' "Don't you dare leave me!"

"I'm not leaving you, I just need time to myself".

"You're my wife!". His chest heaved as he pounded on the glass

"And you're my husband. But I don't love myself around you. Not anymore". '

CHAPTER 1

Bonnie was sure her tongue would fall off from all the pleased to meet yous she had been subjected into saying all night and her head spun from trying to remember what the hell they were saying to her.

"I'm not pleased to meet any of you" she thought as she struggled to curb the annoyance that slowly turned violent, watching the men leer at her like she was a piece of meat even with their wives and mistresses hanging on to their arms. There was nothing flattering about men old enough to be her grandfather looking as though they could see through her dress. But then again, she guessed that was the whole point her husband got it for her. She was supposed to be eye candy.

Her feet hurt and her head and cheeks too, from smiling with too much force at a joke that wasn't funny because he laughed.

Alaric...

He looked so handsome and confident as he walked around the room socialising. She knew how much he couldn't stand more than half of the people the brightly lit room held but he needed to kiss a bit of ass especially since the elections were coming up. If he wanted to be congressman, he had to play nice.

"Even though this is torture for me". She muttered under her breath, reaching for a drink. Her fingers had barely held on to a fresh glass of champagne when his gripped her wrist.

"Don't you think you've had enough?" he hissed, his hold tightening "Remember the other time you embarrassed me".

"You're hurting me" she spoke low "Now who's going to embarrass who? ".

He let her go, a dark look in his eyes. He didn't look like the charming politician he had been a few moments before and Bonnie gulped.

"This is my second glass".

"And the last for tonight". His voice was low and she was feeling like a little child being scolded as he stared daggers at her. Guilt coursed through her veins and her lips snapped into a straight line and her eyes looked down at his shoes. He had got them as a present on his last birthday from someone she didn't know and he wouldn't tell her who. It had bothered her so much because she wanted to get those exact pairs before and he had said, with irritation in his voice, how much he hated those kinds of shoes.

"Apparently you like them now when someone else got them for you".

"Let's go home" his tone was soft, Bonnie looked up at bright blue eyes and her heart swooned at the show of affection. Her eyes fluttered as he trailed a finger from the side of her head to her lips then chin.

"Okay. I just need to grab my coat" her words were barely out of her mouth as she moved away towards the coat room.

Someone bumps into her and mumbles an apology. Her brows raised at his retreating form that had on a pair of slacks and dress shirt with a black beanie on his head -a very controversial look for such an event. She didn't have the time to ponder on it as she used her eyes to search for her husband and see him talking to a female brunette in that way he always did when he didn't want drama in public. The hairs on her arms stood on edge.

A couple of people caused her view to shift for a moment but that was enough to lose sight of her husband and by the time she looked back at him, the woman was gone and he had his normal charming look plastered on his face without the trace of annoyance she had seen before.

He helped her into her coat and kissed on her cheek softly.

«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»

She wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him deeper into her. A low groan escaped both their lips as he circled his hips causing her back to arch off the bed and her fingers to find themselves in his hair, pulling his mouth down to hers.

"This feels so good" she murmured as he kissed down her neck drawing the both of them towards their release. She climaxes first, her body clenching tightly around him down below and triggering his.

Her body was sated, her mind clear and she looked up to Alaric's face as he lay beside her looking at nothing.

"Who was that at the party? " she asked pretending she didn't notice his body stiffen. "I'm just over analysing things".

"Someone you don't know".

"You looked pretty upset about what she was saying".

"Are you a detective now Bonnie? Don't hurt your brain".

She sat up from the bed with anger "Don't call me stupid".

He rolled his eyes and got up, letting the sheets fall to the floor and expose his nakedness. Bonnie was mad but she couldn't stop her eyes moving across the length of his body. "I married Adonis".

He smirked. Bonnie was easy to control if you know the buttons to push.

She forced her eyes to his face and frowned as he started to dress.

"Where are you going? ".

"I have a late meeting".

"You didn't tell me about it".

"I don't recall having to check in with you Madame".

"Stop mocking me! ".

"You take things too seriously darling" he kisses her cheek " see you in the morning. Maybe you would have stopped acting like a spoilt brat by then" he grinned demurely.

She holds on to his shirts sleeve before he pulls away with a sudden need to apologize "I'm sorry. Drive safe. I love you".

"Yeah, you too hon". And he leaves.

Her body sinks into the bed as she felt more like a mistress than a wife. Loneliness gnawed at her chest and she felt the familiar longing for a child as she usually did whenever he would leave for a meeting.

"Probably that brunette" she thought bitterly, clenching her hands into the comforter.

"When he comes back, we'll talk about having kids again" she said into the empty room hoping that will give her more resolve to do as she wanted.
