G wen awoke to see the bright lights of the hospital room, where Peter still lay unconscious.
She sat up to look at him. His eyes were still shut, with the ventilator still down his throat.
It was all just a dream. It was all just a dream, none of it was real. This was reality. He was still in a coma, and was still hurt.
She came closer, and held his hand in hers.
"I'll always be here, I won't stop waiting for you." She said, as she leant her head down to be atop peters leg.
She must have gotten lost in her thoughts, cause the next time she thought again, may was in the room.
"Hey, gwen." She said
"Hey." She responded
"Sweetheart, you should go home, your parents are probably wondering where you are. You should take care of yourself." May suggested
Gwen didn't want to leave peters side, but she knew that it was the right thing to do. She was leaving him with his aunt who was also a nurse, so she knew that he would be okay.
"Okay." Gwen murmured
"He'll be okay, if anything is wrong, I'll call you sweetie."
"Thank you." Gwen responded, as she grabbed Peter's hand.
"I'm off my shift, and the doctors have to come in to change his bandages. His chest is still healing, so I'd recommend, that you don't see that."May suggested
"Okay." Gwen responded, as she snapped out of her thoughts, before she let go of the grip on peters hand, and stepped out of the room.
May sat in silence staring at Peter, as tears fell from her eyes.
"My sweet little boy." She said softly, as she gently wove her fingers through his hair.
"It's all gonna be okay. It's all gonna be fine."she assured him, as she kissed his forehead.
"We'll figure this all out. It will get better." She said, as she put one of her hands to cup his face. "Fight for me, Peter."
She sat in silence, looking at his lips that had become chapped due to the tube, his eyes that were slid shut, and his face, that was still pale like a piece of paper.
She had been around patients in comas and who were victims of being shot. But it was all different this time. It wasn't a random patient. It was her baby, her Peter. It was the little boy she had raised since he was a child, and loved more than anything else in the world. She let it hit her truly for the first time that she couldn't keep him safe, and that it was really him on the vent, and it was really him that had gotten shot.
She promised herself that she'd never cry in front of Peter, as he had already gone through so much loss in his life, but she couldn't help it. She let the sadness cave in, as her fear of losing him started to make her chest curl.
She must have gotten sidetracked, because the next thing she knew, doctors were coming in to check on him.
"Hey, may." One of the nurses said, as she came over and wrote down his vitals.
"Hey Andrea." She responded
"His vitals look good." Andrea announced, as may slightly smiled.
"Good," may said
"We're gonna change his dressings now, may, I don't know if you want to see-"
"No, it's okay, I can't leave him." May interrupted.
Andrea and a team of nurses proceeded to assess peters wounds.
They gently lifted his gown, to access his bandages.
May sat by him, and held his hand, as they pulled back the bandages, to reveal the incisions that the surgeons made.
The wounds were closed by stitches, but we're still bruised, and red from where his ribs were broken.
The nurses applied a cream to his chest, before wrapping his chest back up, and putting the brace back on his torso, for his back.
"His stitches are looking good, on both his stomach and his back." Andrea said, as she stepped closer to may.
"Good, that's great." May said
"May, are you alright?" Andrea questioned, noticing the tears freshly wet on mays face, and her drained expression.
"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'm….. fine." May responded, her voice slightly croaky from the tears clogging her throat.
"May, it's okay not to be okay." Andrea said.
"I know, but I can't focus on me, I have to focus on him." May softly said
"He's a strong kid," Andrea said
"He's the strongest person I know. He's always been like that. Always so strong during everything." May whispered, as more tears streamed down her face, and dripped down to the bed sheets beneath her.
"He's going to be alright." Andrea assured her.
"I know, I just, I feel like I failed him."
"May, you didn't fail him, okay. People get hurt, but they also get better. You are doing everything you can. He saves everyone in the town everyday, you raised him to be brave enough to do that." Andrea said
May looked up to Andrea, and smiled. He was brave, and he was all that she ever wanted him to be like.
"He'd want you to take care of yourself, may, he wouldn't want you to sit here all day crying." Andrea insisted
"I know, I will."
"I have to go, but if you need anything, we are all here for you." Andrea added
May mouthed the words 'thank you', before Andrea left the room, leaving her to her thoughts, alone with Peter again.
She looked to Peter's face. He still looked the same as the little boy that she accepted into her family.
That little boy was all grown up.
It didn't even hit her yet, that soon he'd be leaving her. Soon he'd be off to college, and she'd be all alone.
Instead of celebrating his graduation, they were in a hospital room. It was supposed the start of his life in the real world. But instead, he lay in a hospital room, with a ventilator going down his throat.
She felt all alone in this world, she felt like the one person that she had, wasn't really even there anymore.
Silence was all that she heard, since she was the only one conscious, she was the only one who could talk or move, the only other noises were the sound of the ventilator clunking as it shoved air down his lungs, and the slow beeping of Peter's machines monitoring his heartbeat.
She couldn't bare to listen to it anymore, in the utter silence, so she flickered on the tv that day in front of her.
As it turned on, she left it to the news station.
"The hero Spiderman, or Peter Parker, was severely injured when he was shot while fighting crime-boss Aleksei Sytsevich just yesterday night, Thursday. Karen Wells has the latest."
May didn't need to hear someone reporting on Peter, she was right there with him.
She looked away from the tv, and looked to Peter.
"Thanks Mary, we are now live from outside New York Presbyterian hospital, where he's being treated for his injuries. Citizens of New York City and the surrounding areas stand outside near where his hospital room is. A candlelight ceremony is being held for Spider-Man, but also for the brave hero behind the mask, Peter Parker."
The window showed slight light, as may stepped closer.
She opened the blinds and looked down to the street beneath them.
The pitch black sky, was brighter, as hundreds of people all held lit candles into the night sky.
All people, ranging from young to old, all stood in solitary, as they held hands, and prayed for Peter. Many of them even wore Spiderman shirts to show their support.
The togetherness of all those people to show their love and support for Peter have her a feeling that she had forgotten and kept completely buried, finally came out, she felt, hope.
-kamryn:) I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I'll upload again sometime within the next two days. I wanted to give may a chance to be with Peter, so that I could get ahead with other points.
