A/N: This is a short chapter to appease the viewers who keep on yelling at me to update faster and who keep leaving reviews on my other stories to update this one despite not having any real time to work on it. Hope you're happy!
The group slowly walked through the entrance of the Forest Temple-
AWOOOOO!
-and immediately found themselves up against two Wolfos right at the start.
"It's the welcoming committee!" Eddy exclaimed as they all drew their weapons.
"Same as last time! Dodge their attacks, then strike!" Navi shouted as she floated above the battlefield. Link and Edd faced off against one while Ed and Eddy fought against the other. Link kept his foe distracted by making it defend itself by constantly striking at it, allowing Edd to sneak up behind it and impale the Wolfos with his sword, ending it in one strike.
Eddy didn't really get to do much since Ed swung like a maniac at the Wolfos, cutting it to ribbons despite putting up it's guard.
"Nice job, Ed." Eddy said with a chuckle before seeing something move above them. "Check it out! Gold Skulltula!"
"Get it Eddy!" Ed yelled with a smile before grabbing his friend and winding up.
"ED WAIT!" Edd yelped before Ed threw Eddy up at the Skulltula, smashing it before Eddy fell back down, token in hand.
"Did you get it Eddy?" Ed asked before his throat was grabbed by Eddy.
"Yeah! I got it! And if you don't get up that tree and get whatever is inside the chest I saw while I was up there, you're gonna get it!" Eddy growled before shoving Ed up the tree, who quickly climbed out when Eddy pushed him into the tree. They waited for a moment before Ed fell off the tree and smacked into the ground. "Well?'
"Got it!" he announced while holding the key up, which Eddy took.
"Let's get going already!" Navi snapped. They helped Ed up and proceeded through the door, entering a small hall that lead to another door.
"What do you think we'll find?!" Ed asked as he lifted his visor, showing a huge grin at the thought of all the cool things he might see. The grin fell when a skulltula the size of Link descended, blocking the way.
"You mean besides the monsters?" Navi asked while Eddy stepped forward.
"I got this." he said with a smirk before holding up his pointer finger, a ball of flame the size of a baseball appearing before being shot at the skulltula. The monster thrashed and danced in the air before the flame hit the web connecting it to the ceiling, causing it to fall and writhe in pain on the ground before dying.
"Impressive. Have you been practicing?" Edd asked while Eddy blew out his finger like it was a smoking gun.
"Maybe." Eddy chuckled as they walked on and entered the next door, leading them to a large room with many doors. In the center of the room was what looked to be an elevator of sorts that was supported by a single chain and surrounded by four totems, each one burning with a different colored flame of red, blue, green and purple.
"Navi, what do you know about the Forest Temple?" Link asked as they all walked into the room and looked around.
"I know that the Forest Temple is mostly...well, forest." Navi began while Edd examined one of the vine covered railings as they descended the staircase. "It was designed as a sort of maze-like labyrinth to confuse explorers, but...it feels off."
"What do you mean?" Eddy asked.
"I believe she's referring to the evil that is now infesting the area, just as it has the Kokori Forest. Am I correct?" said Edd. Navi was about to reply before the area was filled with...girlish giggling? The four men slammed into each other's back as they scanned the area for whomever was giggling.
"Man, it almost sounds like the Kanker Sisters laugh." Eddy whispered, fireballs dancing in his palms and ready to fire at anything.
"You don't think...they came here after us, do you?!" Edd asked as he started to flash back to the three attacking and kissing him and his friends.
"Yucky girl germs!" Ed whimpered.
"Are you three for real?!" Navi asked incredulously. "We have more important things to worry about!"
"Indeed you do."
All of them tensed as a woman's voice filled the air before the four flames on the torches were suddenly snuffed out.
"Who's there?!" Link demanded. His answer came when four poes appeared above the torches, each one with a different look and color and holding a flame that matched their color.
"Since you asked so nicely, we'll tell you." the red poe spoke up in a polite voice. "We are the Poe Sisters. I am Joelle."
"I'm Beth." the blue Poe sister said with a yawn.
"I'M AMY!" the green Poe sister announced with a cheer.
"And I am Meg. Pleasure to meet you." the purple Poe said in a calm voice. Link was still on edge while the Eds sighed in relief.
"Not the Kankers." Eddy muttered while Link rolled his eyes before refocusing on the sisters.
"What do you four want?" Link asked.
"Oh, nothing much." Joelle said. "We just want to play a little game with you four is all."
"Yeah! We're bored!" Amy said enthusiastically. "You guys are the first ones to appear here in a long time!"
"Well, actually..." Beth began before yawning. "There was that one girl some time ago. The one with green hair."
That got their attention fast.
"You mean Saria? Where is she?! What did you do to her?!" Link demanded.
"Who knows?" Joelle said with a small laugh, which was soon joined by her sisters. Link grit his teeth in rage, a feeling that the Eds soon mimicked if their angered expressions were anything to go by.
"Easy you four." said Navi, despite her own rising anger. "We don't know what those four are capable of. And besides, they're not the source of the evil corrupting the temple."
"Your fairy friend is quite correct." Meg said before gesturing to the elevator. "Our master lies below us and has eagerly been awaiting your arrival for some time."
"Then that makes this simple. We take the elevator, find your boss and knock 'em dead." Eddy declared.
"That's a good *yawn* idea." Beth said in a tired voice. "But there's one small problem."
"What's that?" Ed asked before the elevator descended into the ground, cutting them off from the lower level.
"What's going on?" Edd asked
"The elevator's out of order!" Amy declared.
"And it'll stay that way so long as these flames are in our possession." Meg informed them.
"Is that all? I can relight those torches, no problem." Eddy scoffed as he held a fireball and aimed at the torch.
"Won't do you any good. Those torches were made to only accept...power from the..." Beth began before she fell asleep.
"Uh...Beth? Hellooooo~?" Amy called to her slumbering sister while gently shaking her.
"Poor thing. Always so tired for some strange reason." Meg said while shaking her head and sighing fondly. "Still, now is not a good time to take a nap."
"Let me." Joelle said as she floated before her blue sister-
BONK!
-and promptly bopped her head with her lit torch.
"THE FLAMES AND TORCHES ARE LINKED BY A SPECIAL MAGIC THAT NO OTHER FLAME CAN COPY!" Beth yelled out before rubbing her head. "I hate when you do that."
"Then kindly stop sleeping all the time." Joelle admonished with a huff before turning back to the confused group. "As Beth explained, the flames we now possess are the only flames that can be used on the torches. Unless you get them back, I'm afraid you won't be using this elevator anytime soon."
"Catch us if you can~!" Amy sang while smacking her butt towards them before she and her sisters all phased through the walls, their laughter filling the area as the room dimmed from the lack of the torches light.
"Oh great. Now we have to do this the hard way!" Eddy huffed.
"I'd honestly be surprised if you thought it would be a straight shot to the boss." Edd stated before holding his chin in his hand as he examined the doors leading out of the room, some of which were barred off. "Hmm. Looks like our options are slim. Either way, I'm afraid that if we wish to eject the vile source of evil from the Forest Temple, we must track down all four of the Poe sisters and retrieve the flames that they've stolen."
"HOORAY! WE'RE GHOST HUNTERS!" Ed yelled in excitement."
"Come on." Link ordered before he strode towards the door at the top of the staircase opposite the door they came in. "The faster we move, the faster we can get there."
"But we still need to be careful!" Edd began. "Those Poe sisters and the other monsters could all be waiting to-"
"MOVE IT!" Link snapped before walking through the door and slamming it behind him, leaving the Eds and Navi in stunned silence.
"What's with him?" Eddy asked as they all quickly followed after Link.
A/N: I hope to update more when I can, but only when I can get in a proper writing mood and have enough free time to do so. I have a life outside of fanfiction.
