! UPDATES every Saturday !
So, my first Attack on Titan story, my lovelies! It's been so long since I have been able to truly sit down and write properly, and this came out. I will apologize ahead of time if I'm a bit rusty, but in all honesty writing this story has been a delight for me. It helped me to a great degree to bounce back from the depression I'd fallen into after my father's death, and I can only be eternally grateful to Isayama for creating this amazing story universe, with fantastic characters. This is just my way of trying to pay homage to his creative genius, writing being the only form of art I'm versed in to any degree.
Also, this story would never have come to true fruition without my friend. He's been incredibly supportive from the very beginning when it was all just an idea in my head. He's not only provided me with all the details and info I was lacking back then (because when I started writing this, I had only watched the anime before I was convinced that I needed to read at least the season 4 parts of the manga to get the full story). But he also helped me immensely with a few dialogues as well as all the fight scenes, because those just are not my strong point in writing. I mostly lean towards the emotional part of characters, getting in their heads and seeing what they think/feel. But I really struggle with battles and violence because I'm very non-confrontational by nature, so without him this story probably would never have seen the light of the Internet.
And aside from that he has been incredibly supportive whenever I got anxious or paranoid about things, he always helped to keep me on track and not let my mind wander to things too far in the future, he always helped me through my insecurities. So I dedicate this story to him, because without him it really would never have been completed and would probably have joined the rest of my unfinished ideas that I probably will never finish. Warren, I know you'll be reading this, so thank you! I know we had our disagreements during the writing process, that we didn't always see eye to eye and we butted heads a few times, but I'll forever be grateful that you stuck with me through thick and thin, with this story. It wouldn't have been possible without you!
So be gentle lovelies, and please keep in mind it's been at least 2 years since I've written a proper story and seen it through to the end, so I may be a bit rusty here and there. On that note, please PLEASE don't be shy to comment. I cannot stress how important feedback is to any writer, and I absolutely adore replying to comments and engaging with my readers. So please, even if you only want to say that you loved/hated a chapter, or if you have something that confused you, or whatever that chapter made you feel... don't be afraid to leave a comment and tell me!
But, I don't want to ramble on too much (even though I just did). My main reason for this note is to explain one thing: the story will start out on two separate (but parallel) threads before eventually merging into the thread that will see it through to the end. On that note, the first couple of uploads will each contain two chapters (one for the "future timeline", another for the "past timeline"), continuing with one-chapter uploads once the threads interlink. I will also provide character ages at the beginning of some chapters, simply due to the first part of the story jumping back and forth between timelines, to avoid confusion. Keep in mind that these are simply my own headcanons when it comes to how old everyone is, due to no official ages ever being stated for people outside the 104th.
Also, below I mentioned a couple tidbits that might not be 100% apparent in the first chapters. Consider them add-ons to the first part of the story, if you will.
First of all, the most important thing is to please keep in mind that this story is an Alternate Universe, so both timelines (future and past) will differ from the canon story to various degrees. Secondly, I have altered the world map for this story. Paradis is now one of several islands which surround a very extensive landmass known only as The Continent (where Marley is located along with all other nations). Below are the tidbits that might not come across from just reading the first few chapters - either because they're too vague or because I haven't directly addressed them - but which are important to complete the overall picture of the story.
855 – Eren acquires eight of the Nine Titans and takes control of the Continent to exterminate the human race
– By this point, most of the Eldians on the Continent have been turned into Titans and used in war
– Handfuls of surviving humans begin to flee to the surrounding islands
– The Resistance is formed on the Continent, composed of opposing Eldians from both the Continent and Paradis Island, and the last of the Ackerman Clan surviving on the mainland
– The Attack Titan is located in Tafort Village, within the fallen Marleyan Empire, under the name Natalie Dietrich
856 – The Resistance flees to Naruel Island to escape the Titan onslaught, taking the Attack Titan's host with them
– The Resistance begins a series of incursions into the Continent, with the end goal of weakening the Titan army, as well as saving any and all survivors
