Following the Footsteps of Destiny

Chapter 305: Tendrils of Darkness

Takara 'Kara' Kamiya

Cyber, Western Hemisphere, Digital World

Takara Kamiya was having a hard time seeing in the dim light, and squinting through the pale green glow as they flew towards what looked like a narrow passageway up ahead, she said quietly, "Where are you taking me?"

In response to her question, Spritemon let out a loud snort and scoffed, "I thought I made that pretty clear already. I'm taking you to your precious leader. What's the matter? I thought you'd be ecstatic."

How can I be excited when I know you want to use him to hurt me?

It was only too clear she was being toyed with, and clinging to the sprite digimon's neck, she closed her eyes to avoid having to look at the ground below. It was making her dizzy, and right now she needed to keep her whits about her. "Taking me away from my family and friends isn't going to accomplish anything, and neither will separating me from my partner."

"On the contrary," Spritemon countered, keeping a tight grip on her waist. "You can't tell me that being separated from them isn't having an effect on your psyche, which is exactly what I want."

"Hoping I'll succumb to the darkness in my heart?"

"Isn't that happening already?" Spritemon mocked, her dark eyes glittering with anticipation.

Takara winced, and quickly snapping her mouth shut she proceeded to brood in silence. As much as she wanted to block out Spritemon's terrible words, she couldn't deny the truth. There was darkness in her heart, and while she might not deserve the Spirit Chip that was waiting for her in the central chamber, she was wise enough to know that she was starting to succumb to her own insecurities.

I can't give up, though. Mom, Dad, and Dovemon are counting on me, and so are Dai and the others. It's like Dad said. I have to master my own fear...

With that thought in mind, Takara quickly opened her eyes, and glancing at Spritemon, she said firmly, "What's this blockade you were talking about? What are you planning to do to the others?"

Spritemon slowly began to descend towards the ground, and landing carefully so as not to lose her balance, the female mega said shortly, "That's none of your concern. Why don't you focus on the Motomiya boy, or have you lost interest in him?"

Takara blushed at that, and ducking her head, she mumbled, "Of course not."

"Really...Well, don't be surprised if he doesn't feel the same way," Spritemon shot back, her whimsical features twisting into a nasty smile. "Not that I blame him."

Huh? I don't understand. Why would she say such a thing...

Takara ignored the sudden stab of pain in her chest, and waiting patiently as Spritemon quickly set her on her feet, she said hesitantly, "What do you mean by that?"

"This way," Spritemon ordered, motioning for her to follow. "We've got a little ways to go. Make sure you keep up. If you don't, I won't hesitate to use force. And if you try to escape, I'll make you regret it."

Takara had no intentions of running away, and keeping pace with the little pixie digimon as they entered the dark, narrow corridor, she said urgently, "You didn't answer me. Why would you say that to me?"

Spritemon was silent for a moment, and then glancing at her with obvious disgust, the female mega said coldly, "Look at you. You're stupid and weak. You lack the drive and motivation to accomplish anything, and that makes you worthless."

That's not true! I'm not weak...am I?

All of a sudden, Takara felt incredibly confused, and keeping her gaze focused on the path up ahead, she said quietly, "Even if that were true, what does that have to do with Dai?"

"Don't tell me you haven't noticed," Spritemon replied, a sharp laugh escaping her mouth. "Think about it, you fool. The Motomiya boy has plenty of courage and motivation to spare. It's enough to make me want to tear my own wings out, but you, you're the opposite. He is everything that you are not, and considering the type of people he surrounds himself with, that doesn't exactly bode well for you."

People he...surrounds himself with?

Despite their close proximity and the fact that Spritemon clearly disliked her, she didn't feel afraid for her own safety. Instead, her heart was pounding for a different reason, and attempting to remain calm, she said slowly, "I don't get what you're saying."

"You really are an idiot," Spritemon groaned, rolling her eyes. "Let me spell it out for you. The Motomiya boy has a thing for people with strong personalities. He likes humans who are bold and brave. He respects and admires those who challenge him, which is something you've probably never even thought about doing before. Who are his closest friends? Last I checked, he seems to resonate with the Ishida boy and the mouthy Takaishi twin. They have the type of personality he's drawn to. He has no use for a feeble minded girl like you."

Takara flinched at the terrible insults directed at her, and shocked by the female mega's words, at first she was unable to respond. It was true that Dai admired those who were brave in the face of danger, but that didn't mean the goggle-headed leader wasn't able to connect with other personality types. Surely he was able to appreciate the type of quiet strength that someone like Mickey possessed?

Of course he does. He's always had a huge amount of respect for Mickey even though they share a lot of differences. The same is true for Sam. She's just trying to make me second guess myself...

Then again, maybe there was some truth to the little pixie's terrible words. Even if she hadn't necessarily seen Dai show an unusual amount of interest in one of the other girls at school, that didn't mean it couldn't happen. If one did happen to come along who was bold, smart, brave, and beautiful all in one package, maybe Dai would forget about her.

Especially because I'm none of those things...

It was a painful thought, and attempting to banish the image of Dai with another girl from her mind, she said in a trembling voice, "You're wrong. Dai cares about all of us equally. Just because he might be drawn to a certain type of personality on the surface, that doesn't mean he can't appreciate other great qualities in those who are different from him."

"You mean like the wimpy Takaishi twin?" Spritemon snorted, giving her a rough push. "Don't make me laugh. If the Motomoiya boy had to choose between them, he would pick the mouthy twin every time."

Stumbling a bit, Takara felt a spark of anger in her chest, and flushing, she cried, "That's not true! Dai loves Mickey. He would never be able to choose between them. To even suggest such a thing is ludicrous. If he ever heard you say that, you would regret it."

"Oh, I'm so scared," Spritemon mocked, motioning for her to keep moving. "Hurry up, would you? We don't have all day here. And besides, you should worry more about yourself than the Takaishi twins."

Takara let out a soft grunt as the little pixie prodded her sharply between the shoulder blades, and stumbling along, she lapsed into miserable silence. Dai certainly did spend a lot of time with Matty and Ryoko. Perhaps he enjoyed that type of company the most after all.

I'm not nearly as bold and brave as they are. Next to them, I really do look weak and pathetic...

Thinking about her friends also made her think of her parents, and while that should have brought her some comfort, it only made her feel even worse. They were counting on her to rise above her fears, but at the moment her confidence was slowly disintegrating into dust.

They're going to think I'm a failure...

Takara blinked, and glancing down at her feet, she frowned in confusion. For a moment she thought she had caught sight of something moving near her toes, but upon closer inspection she wasn't able to detect anything about her surroundings that seemed out of the ordinary.

Strange...Has it gotten darker in here?

It was hard to tell since the lighting was dim to begin with, but for some reason she felt like there was something obscuring her vision. It wasn't noticeably affecting her eyesight, but even so she felt oddly unsettled.

I don't have enough courage to tell Dai I love him. He's going to move on without me. My parents and my digimon partner are worried, but I can't express my feelings to them. My friends are struggling, and I'm unable to help them. I'm useless. If any of them die here today, it'll probably be my fault. I'm not special like Dai and the others. There's nothing about me that stands out. I'll never meet anybody's expectations...

"So you're finally starting to succumb," Spritemon said slowly, stopping to study her with blatant curiosity. "Took you long enough."

Takara was finding it difficult to focus, and losing herself in her own troubled thoughts, she said dully, "Huh? Succumbing to what?"

"Look down, you fool."

Takara glanced once more at her feet, and jumping in surprise, she realised what the pixie digimon was talking about. All around her feet there were strange black tendrils of smoke rising up from the damp floor, and as she watched in numb silence, they began to curl slowly around her ankles.

Why am I not...afraid?

"What? Nothing to say?" Spritemon goaded, watching her closely.

Takara merely shook her head, and taking a tentative step forward, she murmured, "I thought you were taking me to Dai."

Spritemon quickly grabbed her arm, and pulling her along, the pixie digimon grumbled, "Don't get the wrong idea. I'm not taking you to him because I want to witness a vomit inducing sappy reunion between the two of you. I'm doing this for my benefit, not yours."

"This is all because you want to get back at me."

"Obviously," Spritemon snapped, tugging her roughly along the edge of a narrow channel that was flowing out to other areas of the waterway. "Nothing like stating the obvious. I swear you're dumber than dumb. Lucky for me, you don't appear to have much time left. Didn't I tell you to hurry? I want as much time with you as possible before those annoying friends of yours get past my blockade. I did tell DarkAngelicmon to hold them off as long as possible, but I don't trust him not to screw this up."

I see now. DarkAngelicmon and Encantamon must have gone after the rest of the group, but why? What is Spritemon trying to accomplish by keeping them separated from me?

Her muddled mind was having a hard time coming up with an answer, and though the dark tendrils hovering around her ankles were starting to crawl up her legs, she ignored them. It didn't really matter, after all. Earlier, she might have been frightened, but now she wasn't too concerned about her own safety. It didn't matter what happened to her if she couldn't protect the others.

I was so afraid that a day would come when I wouldn't be able to protect my family and friends, including Dai. Maybe that day has finally come...

For some reason Spritemon seemed quite pleased with herself, but despite the pixie digimon's triumphant smile, Takara chose to remain silent. As they continued on, she could feel herself growing more and more exhausted, but Spritemon refused to slow down. At this point they had passed through so many chambers, both small and large, that Takara had no idea where they were anymore, and as they entered another narrow corridor, she wondered what time it was. A quick look at her Digivice indicated it was after noon, and though the numbers on the screen were glowing brightly in the dim light, she was having a hard time seeing them. The dark haze in her eyes was getting worse, and though a part of her knew that was a very bad sign, she was having a hard time bringing herself to care.

I bet they've already forgotten about me. Matty was so afraid of losing Dai, but he wasn't the one who needed to be afraid...

"We're almost there," Spritemon announced, her dark eyes lighting up with anticipation. "I wonder what your precious leader is going to think of you now."

Look at me. I was right all along. I haven't even been able to save myself. There's no way I can save Dai and the others...

"Not much, I suspect," Spritemon continued, pulling her along by the arm. "If he didn't love you then, he definitely isn't going to love you now. I must say, this is turning out even better than I expected. I've got you right where I want you, and this time I'm going to make sure you pay for thinking you could ever defeat me."

Takara didn't even have the strength to reply, and glancing down, she could see the tendrils of darkness crawling past her knees and up towards her thighs. Earlier, they had looked like wispy shadows made of smoke, but now they were thick and dense. In the back of her mind, she was sure she remembered hearing a story about something similar happening to someone else, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't seem to recall who that might have been.

Mom, Dad, Dovemon, I'm scared. I need you...

Unfortunately, there was no one around to hear her silent pleas for help, and as they entered a massive chamber glowing with green light, she quickly averted her eyes from the harsh glare. In her hand, the light from her Digivice was reacting strongly to something in the room, but before she could figure out what that something was, Spritemon called out, "I've brought you a gift, oh great Digidestined leader. There's just one tiny problem. I think I might have broken it. What a shame."

"Kara?" a male voice whispered, the name ending in a horrified gasp.

Takara slowly looked up, and through the veil of darkness covering her eyes, she caught a glimpse of the shocked expression on Daichi Motomiya's face before she collapsed in front of the strange blue sphere that was holding him captive. Somewhere deep inside her tormented thoughts, she could hear the goggle-headed leader shouting her name over and over, but her body refused to cooperate. The darkness in her mind was so much more attractive than his voice, and so was the solitude of the isolated cave where she suddenly found herself sitting all alone. Where had it come from? She didn't know, nor did she care. Here, at least, she could be at peace.

It's so comforting. So free of pain and fear...

It was a lovely thought, and as the light of her D-Coder began to fade, so did the terrified face of the one she loved...

Sora Kamiya

Cyber, Western Hemisphere, Digital World

It took some time to remove all the pipes blocking their path, and as the last few were finally shifted aside, Stingmon said, "Sorry about the wait. Are we ready to continue on?"

"Ready as we'll ever be," Alopemon snorted, leaping onto the insect digimon's shoulder and crossing his arms over his chest. "Anybody remember which way we were going before we were so rudely interrupted?"

Sora let out a soft sigh, and getting slowly to her feet, she turned to Izzy and said, "I'm assuming we're still aiming to head north?"

"That's right," Izzy agreed. "North first and then we'll be moving east. I have a pretty good idea of where we're going, but a little assistance would be appreciated."

"You need my D-Coder, is that it?" Sam asked, his sapphire eyes lingering on Matty for a moment before he moved to put some distance between them.

Izzy nodded, and sounding as if he regretted having to bring it up, the computer expert said, "I hate to ask, but without Kara..."

"I know. Don't worry, I don't mind. If it helps us find Kara and Dai, I'll gladly stick near the front."

Kara...My beautiful baby girl. Please stay strong for me...

Izzy beamed at the raven-haired Digidestined, and tucking his laptop under his arm, he said, "Well, now that that's settled, we should be on our way, especially if DarkAngelicmon intends to hold us up. We can't afford to waste too much time here."

"The sooner I can stand by Kara's side again, the better," Dovemon said firmly, her large eyes sparkling with determination.

Sora couldn't have agreed more, and crossing the floor to stand in front of her husband, she held out her hand and said gently, "Ready to go?"

Though Tai looked weary and years older than she remembered, he somehow managed to smile, and accepting her hand, the former leader said in a tired voice, "I hope Tay's holding up okay."

"I'm sure he's fine," Biyomon insisted, giving the dark-haired man's knee a reassuring pat. "Davis and the others are looking after him. Plus, he believes in you guys. We will rescue Kara and Dai, no matter what."

"Exactly," Agumon butted in. "We can't disappoint Tay, now can we. If we did, I'm sure Dai would have a few things to say about that."

"And so would Embermon," Dovemon joked, exchanging a meaningful look with the small dinosaur digimon.

Sora couldn't help smiling in response, and appreciating their efforts to reassure Tai, she said softly, "I'm sure they would. Come on, you three. Stay close, alright?"

"Of course!" Biyomon answered, immediately joining her with Agumon and Dovemon in tow.

Walking hand in hand with her husband, Sora turned her attention to the group at the front, and as they navigated their way through the maze of pipes, Mickey said quietly, "We really messed up, didn't we."

"What makes you say that?" Sam asked gently, his sapphire eyes studying the older twin with interest.

The two boys were walking with Izzy, Centarumon, Matty, Angelicmon, Glowmon, and Gabrielmon, and ducking his head, Mickey said slowly, "We promised each other we would keep an eye on Kara, but now look where we are."

"Well, we also planned to stop Dai from being dumb and just admit how he feels about Kara, but obviously that's not happening now either," Matty pointed out, making a face. "This whole thing has turned into a complete disaster."

"Dai's just going to have to make that decision for himself," Sam said seriously, his intense gaze shifting between the two brothers. "I, for one, hope he does. At this point, it might be our only way to save Kara."

She's still so young, but she's not fickle or flighty. She's always been mature for her age, and I believe her when she says she loves him. And while Dai might not be fully aware of his feelings yet, I don't doubt for a minute that he loves my daughter. It might not seem like it on the outside, but he's more mature than he appears to be. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does, and his love for Kara is no exception.

Though everyone was aware of the situation between Dai and Kara, it wasn't something they had openly talked about in such a large group before. As a result, she couldn't help wondering what was going through her husband's mind at the moment, and glancing at the man in question, she said slowly, "What do you think?"

"Not going to get all overprotective on us, are you?" Matt teased, poking the former leader in the back.

"Give me a break," Tai groaned, rolling his eyes. "I've never felt the need to act like that towards Dai. I trust them both, and nothing will ever change that."

Tai...you really are the most amazing husband and father.

Sora gave the former leader's hand a quick squeeze, and smiling at Tai, Sam said dryly, "You're making Matty look bad."

"Hey! I take offence to that," Matty grumbled, giving the raven-haired Digidestined a friendly shove.

Ryoko, who was walking at the back of the group with Ken, his father, and their digimon, muttered something under his breath that made the former Emperor raise his eyebrows, and looking very amused over whatever it was his son had said, Matt joked, "Does that make me your favourite uncle still?"

"I think I'm the one who should be offended," Tai laughed, a hint of his old self showing through the cloud of uncertainty hanging over his shoulders.

Dovemon, who was fluttering next to the former leader, looked thoughtful, and frowning, she said hesitantly, "I know better than anyone just how much Kara loves Dai, and that combined with all of her other insecurities is what's holding her back. I wish she would realise how brave, strong, wise, mature, and beautiful she is."

"Well, that's what we're here for," Ryoko said bluntly, his sapphire eyes flashing with determination. "And we all know Dai feels the same way. In fact, he's probably so eager to save her..."

"She may end up saving him," Ken finished, a ghost of a smile slipping across his face. "Regardless, I have no doubt they'll look after each other until we can reach them."

"If they're able to," Mickey mumbled, his amber gaze drifting towards the dark tunnel up ahead.

Something about that statement seemed rather ominous, and as a tense silence fell over the group, Sora began to lose herself in her own troubled thoughts. As much as she didn't want to acknowledge it, there was some truth to Mickey's cryptic statement. If for some reason Dai and Kara weren't able to keep each other safe, what then? What if they didn't make it in time?

Don't think like that! You know better than to allow your fears to affect your confidence. I won't make the same mistakes I made as a child. Kara and Dai will survive this. Somehow they'll find a way to hang on until we get there. We just have to take it one step at a time...

"We'll make it before anything terrible happens," Dovemon said firmly, swooping suddenly into her arms. "I refuse to accept anything else."

It was almost as if the little rookie had read her mind, and hugging the bird digimon close to her heart, she whispered, "You're right. We will. No matter what, they'll make it home safely. We all will."

Even though the light of Kara's Spirit Chip is evident all around us, the waterway still seems so dark. It reminds me of that terrible cave I ended up in when I wasn't able to believe in myself...

It took what seemed like forever to navigate the maze of pipes, and just when she thought the path would go on forever, Izzy suddenly came to a stop and said, "This is the exit. From here on out it should be pretty straight forward."

"How can you tell?" Matty snorted, squinting at the dark tunnel up ahead. "It all looks the same to me."

Sam quickly held out his Digivice, and as the purple light illuminating from its small screen streamed into the narrow passage, the raven-haired Digidestined said, "I'm assuming beyond this point the rooms look more like the ones we were traveling through yesterday?"

"That's right," Tentomon announced, peering over his partner's shoulder as Izzy held the laptop open in his hands. "We're moving back towards the main channel and deeper into the waterway."

"I'm just glad we're out of that pipe maze," Gabumon informed them, sounding relieved. "I'm not a big fan of small spaces."

Sora secretly agreed with the little rookie, and moving into the narrow tunnel, she proceeded to study her surroundings with interest. Like many of the other rooms in the waterway, the granite walls were lined with glowing beams of green light, and because the passageway was so narrow, it felt a bit disorienting. Everywhere she turned, the light reminded her of Kara, and doing her best to ignore the sudden ache in her heart, she murmured, "I wish we had some more natural light."

Please don't let my daughter end up like I did...

In response to her words, Glowmon said, "I can help with that!"

"You may want to wait until we exit the tunnel," Centarumon warned, glancing at the little rookie. "Particularly now that we're using Sam's D-Coder."

"True," Sam agreed, his handsome face reflecting in the violet light. "It was one thing with just you and all this green light. Three different colours might be a bit much in smaller spaces."

"Speaking of Digivices, it looks like Spritemon and Kara are heading steadily towards Dai," Matt informed them, holding up his own Digivice for reference. "We'd better pick up the pace a little."

Knowing they still had a ways to go, Sora couldn't help feeling a little anxious, and letting go of Dovemon so the little bird digimon could fly beside her, she proceeded to walk silently between Tai and Biyomon. As they moved deeper and deeper into the waterway, their journey taking them through a series of tunnels and chambers both small and vast, she felt like she was losing track of time. As much as she didn't want to think about it, the clock was ticking, and the longer it took them to reach the Spirit Chip, the more time Spritemon had to torture her daughter.

And what about YukiOnnamon? Whoever she is, she must be waiting for us at the Spirit Chip...

"What is it, Gabrielmon?" Mickey suddenly asked, his voice echoing strangely in the massive chamber they had just entered from the west side of the waterway. "Do you sense something?"

As far as Sora could tell, they were now heading east, and summoning his golden sceptre, the celestial champion said slowly, "I can sense DarkAngelicmon very clearly now. He's almost on top of us."

"This must be the little gift Spritemon prepared for us," Angelicmon murmured, following his fellow angel's example and summoning his spear. "I hope you're all ready for a fight."

"At least this room is big enough for all of us to digivolve in," Agumon pointed out, his eyes narrowing in concentration. "You ready, Gabumon?"

"I am if you are," the furry digimon replied, looking equally determined.

We don't have time for this. Kara needs us...

Sora quickly let go of her husband's hand, and nudging the former leader's side, Matt said, "You heard them. Let's get this over with so we can help Kara."

"Right," Tai agreed, standing up a little straighter. "Agumon, Gabumon, digivolve now!"

"That goes for the rest of you, too," Ryoko commanded, holding out his D-Coder. "Let's finish this quick!"

Sora stepped back as all of their digimon proceeded to digivolve to their highest levels, and scooping Dovemon into her arms, she whispered, "You stay with me. You'll want to conserve your strength for Kara."

"I know, but I still don't like leaving the others to fight without me," the little bird digimon lamented, though she didn't attempt to escape.

A huge canal ran straight through the centre of the vast chamber, and now that they were moving closer to the Spirit Chip, the emerald mist floating off the running water was plainly obvious in the eerie glow of the green light shining off the distant granite walls. The ceiling was so high she could barely see it, and huddling in a group with the rest of the Digidestined, Dovemon curled up in her arms, she said, "Is he planning to ambush us?"

"I doubt it," Ken replied, his arm going around Mickey's trembling shoulders. "There's no point. Why bother when Angelicmon and Gabrielmon already know where he is."

On Mickey's other side, Sam was gazing at the older twin with obvious concern, and glancing towards the opposite end of the chamber, the raven-haired teen said sharply, "Then what's taking him so long? Why isn't he showing himself?"

"There he is now," JewelBeemon called out, pointing his javalin at a dark figure who was slowly approaching from the east. "And by the looks of it he isn't alone."

"Encantamon," IceTirimon growled, his fur standing on end.

Sora remained quiet as she watched the two digimon moving towards them at a steady pace, and glancing up at Garudamon, she said firmly, "Let's not make this a repeat of yesterday."

"That won't be the case," Garudamon promised, shifting into a battle stance. "Kara's counting us. We can't afford to lose here."

"Stay focused, everyone," Odonatamon said calmly, brandishing his golden spear. "Do not fear, Dovemon. We shall fight with everything we have in your place."

"Thank you," Dovemon replied, beaming at the dragonfly digimon.

"Well now, what do we have here?" Encantamon called out, stopping just in front of Omnimon. "We just came for a little visit and you've already got your backs up?"

Pushing to the front of the group, Ryoko glared at the serpent digimon and said angrily, "The last thing you're here for is a friendly chat. As you already know, we don't have time for your nonsense."

"You certainly do have a blunt way of speaking," DarkAngelicmon said smoothly, his lips twitching into a smile. "I must admit, I find it rather refreshing."

Ryoko's response was to turn his nose up at the fallen angel, and putting a hand on his irate cousin's shoulder, Mickey said quietly, "Didn't you promise Dai you would look after Kara? If you're here now, it means you're in the wrong place, or was that just a lie?"

"We have been through this before. I have never lied to you," DarkAngelicmon replied, his emerald gaze searching the older twin's pale face with careful scrutiny. "I promised I would do so as much as I was able to. I cannot directly disobey YukiOnnamon, and she is the one who orchestrated all of this, much to Spritemon's delight."

"You also told us you would watch over Dai," Matty scolded, shaking a finger at the fallen angel. "How can you do that when you're standing here harassing us!"

"Again, I cannot disobey YukiOnnamon directly, and her orders were to send me here. Dai was fine when we left, but you had best defeat us as quickly as possible if you want to ensure that remains the case."

This time it was Sam who stepped forward, and directing his words at Encantamon, he said calmly, "And you're okay with all of this? You heard him. Sounds like he's giving us an opening, which doesn't sound like following orders to me."

It's true. This entire conversation suggests DarkAngelicmon isn't going to go out of his way to do what he was told to do, but Encantamon doesn't seem to care. She's definitely not doing anything to stop him, nor is she threatening to report his lack of protocol to YukiOnnamon...

Did that mean she didn't necessarily agree with YukiOnnamon's plans?

It was hard to tell, since the serpent digimon's expression was fairly pleasant, and holding Dovemon protectively against her chest, Sora said slowly, "You're not saying much."

"Who, me?" Encantamon asked, shrugging her shoulders. "I can't say I'm too concerned about the end result. Like I said, I'm just here to have some fun."

So she's not going out of her way to challenge YukiOnnamon, but that doesn't mean she's on our side either. She's mostly here for amusement, and DarkAngelicmon knows that.

Which was the very reason why the fallen angel wasn't concerned about Encantamon overhearing his plans to help them in a roundabout way.

Sounds to me like she's already proven to him that she has no interest in exposing his true motives to YukiOnnamon and Spritemon. I guess that's something...

"If you're going to fight us, we might as well get this over with," Mickey said softly, his amber eyes sparkling in the light of Sam's purple D-Coder.

DarkAngelicmon quickly summoned his spear, and nodding his head, the fallen angel said lightly, "Indeed, and we'd best make this convincing if we want to fool YukiOnnamon."

"I hope you don't mind a few burns then," Angelicmon said dryly, twirling his own spear for dramatic effect. "A little light will do you some good."

DarkAngelicmon's response was to rise into the air, and brandishing his weapon, he said boldly, "Come at me then. Show me your resolve to save the children of bravery and wisdom!"
