Chapter 7 Her Brother's Keeper

It had been a few months. Elizabeth sat on the couch with a book she was reading. Lexington was playing a game on the TV. Elizabeth was wondering how Elisa was doing trailing Elizabeth's brother with the help of Derek. Elizabeth sighed as she read the story of King Arthur. She read it many times and it was one of her favorites.

"Come on, give it up. It's my turn." Elizabeth looked up to see Brooklyn, trying to get the remote from Lexington. Elizabeth rolled her eyes.

"Hang on." Lexington said, holding it out of Brooklyn's reach. Goliath and Hudson shared looks.

"Fudge monkey's. They are fighting again." Elizabeth said, closing her book.

"You been hogging that game since we woke up." Brooklyn said, putting his hands on his hips.

"That's cause I'm the only one that knows how to work it." Lexington said. Broadway came over, eating a sandwich as Elizabeth got up and went to the TV.

"Why do you want to learn how to fly a helicopter? You got wings." Broadway said.

"Oh you wouldn't understand." Lexington said as Broadway took a bite of his sandwich.

"Right. I'm just a big dumb gargoyle with his brains in his stomach." Broadway said. Elizabeth rubbed her temples.

"I couldn't have said it better." Brooklyn said.

"That's enough. You're warriors and rookery brothers." Goliath said, coming over to the Trio. "Elizabeth did not give you this game so you could fight over it like children."

"Sorry. Guess I'm a little worried about Elisa. If cops were meant to fly, they'd have wings." Broadway said. Elizabeth crossed her arms.

"Don't worry. Derek is a good flyer, he won't hurt his sister." Elizabeth said.

"You know her brother?" Lexington asked.

"Of course. I'm friends with Elisa, plus Derek and I use to date in high school." Elizabeth said, heading back to the couch.

"Wait. You and Derek are mates?" Hudson asked.

"No. No. We dated a couple years and things didn't work out and we split. We are just good friends now." Elizabeth said. The Trio looked surprised. She never said who she dated in the past. Brooklyn came over and joined her on the couch.

"You never said you dated Elisa's brother." Brooklyn said.

"Didn't think it was important. We had other things that we wated to do and wasn't ready to stay together." Elizabeth said.

"What about now?" Brooklyn asked. She took his claw in her hand.

"I've never been happier." Elizabeth said, earning a smile from Brookly. "But you need to stop fighting with your brothers. Your giving me a headache with the fights."

"Yes ma'm." Brooklyn said, pulling her next to him and wrapping an arm around her as she opened her book as Hudson turned on the telivision. Elizabeth snuggled into Brooklyn as she opened her book again and read. Brooklyn watched what Hudson had goin on tv.

Elisa came up looking fustrated. She explained everything that happened with her brother and trailing Xanatos and running into Hyena and Jackal. Plus Xanatos offering Derek a job. Elizabeth rubbed her head.

"Remind me to kick my brother's butt next time I see him." Elizabeth grumbled. Brooklyn nodded in agreement.

"He can't work for Xanatos. What am I gonna do?" Elisa said.

"Tell him the truth." Goliath said.

"The truth? The whole truth? Including the part about Gargoyles living in New York?" Elisa said. She turned to Goliath. "That's not my secret to tell."

"Elisa. Goliath is right. You need to tell him the truth." Elizabeth said.

"It shouldn't have to be. He should trust you." Broadway said.

"Trust doesn't mean a whole lot without honesty." Brooklyn said. Lexington rubbed his head.

"Excuse me, but aren't we missing the point here? Jackal and Hyena are loose in the city. We should be tracking them down." Lexington said.

"Derek is your brother, Elisa. Tell him the truth. Show us to him if necessary. He must be made to believe." Goliath said. Elisa looked worried.

"And you have me backing you up if needed. You know he will listen to me as well." Elizabeth said, putting her hand on her friends shoulder. ELisa gave her a nod. Elisa left to go find Derek.

"You think she will tell him?" Lexington asked, looking at Elizabeth.

"I think she will, but question is. Will he listen to her?" Elizabeth said, looking at Goliath. He gave her a nod in agreement. The Gargoyles step outside. Elizabeth walked out. Brooklyn looked at her and smiled before he got into position and was frozen to stone. Elizabeth went and laid down on the couch with the tv going as she read more of her book and fell asleep soon after.

Her phone going on, wakes her up from her sleep. She reaches and grabs her phone.

"Elisa its to early. What is it?" Elizabeth groaned, rubbing her eyes.

"Its Derek." Derek's voice came and she sat up.

"Derek. Its been awhile. What's up?" Elizabeth asked.

"Can you meet at the diner today. I need to talk to you." Derek said.

"Yeah. I can meet in a hour." Elizabeth said. She hung up. She left a note for Brooklyn if it took longer with Derek.

An hour later. They sat at the diner. Elizabeth sipped her soda.

"So what's up?" Elizabeth said.

"I take it my sister told you. I'm leaving the force." Derek said. Elizabeth started to cough as the soda went down the wrong pipe.

"Sorry. All she told me was that my brother offered you a job. I haven't talked to her yet. Your leaving the force?" Elizabeth said as food was brought to them.

"I did. Elisa and my father think its a bad idea. Mom thinks its my choice. What do you think? You know your brother better then anyone." Derek said. She knew he was right.

"I don't like the idea of you working with my brother, but honestly. It should be your decision not anyone elses. Just don't trust him while you work with him." Elizabeth said, as she took a bite out of her burger. Derek gave a nod.

"How have you been? Glad to see you and Elisa together again." Derek said.

"I been good. I been seeing someone." Elizabeth said. She missed the envy in Derek's eyes.

"Wish things worked out with us, but we wanted seperate things." Derek said.

"You'll find someone someday Derek. I'm glad that we are still friends." Elizabeth said, earning a smile from Derek. They finished and Derek paid for their lunch.

"I'll catch you around, Elizabeth." Derek said as he headed out. Elizabeth put her hands in her pocket. She made it back to the clock tower before nightfall and threw away the note. Elisa came out and Elizabeth told her about the talk with her brother.

"You didn't tell him either?" Elisa asked as they stepped out where the Gargoyles were.

"No. We really need to tell him." Elizabeth said. Roars came, signaling that the Gargoyles were awake. The Gargoyles came into the Clocktower. Goliath and Hudson came over to the girls and Elisa broke the news to them while the Trio figured out the TV.

"I just can't talk sense to him. He can't see that Xanatos is up to something." Elisa said.

"I already warned him to not trust him. There is no way to stop him." Elizabeth said.

"Is there anything we can do to help?" Goliath asked.

"I'm glad you asked. If you could keep an eye on Derek for his own good." Elisa said. Goliath looked at the three and walked towards them.

"You three. Station yourselves near the castle and watch for any signs of trouble." Goliath said. He turned his back to them. He looked at them over his shoulder. "And please try to get along."

"I'll go with them and make sure they get along." Elizabeth said.

"Thank you, Liz." Goliath said. The four go outside and Brooklyn scoops up Elizabeth and they fly towards the castle. They land on a building near the castle. Brooklyn set Elizabeth down and she leaned on the side watching the castle with the others.

"I can't see how we're doing any good here. We should be looking for Jackal and Hyena." Lexington said. Elizabeth did an eye roll.

"Oh, give it a rest. It's more important now that we help Elisa." Broadway said.

"This is not getting along." Elizabeth said as she walked over to Brooklyn, who ignored his brothers and watched the castle.

"You wouldn't know what's important if it bit you on the..." Lexington said. Brooklyn turned on the brothers.

"Knock it off you two. Look." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth saw a helicopter take off from the castle. Another helicopter flew over them going after Xanatos's helicopter.

"I think that was Hyenna and Jackal." Elizabeth said. The helicopter started firing at the other helicopter. "No."

"Let's go. Liz. Get on my back." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth quickly climbed on his back and Brooklyn took off with the other two behind them. Brooklyn flew towards the helicopters. Elizabeth watched as The Packs helicopter kept shooting at her brothers. She gasped as a missle was shot next. Derek moved the helicopter out of the way and it exploded. "Your ex is a good flyer."

"He is." Elizabeth said, holding onto Brooklyn's neck as he flew. Xanatos pointed a gun out and started shooting at the helicopter. Broadway landed on the Pack helicopter first as they go to shoot a misle and turned the helicopter, making the missle miss Xanatos's helicopter. Elizabeth siged in relief as Broadway ripped the top of the helicopter off and tossed Hyena out of the helicopter. Elizabeth watched as Hyena fell and a parachuet comes out as she fell.

"Hold on tight." Brooklyn said as Xanatos's helicopter took advantage of the Gargoyles attacking and left. Brooklyn flew and landed on the helicopter.

"Give it up Jackal." Elizabeth said, looking over Brooklyn's shoulder. Jackal glared as he pulled out a gun. Lexington grabbed his hand and tossed Jackal out of the helicopter. Lexington jumped in the pilot seat.

"You sure you can fly this?" Broadway asked as Lexington looked at the controls confusing.

"Hey, it's just like the simulator game back in the tower." Lexington said. Elizabeth rubbed her temple.

"Meaning no." Elizabeth said

"Famous last words." Brooklyn said. Lexington pulled the handle and the helicopter started spiraling out of control. The four screamed as Elizabeth held onto Brooklyn for dear life as the helicopter fell. The helicopter was spinning as it was nose diving.

"Lexington! Do something." Elizabeth cried out as she felt herself getting sick.

"Maybe not the same." Lexington said. Lexington got it to stop spinning, but they were still nose diving.

"Thought you said you could fly this thing." Brooklyn said.

"I think I'm gonna be sick." Elizabeth said as she put a hand to her mouth as they were diving fast.

"If you think you can do better, now's the time." Lexington said.

"Feel the air currents. Use 'em just like you do with your wings." Broadway said.

"That's different." Elizabeth said.

"Yeah, use the force, Lex." Brooklyn said. He and Elizabeth had watched Star Wars the other night, making Elizabeth chuckle. Lexington pulled on the handle and pulled the helicopter up before it crashed into the road. Horns honked and Elizabeth sighed in relief.

"Thank goodness." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn helped her into the seat behind Lexington, quickly. Cars were dodging the helicopter and Elizabeth gasped as a semi drove in front of them. The four screamed as Lexington pulled the handles so the helicopter flew over the semi. They flew into an alley and the helicopter started hitting the ground. Elizabeth clung to the seat in front of her as Brooklyn put his claw on her shoulder to help hold her in place. It slid and tossed the two Gargoyles off. Broadway landed on top of Brooklyn as Lexington and Elizabeth climbed out of the helicopter.

"Smooth. Real smooth." Brooklyn said. Broadway gets off him and helps him up.

"Hey, any landing you can walk away from." Lexington said as Brooklyn and Broadway came up to them.

"What do we do with it now? Use it for a planter?" Brooklyn asked.

"Um. Maybe I can get it running again." Lexington said.

"Good luck with that." Elizabeth said.

"Let's hid it for now before the sun rises." Lexington said. The trio and Elizabeth put a tarp over it with some boxes to hide it. Brooklyn had her climb on his back and they flew towards the clocktower.

The Gargoyles stood around Lexington. Elizabeth stood next to Brooklyn, with her arms crossed. "I think I can have it airborne by tomorrow night."

"Why would you want to? What do we need with a helicopter?" Broadway said. Elisa walked over.

"As long as Derek is flying Xanatos's chopper, we may need one just to keep up." Elisa siad.

"She's right." Elizabeth said. Goliath came up to them.

"I'll take over surveillance of Derek and Xanatos tomorrow night. You Four get the Pack's helicopter working." Goliath said.

"Yes, sir." Elizabeth said.

"Don't worry. I'll tell you what has to be done." Lexinton said. Elizabeth, Brooklyn, and Broadway turned and glared at Lexington.

"Oh yeah? You and what starfleet?" Brooklyn asked. Brooklyn grabs Lexington and pushes him towards the ledge for the sunrise. Elizabeth rubbed her head.

"They won't learn will they?" Elizabeth asked.

"They are young. They fight like brothers are suppose to." Goliath said. Elizabeth smiled. Hudson put a hand on Elizabeth's shoulder and went to join the boys along with Bronx. Goliath turned to the girls.

"Elisa. Liz. You must talk to Derek. You must tell him the truth about us." Goliath said.

"I'm not sure that'll be enough now. I need proof of whatever Xanatos is planning to convince Derek." Elisa said.

"Then talk to Fox." Elizabeth said. Elisa and Goliath gave her questioning looks. "What? Fox has been talking with me even after I got her tossed in jail. She still has feelings for my brother. She might let you talk to her."

"Or else bring him here. When he sees us. He will have the proof he needs." Goliath said.

"No Goliath. Its gonna take more than that and I think Elizabeth is right. Thank you." Elisa said. Goliath nodded and went to join the others.

"Want me to join you on Fox?" Elizabeth asked as Elisa went to head down.

"No. I think I should do this on my own. Surprised your talking to Fox." Elisa said.

"I think she needs someone to talk to in jail. Brooklyn is the only one besides you and Goliath that knows I'm talking to her." Elizabeth said. Elisa waved goodbye and Elizabeth went to grab her blanket and pillow after changing into her pajamas. She curled up under the blanket as exhaustin from earlier caught up to her and fell asleep.

The next night. The trio with Elizabeth in Brooklyn's arms flew back to the helicopter. Elizabeth had a book in her hand for something to do. She was there to make sure the trio got along. Brooklyn set her down and she went and sit on a box as the Trio uncovered the helicopter. Elizabeth opened her book and read as the Gargoyles worked to get the thing fixed. Brooklyn and Broadway were listening to Lexington. Elizabeth read as they were fixing the helicopter.

"Just listen and we will get it done faster." Lexington said.

"Guys. Let's not fight. The sooner we get it done the sooner we can help Elisa." Elizabeth said, looking up over her book. The Trio looked at each other.

"She's right. Goliath wants us to get this done. We can't fight all night. Elisa is counting on us." Brooklyn said. Lexington and Broadway nod. Lexington and Broadway get to work and Brooklyn comes up to her.

"Thank you for backing me. Your bickering was getting annoying." Elizabeth said.

"Sorry. Thank you for stopping us." Brooklyn said. He pressed a kiss to her check, making Elizabeth smile.

"Ok lovebirds. Come help finish. I think I got it up and running." Lexington called. Brooklyn helped Elizabeth off the box and they run over to the helicopter. Goliath lands with Elisa in his arms.

"Is it ready to go?" Elisa asked Lexington pushed a button and got the helicopter blades going.

"It is. Climb in." Lexington said. They climbed in. Lexington got it all cleaned where they all could fit in the helicopter. Elizabeth sat next to Brooklyn.

"This thing looks like a flying junk pile." Broadway said.

"Yeah? I suppose that if you'd designed it, it'd be covered with food." Lexington said. Elizabeth giggled. Brooklyn shook his head.

"We'll get there in time, Elisa." Goliath said.

"I hop so." Elisa said. Elizabeth heard the worry in her friends voice. Elizabeth saw trees and she realized they were heading to her brothers upstate retreat. She was wondering why her brother was going there. They flew over the woods when they saw Hyena and Jackal attacking her brother and Jackal. Jackal took a shot at the helicoptoper. It bounced right off.

"Still think the armor looks dumb?" Lexington called back, making Elizabeth roll her eyes at the boys. Lexington turns on the lights of the helicopter to blind the Pack.

"My eyes." Hyena yelled as they blocked the light and pulled off their goggles.

"Its Jackal and Hyena. Take them out, quickly." Goliath said. Lexington hit a button and a missle was brought out. He fires it and it flies towards the two and it opens into a net. It falls on Hyena and Jackal and knocks them to the ground. Hyena and Jackal break out of it and take off running. The helicopter follows them as Jackal opens fire on them. Brooklyn opens a hatch and him and Broadway jump out and go after them. Broadway was able to knock out Jackal in one punch. Hyena had Brooklyn on her tail. She started shooting till she shot at a tree, knocking it over. It landed on top of Brooklyn, knocking him to the ground, with it on top of him. The helicopter got over Hyena and Elizabeth gasped seeing Brooklyn pinned under a tree.

"Brooklyn." Elizabeth said. Lexington peers through his goggles and locks in on Hyena. He fires and destroys the gun that Hyena is holding. Broadway flies to Brooklyn and lifts up the tree off him. Elizabeth and Elisa jump out as Brooklyn and Broadway surround Hyena. Both girls had their guns pointed at Hyena.

"I'm not beaten yet." Hyena said.

"Oh yes you are." Elisa said.

"Give it up Hyena. Your surrounded and outnumbered." Elizabeth said, cocking her gun. Hyena put her hands up in defeat.

Hyena was taken into custudy. The Gargoyles stood waiting as Elisa and Elizabeth stood talking to Xanatos and Derek.

"Dectective, I'm sure your brother was more than capable of handling the situation. But thank you for your help. Now you'd probably like a private moment. Elizabeth a word." Xanatos said. Elizabeth nodded and followed Xanatos as Elizabeth talked to Derek. "A little surprised you came to help." Elizabeth crossed her arms.

"I came to help Elisa with her brother more then you, David. I'm friends with Derek yet. You still got a lot of work to win my trust back." Elizabeth said.

"But yet your talking to Fox?" David said.

"Because she said she was sorry for what she did to me. Unlike you." Elizabeth said. She saw the hurt in her brother's eyes. "Until I know you won't hurt the gargoyles I know there won't be trust with you for now." Elizabeth goes away. Derek comes up to her.

"So. I take it one of the Gargoyles is the one your seeing." Derek said. She smiled.

"I take it my brother told you about them and my relationship?" Elizabeth asked. Derek nodded. She nodded towards Brooklyn. "I'm with the red one." Derek looks at Brooklyn who gave a nervous smile.

"He good for you?" Derek asked.

"He is. You like him." Elizabeth said. Derek nodded. Elizabeth and Elisa go to the Gargoyles and they climb a tree to head back to the clocktower. They informed Hudson what had happened. The Gargoyles head up the steps and open the door. Elizabeth pulled her jacket closed, realizing it was snowing out.

"Looks like I'm pulling my heater out." Elizabeth said as her and Elisa watch the Gargoyles jump onto their perches.

"Hey Lex. Good job on the Helicopter." Broadway said.

"Yeah. The armor really did help." Brooklyn said.

"I couldn't have done it without you two." Lexington said. Elizabeth smiled. The trio wasn't fighting anymore. The three went to their perches.

"Peace at last with those two." Elizabeth said. She looked up at the sky and closed her eyes as snow hit her face. Elisa and Elizabeth stepped back inside and closed the door behind them.

AN: New chapter up. I feel so bad with Elizabeth with the helicopter. Till next time.
