AN: Time for this battle to start! I hope you're all enjoying the story so far.

When I write battles and stuff, sometimes I feel like they get too linear or too long, both leading to them being boring. If you decide to, I'd love some feedback on this one and advice on how I can improve in the future...if you find that it's necessary and I'm not suffering the common case of unrequired self-doubt.

One last thing before we begin: starting with this chapter, I will be leaving a short summary of the characters and their Pokemon, because I've seen plenty of cases where it becomes hard to keep track of them all.

Now, without further ado, let us begin! (-o-)

The black-haired boy did a little flourish as he drew out a Pokeball, declaring, "The name's Rex, and I will astonish you with my moves! Of course, I already know you, Victor, so I'll just get this battle started with Snivy!"

Victor replied, "Go get them, Wick!"

He sent out a floating black lamp with a purple flame burning away inside it, but then both trainer and Pokemon stated in surprise at the opponent.

It was a large green-and-black fish with a white stripe across it, hovering in a bubble of water. It was quite clearly not a Snivy.

Rex laughed, "What, did you just expect me to tell you what Pokemon I was using and let you win? Bianca, call down some rain!"

The Basculin wiggled around, summoning a rainstorm that darkened the battlefield.

Victor shouted, "Wick, we're prepared for this! Use Energy Ball!"

The Lampent summoned an orb of green energy, and fired it at the fish. Rex smirked, and suddenly a hidden bomb on the battlefield exploded and filled the area with smoke, obscuring Bianca and causing the orb to miss.

"What!?", exclaimed Victor.

"With as impressive as your reputation is, I'm astonished that you're surprised at some child's tricks.", stated Rex, "Also, look behind you."

Victor looked behind him nervously, causing him to miss the Hydro Pump that emerged from the smoke and blasted his Lampent right into him.

"Wick!", he cried.

"Oho, you're quite bad at this.", replied Rex, "Your first Pokemon is already down. Care to withdraw?"

Victor shot a glare at him. "You may have taken me by surprise, but you'll find that I won't go down so easily!"

"Yeah!", shouted Wick.

And much to Rex's astonishment, the Lampent floated back into the air and glared furiously into the smoke.

Ray felt a strange wave of energy emanate from Victor. Wait a minute...

"We're going to have to go for a new strategy!", declared Victor, "Use Minimize, he won't be able to find you so easily!"

Wick shrank herself down, then flew into the fog and vanished from sight.

Rex said, "We have to track her down, and quickly! Hmmm..."

Although it was hard to hear through the thunder and rain, there was the sound of a Pokeball opening.

Victor shouted, "Wick, use a Dark Pulse to try to hit whatever he's using!"

There was a burst of dark energy that scattered the smoke, revealing an Absol just as it pounced onto Wick with a nasty Crunch attack.

Victor flinched, and Ray felt another wave of energy. A quick glance at Victor's ring, and the pieces fell into place.

"That guy is another Legendborn!", he exclaimed.

Victor shouted, "Wick, act now! Energy Ball the Basculin!"

Bianca was unable to dodge, and the super-effective hit struck hard. With a soft wail, she fainted, and Rex returned her to the Pokeball.

He frowned, "Even a super-effective hit shouldn't have knocked her out like that...is this why they say you cheated?"

Victor snarled, "I didn't cheat! It's just, one day my Pokemon were suddenly much more powerful!"

Rex rose an eyebrow, saying, "Really?"

Clara spotted his swift hidden hand gesture, and so did the Absol. With a snarl, she swung down her horn, but Wick saw it in time and dodged around it.

Victor said, "Good job, Wick! Let's keep an eye out for any more tricks he tries to pull!"

"Not particularly necessary, with how much vitamins you must have stuffed your Pokemon with.", grumbled Rex, "I'm not buying the 'they were just suddenly this strong' excuse. But I will whittle those overpowered Pokemon down little by little, and win this!"

Wick replied by trying to hit the Absol with a Confuse Ray.

Rex shouted, "Anastasia, use Double Team!"

Suddenly the battlefield was full of Absols, all of them charging for Wick. Victor called out, "Dark Pulse! Find the real one!"

The Lampent fired off another Dark Pulse, eliminating the clones. But as she prepared to attack the Absol with a Flame Burst, she was struck from behind with a Night Slash, used by a different Absol. With a startled cry, Wick fell over and finally fainted.

"Wick!", Victor cried. Returning her, he said, "So you have two Absols?"

Rex shook his head. "Nope, it's better than that. Diana here is a Ditto!"

Diana grinned. "Hehe, that's right!"

Victor growled, "Grr...I'll avenge you, Wick!"

But before he could send out his next Pokemon, there were a few gunshots, and then running towards them was a somewhat younger trainer, wearing a pink hat, gold pants, and a blue green sweater vest. Running alongside him was a Raichu.

"Hey! I need your help! The town is under attack!", the boy cried.

"Under attack, how?", asked Rex, sounding quite curious.

Suddenly, a large black meteor fell from the sky, smashing a cart of vegetables. An old man with a long goatee cried, "No! My cabbages!"

"Oh, I see.", said Rex.

Ray looked up, and spotted a strange Pokemon flying above. It looked like a Corviknight, but it was surrounded in shadows and its eyes were glowing bright red. As he watched, it readied a darkened version of Flash Cannon and fired it, explaining the meteors.

"I have no idea what is going on, but it needs the help of every trainer around!", the boy said.

Ray frowned. "I know what this is. The Darkness is launching his first attack."

"The...Darkness? Like in those Legendborn stories?", asked the boy.

Ray nodded.

Rex turned and stared at Ray. "Darkness, huh? And how exactly do you know this?"

"I'll explain later.", Ray replied, readying one of his Pokeballs. "Right now, we have to save the day."

At that moment, a teenager dressed in a full suit of body armor charged in, gun in one hand and a Pokeball in the other. He saw the four trainers gathered in front of him and said, "Are you going to fight these guys or what?"

Ray sent out Checkmate. "Correct. I'm going to try to get that bird out of the sky."

The armored kid replied, "Sounds good to me. I'll continue handling the ones on the ground."

As he said that, a wall was toppled over as an armored, shadowy Golem rolled into the scene.

"Wave, go!", shouted Victor, sending out a Palpitoad.

Clara sent out an Armaldo, saying, "Let's go, Cambria!"

Ray hopped onto the back of Checkmate, then noticed Rex had used his Ditto to copy him.

"We'll see who can get that dark Corviknight down first!", Rex challenged.

Then charging into the scene were a shadow Arcanine and a shadow Ivysaur.

The armored kid said, "This is going to be interesting." (-o-)
