Ch.4: Lyrical Seeds pt. 2

Fate Testarossa was sitting on the rim of a gurgling fountain in the center of the shopping district as she opened a video channel to Arf, her familiar.

"Fate!" The smiling light orange brown haired woman greeted upon hearing from her master. "Any luck finding the Jewel Seeds?"

Fate frowned, the question prompted her to remember the 'boy'. His fluffy looking green hair, the dimples that showed up on his cheeks when he smiled and made the freckles on his cheeks stand out, his emerald eyes all but mocking her as he snatched victory from her…

"Fate, are you getting sick? Arf asked, looking at her master worriedly. "Your cheeks are turning pink."

The blonde gave her head a shake. "It's nothing, I came across a Jewel Seed, but someone else beat me to it?"

"Was it the Time-Space Administration Bureau Fate? Are they onto us already?" Arf asked worriedly.

The young girl shook her head. "No, this person… The first one was young, inexperienced. She likely won't be a threat… the other one though… he could pose a problem."

Arf frowned, biting her lip for a moment before she finally said, "You know she likely won't accept this as an excuse for failure Fate."

The blonde looked away sadly. "I know… so we'll just have to try harder to make up for it."

Arf nodded. "Right! I did manage to find two unactivated Jewel Seeds though, so that's something right?"

Fate managed a smile. "Yeah good job Arf."

Fate knew they were not off to a good start, and they were now outnumbered by their adversaries. 'Well, I don't know if I can count that girl Nanoha, she could barely put up a shield but that boy…' She sighed, as she felt her cheeks heat up again. 'What's wrong with me?' She wondered.

"Are you sure you aren't sick?" Arf questioned worriedly. "Your cheeks keep getting flushed."

"I'm fine," Fate assured her familiar. "Let's take a break for the night and continue tomorrow."

"Right, get some rest Fate," Arf advised.

The girl smiled reassuringly, "I'll do that Arf, see you soon." She ended the call and made her way back to their room all the while her thoughts were full of a green haired boy and for the life of her, she couldn't figure out why. 'Maybe Arf is right and I am sick.'

Tatsumaki the Tornado of Terror awoke to the sight of her nephew doing finger pushups. She blinked thinking she was seeing things. She pinched herself. Upon verifying she was indeed awake she deadpanned, "What are you doing?"

"Oh good morning Auntie!" Izuku greeted, his hair and brow damp with sweat. "I was just getting my morning exercises in."

"I hope a shower comes after those exercises," Tatsumaki commented. "You can't exactly impress Nanoha-chan if you smell like a dumpster."

"I always shower Auntie, but what do I need to impress Nanoha-sempai for?" questioned her cute nephew as he continued to do the arduous exercises.

"Umu, girls like boys who smell good, master. You wouldn't be a very good kōhai if you came to your senpai smelling bad now would you?" Victoria commented from her spot on his nightstand.

Izuku was silent for a moment before he nodded, "Ah, that makes sense."

"Good, so go wash up, umu. When you're done, just put me on and I can change your barrier jacket into some casual clothing umu," The Device promised.

"Thanks Viki. I'll go do that now," He made his way into the bathroom and shut the door.

"Make sure and wash behind your ears!" Tatsumaki called. Before she turned her gaze to the Device. "Okay what're you up to?"

"Umu?" Victoria asked while obviously giving away she was faking confusion.

"Don't play dumb with me, what're you up to?" Tatsumaki glared at the Device. "Talk before I decide to flatten you like a penny."

Victoria had seen through her master's memories, just what Tatsumaki was capable of and why she was called the Tornado of Terror. She had no desire to die quite yet. "Alright, umu! Raising Heart-sempai and I just think our masters would look cute together, umu!"

Tatsumaki blinked, "You,and that Nanoha girl's device … are shipping them?"

After a moment of silence, Victoria Nobilis replied, "Term is unfamiliar. Define shipping please, umu."

"It's a term that means you want two particular people to get together," The midget replied.

"Definition acknowledged, and saved. Yes, we are most definitely shipping them," was the Hearty rely from Victoria

Tatsumaki looked left and right making sure they were alone before she whispered, "Me too, and if you tell anyone that, I'll crush you."

The Intelligent Device knew a promise from a threat when she heard one. "Understood."

Moments later Izuku came out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. Tatsumaki stared him down. "No way you've bathed properly already."

"I did too," Izuku rebutted, "I got used to taking quick showers in the morning so as not to wake mom up." he explained.

The Tornado of Terror put her hands on her hips, and huffed, "Victoria, scan him for me, tell me how clean he is."

"Scanning… Master's body is ninety-eight point nine percent clean. He has yet to brush his teeth," The Device replied.

"I don't have a toothbrush. So it's kinda hard to do that," Izuku explained when he got a look from his aunt.

Tatsumaki ground her teeth together. "We didn't plan for this trip very well, did we? Right, the first thing we're doing is going shopping today. We need more than just one outfit for each of us, and just basic amenities. Like toothbrushes."

"But first breakfast?" Izuku asked.

"First breakfast," Tatsumaki affirmed.

Thus, the two-dimensional hoppers left their hotel room knowing what they were going to do today.

'Why is shopping with women always so terrible? It's like buying clothes with mom all over again,' Izuku mentally cried to himself as he, fatigued beyond all belief SEVEN hours later and dragging his feet out of the dozenth store as he did his best to carry both his and his Aunt's bags, being the gentleman he was.

Seeing him dragging his feet, Tatsumaki sighed, "It wasn't that bad, was it?" Seeing the haunted silent stare she was being given in return made her chuckle nervously. "Okay so maybe that was a bit much for a kid your age. Let's go get something to eat."

The two made their way into the closest restaurant, a soba place, and headed inside. They placed their orders, with Tatsumaki splurging for her nephew and ordering him some pork cutlet and went to seat themselves in one of the small booths situated nearby. The place wasn't very big, probably just big enough to seat maybe two dozen people. So when a certain blonde haired girl walked into the restaurant with her familiar and saw all the tables full, she frowned a bit and turned to leave, that is, until she heard someone call her name near the back.

"Oi! Fate-chan! Over here!"

She turned around, but due to her height, couldn't see above the tables. "Arf?"

"A young boy over there near the back is trying to get your attention," the humanoid familiar pointed, "Fate, who is…" Yet she was left unanswered as her master made her way to the back of the eaterie until she was standing in front of said boy.

"You again," She said in a flat tone wondering if her namesake is messing with her.

"Yo. Fancy meeting you here Kinpatsu-chan," Izuku said with a wave. "Wanna join us for lunch?" He offered, moving into one side of the booth next to his aunt and their purchases and leaving the other side free for them.

Fate blinked, "You know we're enemies right?"

"Not right now, I'm not on the clock and not looking for a Jewel Seed so… meh. Are you hungry?" asked Izuku as he thought she looked a little hungry.

Fate hated how her stomach rumbled, speaking for her in that moment. Ignoring the heat gathering in her cheeks, she replied, "I could eat I suppose."

Izuku smiled, "Great! After all, you can't expect to beat me next time if you're hungry now can you neechan?"

She smirked a bit at that, knowing a challenge when she heard one. "We'll see who'll be beating who. You just got beginner's luck gaki," She reached out and pulled on his lips for emphasis. "Lu-ky!"

"Di no!" He rebutted as well as he could with his lips being pulled on.

Both Tatsumaki and Arf watched the two interact. Arf in confusion, and Tatsumaki in amusement. "Um, Fate, who is this boy?"

Still holding onto his face, Fate replied, "This is the brat who beat me to a Jewel Seed the other day."

Arf let out a growl from the back of her throat as she glared at Izuku. "So this is the brat getting in our way," She punched one fist into her open palm. "Well, we can easily take care of this problem right now! I'll just put up a barrier and then we'll…"

Arf was cut off by her master saying, "No."

"Eh, no? But Fate," The brunette complained.

Despite the fact she knew it would make things more difficult for her in the long run, Fate found herself saying, "Didn't you hear him, Arf? We're not enemies unless a Jewel Seed appears so… for now, let's get along."

"Okay, if that's what you want, Fate," Arf agreed as her hackles lowered and she got out of a combat ready stance.

"Hmph, besides it's not nice to attack the people who're buying your food, it's bad luck. Hasn't anyone ever told you that?" Tatsumaki asked Arf who let out a 'hmph' of her own as she sat down. She looked at Fate herself and continued, "It's also bad manners to attack your host, as funny as I find it."

Fate flushed when she realized she was still pulling on Izuku's face. "Sorry!" Before rapidly taking her seat.

Izuku passed the two the menus and let them look for a bit before flagging down a waitress. "Ma'am the other two people we were waiting for showed up and are ready to order."

Sure what'll ya have?" The elderly woman asked, as she poised her pen to take their order.

"Kamonaban," Arf said, practically drooling at the thought of sticking her teeth into some duck.

Fate was more hesitant, having a hard time reading the menu. "Umm, I…"

Seeing her duress Izuku said, "Need help?"

"Please," Fate said with a smile handing the menu over. "Go ahead and order anything."

'Okay well, Fate-nee is a foreigner so she might like this,' So thinking he said, "Niku korokke soba."

"Right, thanks," the waitress replied, "Your order should be right up," She told Izuku and Tatsumaki before she walked off.

Once she'd left, Fate looked over at the boy and asked, "What did you order?"

"Beef croquettes. I thought you might enjoy them. They're just meat mixed with mashed potatoes and deep fried with soba noodles."

"That sounds nice… can I ask you a question Midoriya-san?" Fate asked after a moment's pause.

"Go ahead," he prompted her as he thought, 'Victoria?'

'Yes master, umu?'

'I need you to get in touch with Fate-chan's Device. Make contact with it. I need to know her situation and help if I can,' Izuku had always been a planner at heart, and if he could he'd help Fate. If he could somehow turn it to his benefit then even better still.

'Understood Master I shall open communications…'

Fate asked her question, "Why are you searching for the Jewel Seeds?"

Izuku leaned back in his seat and sighed, "I'll tell you the same thing I told Nanoha, I'm being paid for them."

This surprised the girl. "You're a Mercenary?"

Izuku wasn't sure himself so he decided to ask a higher power, "Uhh… Auntie, are we Mercenaries?"

Tatsumaki sighed, "Technically speaking, yes."

"Cool!" was the innocently childish exclamation from her nephew.

Tatsumaki shook her head. "No, not cool."

"Not cool?" Izuku echoed, "Why not cool?"

"The difference between a Hero and a Mercenary is a very thin line, one I don't think you should be towing at such a young age," The Tornado of Terror replied. "First, you tell yourself it's just one job, then it's just one life, before you know it, your knee deep in corpses that you can no longer recognize as your fellow man."

Izuku thought about that for a moment, "Hmm, well, I'm just one person and I can't save everyone. Not everyone might even deserve to be saved even."

"Deserve? What's that mean?" asked Tastumaki, getting a slight chill at what her nephew might be thinking.

"Hmm, some villains who just go to jail, break out, then keep doing crimes, and it just repeats, so… wouldn't it just be better to just kill the villains if it means saving more lives further down the line?"

Tatsumaki sighed, this was the logic of a child, but he wasn't necessarily incorrect. "It's complicated Izuku. It's believed that people are capable of redemption"

"But it's been scien-tifically," Izuku stumbled over the word, "Proven that sending people to prison only makes them bitter and angry most of the time, not remorseful. In fact by putting criminals in with other criminals, they learn to be better at the craft of crime."

'Anything Victoria?' Izuku asked.

'A report has been established, umu,' His Device replied. 'Device Bardici is concerned for the continued safety of his master umu. Would like our cooperation to see that she is kept safe from harm.'

'Can we promise such a thing?'

'I think we can master, umu. I was cataloging your armory earlier and found something that could be of use if we grant temporary use of the magical formulae to Bardichi,' postulated Victoria.

The image of the item in question popped into Izuku's head and he was quick to agree. 'Do it, but add something else, a way to follow them if we have to.'

'Can do umu,' His Device replied. After a moment, she reported, 'It's done my master.'

'Good job Victoria,' Izuku thought sitting back as his and his Aunts' food arrived.

"Aren't you going to eat?" Fate asked when he didn't start eating his steaming bowl of food.

Izuku shook his head. "No, I'm going to wait for your food to arrive before I eat."

Fate frowned, "But your food could be cold by then."

The six-year-old-magus just smiled. "That's the thing about soba, it can be eaten hot or cold."

'He really is too kind,' Fate thought to herself. 'It makes me almost wish we didn't have to be enemies,' She shook away the thought. 'Don't kid yourself Fate, you need to get the Jewel Seeds no matter what.'

"You okay?" Izuku asked, seeing her wrestling with something heavy.

Looking him in the eye, Fate replied, "You know, this doesn't change the fact that we're enemies," Fate told him.

Izuku nodded, "I know, just like it doesn't change the fact that I beat you yesterday."

"Why you!" Arf growled half getting up only to be forced back down by Tatsumaki's psychic might. "Don't look down on Fate-chan!"

Izuku was perplexed, "Who said anything about looking down on her? I'm just stating a fact. But I did beat her yesterday. But, today's a new day, and luck might be in her favor today."

'I can only hope,' Fate thought as her and Arf's food arrived. "Itadakimasu!" She along with Izuku and Arf who spoke and clapped with more force than was necessary chimed before eating.

Arf ate with furious gusto, while Fate took her time, savoring her food. 'I really like Croquettes,' She decided as she slowly chewed the meat and spud filled confection. She tried the next bite with a bit of soba noodles and found it just as good if not better than the bite before it.

"Good?" Izuku asked, as he ate his own meal at a sedate pace.

"Yeah… it is," She replied. 'Though a part of me wishes … that I was eating here with mother right now.'

As if sensing her change of mood, Arf offered her an encouraging smile, which she returned.

Izuku smiled. "I'm glad you're enjoying the food. Good food, good company… My mom says it's the little things like these that are important."

"Is that… so," Fate said at length. She couldn't remember her own mother ever saying any such thing to her. She had memories, good ones of her mother. Showing she did act differently than now. 'I just need to collect the Jewel Seeds and everything can go back to the way they were.'

"Yen for your thoughts?" Izuku asked after a moment.

Fate shook her head. "It's nothing."

"Thinking about the Jewel Seeds again?" Izuku guessed. "Your mom must want them really badly for some reason."

"She does," Fate replied.

Izuku nodded as he drank the broth in his bowl before asking, "Any idea why? She wants the Jewel Seeds I mean?"

"I…" Fate paused. "I don't actually know. I never bothered to ask. I just want her to be happy."

Izuku nodded. "Yeah I get that," He paused before saying, "You know that between you, Nanoha, and I, the chances of anyone getting all of the Jewel Seeds is basically zero right?"

Fate grimaced. Izuku, despite being three years her junior, was quite the realist. She knew he wasn't wrong of course, with three people searching for the same objects, the chances of any of them coming on top and collecting the entire set was abysmally low. 'The best I could hope for would be to get seven. Mother won't be happy with that.'

'Master' Victoria commented. 'I've detected a Jewel Seed nearby, umu.'

'Where?' Izuku asked, keeping his face blank.

'Scanners indicate it's behind the restaurant umu,' His Device informed him.

Izuku scooted out of the booth, "Excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom."

He made his way towards the restrooms only to sneak through the kitchens and out the back. Then in the alleyway near the garbage, he saw it. An unactivated Jewel Seed being approached by a rat with wings known as the common seagull. Knowing what happened the last time an animal touched one of them, he quickly scared it off and pocketed before making his way back inside.

Upon sitting down he said, "Hey Fate, after this would you mind coming to the park with me for a little bit?"

The girl blinked, "I don't mind, but why?"

"You'll see when we get there," He promised, turning to his Aunt he said, "Auntie, do you think you can get the bags back to the hotel on your own?"

"No, but not because I can't, but because I'm not leaving you by yourself with them," Tatsumaki replied not even bothering to sugarcoat her words as she looked right at the two.

"Auntie… fine. But I'm not carrying the bags this time," Izuku said stubbornly when he realized no argument would get his aunt to listen to him.

Tatsumaki just rolled her eyes as she smirked. 'Kids.'

Due to it being spring, the park was verdant and full of life. Trees were in bloom, people were playing with their pets, and having the occasional picnic. All in all, it was a peaceful scene that Izuku, Tatsumaki, Fate and Arf arrived upon. Heading to the middle of the park, Izuku asked "Fate, Do you think you could put up a barrier?"

"Sure, no problem," Looking at her familiar, she said. "Arf?"

The redhead nodded and snapped her fingers, and the world took on a sepia, hue with the humans and their pets disappearing from the new reality that formed. Leaving only Izuku and the others in its place. Locking her dark brown eyes with the young boy, Fate asked, "Izuku what is all this about?"

In response, Izuku pulled the Jewel Seed he had found earlier, out of his pants pocket. "I found this on my way to the bathroom. I thought you might be interested in it."

Fate quirked an eyebrow In suspicion. "You're just going to give it to me?"

Izuku shook his head. "No. But I was hoping we could solve this non-violently."

Arf growled in response, "Just hand over the Jewel Seed, and you won't get hurt brat."

Only for Fate to raise a hand, And respond with, "What did you have in mind?"

Looking at his aunt, Izuku asked, "Auntie do you have any change?"

Tatsumaki blinked uncomprehendingly for a replied, "Yeah. I think so. Why?" She asked even as she handed over a hundred yen coin.

Izuku with a cool and calm expression responded by bracing the coin between his thumb and index finger, saying. "We're going to settle this via coin flip."

There was a moment of everyone stared at the young boy, and then Tatsumaki broke it by saying, "Are you an idiot?"

Izuku shook his head. "No, I think this is fair," He looked at the blonde girl. What do you think, Fate?"

Said girl blinked several times, before nodding. "OK."

Izuku smiled. "Great! Call it," He said as he flipped the corn in the air.

As the coin reached the zenith of its spin. Fate called, "Heads."

Tatsumaki floated over as Izuku caught the placed it on the back of his opposite hand. Izuku turned it over, and smiled. "Looks like it's my loss today, you win."

He tossed her the Jewel Seed without any further complaint and before his aunt could speak up. He then waved goodbye and turned around. As he walked away,"See you around," He said. As he walked out of the park. Leaving her there, holding the Jewel Seed in her cupped palms, with a small smile on her face. Izuku meanwhile, picked up his aunts and his shopping bags and left the park.

His aunt caught up with him near the exit. Putting a hand on his shoulder, she asked, "What was that about? We both know that the coin landed on tails."

Izuku just shrugged, saying, "She looked like she needed the win. That's all."

Tatsumaki sputtered "I… Huh … what…. are you serious? She's the enemy, you know? You're being too nice!"

"Auntie," Izuku said with her pause, "It's got nothing to do with me being nice. Haven't you ever played the game called Risk?" Seeing his aunt's clueless stare, he elaborated, "Bakugo and I used to play it all the time. It had to do with taking over foreign countries, and taking over the world. I got so good at it, that I would intentionally take disadvantageous positions and work my way out from there. What I'm trying to say is, that I'm playing the long game, not the short game. Sometimes, in order to do that, you have to be willing to sacrifice small pieces to make big gains."

The Tornado of Terror's brow knit in concentration as she realized Just how cunning her nephew was, "You planned this. You're planning all of this. But, just what are you planning to do?"

Izuku smiled like the Cheshire cat, "Win."

That worried Tatsumaki even more, for she didn't know what exactly Izuku was planning to do. She only hoped whatever it was, it wouldn't come back to bite them both.

Nanoha Takamichi was excited. Class would be out soon, and she could go see her adorable little kōhai. 'I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait,' she thought. Practically, bouncing in her seat as she eagerly watched the clock move ever closer to three in the afternoon. When the final bell finally rang, she was the first person out of the classroom. By the time Alisa and Sakara had made it to their car, Nanoha was already clad in her barrier jacket, and shooting across the skies. Speaking with her Device through telepathy, she said "Raising Heart, can you get in contact with Izuku and ask him what hotel he's staying in?"

"Alright," Raising Heart replied, cheerful as ever. It took her a few moments to get a response from Victoria Nobilis. The device then happy replied, " Izuku is staying on the fifth floor of the Fiat Hotel In room 526, my master."

"Yosh! Ok thanks, Raising Heart," Nanoha replied gratefully. As she took off towards the hotel.

Once she found the hotel, Raising Heart had to direct her to the proper room. Peeking inside the window, she found her kōhai, and his small, but scary aunt, putting away clothes. She tapped playfully on the glass, wanting to see their reaction when they found her at the window. She watched as Tatsumaki said something to her kōhai. Then he walked over to the window and opened it, saying, "Hello senpai, Nice to see you here."

She pouted a bit, saying, "Awe, you're no fun Tatsumaki-san."

Tatsumaki huffed, As she crossed her arms, "And I don't like people creeping at my windows on the fifth floor girl. If you want to see Izuku naked that badly, I'm sure his mother can show you baby pictures."

"EH?!" Both children cried out of embarrassment. Their faces turned tomato red at the insinuation.

I-I didn't… I don't," Nanoha denied, a tongue tied stuttering mess.

"I don't even think my mom has baby pictures of me," Izuku pondered aloud, before he mumbled.,"Or at least, I hope she doesn't."

"Umu, shouldn't master be getting on with things? Umu!" Victoria Nobilis commented.

"Right," Izuku replied. Looking his senpai in the eye, he said, "Do you want the good news or the bad news first?"

Nanoha frowned upon hearing that, but said, "The bad news?"

Hanging his head in shame, Izuku said, "I had a jewel seed… But I lost it to Fate."

"In a coin flip, which was your idea, don't forget that bit," Tatsumaki added, making sure her nephew left out none of the details.

Izuku sighed, "I haven't Auntie, thank you for reminding me."

Nanoha cocked her head to the side in confusion. "Why a coin flip?"

Raising his head, Izuku was quick to explain. "I would prefer to solve things nonviolently if at all possible."

'My kōhai is a good person,' Nanoha thought to herself. She glanced around the room, absentmindedly taking it in. It was a typical hotel room. Dark green carpet, bland white walls, with an AC unit hooked up to the one wall next to the window. Two beds which were facing a chester drawer on which a TV sat. Lastly, there was a door off to the side that Nanoha assumed led to the ensuite bathroom.

Deciding to take the initiative, and cheer him up from his earlier loss she said, "Would you like to come to my house for dinner tonight? We are having a hot pot."

Izuku looked to his aunt for affirmation. Tatsumaki shrugged, before saying, "Do we need to bring anything for the hot pot?"

Nanoha replied nervously, "You don't have to if you don't want to. You're guests after all."

Tatsumaki and Izuku looked at one another and nodded. "We'll bring something," they said in unison.

"Great!" Nanoha cheered, happy her Impromptu plan had worked. "I'll let my parents know you're coming," She whipped out her phone and sent a quick text to her father.

[Papa, do you mind if we have hot pot tonight?] Nanoha inquired.

Shirō was quick to respond, [I don't mind, but why tonight?]

Now came the hard part for the young girl, [Well, Izuku and his aunt are coming over and they're kind of expecting it…]

[Hahaha I see. I'll let your mother know. We wouldn't want to leave a bad impression on your boyfriend.]

This prompted a furious reply from her. [He's not my boyfriend, Papa!]

[Of course not honey. So, we'll see them around six then?] Shirō asked.

"Is six o'clock OK?" Nanoha asked.

Tatsumaki nodded, "That should be fine. It will let us do a quick sweep for jewel seeds and stop by the store."

[That's fine, we'll be there by six.] Nanoha replied to her father, before she put her phone away and giving a strained smile she said, "Let's go look for some Jewel Seeds, shall we?"

Standing atop a skyscraper, Fate and Arf prepared to go back home to the Garden of Time. The familiar pranced back and forth nervously from foot to foot as she knew what would happen to her master if she returned with only one jewel seed.

"Fate," She said, after a moment's pause. "You know how she is going to react… Don't you?"

"Yes," Fate said, sounding resigned. Even as she incanted, "Dimensional teleportation. Coordinates, Garden of Time."

A golden yellow magic circle appeared beneath the two's feet. Moments before they disappeared from this plane of existence.

When they reappeared, it was in a different place altogether. In a castle that existed between the space of worlds. In imaginary space. The Garden of Time. It was here that Fate Testarossa's mother, Precia Testarossa, ruled with an iron fist. As Fate walked the marbled halls, a growing sense of trepidation grew within her stomach. For she knew her mother, despite how much she loved her. Fate knew how she would react, once she returned with only a single jewel seed. 'I just need to do better next time,' she thought to herself as she knocked on the door to her mother's chambers.

"Enter," A cold feminine voice called.

Fate did so, leaving Arf out in the hall. Not seeing her familiar slumped down to her knees. Knowing what was going to happen to her master.

The throne room was opulent as ever. Blue marble spires held up the roof on either side. The roof itself was domed, and had a fresco of God creating Adam in the Garden of Eden painted up above. Fate always wondered about the why, and the reason for that, but didn't dwell on it. She always had more important things to do. Her mother sat at the end of the room. On her throne, as always.

Precia Testarossa was an intimidating woman. Cold, aloof, alluring, and beautiful but most of all to Fate unreachable. No matter how hard she tried. The woman stared at her daughter impassively, upon her throne. Like one would stare at an insect. After a moment of silence. She spoke, "Well, what have you brought me? I trust your mission has been successful."

Fate bowed her head in supplication to her mother As she unsealed the single jewel seed in her possession from the depths of Bardichi. "I apologize, mother," She began, even as Precia's shadow loomed over her. "But it seems I am not the only one who's after the jewel seeds."

Fate didn't even flinch, when the blow struck her across the face. The pain she was expecting and able to stand. The guilt at disappointing her mother that came with this pain Fate could never get used to.

"You stupid useless child. SMACK I gave you a simple job SMACK and you come back with only a single jewel seed SMACK?!" Precia raged, wrath flashing in her eyes like lightning in a thunderstorm as she struck the thing before her.

"I apologize, mother," Fate said again, Mechanically monotonously. Her body automatically tensed as Prussia turned her wand into a whip.

"Clearly," Precia said as she levitated Fate into the air with magic, "I have been too lenient with you. I must reinforce the fact that I need the jewel seeds soon."

Fate clenched her teeth, waiting for the blow that never came. Instead, the sounds of something hitting the floor was heard. Also a voice. That neither Fate or Precia had heard before rang out in the dark of the room.

"I know what you're looking for, Precia Testarossa. I know what it is you really want, and I would be willing to help you," was what the ominous man intoned as his voice reverberated across the room.

Precia looked down at the destroyed whip that was once her wand, before calling out into her throne room. "Who's there? Come out, show yourself coward!"

"I suppose I can indulge you that much," The specter replied as he stepped out from behind one of the pillars that was holding up the room.

He was tall, With dark black skin and lanky red hair. Garbed in nothing but a white cloak that was torn and tattered. His eyes were an odd blue and seemed to be staring right into Precia's soul.

"Who are you?" Precia found herself asking as she stared at the man.

"I am someone who knows what it's like to lose everything. Someone who….could empathize with you quite a bit. So I've decided to help you of my own volition," spoke the man solemnly.

"Bullshit," Precia cursed, "No one does anything out of the kindness of their own heart. You want something. What is it?"

"There is a boy. Younger than your own child here. I want him…. To suffer," was the ominous demand the man gave. Fate felt her stomach drop at what this man may want with Izuku.

Precia didn't particularly care for the suffering of a single child, but she still found herself asking. "Why?"

In response, the man raised his arms to the heavens as if in a sermon showing he did not have arms at all, but instead two white snakes for appendages. "Because my dear," he spoke in solemn tones. "It is only through suffering. That we grow. And it is only through growth, that we may challenge even the heavens themselves."

Precia absorbed that silently for a moment. Before she asked, " I still don't know how you're going to benefit from me helping you, or even your name."

"As to how I will benefit you, I will simply even the odds," Waving one of his Serpentine limbs along the floor a runic array appeared, with the jewel seed in the middle.

Then something behind his back flashed out in a Crimson blur, and Fate found herself falling to the floor, her bonds cut. He motioned her forward with a Serpentine limb. "Come child, come and you shall witness jewel seeds potential yet."

Fate stepped forward, hesitant and unsure. The only thing she was certain of is wanting to please her mother. Thus she asked. "What do I need to do?"

"Merely run your magical energy into the circle. It will do the rest," The man spoke.

Fate did just that, and the crimson circle turned blood red, then gold. As it grew in fever and pitch and power the glow of the circle started to cover the entire room. Blinding all inhabitants except one. Then there was a flash of light. And when it cleared, a golden haired man was standing there ax in hand, nice sunglasses over his eyes, with an open white shirt that showed off his toned physique and brown bell bottom jeans on his legs.

"Golden," he said by way of introduction.

"Who is this?" Precia asked. Not at all impressed by the summoning.

The man, by contrast, was amused at exactly who had been summoned "Sakata Kintoki of all people? Unexpected but acceptable."

"Who?" Fate found herself asking.

"Eh? Don't tell me you've never heard of the four Guardian generals, Master," The Golden Man seemed put out by the fact that his master didn't know who he was, even though someone else had known his name.

Fate bowed in apology. "I'm sorry I don't know much about Earth's history even less so from Japan as I can guess from your accent."

Kintoki waved her off, "It's fine, it's fine. I can educate you about it later. That would be golden. Anyway, little master," he continued giving her the biggest grin he could muster, "What's the job?"

"Your duty," Precia took over at this point, "Is to collect all Twenty-one of the jewels seeds."

"Oi, oba-san, I wasn't talking to you," Kintoki drawled causing Precia to scowl at what she assumed was just another familiar.

"Kintoki, That's my mother. Please be respectful." Fate requested.

"Your Kaa-san eh?" The servants said mostly to himself as he looked her over, not liking the cold glare she was sending his master. 'Then again, my ma was a cannibal witch, And I was taught manners by Raikou of all people. So what do I know?' Kintoki thought to himself. Giving Precia another once over. He decided to second guess his first assessment. 'I know a bad rogue when I smell it and she smells bad. Better keep a close eye on her around the master.'

He nodded, accepting his orders with a flippant air, "Right fancy jewelry? Got it. We're golden."

Precia ignored the servant for a moment and fixed her eyes on the still unknown man. An oddity to be sure. "OK, so you've provided us some I still don't know your name."

The strange man just smiled sagaciously and said, "You may call me Tenma Yato."

Two and a half hours, and a lot of scouring later, and the trio had yet to come up with any Jewel Seeds. Seeing the children downtrodden, With shoulders hunched, didn't sit well with Tatsumaki. So she clapped her hands together to get their attention, and said "Alright, you brats, I think it's time we called it a night. First though we need to head to the store. After all, it's considered rude manners to show up to a hot pot and not bring something for it."

That got the children smiling. Tatsumaki did her best to keep up with them without using her powers as they raced towards the store.

They left soon after, with Nanoha glancing occasionally at the plastic bag Tatsumaki was holding in her arms. "Are you sure it's ok to spend that much?" She asked at length.

The diminutive Esper just waved her off. "It's fine, it's fine. It's a hot pot, after all," She said.

"OK, if you're sure," Nanoha replied. "I know my parents are going to be surprised when we put that in the hot pot," She nodded towards the contents of the bag as she spoke.

Yeah. Well, I wanted to make a good impression," Tatsumaki admitted at length.

"Will definitely be making an impression with that, Tatsumaki-san," the young mage assured her as she led the way to her family home.

"Oh wow," Izuku said as he stood in front of the front gate of the Takamachi family abode. "It's really big."

The home was a traditional Japanese style Dojo that had been converted into a house. As Nanoha's Ancestors were swordsmanship masters, and this place was where they both practiced, and taught their craft to others. The abode was longer than it was tall. Covered by glossy shingles on the roof, and bordered by a white stucco wall, with a thick wooden door that served as the sole entry point into the property.

Upon going past the entrance. Izuku noted it had a porch that wrapped all the way around the property, and was covered by glossy wood, sliding doors, and other traditional Japanese furnishings. Nanoha raced ahead and pulled the front door open, calling inside. "Momma, Papa, I'm home! I brought Izuku-kun and his auntie."

"Oh hey there," Nanoha was greeted by her older brother, Kyoya. His dark brown hair was stuck up in its usual cowlick on the left and covering his eyebrow on the right side, prompting Nanoha to wonder if he ever brushed his hair in the mornings. "Oniisan, You're back from college?" Nanoha said surprised.

Kyoya put his hands on his waist showing he'd become even more muscular since Nanoha had seen him last, "Well, when Mom said you had a boyfriend, we just had to come home, and see it with our own eyes," Kyoya jokes, causing his little sister to blush cherry red as she tries to stutter out a reply.

"Izuku-kun is not my boyfriend, Kyoya-nii!" Nanoha denied vehemently, while stamping her foot on the floor.

Kyoya was forced into bow by his sister Miyuki, her black hair as ever in a long plait, she chastised while smiling, "Now, now, don't tease Nanoha so much about her little crush. You can't go scaring him off before we get to meet the apple of our little sister's eye."

"Not you too Miyuki-nee!" Nanoha said as she cried anime tears.

It was then that her mother Momoko came to the rescue bopping both of her elder children on the head with a ladle as she said, "Stop teasing your younger sister. You'll embarrass us in front of our guests, and that won't do, now will it?"

Izuku and Tatsumaki, who arrived shortly before the Takamachi matriarch Izuku said politely, "Pardon the intrusion."

But Momoko just waved the two off, saying, "No worries, no worries. You're welcome here. Come in, come in. Make yourselves at home. I didn't get to greet you yesterday. I am Momoko Takamachi. Nice to meet you."

"You as well," Tatsumaki greeted in return, before handing her the package she got from the store and saying, "I brought something for the hot pot. I hope that's okay?"

"Oh, you shouldn't have," Momoko cooed. "We owe you too much already for looking after Nanoha for us."

Tatsumaki looked away as she replied, "It's no problem, though, I freely admit I'm not the best with kids."

"Well, Nanoha doesn't look hurt nor does she look depressed or scared so you must be doing fine," Momoko told Tatsumaki encouragingly as she took the package into the kitchen where the hot pot was already cooking. "Would you like some tea?" she called the question out to her guests.

"Please," Tatsumaki called out in return. Looking at her nephew, she said, "Go have fun, and try not to break anything."

"Sure Auntie," Izuku said with a little chuckle, as he looked at Nanoha expectantly.

"Right, let's go to my room," She decided after a moment's pause.

"Oh, going to her room? How bold of her," Kyoya commented.

While Miyuki playfully called after them, "Be sure to leave your door open Nanoha-chan!"

The only response she got was the sound of her door being pulled closed with an audible *snap*.

"I think we might have gone too far, with the teasing," Miyuki said after a moment of poignant silence.

"You might be right about that," Kyoya agreed as they stood out there in the awkward silence they had created between themselves and their little sister.

"You two get in here and quit teasing Nanoha," Shirō's voice called from within the house.

"Coming father," The two elder Takamichi children replied, banishing thoughts of their sister from their minds for the moment.

Izuku had never been inside a girls room before, but his first thought was. 'It's so lacy.'

Everything in Nanoha's room was covered in lace. The hem of her pink pastel pillows, her bedspread, the hem of her curtains. The carpet of her floor was white and she had a desk next to her bed that had a pillow stuffed basket in it, in which a yellow coated ermine was staring at him curiously.

Izuku was like, "Oh, you have a 's his name?"

Nanoha smiled at the small creature, saying, "This is Yunno-kun. He's not my pet though."

Izuku was confused, "If he's not your pet then what is he?"

Izuku suddenly felt a pervasive force invading his mind, like a slimy tentacle being stuck in his ear. When he tried to force it out, it withdrew immediately. The ermine looked to Nanoha, And she quickly translated. "Yunno-kun, apologizes. He didn't mean to scare you. He was just trying to communicate."

"That was him?" Izuku Questioned only for the ermine a nod in understanding.

Nanoha proceeded to translate again. "Yuuno-kun would like to try again, with your permission."

"Can't he just talk like a normal person?" Izuku questioned, not wanting another person inside of his mind. Outside of Victoria Nobilis, of course. The mental nudge of affection he felt from his device comforted Izuku.

Nanoha looked at the ermine for an answer. Before she eventually said, "Yunno said it would be too dangerous if someone heard him talking, and there's only the two of us here."

Izuku sighed, He never could tell a girl no. "Alright, fine but he better not try to dig into my head or anything," he warned, Giving the furred animal a stern look, prompting a quiver from said animal before it shook its head.

Again, Izuku felt the tentacle slithering through his mind. This time he didn't fight it and let it make contact with the center of his being. When it did, he felt the tendril settle and a voice came through on the other end saying, "Can you hear me Midoriya-san?"

Izuku blinked once, then twice. Then he said, "Oh, wow, he really can talk."

"I can indeed," The ermine replied, "My name is Yuuno Scrya, And I am searching for the jewel seeds. Nanoha is helping me."

"So she doesn't want the Jewel Seeds. You want the Jewel Seeds? What do you want the Jewel Seeds for?" asked Izuku wondering if his new friend is being manipulated by an outside force for the Jewel seeds. Oh the irony.

"I could ask you the same question," Yuuno rebutted as he sent the boy a hard look.

"Yuuno-kun, be nice," Nanoha reprimanded.

"Sorry, sorry," Yuuno replied, looking away for a moment, "But I really do want to know what you want them for. Lost Logia are dangerous, you know?"

Izuku nodded. It wasn't a secret as far as he was concerned. "I'm being paid for them. I am being paid to collect the jewel seeds," He looked at Nanoha for a moment before he continued, "I told Nanoha-senpai this the other day. I thought she would have mentioned this."

"She did," Yuuno affirmed, "I just had a hard time believing that someone would send a six-year-old boy to collect a Lost Logia."

"Nanoha-senpai is only three years older than me, and that makes it ok?" The young boy questioned in rebuttal.

Both the ermine and the young girl fell quiet at that, for they couldn't refute his claim. They both knew what they were doing was dangerous and borderlines stupid, but they both had their reasons for doing it. Nanoha was searching for a purpose. Yuuno meanwhile, was incapable of acting in the capacity of a master and properly using Raising Heart. They needed each other for their own reasons. The two's relationship was one of symbiosis. A desire to help and need to be helped, from which a friendship has sprung.

"Um, anyway," Nanoha has said to break up the awkward tension that had arisen in the air from Izuku's own question. "What type of magic do you know, Izuku-kun?"

It was then that Victoria Nobilis stepped in. "I will answer this question on your behalf if you allow me to master, umu."

"Go ahead, Victoria," Izuku replied, prompting his Device to speak.

The device did just that beginning. By introducing herself. My name is Victoria Nobilis. I am Izuku- donos Device. Hello again, Raising Heart-senpai."

"Hello kōhai. Please begin with your presentation," Raising Heart prompted.

"Yes, umu. Master uses what is known as Modern Childan. It combines the ancient Belkan systems' use of the cartridge system, and Midchildans' use of an Intelligent Device like myself and Raising Heart-senpai, into a single cohesive magical system, umu."

"What does the cartridge system do, Victoria Nobilis-san?" Nanoha found herself asking.

"Umu, Through the expenditure of magical bullets, it allows for the strengthening of one's magical attacks. At the expense of causing more wear and tear upon the Intelligent Device."

Izuku was immediately concerned, "Should I be worried about this?"

"No, Master I was built to last, umu," Victoria Nobilis told him confidently with pride practically beaming from her voice.

"Izuku-san," Yuuno said, getting his attention, "I need to know if you're on our side or not."

"If by 'on your side' you mean get the Jewel Seeds before Fate-san does, then yes," Izuku confirmed. "Other than that, I'm on no one's side but my own."

"Why you…" Yuuno half growled only to be shushed by Nanoha placing a hand on his back.

"No fighting here, we're all friends," She said, trying to placate Yuuno. She decided to quickly change the topic, asking, "Izuku-kun, besides this, what do you do for fun?"

"I collect… figurines. Mainly those based on superheroes," He hedged not wanting to bring up his world and quirks. Also the fact that he wasn't even from this dimension.

Nanoha's eyes brightened in understanding "Oh, like Super Sentai? No wonder you understood Alicia-san's pain the other day when she talked about her Barbie doll."

"Yeah, some of them can be really expensive and worth a lot of money," Izuku shyly admitted, afraid to let his nerd flag fly in front of a girl after so many years of mocking and ridicule. "So for them to be torn apart like that… It hurts me on a physical and spiritual level," Izuku shivered as he remembered how Bakugou "tested" his quirk on some of Izuku's figures.

"Huh," Nanoha said after staring at him for a moment. "Izuku-kun is young, but in a lot of ways, he's a lot more mature than me."

The boy was thrown for a loop. He didn't expect his senpai to say something like that. "Huh?"

The girl nodded. As if an affirmation of what she just said. "It's true," she remarked. "You're younger than me. But I can tell you're already better at magic, and you cherish the things you have."

"You have something I don't, though," Izuku noted.

"What's that?" Nanoha asked, cocking her head to the side in a manner Izuku found cute.

The young magus was quick to answer, "Friends," Izuku said simply. "I don't really have any of those my own age back home, and you have two."

Nanoha looked down abashed. "It's funny you should say that. Since, a lot of the time, I feel like a third wheel in a two person friendship. I'm kind of looking for friends, and a purpose of my own."

Izuku blinked, closed his eyes, took a breath, and said, "Nanoha, would you like to be my friend?"

Tears came to the young girl's eyes unbidden as she rapidly nodded, "Uh-huh.I mean, yes, yes, I really would! I-I would really like that, Izuku-kun!" 'I've got a friend! He's a boy, but he's still my very own friend! So Nanoha is counting it!' She thought excitedly. Without really thinking about it, she broke Japanese etiquette and threw her arms around the boy, gripping him in a tight hug and whispering as she squeezed him, "Thank you so much for this."

Izuku froze like a statue for a moment, before gently returning the hug. "You're welcome," he replied, pausing a moment before, "But do I have to keep calling you senpai?"

"Nanoha-san is fine, I suppose," She said in a jokingly disappointed manner.

"How about Nanoha-chan?" The young, oblivious boy offered as a compromise, unknowingly causing his companion to blush and stutter.

"N-No, no. san is fine. 'For now,' a small rebellious voice in the back of her mind said to her.

Accepting that without any further complaint. He asked his own question. "What did you use to do before you started gathering magical artifacts of enormous and terrible power?"

"Well," Nanoha paused for a moment to think, "I like to read manga and watch anime. Mainly they were about magical girls, funnily enough."

"Well, now you're living it. How does that compare to the manga?" Izuku asked after a moment.

The brown haired girl gave a tired sigh, "It's a lot more dangerous and difficult than they make it look," She then smiled. "But I am enjoying myself quite a bit."

"So am I, though this is my first time doing this kind of thing," Izuku admitted. "Nanoha, I'll make a deal with you," Izuku began.

"Deal? What kind of deal?" The young girl wondered.

"You just want to collect the jewel seeds, right? You have no other purpose for doing so. Other than the fact that Yuuno-san is asking you to, right?" Seeing her nod, Izuku continued, "Then how about, after we collect them, you give them to me? Since I actually have a reason to collect them all."

"Nanoha!" Yuuno warned, "You can't trust him! We don't know who he's going to give the Lost Logia to! They need to be turned over to the Time-Space Administration Bureau, and no one else."

"The Who?" Both children questioned at the same time.

"The Time-Space Administration Bureau,"Yuuno explained, "It's their job to monitor, collect, and contain Lost Logia, and other objects that might mess with the timestream, and dimensions."

"Why didn't you mention this before?" Nanoha asked, perplexed. This seemed like a very important group to communicate with all things considered.

The ermine looked away embarrassed. "I currently have no way of contacting them."

Izuku sighed, "So you don't want to hand them over to me, but you have no way of contacting the proper authorities to hand them over to them either? At least I have an actual option here."

"He's got a point, Yuuno-kun," Nanoha admitted. "I can collect the jewel seeds, but what's the point if I can't do anything with them after I collect them all?"

The ermine knew he was beat, and so hung his head in defeat. "I suppose you have a point," He then looked at Izuku sharply and asked, "Can you promise me you're not going to hand them over to some kind of villain?"

The boy paused before saying. "I don't think Koyanskya is a villain. Weird? Yes, villain? No."

Yuuno paused before looking at Nanoha, "What do you think?" He asked.

Nanoha looked at Izuku for a long, hard moment, before finally saying, "I think we should trust Izuku-kun's judgment."

The young boy smiled, showing the dimples on his cheeks, "Thank you for trusting me, Nanoha-san, Yuuno-san."

'He's so cute!' The girl raged inside of her head. 'I just want to give him another hug. But I shouldn't… But you want to… But I shouldn't… But you really, really want to, don't you?' In the end, the little voice in the back of her head telling her what she wanted to do won out over the one telling her what she shouldn't do, and Nanoha has found herself embracing Izuku again.

"Nanoha?" Izuku asked questioningly as he was again brought into a warm and loving hug.

"Izuku-kun," She said contentedly. "Can we just stay like this for a little bit?"

Gently wrapping his arms around her as she tucked his head under her chin, he said "Sure, I don't mind."

For the first time in a long while, Nanoha Takamachi was content. She had a friend, a purpose. and a reason to do what she was doing, and right now, she was holding that friend rather close, and it just felt right. She felt however briefly what could be described as bliss…

But it was not to last.

"Nanoha, Izuku, dinner is ready!" Momoko called.

Nanoha let out a slightly annoyed breathy sigh before she called back, "We'll be right there." She said she continued in a little whisper, half burying her head in his green mop of hair, "We should probably go, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess so," Izuku replied, "Or… We could stay like this for just a little longer?"

Even though she could, even though he couldn't see it, Izuku felt her smile. "I was hoping you'd say that."

Momoko, who had just finished putting the final bits of food on the table, was about to call for the kids again, when they appeared in the kitchen. Smiling happily as children want to do. She beamed at them. "There, you two are, and just in time for dinner. Are you getting along?"

Nanoha nodded happily, "Yeah, I think Izuku-kun and I are going to be great friends."

Momoko was happy to hear that. She didn't know for sure, but she had a gut feeling. Call it mothers Intuition, that her daughter was slightly sad. What with her and her husband working long hours at the bakery, and both of her elder siblings off at college. 'It's nice to see her smiling more genuinely again,' Momoko thought to herself. As she watched her young daughter lead the small boy to the dining room table.

Izuku's Aunt Tatsumaki was already sitting at the table. Watching the news on the television. When she saw her nephew, she smirked, "You two weren't doing anything….naughty, were you?"

"Quit it Auntie, Girls are gross," was Izuku's immediate reply to her question, sticking his tongue out.

Nanoha looked at him and pouted cutely, "Gross am I? Well maybe I won't help you after all, hmph!" She crossed her arms and looked away from him.

Nanoha's older brother, Kyoya, came to the fretting younger boy's rescue. "Don't be so harsh on him, sis. He's not at that age yet where he could appreciate the value of a woman. Just give him a few years, okay?"

Miyaka couldn't help but add, "You're really not making him not look like your boyfriend by acting like this, you know?"

"Shut up both of you," Nanoha muttered under her breath, her scowl making her look even cuter than before.

"S-Sorry, when I said girls, I didn't mean you," Izuku cursed the fact that his stutter had returned the worst possible time. "Y-You really aren't, like all the other girls I know." 'Since all the other girls I know treat me like something nasty they stepped in. Well, Fate doesn't. But I don't know if she counts nor that girl I saved. Honestly though she was probably still panicking.'

Momoko clapped her hands together."Ok, everyone, it's time to eat," She then pulled the lid off the hot pot that was set in the middle of the table. While everyone else had their own bowls filled with rice next to their own seat.

The inside of the hot pot was filled with boiling miso soup, potatoes, carrots, and pieces of fish. Yet every now and then, you would see a chunk of delicious looking beef floating to the top of the pot. Upon seeing it, Miyaka questioned, "Mother, is that?"

"Yes," Momoko confirmed, nodding her head respectfully in Tatsumaki's direction. "Our guest was kind enough to bring Wagyu beef."

The small Esper just smiled "It's my way of saying thank you for letting me use your daughter as a guide for a bit."

"We are very grateful for your generosity," Shirō said, clapping his hands together with his family mimicking his action.

The telekinetic waved off his thanks like water off a duck's back, "Think nothing of it. Besides, if we keep talking like this. It's going to get cold."

"Itadakimasu!" Everyone said before they dug into the meal. Some were almost fighting over the beef. This night in the Takamachi household, the family seemingly grew by two. The familial warmth increased by just a little bit.

However, Fate's own familial bonds had also increased… And on the morrow, both would be tested against one another.
