I had a shower and then sat at my vanity to do my makeup and hair. I curled my hair so my curls framed my face and then I slipped into the new red leather tight trousers I brought earlier today and a white and red crop top showing my stomach. It was still very warm outside so I just put on a very thin jacket in case it got chilly later since we were at the beach.
I took the biggest breath as I got closer to the beach. I could hear people laughing and the music playing. No doubt this was McKenzie's idea. I roll my eyes at that and head towards the party. I got a few stares as I walked further into the party.
I am head cheerleader and I am popular so I usually got the stares and the talks, but that was mostly when I was hanging off of Julian's arm so I didn't know how to feel about it now I wasn't his girl anymore.
And then the wolf whistling started making me blush just that little. It actually made me feel better about myself.
"Wow" I turned around and saw Rachel, Peyton and Haley walking towards me "you look amazing Brooke"
"Thank you" Rachel passes me a drink which I take and take a big gulp.
The girls and I walked around the party for a little bit and then Haley went off with Nathan a guy from the basketball team that she has been talking to for a while now and Peyton and Rachel went to join in with a drinking game so I headed to the drinking station for another drink.
"Brooke?" I roll my eyes at that voice knowing who it was. I haven't been avoiding him, but I hadn't seen him yet either and with a girl hanging off his arm I now knew why "you're looking good" he sounded surprised, but I ignore that and gulp at my drink "McKenna can you go talk to a friend or something" the girl nodded and walked off when she saw a friend of hers at the bonfire "you haven't messaged me back" he states
"I know" I shrug "I told you this" I point between us "isn't going to happen again"
"Yeah, but you always say that Brooke" he laughed shaking his head stepping towards me "you know we are meant to be"
I laughed this time and stepped towards him "you broke up with me Julian, so if we were meant to be then you shouldn't have done that"
"I wanted to live my summer before senior year Brooke, before we move towards our future together. I told you that"
I kink my eye brow up at him and shake my head "so you wanted me to what, wait for you?" the look on his face told me all "you have got to be kidding me. You've slept with half the girls in our year Julian because you wanted to what, get it out your system, but you wanted me to stay by your side. Well I'm not doing that anymore" I make clear "I'm done"
"Brooke listen to me okay you can't end us"
"I didn't end us Julian, you did remember" I reply "I'm just ending the toxic bond we've had between us since. It's not good for my mental state and I'm not letting you do this to me"
"But Brooke you can't just stop loving me" I could see him slightly begin to get mad "you can't just fucking leave me!" the last part his voice raised and I flinched just a little not expecting him to act like this. Not in public anyway. Not in front of our friends. Eyes darted towards us "you can't do this Brooke. I won't let you do this"
"You won't let me" I laugh at that "I don't need your permission Julian. This is my life and you chose not to be in it anymore. That's on you not me"
Julian stepped closer so we were inches apart now "Brooke you are not doing this" the look on his face I haven't seen before. He was mad. Really mad and I didn't like the look on his face.
"Julian..." I go to say when I felt a presence beside me.
"Oh there you are" it was the guy from earlier at Starbucks "I've been looking for you" he smiled down at me making my body go calm again "did you get your drink" I looked down at the plastic red cup in my hand and decided to go along with him.
"Yeah thanks and here is yours" I pass him a cup of beer too.
"Oh sorry mate how rude of me" the guy turns to Julian "I'm Lucas, I just transferred from Charlotte"
Julian looked from Lucas to me and I could see the anger build in his eyes.
"What the hell Brooke" Julian ignores Lucas and looks to me "what are you doing?"
"I can do what or who I like Julian we aren't together anymore" Julian looked to Lucas and his face scowled.
"Come Brooke let's go for a walk on the beach" Lucas takes my hand in his and pulls me with him "sorry about that I saw the look on your face and I reacted"
We stop and I sit down on the sand taking my shoes off and placing them beside me "its okay" I reply seeing him sit down next to me "thank you"
"So what's the story behind you and that guy?" he asked after we stayed in silence for a few minutes.
I look behind us and see Julian looking back at me. He shakes his head and then grabs Chelsea who was talking to her friend and they walk off to god knows where.
"He was my boyfriend" I simply say "he dumped me to live the best summer of his life before senior year"
"Bad breakup?"
"I guess you could say that, but I told him I'm going to move on and that's when he got mad"
"He broke up with you right?" I nod "then he doesn't really have the right to get mad at you for moving on" I knew that of course I did, but Julian had this hold on me. Don't get me wrong I'm moving on like I've said I'll do, but it's going to be hard. Senior year starts in two weeks so I'll be seeing Julian everyday. I'm head cheerleader and his head of the soccer team.
"So anyway that's enough about me, tell me about you. Why'd you move from Charlotte?"
"My ma wanted a new start" he says looking out into the ocean "I didn't want to move, but I also didn't want to leave my ma, so here I am"
We stayed silent for a few minutes looking out to the ocean. The music was playing in the back ground and you could hear screams and laughter coming from the soon to be seniors.
"Tree Hill isn't all that bad" I say breaking the silence "it's small sure, but you'll get used to it soon.
He nods and gives me a small smile "Brooke there you are, we've been looking everywhere for you" I turn my head and see my three best friends walking towards us.
"Maddie said you and Julian were arguing" Peyton says as they stopped.
I stand to my feet and turn to my friends dusting the sand off of me "yeah we did have words" I nod "but I'm good now"
"Yeah I can see that" Rachel smile referring to Lucas who was looking up at me and between my friends "the guy from the other day" she nods to him.
Lucas then stood up and grabbed my shoes for me from the sand "here Brooke" he hands them to me and our eyes locked for a split second as his hand grazed mine "I should go" he says walking pass Haley and Peyton.
"Wait Lucas" I call out seeing him stop. I run up to him "thank you again. I'll see you around?"
He gives me a bigger smile this time "no problem anytime" and then he goes to walk away but turns to me again "and yes I'll be seeing you around" my cheeks flushed and then he walks back into the crowd and he was gone.
"Oh my god what was that" Rachel squeals bouncing over to me.
"That was nothing" I shrug it off because it was nothing right? I mean he just helped me get out of a situation with Julian. He was just being a nice guy.
"Oh yeah because the chemistry was not there" Haley rolled her eyes "you two were totally something"
It was my turn to roll my eyes "oh please girls" I bend down slipping my shoes back on "honestly it was nothing. He just helped me get away from Julian"
"He did?" I nodded "what did Julian do this time?"
So I explained to them the whole thing that happened with Julian and to how Lucas came in and helped me.
"What a jerk" Haley growled "seriously I'm going to get Nathan to hurt him"
"No Hales don't" I shake my head "I don't want Julian to get Nathan in trouble, but thank you" she have me a small nod and then hugged me "I've told you the story can we please go get a drink"
"YES WE CAN!" Rachel yelled making us laugh. She took my hand twirled me around and then all four of us headed back into the crowd.
