Chapter six-
Gwen and May all stood at the sides of peters bed, where the doctors were preparing to remove the tube.
"Is he going to be in any pain?" Gwen asked
"No, he should be okay. If will be uncomfortable, and his throat may hurt afterwards, but it should be painless." The doctor explained.
Gwen grabbed his hand, and may held his other, and brushed her fingers through his hair.
"We're gonna give him something to help him wake up a little, it will bring him to a higher level of consciousness." The doctor announced, as she held a syringe in her hand.
She stuck it into Peter's arm, as the medicine trickled into his bloodstream.
The other doctor gripped the tube.
"You ready?" The doctor asked.
"You've got this Peter." Gwen assured him, as she gripped his hand tighter.
When the other doctor nodded, he began to pull the tube out of his mouth.
Peter's eyes squeezed shut, as he groaned and began to tremble.
"Shhh, Peter, it's okay." Gwen assured him.
He kept on shaking and kept on groaning.
"Peter, look at me." She insisted
His eyes opened, as he looked at daylight for the first time in a while, as his eyes focused on Gwen. His chest felt numb, yet he could still feel pain, he couldn't feel his legs. He couldn't feel anything below his waste. He thought he should say something, but maybe it was just the medicine.
"Don't focus on it, okay? Focus on me." She whispered, as tears rolled down his face and hers.
"It's almost over Peter, it's almost over." She said, as his eyes glistened through the tears.
The doctor pulled the tube, and handed it to the other, as Peter tried to take a breath in.
Gwen felt her chest tighten, until he took a breath for himself, finally able to breathe on his own.
"Hey, hey, Peter." She said with pure joy, as he squeezed her hand.
"Hey." He said in a croaky and broken voice.
"Peter, try to not talk yet, your voice will come back soon, but you should rest." The doctor advised, as she placed a oxygen tube over his nose.
"It's okay, baby, just get some rest, we'll be here when you wake up." May assured him.
Peter looked to Gwen, who had tears running down her face.
"What's wrong?" He said softly, as his voice cracked.
"It's nothing, I'm just happy that you're okay." She whispered, as a genuine smile came across her face.
"It's all okay." She added.
He smiled using all his energy, before she kissed his forehead.
"Get some rest." She insisted, before he nodded, and let the darkness slip in as his eyes drifted closed.

The next time he could open his eyes, it seemed darker.
He opened his eyes to see Gwen sitting by his beside.
Her eyes bugged as she saw him open his.
"Hey." She said softly
"Hey." He responded
"Good morning sleepyhead." She joked, as she smiled brightly.
"What time is it?" He asked, as the daylight hit his eyes.
"You should probably ask what day it is." She said
He looked at her confused. "It's Wednesday, Peter, you were shot when fighting the rhino last Thursday, it was pretty bad." She answered.
"I've been out for six days?" He asked
"Yeah, Peter, it was bad, you were really hurt." Gwen responded sincerely.
"I feel really hurt." Peter murmured, as Gwen shifted her hands to be on the sides of his face.
"I know Peter, I know." She whispered, as he held her wrists lightly, pulling her forehead to his.
"I'm sorry I missed your speech." He apologized, as Gwen lightly shook her head and laughed.
"Peter, it doesn't matter. All that matters to me right now, is you, and getting you better and healthy." She assured him, as he nodded.
He pulled away, and leaned his head over to the side, noticing all the cards.
"Oh, these." Gwen said, noticing him looking at them. "These are all cards that people wrote you." She happily notes, as she picked up one, and laid it down in front of him.
The card was a drawing of Spiderman swinging around the city and through the beautiful sunset.
Gwen picked up the card and showed it to him. "People really care about you Peter." She commented.
"Really? 'Cause I feel like I've let everyone down."
"Peter, Peter, no." Gwen sighed, "don't ever think that okay, you protected everyone, okay, you did nothing wrong."
"Thanks Gwen." Peter muttered
"Look, this kid wants to be just like you Peter. He said he wants to be just like, not only Spiderman, but Peter Parker." She read, as Peter looked at the card she held up in front of him.
"How has the world been without Spiderman?" He asked
"It's been alright." Gwen said as she held peters hand that didn't have an iv in it.
"Yeah?" He wondered
"Yeah. But the world has not been the same without Peter Parker." She admitted
"I'm here now Gwen, and I'm not going anywhere" he assured her
"Good. Cause I need you." Gwen whispered, as she laid her head near his shoulder.
"How are you feeling?" She asked
"I'm alright, but my chest is hurting." Peter replied
"I'm sorry Peter, may should be in soon to check on you, and the doctors should be coming in tomorrow so that you can start to move more." Gwen told him
"Okay. It's alright for now, you being here is making it better." Peter said softly, as he held Gwen's hand.
"I'm not going anywhere Peter." She said.
