Professor Maxwell was walking through the Academy hallway, and he couldn't stop thinking about his hatred for the Slifer dorm.

Maxwell: Pathetic. Why the academy even keeps such failures around is beyond me. Well, at least I can benefit from them being here by lining my pockets with the money for their dorm. I've worked at this school for years, and the whole time, no one has been aware of what I've been doing. Until that insufferable Michael Shadows arrived. If I don't get rid of him, I'll be discovered.

Chazz: Dr. Maxwell.

Maxwell: Did you want something Mr. Princeton?

Chazz: Yeah, I want in the tag duel against Jaden and Michael. I want payback for Michael embarrassing me in front of the rest of the dorm.

Maxwell: Sorry Chazz, but you're sitting this duel out. I want those two out of here, even if only temporarily, so I'm taking no chances. Which is why they're going to be facing the greatest tag duelists in the world.

Meanwhile, Jaden and Michael were talking strategy in Jaden's dorm.

Chumley: How can you guys be so calm right now?

Jaden: What's to worry about? Just another day another duel, right Michael?

Michael nodded as he looked over his deck.

Michael: Although we should be on guard. Since Maxwell arranged our opponents, they won't be pushovers. We might need a little insurance policy.

Syrus: Well, good luck you guys.

Chumley: Ditto.

Jaden and Michael began to make their way to the arena for their duel. Students were starting to file into the arena to watch.

Announcer: The tag duel will begin shortly. And remember, these are test conditions. This is a sudden suspension match.

Bastion: Considering what this duel is over, I'd say that's getting off pretty lightly.

Lily: Yeah, thanks to Michael.

Bastion: Lily, it's nice to see you.

Lily: It's nice to see you too Bastion. This is Alexis, she's a good friend of mine," Lily responded.

Bastion: It's very nice to meet you.

Alexis: Thanks. I hope they'll be okay. I heard that Maxwell arranged for professionals to duel them. Tag team legends who worked with the creator of the game.

Announcer: Send in the accused.

Michael and Jaden walked into the arena.

Jaden: The acoustics in here are great.

Michael: Yeah, you could put on a concert in here.

Jaden: Good one.

Michael: Just trying to lighten the mood.

Maxwell: And without further ado, allow me to introduce our guest tag team duo.

Suddenly, two men backflipped onto the stage.

Michael: Wait a minute, are they?

Maxwell: The Paradox Brothers!

Michael: Well, this is unexpected.

Jaden: Wait, you know them?

Michael: I've read about them before. They worked for Pegasus during the Duelist Kingdom tournament, and faced off against Yugi Moto and Joey Wheeler in a tag duel, but ultimately lost.

Jaden: So you got any ideas on how to beat them?

Michael: A few.

Maxwell: The rules for this duel are simple. There is no sharing of strategies, advice, or any card that is not yet in play. You can however use cards on your partner's field. Understood?

All duelists: Yeah.

Maxwell: Then duel!

J & M: 8000 LP

Jaden: You ready Michael?

Michael: Like you need to ask. I'll go first, and I summon Renge, Gatekeeper of Dark World in defense mode.

Level 4/Dark/Fiend

Michael: I end my turn.

Para: And I expected more. I summon Jirai Gumo in attack mode and end my turn.

Level 4/Earth/Insect

ATK 2200/DEF 100

Jaden: An overgrown bug? Well, I summon Elemental Hero Burstinatrix in defense mode and end my turn.

Level 3/Fire/Warrior

ATK 1200/DEF 800

Dox: The best defense is a strong offense. I summon Kaiser Sea Horse in attack mode.

Level 4/Light/Sea Serpent

ATK 1700/DEF 1650

Dox: Next I play the spell card Tribute Doll. First, I must sacrifice a monster from our side of the field. Fortunate my brother is generous with his.

His brother nodded in response.

Dox: And by sacrificing Jirai Gumo, I can summon a level 7 monster, such as Kazejin.

Level 7/Wind/Spellcaster

ATK 2400/DEF 2200

Michael: There it is, one of the three monsters needed to summon Gate Guardian.

Dox: Now I unleash the magic of Dark Designator. With it, I can declare the name of any monster I can think of, and if my brother has it in his deck, he can add it to his hand, and I choose Sanga of the Thunder.

Para: What do you know, it's right here, ready to tear them asunder.

Michael: This is bad. In only two turns, they've managed to gather two of the three monsters needed to summon Gate Guardian.

Dox: With that, I end my turn.

Michael: Then it's my move. If I remember right, Kazejin can reduce the damage from one monster's attack to 0, but it can only do that once while it's on the field. I sacrifice Renge in order to summon Goldd, Wu Lord of Dark World.

Level 5/Dark/Fiend

ATK 2300/DEF 1400

Michael: Now attack Para directly!

His monster raised his axe and rushed the man.

Para: If you please brother?

Dox: It would be my pleasure indeed brother. Kazejin, defend with Squall Barricade!

Kazejin moved in front of Para and unleashed a strong gust of wind, forcing Goldd back.

Para: It appears you are unaware, despite studying us so diligently,

Dox: About Kazejin's special ability.

Michael: Actually, I knew you would block my attack. But Kazejin can only use that effect once, which means it can't use his special ability to protect you anymore. I'll place a card face-down and end my turn.

Para: I see, not a bad move, but here is a better one. I play the spell Monster Reborn to summon Jirai Gumo from the graveyard. But it shall not be here for long, for I activate the spell card Tribute Doll.

Michael: That's not good.

Para: Indeed. For now, I sacrifice Jirai Gumo to bring forth Suijin.

Level 7/Water/Aqua

ATK 2500/DEF 2400

Para: And I am not done yet. Mind if I borrow a monster brother?

Dox: Please, that's why he's there.

Para: I sacrifice Kaiser Sea Horse.

Dox: In case you did not know, when you are summoning a light attribute monster, Kaiser Sea Horse's sacrifice counts as two instead of one, which means my brother can summon Sanga of the Thunder.

Level 7/Light/Thunder

ATK 2600/DEF 2200

Lily: Three level 7 monsters?!

Para: Three monsters on our side, what could be better?

Dox: I know brother. When they join together.

Para: Prepare yourselves. I sacrifice Suijin, Kazejin, and Sanga of the Thunder, so that I can now summon the ultimate monster, Gate Guardian!

Level 11/Dark/Warrior

ATK 3750/DEF 3400

Jaden: He's ginormous.

Para: Wait until you see his attack. Destroy Goldd with Tidal Surge Attack!

Gate Guardian launched a massive blast of water at Michael's monster, destroying it.

J & M: 6550 LP

Bastion: They're off to a shaky start.

Alexis: They can turn this duel around, I know they can.

Lily: Yeah, I know Michael can do it.

Jaden: Well, the bigger they are the harder they fall. Let's take this thing down.

Michael: And I know that if Jaden and I work together, we can beat them.

Para: I can't wait to see you try, so I'll end my turn with a face-down card.

Jaden: Then it's time to go to work. Here goes. Sweet. I activate the spell card Polymerization. With it, I'll fuse the Burstinatrix on my field with the Clayman in my hand in order to summon the Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster!

Level 6/Earth/Warrior

ATK 2000/DEF 2500

Jaden: And due to her special ability, she can attack directly when she's in defense mode.

Rampart Blaster pointed her cannon arm at the Paradox Brothers and launched a barrage of missiles at them.

PB: 7000 LP

Jaden: Sure the damage you take is half of what you normally would, but hey it's a special ability, what are you gonna do? I end my turn.

Michael: Nice shot Jaden.

Dox: It's my move. And I activate the equip spell Fairy Meteor Crush. With it, if Gate Guardian attacks a monster in defense mode, the difference between its attack and your monsters defense is dealt to you as damage.

Michael: Not if I play this: the spell card Mystical Space Typhoon. This will let me destroy any spell or trap card in play, such as your Fairy Meteor Crush.

Para: I think not. I activate the trap Judgement of Anubis. By discarding one card, your spell card is negated, and then one of your monsters is destroyed, and you take its attack points as damage.

Michael: Sorry Jaden.

Jaden: It's cool. We can still win this.

J & M: 4550 LP

Dox: We shall see about that. I now summon Defense Wall.

Level 4/Earth/Rock

ATK 0/DEF 2100

Dox: As long as this monster is out, you can only attack it. I end my turn.

Michael: My move, and I summon Scarr, Scout of Dark World in defense mode.

Level 2/Dark/Fiend

ATK & DEF 500

Michael: I place one card face-down and end my turn.

Para: Is that all. I draw. Now Gate Guardian, Tidal Surge Attack!

Dox: And due to the effect of Fairy Meteor Crush, you take the extra damage.

Gate Guardian unleashed its attack on Scarr, but when it cleared, Michael was fine, and he had 2 more cards in his hand.

J & M: 4550 LP

Para: What?! Why didn't your life points drop? And why are you holding two more cards than before I attacked?

Michael: Because I played my Defense Draw trap card. It reduces the damage from an attack to 0 and lets me draw a card. And due to Scarr's special ability, when he's destroyed in battle, I can add a level 4 or lower Dark World monster to my hand.

Para: A good move, but it will not save you.

Michael: That's what you think, but I've almost assembled all the cards I need to eliminate Gate Guardian.

Bastion: He managed to evade that one, but I fear they may not be able to hold out much longer.

Announcer: Attention Jaden Yuki. It is your turn. You must make a move, or you will be disqualified.
