Elizabeth sat with a couple her friends from High School, Lily and Ashley, at the bar she worked at part time while she went to school.
"You literly put your brother in jail for stealing his own stuff." Lily said. Elizabeth was sipping her soda and nodded.
"Of course. Elisa came to me and told me what happened. It happens." Elizabeth said.
"You always were the good one of the two of you." Ashley said.
"Coming from the girl that had a crush on him through high school. Fox almost beat you up over that." Elizabeth said.
"And now she's in jail for holding a gun to your head with those monsters on the pics." Lily said. Elizabeth shrugged.
"They didn't seem harmless, but Fox had it coming." Elizabeth said, avoiding bringing up the Gargoyles. Her and Elisa were still having issues convincing Goliath to move to the new home they had planned to move the Gargoyles. Her brother was going to be out in two weeks and she was worried for their safety.
"Hey. Isn't that your brothers butler." Lily said, looking towards the tv. Elizabeth turned to see a picture of Owen on the TV and the news anchor talking about gang stealing a shipment from Xanatos Emprise.
"What are you up to now, David." Elizabeth whispered.
"Does he ever smile?" Lily asked, pulling Elizabeth away from the tv.
"No." Elizabeth said, grabbing a motzerella stick and taking a bite.
After some time with her friends she headed to Elisa's house. She put a dish down for Cagney as she heard the door open and Elisa came in hanging up her jacket and gun.
"Hey Elisa. You missed the hangout with old friends." Elizabeth said.
"Didn't miss much I hope?" Elisa said, coming over.
"Nope. I heard my brother got robbed." Elizabeth said.
"Yeah I think Tony Dracon is behind it." Elisa said. Elizabeth heard about the gang leader from news. "Not hanging with Brooklyn tonight?"
"Nah. He's on partrol with Lexington tonight since I was hanging with Lily and Ashley. Ashley still has a crush on my brother." Elizabeth said. Elisa chuckled.
"Not surprised. Gonna jump in the shower. Feel free to the food." Elisa said. Elizabeth looked in the fridge as Elisa headed to the bathroom. She heard a window open and looked to see Broadway come in.
"Hi Liz. Where's Elisa?" Broadway asked.
"In the bathroom. You hungry?" Elizabeth asked.
"Yes." Broadway said, rubbing his stomach.
"I'll throw on some steaks. Get comfortable. Brooklyn and Lexington still on partrol?" Elizabeth asked as she grabbed the steaks from the fridge.
"Not sure. I was watching the Western movie at the theater." Broadway said, earning a laugh from Elizabeth. Broadway looked around and noticed Elisa's gun on the coat rack. He grabbed it and looked at it. "Cool." He played around with it and started pointing it around. "Let's go, Pilgrim and don't forget the horse." Broadway jumped around and Elizabeth didn't notice him. He pointed towards her and suddenly the gun went off. He jumped. "ooh." He dropped the gun. "Sorry. My fault. I was playing with the gun, stupid of me. Hope I didn't break anything." He goes to pick up the gun, but stops. There was silence. "Liz?" Broadway didn't see her. He went around the counter and saw her laying on the ground, bood was coming out of her. "No." A door bursts open and Elisa runs in.
"I heard a gunshot what hap... Elizabeth. What happened?" Elisa said, looking at Broadway.
"I..." Broadway said, not sure how he wanted to explain to her. Elisa knelt next to her.
"She's badly hurt. Broadway. Get her to the hospital. Your faster. Go." Elisa said. Elisa suspected Dracon came in and thought Elizabeth was her or targeted her to silence David. Broadway hesitated, but he knew his friend was in need of help. Broadway picked Elizabeth off and ran towards the window and flew off.
He flew till he saw the hospital with an ambulance and bed sitting out by the door. He landed and laid Elizabeth on the bed. He gasped when he saw the blood on his hands. He heard talking and quickly disappeared into the shadows. The Emts saw Elizabeth laying on the cot and run to her. They checked her.
"What in." One said.
"She's been shot." The other said. One feels for a pulse.
"I can't get a pulse!" The one says. The other puts a towel on where the blood was coming from.
"Get her inside stat!" The other says as the two rush her into the hospital. Broadway makes sure she is gone. He took off, not wanting to go back to the castle, cause he wasn't sure if he could face them along with Brooklyn. He knew his brother was getting close to Elizabeth and just couldn't at the moment face him.
At the castle. The Gargoyles jumped on their perches. Brooklyn was surprised to not see Elizabeth there to see them off.
"Liz must of had a fun night with her friends and staying later." Brooklyn said as Lexington looked at him.
"I think Broadway liked that movie so much, he stayed to watch it a few more times." Lexington said, nodding to Broadway's empty spot.
"I hope he finds a comfortable place to roost." Golaith said Owen came up the steps and approached Goliath and the others.
"I'm afraid I have some bad news." Owen said. Goliath turned to look at him.
"What is it? Speak quickly." Goliath said.
"Elizabeth has been shot. They're not sure if she'll live." Owen said. The Gargoyles looked shocked as they were frozen to stone.
In the hospital the doctors operated on Elizabeth.
"Sponge." Doctor said. A nurse gave him some sponge. "Give me more retraction here." The doctor shook his head as he worked on the girl. "Guns."
That night. Golaith and the Gargoyles stepped into the office where Owen was going through some paperwork and typing on the computer. They come up to his desk.
"How did it happen?" Goliath asked.
"We're not sure yet. They think the target was Elisa who was trying to get a stolen shipment of particle beam weaponry off the street and also they think that she was targeted because of Mr. Xanatos." Owen said.
"Where is she?" Hudson said. Owen stood up and put the papers in his briefcase.
"Manhattan General. Miss Maza is sitting with her right now, under permission from me and Mr. Xanatos. Pardon me." Owen walked out of the room and the Gargoyles watch him go. Goliath goes to leave and Brooklyn and Lexington grab him.
"Goliath. Broadway isn't back yet. I want to see Liz, but I'm a little worried about Broadway." Brooklyn said. Goliath thought a minute.
"Hudson. Lexington. You search for him. Brooklyn and I will go check on Elizabeth." Goliath said. Goliath and Brooklyn run to the side of the castle and fly off towards the hospital. Brooklyn led the way. Elizabeth had shown the trio where it was. They found where she was and saw Elisa was alone sitting next to her. Goliath tapped the window and she looked up and came over to open the window.
"How is she?" Goliath asked as Brooklyn ran to her side. She was on oxygn and her skin was pale white.
"She had some interal damage. The bullet hit high in her chest, ricocheted off the collar bone. It nicked the heart muscle and passed through the right lung. Doctor said he romoved it from the base of her spine." Elisa said. Brooklyn took Elizabeth's hand. "She survived ten hours of surgery and from what the doctor says the next 12 hours will be crucial, but they think she will pull through."
"Owen said that you might have been the target. Who do they think shot her?" Brooklyn asked.
"Tony Dracon. He stole an armed shipment and I been determined to get those guns back and off the streets. Our guess is one of Dracon's man broke into my apartment and shot her with my gun." Elisa said.
"Any prints on the gun?" Goliath asked.
"Some, but so badly smudged they don't look human." Elizabeth said.
"Have you seen Broadway?" Brooklyn asked.
"He arrived after she was shot. I had him bring her here. I haven't seen him since." Elisa said. Brooklyn stood and put a hand to Elizabeth's face.
"Keep fighting, Liz. Don't give up. Come back to us." Brooklyn said. Elisa wondered when the two would admit finally they care for each other.
"I will finish this, Elisa. I'll find the man that did this to Elizabeth and will make him pay." Goliath said, with a growl in his voice as his eyes lit up.
"I know you will. I'll stay with her." Elisa said.
"I'm coming with Goliath. Your not gonna do this alone." Brooklyn said, coming up to the leader. Goliath and Brooklyn left and flew towards the hotel where Dracon was staying after Elisa told them where to go. They land on the balcony and walk to the window and peak in.
"This buyer's gonna pay top coin for all this buck rogers stuff." Dracon said.
"We're set for Midnight down near the docks. I'll meet you there." The henchman said, getting up from the couch.
"Looks like the docks." Brooklyn said. Goliath nodded and they took off towards the docks.
Back as the hospital. Elisa was sitting reading a paper when the heart machine suddenly starts making noise. She looked up to see it going Flat line. Nurses came running in.
"Detective. I'm gonna need you to step out." The nurse said. Elisa was escorted out. She stands by the door and watches, worried about Elizabeth.
"Flat line. No pulse." The nurse tells the doctor.
"Epinephrine." The doctor said. A nurse gave him a suringe and he puts the epinephrine into Elizabeth. There was no change.
"Still flat." Nurse said.
"Get the paddles." Doctor said. Nurse brings the paddles over and puts them on Elizabeth's chest. "400 watt-seconds. Clear." The pads send the electric waves into Elizabeth, making her body jump. The heart monitor starts to beep. Elisa sighed in relief.
"Got her. Normal sinus rhyythm." The Nurse said. The doctor sighed in relief.
"Bring Elisa back in." The doctor said. Elisa stepped in.
Goliath and Brooklyn were following the car Dracon was in, keeping out of sight. They land on a roof of the warehouse where the car goes into. Goliath and Brooklyn sat waiting for a little bit when they heard someone flying towards them and Broadway lands behind him
"Broadway." Brooklyn said.
"How did you? Oh, nevermind. You're just in time to help us deal with the one who shot Elizabeth." Goliath said.
"What?" Broadway said.
"Liz was shot and the human responsible is in this building." Brooklyn said. Brooklyn and Goliath didn't notice the worried look on Broadway's face.
"Come. There's no more time for talk." Goliath said, jumping off the building with Brooklyn right behind him.
"Right." Broadway jumps down with the other two.
Dracon was on the phone.
"What? Glasses. You're not making sense. Calm down." Dracon said. He moved the phone away and looks at the others. "Bettter get this moved out of here!" Goliath, Brooklyn, and Broadway burst through the wall. "Shoot them!" The three charge the men as the men grabbed guns. The men start shooting at the Gargoyles. The Three split and Goliath breaks a breaker, making the lights go out in the warehouse. Dracon and his men looked worried. Broadway jumps down in the middle of the men.
"Your mine! All of you!" Broadway said as Brooklyn joined him and they attacked the men, ripping guns out of their hands and throwing them into walls. Dracon backs away from his men. He runs, but Goliath was on his tale. A man was shooting as Brooklyn dived out of his fire as he headed towards the man. He roared as he tackled the man and punched him. Broadway took down a man as he was firing in random trying to hit him. Brooklyn ran up to Broadway and they saw Dracon climbing steps with Goliath right behind him
"Goliath." Brooklyn called, but Goliath kept going after Dracon. Dracon reached the top and fired his gun at Goliath. Brooklyn and Broadway ran to join Goliath as he burst through the platform that Dracon was on. Dracon looked terrified. Goliath ran towards him and Dracon falls off the platform, but Goliath grabbed him by the foot as Broadway and Brooklyn joined him on the platform.
"You are the one who shot Elizabeth Xanatos?!" Goliath said, his eyes were white.
"Goliath. No You can't kill him." Broadway said.
"You think not? Elizabeth will have her revenge through me." Goliath said.
"But he didn't shoot Liz. I did." Broadway said. Brooklyn and Goliath looked at Broadway with a suprise look on their faces.
"What do you mean?" Brooklyn asked.
"It was an accident. I was looking at Elisa's gun and it went off. I'm sorry." Broadway said, using his wings for a shield. Brooklyn looked at Goliath, who looked at Dracon. Brooklyn ripped the metal from the railing as Goliath brought him up and laid on the ground. Brooklyn wrapped him in the metal. He picked up Dracon and headed down the steps to the floor below.
They captured all the men and wrapped them in metal. Goliath and Brooklyn stood looking at them as Broadway stood waiting. The door to the warehouse opened and Owen stepped into the warehouse.
"You were the buyer." Goliath said, as Owen walked past him and walked up to the table that held all the guns.
"Mr. Xanatos had to get the guns back somehow. Excellent job by the wya. He'll be pleased that you have recovered his property." Owen said as he pulled out a piece of paper. Goliath growls at the mention of Xanatos.
"Are all the weapons that were stolen here?" Goliath asked. Owen turned back to the table.
"Hard to say for certain, but I estimate that 37 guns, rifles, and heavy weapons are missing. No doubt they've already been sold on the street." Owen said. Goliath grabs one of the guns. "What are you doing?"
"Making sure that no more of these fall into the wrong hands." Goliath said, cocking the gun and pointed it at the weapons.
"Wait!" Owen said, but Goliath shot a laser at the weapons. Broadway, Brooklyn, and Owen shield their faces as the light disappeared. "Mr. Xanatos isn't going to like this."
"I'm sure Elizabeth will be happy to discuss the matter with him." Goliath said. He breaks the gun that he was using and puts it in Dracon's lap.
"Hey. What are you doing?" Dracon asked.
"Making sure the police link you with the stolen property." Goliath said. He turned to Broadway and Brooklyn. "Come. We have a sick friend to visit." Brooklyn grinned and Broadway had a look of relief on his face.
"You mean, Liz isn't dead?" Broadway asked. He went silent as Goliath and Brooklyn gave him glares and they walked out of the warehouse.
Elizabeth woke up to pain in her chest and body. The light blinded her and she had to blink a few times to adjust. Elisa was letting Goliath, Brooklyn, and Broadway into the room.
"She's still out, but she did well." Elisa said.
"No. I'm awake now and glad to see everyone here." Elizabeth said with a groan. Brooklyn was at her side in a heartbeat.
"You had us worried Liz. Glad to see you alive. How you feeling?" Brooklyn asked as the others joined him.
"Got pain and feel lousy, but I'm alright. What did I miss?" Elizabeth asked, looking at Elisa.
"Captain Chaven just called. Dracon's been arrested for Grand Theft. They found him in a warehouse with Xanatos's guns. All of them destroyed." Elisa said. Elizabeth didn't miss the smiles from the Gargoyles.
"I got a feeling you were involved in that. I'll deal with my brother when I get out. I have to have a talk with him soon anyways." Elizabeth said.
"He was babbling about monsters attacking him and his men." Elisa said, chuckling. Elizabeth laughed and coughed a bit from the pain. Broadway came over.
"Elizabeth. It was all my fault. I was playing with Elisa's gun and it went off. I'll never touch a gun again." Broadway said. Elisa looked shocked.
"My fault to. I should have been a lot more careful about where I left it. Guess we both make mistakes." Elisa said.
"You two are fine. Things happen. Maybe I'll teach you a shooting lesson one day, Broadway." Elizabeth said.
"Yeah, but you nearly paid for those mistakes with your life." Broadway said.
"Then let's not repeat them." Elizabeth said.
"Come. She needs her rest." Goliath said. Brooklyn seemed to hesitate when he walks away.
"Wait." Brooklyn said, running towards the bed.
"Brooklyn. What?" Elizabeth said as Brooklyn grabbed her hand.
"Liz after you were shot. Well I had feeling for you since I first met you and after almost loosing you. It makes me want to protect you more, because I love you." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth grinned at him as the others smile.
"Your such a doofis. I love you too, Brooklyn." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn grinned as he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her lips, gently. She returned it happily.
"About time." Broadway said as the two pulled away. Elizabeth blushed and Brooklyn got a deeper red. Goliath was smiling.
"Come." Goliath said.
"Goliath." Elizabeth said as Brooklyn let go of her hand. Goliath came over and touched her face.
"Shh. Sleep now. You're safe. We'll stand guard." Goliath said. Brooklyn gave her one last smile before they jumped out the window. Elizabeth turned her head and smiled to see the three Gargoyles standing by the window, guarding her.
"So." Elisa's voice pulled her away. "About time." Elizabeth blushed.
"Can you call the doctor." Elizabeth asked.
"Why?" Elisa said.
"To get this oxygen tube out of my nose." Elizabeth said, earning a laugh from Elisa.
"Get some sleep, Liz. I'll let the doctor know your awake." Elisa said. Elizabeth turned her head to see that Brooklyn was the one closest to the window where she could see him. She smiled, tiredly. She fell asleep with dreams of her Gargoyle.
