Next Life with Monstergirls
Disclaimer: I don't own DXD
Summary: Before enrolling in Kouh Academy, Issei Hyoudou dies in a fateful attempt to save a life. Instead of Heaven or Hell, he finds himself revived in a world that almost feels like paradise, complete with harems of monstergirls. As he starts his new life in the Kingdom of Teras, he'll find many "friends" along his adventures. Complete AU, and Xover characters.
Issei Hyoudou was feeling rather optimistic about his future. He and his friends managed to get just good enough grades to qualify for Kouh Academy, an all-girls school that recently became co-ed. Aka, a place swimming with babes! A perfect place of beauties with very little male competition! It was the perfect start to his quest to have a harem!
And to celebrate, he was on his way to spend some saved up money to procure a new hentai he had been wanting to see.
Yeah, things were going just how Issei wanted right now.
"Help!"
Now, most who knew Issei only in passing might think that his first thought at hearing a woman scream for help was to come to her rescue in an effort to score brownie points with her.
However, Issei didn't have a single perverted thought as he ran towards an alley, looking down it to see a woman with her shirt ripped, pure panic on her face. Some creepy white haired guy had her pinned to the wall, holding a knife to her. Despite everything else, Issei's first instinct was to try and help someone in danger. And if he didn't, no one would. The sun was starting to set and there was no one around this part of town right now.
Thus, Issei didn't hesitate. He ran forward and by the time the man noticed him, Issei was already swinging a fist into the man's face. "Take that, Asshole!" Issei yelled, looking to the girl to see if she was fine...
She wasn't. He hadn't been holding a knife to her, he had stabbed her! It was buried deep in her right chest, probably in her lung. Issei wasn't a health nut, but even he knew that taking that out would probably kill her. He had to get her he-
In his shock, he forgot about the creep, who had decided to return the favor to Issei, decking him in the mouth. Issei gritted his teeth as he tasted his own blood, turning to see the bastard was smirking sickly at him. "Well, looks like we got a school boy playing hero," he said with a disturbingly cheerful voice. "Tell you what, Kid? As a reward for that cheap shot, I'll let you go if you turn your punk ass right around and waltz out of here."
"Sure," Issei said sarcastically. "Just let me carry the girl out too."
"Ha! You're a funny one. I'll enjoy cutting that tongue out. Might make her eat it if she's still alive by then," the man said with a deranged chuckle as he pulled out another knife. "Welcome to the real world, kiddo! Where little shits like you get eaten alive."
Issei glanced around, hoping to find a weapon, a pipe, anything that would even the odds just a bit. But there was none, and his enemy wouldn't give him much chance to look before charging at him.
Issei was not a kid that got into fights. And this guy clearly wasn't a stranger to hurting others, getting a cut in Issei's left arm as Issei tried to back peddle. The man laughed tauntingly. "You really thought you'd swoop in like some big hero! Ahhh, did you think I'd run off after the first punch?"
"Shut up," Issei growled, keeping his eyes fixed on the knife.
Something the assailant took notice of; skillfully, he tossed the knife into his other hand, Issei's eyes following it, prompting the man to sent the now-free hand into Issei's stomach as a fist. Issei nearly doubled over. If not for the adrenaline, he would have. But his vigilance paid off in the end, as he saw the knife coming for his side. Issei barely avoided that, grabbing the incoming hand and making the knife hit down on the man's leg.
"Oh, you little bastard," the man growled murderously as he head butted Issei, making him stumble back against the wall. He ripped the knife from his own leg. "Fine, you like the bitch so much, I'll send you off the same way!"
Issei tried to block the attack- but he missed, too disoriented to see straight. His body went numb for a moment as he felt the knife impale in his chest. He took a few shuddering breathes as he slid down. Unlike the girl, Issei found that the knife was on other other side: near his heart. Too near.
He was only numbly aware of the knife being grabbed again, before it was twisted in the wound.
"AHHHH!" he screamed as the man snickered at his pain.
"Ohhh, did that hurt?" he asked with a grin. "Well suck it up and take it like a big boy. It'll just be a bit longer now."
Issei panted, looking over to the girl at the opposite side from him. She was still there, the other knife still impaled in her. He felt so useless and pathetic. He couldn't even save one girl from a creep like this. Now they were both going to die.
Issei's eyes widened as the knife was removed from his chest. But it wasn't the pain or numbness that shocked him. No, it was the girl. She was...reaching up to grab the knife in her own wound. She gritted her teeth and pulled it out without making a noise, her chest now bleeding heavily.
"When you get to Hell?" the man said rhetorically, leaning down to put the knife under Issei's chin. "Tell them Freed sent you."
Issei didn't know if it was luck, fate, or just a final burst of adrenaline, but the girl managed to toss the knife over to Issei, and he in turned managed to catch it.
Without even thinking about it, he stabbed Freed in the neck, who was now staring at Issei with wide eyes.
"You first," Issei grunted, using what strength he had to kick the man in the balls, making him double over. Issei pulled the knife out, blood pouring out rapidly as the dying man rolled over.
Issei smiled apologetically to the girl across from him. He was tempted to crawl over there next to her, maybe try and put pressure on her wound to keep the bleeding down. Not to mention, dying next to a pretty girl was just objectively more appealing than dying next to this asshole. But he knew he had spent whatever energy he had. He was getting numb, cold as his limbs grew weak.
So, this was how he died, huh? Didn't even get to set foot in Kouh, let alone get a harem. At least his friends could live the dream in his name. Oh, his parents were going to be devastated though. Dammit, he didn't want to put them through that. But it didn't look like he got a say in that.
Were those...sirens he heard? Or was he imagining it? He didn't know, but he hoped they were real. It'd be nice if he actually managed to save the girl in the end. If not, well, maybe she wouldn't mind the company.
Assuming they were going to the same place, of course.
His vision was getting spotty and fading. He tried to focus as he saw the girl moving her lips. She couldn't speak, but she was trying to mouth something.
Wait, was she...mouthing his name? How did she know his name?
Dammit, why did he have to die with that question unanswered?
Well, here's to hoping he got some kind of sexy afterlife...
"Well, you're not wrong."
Issei's eyes snapped open as he felt a burst of relief and shock roll over his body. The pain was gone! He was alive! Did that mean the ambulance got to him in time? Was he in a hospital?
"Easy, easy. You're not going to be at a full strength for at least a week," a voice called, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Who am I?! Where are you?!" Issei exclaimed, pausing as he realized what he said. "Er, I meant that the other way around."
"It's okay, you're just a bit disoriented. You're safe now, I promise," the voice said soothingly at his side.
He didn't respond, rubbing his eyes, trying to get them to refocus so his vision wasn't so blurry. "Shit, I thought I was going to die," he said under his breath.
"You did," the voice answered apologetically.
Issei paused at that out of place comment, realizing that he was definitely not in a hospital because he could feel the stone floor beneath him. He pulled his hand back from his face, staring numbly at this strange and new place he was in. He was in the back of a large rectangular room that was surrounded by pillars of polished stone. He was sitting on a slightly raised platform with a set of steps leading up to it. Around the platform were a series of poles with incense burning from the bowls at the top.
Was this some kind of temple?
He looked over to see a girl with beautiful green eyes and blonde hair. She was also wearing what may or may not be a nun's outfit. Yeah, probably a temple.
"Did...you just say I died?" Issei repeated slowly. He got a small smile and a nod. Thus, he grinned. "Well, I must be in heaven to be meeting an angel."
She blushed, looking shocked before smiling bashfully. "You're...probably still out of it."
Issei didn't deny that, because he was half-convinced this was just a nice dream his brain put on as he died. "So, does that mean this isn't the afterlife?"
She chuckled at that. "Well, it is the "next life" for you, but no. You're in the Temple of Reincarnation," she informed softly.
"Temple of- Did I get summoned here to battle a Dark Lord or something?" Issei asked warily.
Now she was giggling. "No, but we get that question a lot. Oh, forgive my rudeness: I'm Asia Argento, the attending priestess," she greeted with a smile.
"Umm, Issei Hyoudou," he returned uncertainly. "So, why am I here then?"
"No one is sure," Asia answered carefully as she stood before offering Issei her hand. "Here, let me help you get somewhere comfortable, then I'll answer all your questions."
Issei stared at the hand for a moment before taking the appendage. It felt so soft and small in his hand. Maybe this wasn't a dream after all?
He followed her curiously as she led him to the front of the temple and pushed open a large set of double doors. Issei winced at the brightness, his eyes refocusing as he looked out and-
Asia giggled a bit as he went stock still and gaped. "That's a normal reaction," she assured.
Issei didn't hear her. It wasn't the city that was straight out of some fantasy anime, which it was. It wasn't that he could see several hot women, which he could.
No, no. It was the monstergirls.
There was no other word for them: everywhere he looked, there were these humanoid, female creatures with animal parts: a centauress pulling a carriage, a literal catgirl with a basket of food, a small group of doggirls in armor patrolling the streets, harpies flying through the skies. He might have even spotted an elf!
Slowly, he looked back to a smiling Asia, who gestured to the city.
"Welcome to the Kingdom of Teras, Issei."
Needless to say, Issei nearly fainted after that. Nearly. With that shock still settling in his mind, Issei found himself being led to a small building at the side of the temple.
"This is where our guests stay, along with those attending the temple," Asia informed as he sat on the bed in the small room.
"Yeah, thanks," Issei said idly, staring at nothing.
"Would you like some time alone, or would you rather have some answers now?" Asia asked in understanding.
Issei blinked, trying to pick any question out of his head. "Is...everyone here from Earth? I mean, everyone human?" he asked curiously.
"Oh no, there are plenty of people who are born here, but all of them are descended from reincarnations," Asia informed with a smile. "I'm actually one as well."
"Wait, really!?" Issei asked in surprise.
Asia nodded. "I've been here a few years now. I know it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, so feel free to ask me anything."
"Thanks, I appreciate that," Issei said in relief. "So, you said this place is Teras?" he recalled, getting a confirmation. "And people like me- us, show up normally?"
"Yes, at least a few every year. Sometimes once a month," she informed.
"And the..." Issei hesitated for a moment, wondering what the call the female creatures outside.
"Monstergirls?" Asia asked with a smile, getting a surprised look from Issei. "Yes, that's what they're called. They're actually the majority: Only one in ten of the people in Teras are humans."
"Seriously!?" Issei exclaimed, standing up in amazement. "So there is an entire nation filled with sexy girls with animal parts?"
Asia giggled. "Yes, yes that's true. I'll introduce you to some later."
"Are you sure you're not an angel?" Issei asked with a grin, making her blush again.
"A-anyway, you should be resting. Your body will take around a week to finish assimilating," she informed.
"Assimilating? What does that mean?" Issei asked in confusion.
"Well, when someone comes here, the power of the reincarnation process will eventually return you to your prime, if you're not already, and heal you of any disfigurements or disabilities. Among other things," she explained as if it was something normal.
"Okay, not a problem for me, but that's got to be awesome for a lot of people," Issei admitted in amazement. He could just imagine someone who lost a limb or their sight being overjoyed by that boon.
"Why don't you rest for now? I have to get the paperwork ready in the mean time," Asia suggested.
"Paperwork?" Issei repeated in surprise, and amusement. The idea was almost surreal, but he supposed that even a fantasy world had to have a bureaucracy.
"Of course. You're a citizen of Teras now, after all," Asia informed with a smile before turning to leave. "I'll have some food brought here later. In the mean time, please rest and relax."
End of Chapter
Okay, first off, this is NOT the Monstergirls or world from Monstergirl Encyclopedia. This setting is largely based off a CYOA called "Comfy Monstergirl Harem Reincarnation" by an aquantence of mine called Nonemouse.
As you can see, this is a complete and utterly different story from canon. Asia, instead of being a Nun with a Sacred Gear, is a Priestess in this world. Where, yes, people being Isekai'd is normal to the point of having paperwork for the situation.
About it for now. Hope you all enjoy this.
