
"Peter are you coming back," Gwen asked
"I will be, I'll come back soon, I just need to do a few more things before I come home." He answered.
"Okay, but please come back soon, I can't live without you, Peter" she said
"I love you, Gwen, wait for me." He said
"I love you too, Peter, as long as you need."she said, slowly walking towards him, before she hugged him goodbye, as both he and her dad disappeared into the night sky, leaving her alone on the platform, surrounded by dust, and cloudy skies, before she opened her eyes, and was greeted by the blinding morning light, of the hospital room.
