I'm gonna go ahead and apologize in advance for the next chapter. Get ready...
I OWN NOTHING.
After the ordeal with Sara was over, everyone sat down to eat dinner.
''My love? I'd like to go to town tomorrow and see my dad,'' Rin requested. ''Above all to tell him the news about my pregnancy. He's going to so delighted. You know how badly he wants grand kids.''
''I'd be pleased, Rin,'' Sesshomaru smiled at his wife.
''May I go with you? I left some things behind there last time,'' Sakura said.
''Of course,'' Sesshomaru nodded.
''I'm so glad we're going back into town tomorrow. I have some things I need-'' ''You'll stay here, Tohru. I'll have Miroku keep an eye on you,'' Sesshomaru told him.
Tohru sighed.
''I'll stay here with Tohru,'' Kya voiced.
Tohru didn't say anything but shrugged.
''Daddy!'' Rin squealed as she ran into the house and wrapped her arms around her father.
''What a surprise, I'm so glad to see you, princess,'' Jihayo smiled at his daughter.
''How are you, daddy?'' Rin asked him.
''Right now? Happy,'' Jihayo chuckled.
Rin smiled at him before her stare turned cold when she noticed her mother and immediately remembered her conversation with Sara from yesterday.
''If you think I'll kneel and apologize to you, you're wrong,'' Sara smirked.
Rin sighed. ''What do you want?''
''To tell you to your face how much I hate you. I hate you with all of my being, Rin,'' Sara growled.
Rin rolled her eyes and went to leave but Sara grabbed her arm and pulled her back. ''Let go of me!''
''I'm not done yet. I don't know what you're hiding. But I do know what Sesshomaru has been hiding from you all this time. I found this in your aunt's room,'' Sara took out a folded up picture. ''Tell me, is this your mom? I guess she is. You know what? I know her very well. Actually, everyone in this ranch saw her, more than once. Your mom visited this house very often and for many years. Do you wanna know why?'' Rin nodded and Sara leaned in to whisper into her ear. What she said caused Rin's eyes to widen and feel up with unshed tears.
''No. That can't be,'' Rin shook her head in deniel.
Sara chuckled. ''If you don't believe me, show this picture to Sango or Father Jaken. Ask them. They'll tell you the same thing I did.''
Rin snapped out of her thoughts and faked a smile for her mother. ''And you, mama? Aren't you happy to see us?''
''Of course, my dear,'' Raven gave her a fake, wide smile. ''Why didn't you tell us you were coming?''
''Well..'' Rin shrugged.
''Why did you wait so long since last time you came, Sesshomaru?'' Jihayo asked him.
''Well, you haven't visited us at the ranch,'' Rin pointed out.
''That's your mom's fault. You know she doesn't like the country,'' Jihayo rolled his eyes.
''Is that it or do you have any other reason not to go see me at the ranch, mama?'' Rin and her mother had a stare down for a moment before they were interrupted.
''Oh, come on now, when are you going to give them the good news?'' Sakura questioned with excited impatience.
''What news?'' Jihayo questioned.
''Dad, with all that gray hair, I think it's time someone starts calling you ''grandpa'', don't you think?'' Rin teased him.
Jihayo's eyes widened and a big grin overtook his face. ''No, no! Really? Really? I'm going to be a grandfather?''
Sesshomaru chuckled. ''That's right, sir. Rin and I are expecting a child.''
''This is the best news I have ever received!'' Jihayo exclaimed.
''Won't you congratulate us, mom?'' Rin questioned her.
''Of course, my princess. In fact, let's go upstairs and have some mother/daughter talk,'' Raven suggested and grabbed her daughter's arm. ''Excuse us for just a moment.'' Rin and her mother went up to her parent's room and their smiles and sweet facade immediately ended. ''What's up with you, girl?''
''You don't have anything you'd like to tell me, mom? Like why you refused to set foot on Sesshomaru's since we married?'' Rin questioned.
''I don't have any secrets, Rin,'' Raven lied. ''I'm not like you. Because I know exactly what you are hiding, my darling. You're disgusting. You're shameless. Or will you deny Kohaku Mai was living on your husband's ranch? I bet you slept with one one day and with the other the next. I must say I'm scared to ask who the father of the baby is you're expecting. You're unforgivable, Rin.''
Rin glared at her mother with hatred. ''If I can't be forgiven, I don't know what hell you'll go to then after you cheated on my father with another man for so many years. I do know your secret. I know you were my husband's uncle's lover for many years!''
''Don't say that again,'' Raven snarled. ''Don't disrespect me, you stupid brat! Do you hear the nonsense you're saying, Rin? How could you say something like that?''
''You won't stop. You keep lying and lying,'' Rin scoffed. ''I have a way to prove what I'm saying is true. For starters, I haven't talked with Sesshomaru, but I'm sure that, if I ask him, he'll tell me the truth. I understand now why you never wanted to go see your own daughter at her ranch. You were scared someone would recognize you. Scared I might find out who my mom really is and find out you were cheating on my dad for so long.''
''I won't let you talk to me like that,'' Raven snapped.
''Tell me something. Was that also a part of the deal so I'd marry Sesshomaru?'' Rin questioned. ''That he could never tell me you had slept with that man-'' Rin's mother slapped her.
''Forgive yourself, Rin,'' Raven hissed. ''I don't have to explain myself to you.''
''You have no other choice,'' Rin told her. ''You'll have to because I want to know how long you've been cheating on my dad. How long, mom!?''
''Don't use that tone with me!'' Raven shouted. ''You have no right to ask me anything because, remember, your behavior has never been that of an irreproachable woman! At least, you know what? I'd go far away so my husband wouldn't know I was cheating, but you! So tacky. Go figure. You stooped so low, you had your lover and your husband living under the same roof!''
''I have never cheated on Sesshomaru,'' Rin said.
Raven laughed. ''Let's see who believes that, I know I won't. You better keep quiet. If your father finds out about this, I swear I'll tell Sesshomaru myself that you've been cheating on him all this time, dear. I pray to God you're smart. Let's do what respectable families do and close our mouths and pretend we're a big happy family.''
Rin shook her head. ''You don't have an ounce of decency, mom.''
''Naraku, sir?'' Kageromaru walked into Naraku's office. ''You called for me?''
''I have a very important job for you,'' Naraku told him. ''Tomorrow morning, very early, you are going down to the Takashi ranch for me.''
''Yes, sir but what for exactly?'' Kageromaru asked.
Naraku smirked. ''To give him some information I know he'll want to know.''
Rin sighed as she stepped into her bedroom, Sesshomaru right behind her.
''I heard from Miroku that while we were gone he had your brother cleaning out the stables and Tohru finally got tired of manual labor and immediately begged Kya to marry him in front of everyone,'' Sesshomaru informed her with a chuckle.
Rin smiled. ''Good. He better treat her with respect and care like she deserves.''
''You can relax now, love. Your brother and Sara don't live in this house anymore. We're finally alone, Rin,'' Sesshomaru sighed in content.
''Alone, you and me?'' Rin giggled and wrapped her arms around her husband's neck.
''From now on, we'll only take care of ourselves, of our happiness,'' Sesshomaru promised.
''I love you, Sesshomaru,'' Rin took his face in her hands. ''I love you like I never thought I'd love you. I love you more than I've ever loved anyone.''
Sesshomaru laid Rin down on their bed. ''You're finally all mine, my love.''
''Yours,'' Rin pressed her lips to his and helped him take off her dress.
Early the next morning, Sesshomaru woke up alone.
''Sayo?'' Sesshomaru called out for her when he walked into the living room.
''Yes, sir?'' Sayo questioned.
''Have you seen my wife?'' Sesshomaru asked.
''Yes, she just went out,'' Sayo answered him. ''She said she would go visit Father Jaken.''
''Did she go alone?'' Sesshomaru asked.
''Yes, she took one of the trucks,'' Sayo answered. ''I hope there's no problem with that.''
''No, everything is okay, Sayo, don't worry,'' Sesshomaru assured her.
''Oh, by the way, there is a man here who says he wants to talk to you,'' Sayo informed him.
''Thanks,'' Sesshomaru nodded and went over to the couch to find Kageromaru waiting for him.
''Good morning, Mr. Takashi,'' Kageromaru greeted him.
''Good morning,'' Sesshomaru returned. ''To what do I owe your visit? Don't tell me the police already know something about Shiro Kon?''
''Well, let's say yes and no,'' Kageromaru chuckled lightly. ''Effectively we do know news about Shiro Kon, but we don't know anything about the man who was working here as your foreman.''
''I'm sorry, I don't understand,'' Sesshomaru responded.
''Look, Mr. Takashi, we found a body buried near your land,'' Kageromaru revealed. ''This is the finding of the forensic work. We already confirmed the identity of the body. It's the real Shiro Kon. That means the man you had working for you was an imposter.''
''This is not possible,'' Sesshomaru denied.
''If I came to see you it's because this man evidently came here with a purpose. He killed Shiro Kon to use his name and enter this ranch without you suspecting anything about who he really was,'' Kageromaru said. ''It's very important for the investigation that you tell me if you have any idea who this man really was.''
Sesshomaru's eyes suddenly widened and his whole body began to vibrate with building rage and despair.
''Good evening.''
''Good evening,'' Sesshomaru greeted the person behind Rin.
Rin's eyes widened and a smile pulled on her lips before she fainted into Sesshomaru's arms.
''Rin. Rin, what's the matter? Rin? Sara! Sango! Get in here now!'' Sesshomaru shouted. ''Rin, wake up my love.''
''What happened?'' Sara ran in.
''Oh, god, she fainted,'' Sayo gasped.
''Kohaku Mai,'' Sesshomaru growled low.
''I'm sorry? I couldn't hear you,'' Kageromaru voiced.
''No, no, I have no idea who he was,'' Sesshomaru tried to convince himself more than the police Chief.
''Think about it. Think what that criminal was looking for by coming here to impersonate another man. Let me remind you that the life of an innocent young woman is in danger,'' Kageromaru reminded him. ''So we need to find him as soon as possible. Please get in touch with me if you have any information that can lead to his arrest.''
''I'll do that,'' Sesshomaru stated.
''Well, then, I won't take anymore of your time,'' Kageromaru excused himself and headed out the front door.
Sesshomaru's stayed wide, flashing red while he tried to control himself and tell himself what he was imagining couldn't possibly be.
Rin pulled up outside of Father Jaken's house and saw Souta standing by his parked car.
''What a surprise to find you here,'' Rin smirked as she got down from the truck. ''Why?''
''Nothing, I came to Father Jaken's house to bring Sara, she wanted to talk to him, I don't know about what,'' Souta shrugged.
Rin's smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. ''She went looking for you after my husband kicked her out of the house.''
''No, well, she told me she left, not that she'd been kicked out, that's what I know,'' Souta told her.
Rin took a deep breath. ''You know what? I'm glad you two are together, yes. You're made for each other.'' Rin smirked at Souta before making her way into Father Jaken's house, not surpised to find Sara sitting at his kitchen table. ''Good morning, Father.''
''Oh, Rin!'' Jaken exclaimed with delight and stood up to greet her. ''What a pleasure to see you, dear! Come in, have a seat.''
''Thank you, Father,'' Rin smiled and took the spot where Sara was originally sitting. ''Someone is waiting for you outside,'' Rin smiled at Sara.
Sara glared at Rin before turning to Father Jaken. ''I'm leaving, Father.''
Jaken sighed. ''Yes, dear, see you soon.''
''Won't you bless me?'' Sara whimpered.
Jaken nodded. ''Yes, I bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen. Behave.''
Sara nodded and walked out.
''I am a good Catholic. I am not allowed to hate anyone,'' Rin had to remind herself. ''May I ask why she came?''
''To complain because Sesshomaru kicked her out of the ranch!'' Jaken rolled his eyes. ''She says she didn't take that money, but I think she's lying.''
''Of course she's lying, Father!'' Rin exclaimed. ''Actually, she was brought here by the guy who helped her steal the money! And that's not the real reason why my husband kicked her out but I want to talk about that. It's too nasty, and I'd feel ashamed to say it with you. I actually came because I have wonderful news and I couldn't wait to tell you. Sesshomaru and I are going to be parents.''
''Oh, thank you, God!'' Jaken grinned.
Sesshomaru stumbled into his office as his head became filled with moments that all suddenly seemed to make sense to him.
''How are you feeling?'' Sara asked. ''I decided to come since your wife went out. I couldn't wait to see you.''
''I feel better,'' Sesshomaru answered. ''Rin went out? Where?''
''I don't know. Perhaps, to the foreman's house,'' Sara suggested.
''What for?'' Sesshomaru questioned.
''I have no idea. You'll have to ask her that,'' Sara smiled.
Sesshomaru began to growl.
''So you're sure he's alive,'' Sesshomaru said.
''Yes,'' Rin replied.
Sesshomaru could feel his eyes tearing up the more he thought about everything.
Sesshomaru pulled out a sheet of paper from his middle desk drawer. ''I found..This note on your desk. It's a letter you wrote for my wife.''
Kohaku sighed. ''Sesshomaru, this isn't what you think.''
''And according to you, what am I thinking?'' Sesshomaru questioned. ''That message was to tell Rin you were leaving and ask her to meet you at the lily pond to talk. Why?''
''Listen. I'll tell you the truth because you're entitled to know what's happening. And it's time I told the truth,'' Kohaku began. ''Me coming to your ranch looking for a job as a foreman is not a coincidence. That..That was just a convenient excuse. I'm here..Because I'm in love with a woman.''
Sesshomaru let out a yell full of anguish before picking a chair and throwing it as hard as he could.
''I don't want anything to ruin my happiness, Father. I am so happy!'' Rin squealed.
Jaken smiled. ''Oh dear, you don't know how pleased I am to hear you say that. Listen to me, when God blesses a marriage with such a wonderful gift, that means he's with you and he'll always protect you so nothing ruins your happiness!''
''Oh Father, thank you so much. Sesshomaru and I are thrilled!'' Rin smiled brightly. ''The one who was also very happy about the news was Sayo. She acted like the baby I'm expecting was her niece or nephew. Tell me the truth, Father, is Sayo Sesshomaru's half sister?''
Jaken's eyes widened.
Sesshomaru ran both of his clawed hands through his hair, trying to get the memories out of his head.
''Well, you better figure something out. What would Sesshomaru say if he found out Kohaku is so close by?'' Tohru taunted. Sesshomaru suddenly appeared and grabbed Tohru's shirt collar, lifting him off the grass.
''Where is that bastard? Talk, Tohru, unless you want me to break your skull!'' Sesshomaru growled.
''Stop, please, Sesshomaru!'' Rin shouted.
Sesshomaru threw everything off of his desk and onto the floor.
''The authorities won't believe what I say. Really. I-I-I have to go. Excuse me.''
''Don't you understand the moment you cross the gate they'll kill you? Let me find a way to help you,'' Sesshomaru said.
''No. I have to leave,'' Kohaku shook his head.
''Well, what do you want? To end up dead?'' Sesshomaru questioned.
''I have to go!'' Kohaku shouted.
''Please, stay!'' Rin exclaimed.
Sesshomaru could feel tears beginning to run down his face.
''Did you see him? Were you able to get him out of jail?'' Rin questioned as soon as he entered their room.
''No,'' Sesshomaru shook his head. ''He tried to escape and a policeman shot him. He's dead.''
Rin's eyes widened. ''No. No, that can't be true.''
''Unfortunately it is,'' Sesshomaru grimaced.
''Tell me that this is not true, Sesshomaru. Tell me that this is not true, please,'' Rin whimpered.
''I'm sorry, Rin,'' Sesshomaru said.
''No, it can't be true, Sesshomaru. It can't be!'' Rin insisted. ''This is my fault!''
''Calm down. Calm down, my love. You have to relax, you're pregnant,'' Sesshomaru reminded her.
''This is my fault, Sesshomaru! I should've told him not to go, that everything was dangerous!'' Rin exclaimed.
''Why do you say that?'' Sesshomaru asked.
''Because I should have told him to stay!'' Rin yelled.
''We both insisted, but he didn't want to,'' Sesshomaru pointed out.
''This isn't possible. This can't be possible! No, no, no, no!'' Rin collapsed onto their bed and sobbed.
''Rin, please-You have to calm down-Kagome! Miss Sakura!'' Sesshomaru shouted.
Sesshomaru wiped his tears away and went into his desk drawer to find his revolver. He put exactly two bullets in it.
