A month has passed and it was the cheer final. It was at the school gym. I was super nervous. I mean yes we have won every year since I became captain, but that doesn't make me any less nervous. Any team can win these competitions like any other. The past couple weeks the girls and I have been practicing so we knew the routines well. I wanted to win against the bears.
I painted the blue R to my cheek adding a little glitter. I tided my hair up in a pony tail adding a blue ribbon. I slide into my cheer skirt and put my white tennis shoes on. I sprayed a little vanilla scent on myself and I was ready. I took a deep breath looking in my mirror once more before grabbing my pompoms and heading out of my room.
I told the girls to meet at the changing rooms so I could give my little speech before the competition started.
"You ready for this?" Rachel asked once I reached the bottom of the stairs.
"I'm nervous" I admit "but yes I'm ready to kick some bears ass" Rachel smiled "let's go"
The girls and I rode to school together. The car park was filled with so many cars and then I saw the bears but parked up empty. I parked in my usual spot and we all got out.
"Brooke" I turn around and see Lily run up to us "I'm super excited to kick some ass" she hugged me.
I haven't really seen Lily much since she was mostly with Joshua now that they were serious dating. It was pretty cute actually. She reminded myself of me when I first fell in love.
"So are we" Peyton agreed "so let's go on and show them what we got"
I locked my car and then we headed into the school building. I met the rest of the girls in the locker room.
"Right girls I'm not going to give some long ass speech that will bore us all, but I am going to say. We've got this like many times before. We've beat the bears before we can definitely do it again. Just go out there have fun and kick some ass" the girls cheered making me laugh "now on three we shout ravens"
I put my hand in the middle of us and all the girls put their hands on mine "one, two, three"
"RAVENS!" We all shouted.
We headed out to the gym seeing all the seats filed up. Our classmates were up in the stands. I see Lucas and our eyes locked. He mouthed 'I love you so I mouth it back and he smiled.
"Good afternoon ladies and gentleman today is the final of this cheer competition" the announcer speaks "today The Charlotte Bears and going up against The Tree Hill Ravens for the trophy of this year's cheer competition"
"We've got this girls" I whisper and they all nod
"So how this is going to go is that both cheer squads will preform two dances for our judges to judge against. The first dance will have the three moves that were given to each captain by email and then the second dance will be what each squad had come up with" the guy says "so let the competition begin. Can both captains please join me so we can decide who goes first please "
I walk out to the centre of the gym and see Nicki do the same. Our eyes met and I stared her down. The guy stood in the centre of us "I'm going to flip a coin to decide" Nicki and I nod as the guys flips the coin "heads or tails" he turned to Nicki.
"Heads"
The guy lifts his hand "heads it is. The bears are going first"
Nicki smirked and stepped towards me "good luck Brooke"
I let out a little laugh "oh please Nicki. You're the one that is going to need the luck" I go to walk away then turn back to her "oh and congrats on the baby by the way. Do be careful out there" and then I walk back over to my squad.
We watched as The Bears did there first routine. It was good I must admit, but I knew ours was better. It always was. How do you think we've one all those times before? Once they had finished everyone clapped and they went back over to were they were standing before.
"That was really good" the guy on my mic says "and now for our reigning winners The Ravens" everyone cheered as we ran out to the centre of the gym. We got in our places and I nod to the guy to playour music.
We did our routine and I was super happy that Haley and Lily were able to do both back flips, cartwheel and a forward flip perfectly. Those were the three moves we got emailed.
"And as always that was awesome" the guy says everyone cheering again.
The girls and I ran back to our spot "that was amazing girls. I'm so proud of you all"
"Okay we are going to go for a short break so the judges can discuss the first routine. Be back in 15" everyone dispersed from the bleachers.
"Okay girls go get a drink or talk to whomever, but be back in 10" the girls nodded and we parted ways.
I stood outside in the cold air letting my body cool down. I leaned against the wall behind me looking up at the sky. It was mad that in a few more months we will graduate. I heard the double doors open and shut, but I don't move.
"This wasn't meant to go like this" I let out a loud sigh and roll my eyes at her voice "we were just meant to make you jealous. I didn't even know Lucas moved here until Julian contacted me. It wasn't meant to go this far"
"I'm not doing this with you Nicki. I came out here for silence" I push myself off the wall "I'm going back inside"
"He doesn't want me or the baby" she blurts out
"That's between the two of you Nicki. I'm not involved in this thing you started with Julian" I reply "you both are going to have to figure it out"
"He never looked at me like he looks at you. Not once" she says "I was meant to be the love of his life, his soul mate. I was meant to be the one he loved" and now she was talking about Lucas.
"I don't know what you want me to say Nicki. Like I told Julian I'm done with the drama and the fighting and the mess that this has created the past few months. I'm done with it all. I just want to go in there win that trophy and graduate high school. I'm tired with everything else" I then walk pass her and head back into the building not waiting for her reply.
Both squads did their last routine and again my girls were awesome. I was truly going to miss my squad when we all graduate and go our separate ways.
"Okay so that was it. The last performances that our lovely judges are going to judge. This will take 10 minutes max. So we will be back shortly with the winners" the guy announces.
The girls talked amongst themselves and I waited patiently for the judges to decide on a winner. I was nervous, but excited. This was my last competition at Tree Hill so I really wanted to win. I had no doubt, but no one knows what can happen.
"Okay ladies and gentleman the judges have decided to the winners of 2021 cheer competition" the girls and I stood next to each other hand in hand eyes closed. My heart hammered against my chest and I was super nervous now "okay so the 2021 winners are..." the guy stopped and opened the envelope he was given a smile appeared on his lips "I had no doubt at all" he says and I swear my heart stopped just for a few seconds "Congratulations to The Tree Hill Ravens"
The girls all jumped cheering so loud, but I was stood still I some what shock and then bodies crashed into me bringing me back to reality and I started to cheer as well.
The guy brought us over the trophy and handed it to me "Well done Ravens" we all cheered again with the crowd. It was an amazing feeling knowing we won for the last time at Tree Hill High.
"Now we have one last trophy to go to best dance routine" the guys says "and of course after a hard decision Brooke Davis is our winner" I jumped in the air and ran out to the centre of the gym to get my trophy. I looked eyes with Nicki knowing she was not happy about this, but I didn't care. I was so happy right now "well that is it for the 2021 cheer competition. Thank you all for coming and safe journey home" and then everyone started leaving.
"Oh my god Brooke. I knew you girls would do it" Lucas says bringing me into a hug.
"Can you take a pic of us please Luke" I pass him my phone "come on girls" the squad and I all got together with me and Rachel holding the trophy and Lucas took our picture a memory I will forever cherish.
