This story will be a small multi-crossover but it will take place mostly in The Legend of Korra universe.
Earth in the year 2185
"Every great moment in our history began with a dream. Each bold leap forward was achieved by those willing to do anything to attain it."
Everyone in the shuttle was looking at their home planet Earth for the last time in their lives.
"We are, all of us leaving behind families, homes, the very birthplace of our species. Some for discovery, to see the unknown. Others for a new start..."
The shuttle joined with the other shuttles and flew away from Earth towards the Moon.
"But today, whatever our reasons... We take the first steps toward a new future for humanity."
When the shuttles reached the Moon, they passed it and flew towards something else. Everyone in the shuttle moved to the window to see where they were going. After they passed the Alliance fleet, they saw in front of them a huge ship carrying thousands of human colonists preparing for launch.
"Today, we begin to make our dream a reality."
634 years later
It was quiet and peaceful in the dark space until a huge ship appeared out of nowhere. This ship was Ark Hyperion that was carrying 20 000 human colonists. The ship left Earth and traveled through dark space for over 600 years until it reached the edge of the Andromeda galaxy.
While the ship was flying towards its destination, the key members of the crew started to wake up from the cryo. One of them was a young man named Jason Connor who was part of the Pathfinder team.
He was still sleeping until he suddenly woke up and gasped for air. He took a few deep breaths until he took a look around and noticed that he was in the ship's cryogenics hall.
"We made it," Jason said.
He was about to get up but suddenly fell back on his bed.
"Deep breaths. You're gonna want to take it easy," the male technician said.
"But I have been taking easy in cryo for 600 years," Jason said.
"Connor, Jason, Recon Specialist, Pathfinder Mission Team," The female technician said as she checked Jason's file.
"Pathfinder Team eh? The ones finding us a home," the male technician said.
"Yeah, that's us," Jason confirmed.
"Can you make it to somewhere tropical? Nice warm ocean... summer year-round-
"How about we get him a cup of coffee first," the technician said.
"Yeah, I could really use some coffee," Jason agreed.
The technicians helped him up and took him to the infirmary where the other awakened members of the crew were. After Jason was given a cup of hot coffee, he sat down on the hospital bed and started drinking his coffee.
While drinking his coffee, Jason took a look around and saw a lot of exciting people who were eager to see what was waiting for them on the planet they were going to. But when he was about to drink again his coffee, he was greeted by someone.
"Hey, Jason. Long time no see bro," a member of the crew said.
Jason turned to the source of the voice and saw that it was his childhood friend Jake O'Neill and another member of the Pathfinder team. Jake was the team's combat engineer and was responsible for the team's equipment.
Jason carefully rose from his bed and gave a brotherly hug to his friend.
"Jake! Good to see you awake bro," Jason said being glad to see his friend after 600 years of sleep.
"You too bro. I can't believe it's been over 600 years since we left," Jake said after they broke the hug.
"Yeah, but it feels like it was yesterday," Jason said.
"What do you think we will find when we get to the Habitat 7?" Jake asked.
"I don't know but I think that's why we're going there. To explore the unknown," Jason said.
Before they could continue their conversation further, they were suddenly called through the ship's loudspeaker.
"This is the Pathfinder. Mission teams, begin the preparations. Connor, O'Neill, Ryders, Cora, report to the bridge," Alec Ryder said.
After that, the loudspeaker didn't say anything else. Jason and Jake looked at each other for a second until Jason spoke.
"I guess it's time to get to work," Jason said.
"That's what we signed up for and besides. We did sleep 600 years," Jake said.
Jason nodded and quickly drank his coffee. After he was done drinking, the two young men left the infirmary and headed to the tram. When they got into the tram, they met up with Cora and Scott Ryder.
"Are you two Connor and O'Neill?" Cora asked.
"That's us," Jason said.
"Then let's get to the bridge. We don't want to keep the Captain and Pathfinder waiting," Cora said.
Everyone nodded and Scott activated the tram's console to take them to the bridge. Luckily it only took a few minutes until they arrived at the bridge. But when they got there, things didn't look.
The Captain and the bridge crew just found out that they were off course. And because the long-range sensors were down, they couldn't see where they were. The repair team tried to get sensors back online but so far with no success.
When Jason and the others walked to the bridge, they saw Captain Dunn discussing with Alec and two other men about their current situation.
"We're lost," Dunn said.
"SAM, we need eyes out there," Alec said.
"Attempting to adjust sensor array," The AI named SAM said.
While they were drifting in space, the man Jason recognized as his father Jack Connor turned to them.
"Jason, glad to see you awake son," Jack said being glad to see Jason on his feet.
"You too, Dad," Jason said.
"I hate to break your family reunion but we need to focus," Jack's friend John Sumner said.
They nodded and looked outside there was nothing but space with no planets or solar systems. They didn't know why they were off course in the first place. Some said that maybe the navigation system was damaged during their flight to Andromeda while others said that perhaps the coordinates they set weren't correct.
"How can we be lost?" Scott asked.
"I don't know but we'll have to find out where we are. SAM," Alec said.
"Yes, Pathfinder," SAM said.
"Are there any planets in range?" Alec asked.
"One moment," SAM said.
The crew waited with their hopes up until SAM spoke again.
"There seems to be a habitable planet nearby," SAM said.
"Show it," Alec said.
SAM showed them a holographic image of the planet they detected. It wasn't Habitat 7 but seemed to be a perfect place to stay for a while until they can find Nexus and other Arks.
"Looks like a good place to lay low for a while," Jake said.
"We should go to check it out," Jason suggested.
"We don't even know what is waiting for us on that planet," Dunn protested.
"We know the risks Captain but we can't stay in space forever. Sooner or later we'll have to find someplace to stay until we find the Nexus," Jack said.
Dunn knew that they had a point but the risks were just too high. But they didn't have a lot of options on this one. They were lost and had no way of contacting Nexus or the other Arks so their only option was to go to see if the planet they found was perfect to be their safe harbor.
"Alright, just make it quick," Dunn said.
After Dunn gave them her permission to go to the planet, Alec, Jack, and Sumner turned to Jason and the others.
"Connor, Harper, the rest of the team should be awake by now. Have them spin up two shuttles. Planetfall in thirty," Alec said.
"Yes sir," Jason and Cora said.
After that, they began their preparations for the recon mission.
Meanwhile on the planet
The Glacier Spirit Festival was coming in the Southern Water Tribe but it was still too early for the festival to begin. The Avatar named Korra was waiting excitingly for the festival to begin but before that, she wanted to catch up with her friends and family. The ship she was on soon arrived in the harbor where her parents along with Katara and her daughter Kya were waiting. But Tenzin's kids beat her to it when they went to hug Katara and Kya.
"Gran-Gran!" The youngest airbending kids said as they hugged their grandmother.
"Oh, you've all gotten so big," Katara said happily before Jinora hugged her aunt Kya.
"We missed you, aunt Kya," Jinora said making her laugh a little (Jinora is 18-years old in this story).
"Oh, I missed you too Jinora. And look at you, you've grown into a beautiful young woman," Kya said admiring Jinora's beauty.
"Thanks, aunt Kya," Jinora said blushing a little.
Kya soon noticed that her brothers walked to the harbor from the ship with Pema who was holding her newborn son.
"Your father doesn't bring you around nearly enough. He's probably scared that I'll beat him up like when we were kids," Kya said lightly punching Tenzin's shoulder.
"I'm not scared of you... Anymore," Tenzin said while rubbing his shoulder.
Their family reunion was soon interrupted when Bumi stepped in.
"Aah, the famous children of Aang are finally reunited," Bumi said with a smirk.
"Nice to see you too Bumi," Kya said as she crossed her arms.
"Come on now little sister. Aren't you gonna hug your big brother?" Bumi asked as he spread his arms.
"Sorry but I can't give you a hug because you haven't had a bath," Kya said making Bumi frown.
"Hmph, same old Kya. No wonder you haven't found yourself a husband," Bumi said.
But as soon as he said, he received a punch on his head from Kya who felt very insulted about what Bumi said. She thought that her brother knew how insulted she felt when they talked about her not being married, not having a good man in her life, or having kids yet. Kya has tried to find someone to share her heart with for her whole life but so far everyone she tried to date was only interested in her because she was the daughter of Avatar Aang.
She only wanted a man who would truly love her and not because of her looks but for who she is. But after years of trying, she didn't find anyone to share her heart with and eventually gave up. Katara told her that she shouldn't give up but she said no because right now her chances of finding someone to love seemed hopeless.
"That was very rude of you Bumi. You know how I feel when you say something like that," Kya said angrily.
"I'm sorry sis, I didn't mean to upset you," Bumi apologized while rubbing his head.
But unfortunately for him, it was gonna take a lot more than a simple apology to get Kya's forgiveness after insulting her about her life of romance. While the three siblings were having a conversation, Korra was hugging her parents after a long time of being away from her home.
After Korra broke the hug with her parents, she introduced her friends to them who were excited to meet her parents face-to-face.
"Mom, dad, these are my friends. Asami, Mako, and Bolin," Korra said introducing her friends to her parents.
"It's an honor to meet you," Mako said offering his hand.
"Likewise," Asami agreed.
"I hope you three are not getting my daughter into any more trouble in the city," Tonraq said as he crossed his arms.
This made Mako and Asami a little scared and Bolin panic a little because they definitely didn't want to piss off Korra's father who didn't look very pleased about their recent battle with Amon and the Equalists a few weeks ago.
"Uh, no. Of course not sir," Mako said trying to come up with a quick answer that would not get them in trouble with Korra's father.
"Yeah, we're just..." Asami tried to say something.
"Uh oh, I think this guy is very mad at us," Bolin whispered to Mako and Asami as he was about to get a panic attack.
They stood there quiet until Tonraq let out a little laugh which confused Korra's friends a little.
"Hahaha, I was just messing with you," Tonraq said.
Korra's friends sighed in relief which made Korra feel happy that her father excepted her friends as they were. Their moment was suddenly broken when a ship with the Northern Water Tribe flag arrived in the harbor. The ship lowered its bridge and a man with two teenagers came from the ship.
"The great chief of the Northern Water Tribe comes to grace us with his presence. Hooray," Tonraq said mockingly.
"Just relax, Tonraq. He'll be gone soon enough," Senna said making him grumble.
Korra could tell that her father wasn't happy to see her uncle but this is a day of celebration and she didn't want it to be ruined by a huge fight between two brothers.
Meanwhile in space
Ark Hyperion was now close enough to the planet to sent their recon team to see if the planet they found was safe enough to use it as a safe harbor until they could find the Nexus and other Arks.
Jason and the rest of the team were in the locker room putting on their equipment. While everyone was getting ready, Jason put on his black Initiative armor (the picture of the armor is in my Deviantart profile JasonConnor19).
"Nice armor," Jake said.
"Thanks, yours looks cool as well," Jason said. (Jake has the same black Initiative armor as Jason except it has red markings on it)
After they got their armor on, they heard Scott's conversation with Cora and decided to join in.
"My sister's going to hate that she missed this," Scott said.
"Are all the Ryders adrenaline junkies?" Cora asked.
"I guess it's in our blood," Scott said.
"Well, your family is not the only one who has a thing for exploring the universe," Jason said.
"Yeah, and don't worry. Your sister is gonna be okay," Jake said.
"Thanks, guys. It feels good to have friends who actually care," Scott said.
"I hate to break your friendly moment but we're gonna be late," Cora said.
"Oh right," the three young men said.
They walked to the lockers and got their helmets for the trip, The next thing they needed was weapons. They opened the locker and began choosing which weapon they were gonna take. After they made their choice, each of them took a weapon they wanted. Scott took an M-3 Predator pistol, Jake took an X5 Ghost assault rifle (with scope), and Jason took an M-8 Avenger assault rifle (with scope).
"I hope we won't need these," Scott said.
"Yeah, but we'll have to be prepared in case we encounter something dangerous on the planet," Jason said.
"But if we do, at least we have something to shoot," Jake said.
"Come on, the Pathfinder is waiting," Cora said.
Everyone nodded and headed to the hangar. When they got there, the team had everything ready for the mission. The shuttles were loaded with the equipment they needed and all members of the team were in the hangar.
When the team gathered in the hangar, Alec along with Jack and Sumner came out of one of the shuttles.
"Alright team, button it up. We leave in five," Alec said.
"Sir, we broke out the weapons as requested. Anything we should know about?" Cora asked.
"Seemed prudent, given the situation. SAM also detected something on the planet's surface. We don't know what it is but we need to be precautions in this one," Alec said.
"You always said that before going to the missions during our days in N7," Jack said.
"Yeah, but always for a good reason," Sumner said as he remembered their days in the N7 program.
Alec simply smiled when he remembered his soldier days with his friends when they were younger. But they soon turned their attention to the team and Alec began his speech.
"Okay team, listen up. We chose each of you for the Pathfinder team, not just because you're talented and passionate. But because you're dreamers, like us. We dream of exploring the unknown, of finding the edge of the map, and then discovering what lies beyond."
Everyone in the team listened carefully to Alec's speech as he continued.
"When people look back on this and they will, they'll remember we didn't give up. We kept dreaming. That our first few faltering steps in Andromeda were the beginning of everything they know. We only get one chance to be first. So let's go make history."
After Alec finished his speech, everyone stepped into the shuttles and prepared for launch. After Captain Dunn permitted them to go, the shuttles left the Ark and headed towards the planet.
Flying to the planet was easy but getting through the atmosphere was the hard part. But when they finally got through the atmosphere, the team in the shuttles took a look at the snowy and icy paradise they saw. And it was a beautiful sight because the light of the moon was shining the ice and snow on the planet's surface.
"Whoa, you don't see that every day," the team member named Liam said.
"Yeah, no kidding," Jake agreed.
Suddenly they received urgent news from SAM.
"I'm detecting life forms on the planet's surface," SAM said.
"What kind of life forms?" Jack asked.
"They appear to be human but I can't say for sure until we get a closer scan," SAM said.
"Anything else?" Sumner asked.
But before SAM could answer, they saw what looked like a village made of snow and some distance away from it was an alien structure (Remnant structure). Alec contacted Captain Dunn and told her about their discovery.
"Hyperion, this is the Pathfinder. We've got evidence of civilization and we also found some kind of alien structure," Alec said through the radio.
"Understood, Pathfinder. Keep me posted," Dunn said.
After Alec finished his radio call, questions started running in the team's heads.
"Did they see us?" Jason asked.
"Is it safe to land?" Jake asked.
"What if they're not friendly?" Liam asked.
"We stick to the contact protocol: No use of deadly force unless hostile intent is clear," Sumner said.
"I just hope our first contact won't be hostile with the natives of this planet," Jack said.
"Me too, Dad," Jason agreed.
"Set us down some distance away from the settlement and the alien structure," Alec told the pilot.
"Yes sir," the pilot said.
They landed their shuttles a safe distance away from the settlement and the structure to avoid detection and possible hostile reaction from the natives. After the team made sure that the area was secure with their scanners, they stepped out of their shuttles and took their first steps in the Andromeda galaxy.
"Wow, this is really happening," Jason said feeling very excited.
"A little cold but this place is worth exploring," Jake said agreeing with Jason.
"I hate to break your moment of excitement but we've got a job to do," Jack said.
The young men nodded and joined the others as they walked towards the settlement they saw during the flight.
Meanwhile with Korra and the others (a few minutes earlier)
Korra and her friends had a lot of fun at the festival. They played a lot of games, eat almost every food they could buy, and spent some quality time with Korra and Tenzin's families. Of course, Tenzin had a little trouble with his siblings who still argued about what Bumi said about Kya's romantic life earlier but luckily Tenzin was able to calm them down before it could've turned into a disaster.
Korra and her friends were about to go to Korra's home until they saw two shooting stars in the sky.
"Hey, look. Shooting stars," Bolin said being excited. "Anyone want to make a wish?"
"Oh, oh, I want to make a wish," Ikki said while jumping many times.
"But it's my turn. I haven't made a wish since I was eight years old," Bumi complained.
While some of them started to argue who should make a wish, Kya thought that she should try it even though she didn't believe in wishes anymore. But it couldn't do any harm so she decided to try her luck.
"I wish I will find a perfect man I have been searching for my whole life. Please, I have waited many years to find him, I don't wanna be alone for my whole life," Kya thought as she made her wish to the shooting star.
But that didn't go unnoticed, Korra saw Kya looking at the shooting stars and could tell that she was making a wish. Korra wasn't sure what Kya was wishing for but it had to be something that would make her happy.
"Whatever you're wishing for Kya, I hope it will make you happy," Korra thought.
But after Kya made her wish, the fire around the shooting stars disappeared and they saw two metal objects flying towards the ancient structure next to the settlement.
"What are those?" Mako asked.
"Yeah, they didn't look like shooting stars to me," Asami said.
"They flew towards the Altar of the Ancients," Unalaq said.
"Doesn't matter. We should go and check it out," Korra suggested.
They were not sure about her proposal but nodded and headed towards the area where the 'shooting stars' went. Luckily it didn't take long until they reached the structure Unalaq told them about but they didn't see anything strange so far.
"Are you sure this is the right direction?" Bumi asked as he took a look around.
"Whatever flew in the sky obviously came to this way," Tenzin said.
"But how do we know that they're friendly? What if they're a new secret enemy?" Bumi said proudly.
"Grow up Bumi. You're still acting like when we were kids," Kya said.
But before Bumi could answer, something came from under the snow. Dozens of squid-like machines (Remnant Observes) soon had them surrounded and blocked all their escape routes.
"What are those things?" Mako asked.
"I don't know but they're not certainly a welcoming committee," Bolin said feeling pressure rising.
They stood still and were ready to fight but didn't do anything until one of the machines suddenly sent a strange red light at them but it didn't hurt them.
"What is it doing?" Korra asked.
"I don't know," Tenzin said.
But after the light disappeared, the squid-like machines went into defense mode and fired beams at Korra and her friends. They were able to dodge them but it didn't stop the machines from firing again.
"Those things definitely aren't friendly," Korra said.
"Focus Korra. Use whatever you got," Kya advised.
Korra nodded and started to use her bending to deal with the bots. The Avatar and benders were able to take out most of the bots they just kept coming no matter how many they destroyed. Kya was about to take down another bot until one of them fired a beam under her feet making a hole where she fell into.
"Kya!" Korra yelled.
She tried to get to Kya but the bots quickly had her surrounded. Kya checked herself and didn't find anything broken but she didn't get a chance to get up because one of the bots flew above her.
The bot looked at Kya for a second until it started to charge its beam. Kya felt scared and sad that her life was about to come to an end and she didn't get a chance to make her wish to become real. She closed her eyes and prepared herself but she suddenly heard a loud noise and the bot above her fell on the snow broken.
She carefully opened her eyes and suddenly they widened when she saw a stranger in front of her wearing strange armor with an N7 mark on his chest plate and holding what looked like a weapon (M-6 Carnifex pistol). The stranger offered her a hand and spoke.
"Are you alright?" The stranger asked.
Kya slowly nodded and grabbed the stranger's hand who helped her to get up. She took a look around and saw more strangers wearing similar armor and weapons the stranger in front of her was carrying. She turned back to the stranger and asked his name.
"Who are you?" Kya asked.
The stranger answered by taking off his helmet and revealing his face to Kya. She immediately blushed when she saw the stranger's face. He had white skin, brown hair, green eyes, and a little brown beard on his jaw.
"I'm Jack Connor. And you are?" Jack asked after he introduced himself.
"I'm Kya," Kya introduced herself after she recovered from her blush.
Jack and his team took a look around and saw the mess they made by shooting the bots into a scrap metal.
"I guess we have a lot of explaining to do," Jason said while rubbing his helmet.
