Kagemaru: 2900 LP
Jaden: 1600 LP
Michael: 4000 LP
Kagemaru's field: Hamon, Uria, Fallen Paradise
Michael's field: Eraser, Dreadroot, DNA Surgery
Kagemaru: Fortunately for you Jaden, since Uria was revived this turn and I control another monster, he can't attack, so it's your move.
Jaden: Thanks. I draw! And I summon a duelist's best friend, Wroughtweiler in defense mode!
Level 4/Earth/Machine
ATK 800/DEF 1200
Jaden: Next, I'll place a card face-down and end my turn.
Michael: My move. I draw! And I play the spell Pot of Greed, so I draw 2 more cards. Now I play the spell Half Shut. This card will halve Hamon's attack points this turn, but prevents him from being destroyed in battle.
Hamon: 4000-2000 ATK
Lily: If he attacks with Dreadroot, Kagemaru will only have 900 life points left!
Michael: Dreadroot, attack Hamon!
Dreadroot raised his fist and tried to punch Hamon, but a barrier appeared in between them.
Michael: What happened?
Kagemaru: I activated the effect of Rescuer from the Grave. When this card is in the graveyard when you attack me, I can banish five cards from my graveyard to end the battle phase, so I banished it and the other spell cards from my graveyard to cancel your attack.
Michael: I place one card face-down and summon Spirit Reaper in defense mode.
Level 3/Dark/Zombie
ATK 300/DEF 200
Michael: I end my turn there.
Kagemaru: I draw. And since Fallen Paradise is still active, I can draw 2 more. Now Hamon, destroy Wroughtweiler with Cerulean Skyfire!
A blue lightning bolt dropped from the sky, destroying Wroughtweiler on the spot.
Kagemaru: And now Hamon's special ability activates, so you take 1000 points of damage.
Jaden: 600 LP
Jaden: Wroughtweiler has a special ability too. When he's destroyed, I can add an Elemental Hero and a Polymerization from my grave to my hand, and the hero I'm pickin' is Bubbleman.
Kagemaru: Shame you'll never get to use him. Uria, attack Jaden directly with Hyper Blaze!
Uria charged a fireball in its mouth before launching it at Jaden.
Shepperd: He can't survive this!
Syrus: It's over!
Alexis: Jaden!
Jaden: I play the Flute of Summoning Kuriboh! This will let me summon Winged Kuriboh from my deck in defense mode!
Level 1/Light/Fairy
ATK 300/DEF 200
Kuriboh appeared in front of Jaden and blocked Uria's attack.
Jaden: Thanks buddy.
Suddenly one of his cards glowed and stuck out of his deck.
Jaden: What's this? This is the card Banner left in his book. And I get the feeling he left it behind for me to use to beat you.
Kagemaru: You give him too much credit. He was nothing more than a pawn, a steppingstone for me to rule the world, just as the two of you are.
Michael: We don't exist to further your selfish goals Kagemaru.
Jaden: That's right, and we'll prove it by beating you.
Kagemaru: Prove it if you can. I end my turn.
Jaden: Okay then, I draw! And I summon Elemental Hero Bubbleman!
Level 4/Water/Warrior
ATK 800/DEF 1200
Jaden: And since he was summoned while I controlled no cards, I can draw 2 more from my deck. And now I play the spell Metamorphosis. With it, I can sacrifice Bubbleman to summon a fusion monster with the same level, so I'll bring out Elemental Hero Neo Bubbleman!
Level 4/Water/Warrior
ATK 800/DEF 1200
Kagemaru: So you sacrificed one weakling for another. It makes no difference.
Jaden: We'll see about that Kagemaru. I play the equip spell Bubble Blaster, which will give Neo 800 more attack points!
Neo: 800-1600 ATK
Jaden: Now attack Hamon with Bubble Slamming Stream!
Kagemaru: You think that water gun makes a difference? Strike back Hamon!
Hamon fired an energy beam from its mouth that intercepted Bubbleman's attack, but it was overpowered and destroyed.
Kagemaru: That's impossible!
Jaden: Actually, it is possible. Neo Bubbleman's effect makes it so any monster he battles is destroyed after the battle ends.
Kagemaru: But even with that effect, you shouldn't have any life points left.
Jaden: Except by destroying Bubble Blaster, Bubbleman isn't destroyed, and I take no damage.
Alexis: What a move.
Jaden: Next, I'll place a face-down and end my turn.
Michael: Which means I'm up, so I draw! And I activate the spell Graceful Charity, so I draw 3 cards before throwing two cards from my hand out. And since the cards I discarded were two copies of Broww, Huntsman of Dark World, I can draw 2 cards from my deck. And now I play Card of Burial Magic. By banishing three spells from my graveyard, I can draw 2 cards from my deck.
Zane: Something tells me Michael has something big planned.
Michael: You've got that right. I play the trap Limit Impulse. By sending two cards from my hand to the graveyard, I can summon two soul tokens to my field.
Level 1/Dark/Fiend
ATK & DEF 0
Michael: And now it's time to unleash the most powerful Wicked God. I sacrifice my tokens and my Spirit Reaper to summon The Wicked Avatar!
Level 10/Divine/Divine-Beast
ATK & DEF ?
Lightning flashed and a giant black sphere appeared in the sky over Michael.
Chazz: That's the strongest god card?
Syrus: But its attack and defense aren't determined.
Michael: Which is part of why he's the most powerful. Avatar's attack and defense are always one point higher than the monster on the field with highest attack, which in this case is Uria.
Avatar began to change shape, morphing into a jet-black version of Uria.
Avatar: ?-5001 ATK/DEF
Kagemaru: Impossible!
Michael: Now Avatar, destroy Uria with Darkness Hyper Blaze!
Avatar launched a black fireball at Uria that ripped right through him.
Kagemaru: 2899 LP
Lily: Now Michael can attack directly with Dreadroot and win!
Kagemaru: I activate the effect of Arbitrator in my hand! Since Uria was destroyed, I can discard this card to end the battle phase!
Crowler: Almost had him.
Michael: I end my turn.
Kagemaru: My turn. And I activate Uria's special ability. By discarding one trap card from my hand, he's instantly revived.
Uria: 6000 ATK/DEF
Kagemaru: Next I'll use Fallen Paradise's effect to draw 2 more cards. Now Uria, destroy Neo Bubbleman!
Michael: Not so fast Kagemaru, I activate D.D. Crow's effect from my hand. By discarding this card, one card in your graveyard is banished, and I choose to banish one of your traps.
Kagemaru: So what? Uria will still be strong enough to crush Jaden's monster.
Jaden: Not once I play this: the spell Bubble Illusion! With it, I can play a trap from my hand, and I choose Hero's Rule 1: Five Freedoms, which will let me banish 5 cards from your graveyard, and I choose your remaining five traps!
Bastion: With those traps gone, Uria's attack points will drop dramatically.
Chazz: Yeah, by 1000 per banished trap. Which means its new attack power is 0.
Uria: 6000-0 ATK
Bubbleman launched a stream of water at Uria, destroying it.
Kagemaru: 2099 LP
Kagemaru: You're only delaying your loss. I play the Resurrection Tribute spell card. Since one of my monsters was destroyed in battle this turn, your Bubbleman is destroyed, and then I can summon a monster from my graveyard in defense mode ignoring summoning conditions, so be reborn, Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder!
Level 10/Divine/Divine-Beast
ATK & DEF 4000
Kagemaru: Next, I activate Uria's special ability, so by discarding a trap card, I can resurrect it. Return, Uria!
Level 10/Divine/Divine-Beast
ATK & DEF 1000
Jaden: I don't believe it.
Michael: We went to so much trouble to get rid of them and he brought them back like nothing.
Kagemaru: And your troubles aren't over yet. I play the spell Phantasmal Martyrs. Since I control Uria and Hamon, I can discard two cards to summon three Phantasmal Martyr tokens to my field.
Level 1/Dark/Fiend
ATK & DEF 0
Zane: This does not bode well.
Bastion: Especially since Uria's attack and defense increase to 2000 since Kagemaru discarded Divine Wrath to play his spell card.
Kagemaru: And now I sacrifice my three tokens to summon the final Sacred Beast: Raviel, Lord of Phantasms!
Level 10/Divine/Divine-Beast
ATK & DEF 4000
Bastion: He's summoned all three Sacred Beasts!
Lily: Maybe, but Michael has all three of the Wicked Gods on his field.
Kagemaru: I place 2 cards face-down and end my turn.
Jaden: Time to step up. I draw! And I play Dark Factory of Mass Production! With it, I'll add Burstinatrix and Avian from my graveyard to my hand. Next I'll use Polymerization to fuse them and summon Elemental Hero Flame Wingman in attack mode!
Level 6/Wind/Warrior
ATK 2100/DEF 1600
Kagemaru: By doing so, you've triggered Raviel's special ability. Every time you summon a monster, I get to summon one phantasm token for every monster you summoned.
Level 1/Dark/Fiend
ATK & DEF 1000
Kagemaru: If I had to guess, you were planning on using your Flame Wingman to defeat Uria this turn and deal me 2000 points of damage with his effect.
Jaden: Maybe I was.
Kagemaru: Well, you can forget it. Due to Hamon's special ability, since he's in defense mode, you can only attack him.
Jaden: Just great. And since Flame Wingman only has 2100 attack points, he can't beat Hamon, which means he's a sitting duck. Isn't there anything I can do?
?: Jaden.
Jaden: Who's that?
He turned around and saw the yellow orb that had been left behind by Banner's body floating towards him.
Banner: Jaden, you must use the card I left in the Emerald Tablet.
Jaden: How?
Banner: If you picture a card in your deck and sacrifice half your life points, it will transform into that card. You can only do this three times, and after the third time, the card will show its true power.
Jaden: True power?
Before Banner could elaborate further, Pharoah jumped up and swallowed his soul again.
Jaden: Just picture the card I want? Well, what have I got to lose?
He closed his eyes and pictured his Fusion Recovery card, and when he opened his eyes, the card had changed into the one he imagined.
Jaden: 300 LP
Jaden: Thanks Banner. I play the spell Fusion Recovery! Now I can take an Elemental Hero and a monster I used to fusion summon from my graveyard and put them in my hand, so I'll bring back Polymerization and Sparkman! And now I'll use Polymerization to fuse Sparkman and Flame Wingman to summon Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman!
Level 8/Light/Warrior
ATK 2500/DEF 2100
Kagemaru: Since you summoned a monster, Raviel's effect activates again.
Jaden: Go right ahead, because due to Shining Flare Wingman's special ability, he gains 300 attack points for every Elemental Hero in my graveyard.
Alexis: He's got seven in his graveyard!
Wingman: 2500-4600 ATK
Kagemaru: 4600?!
Jaden: Yep. And to add to your troubles, he has another ability. Whenever he destroys your monster in battle, he inflicts damage to you equal to your monster's attack points.
Kagemaru: What?
Jaden: Show him Flare Wingman. Attack Hamon with Shining Emerald Orb!
Flare Wingman charged a ball of green energy before firing it at Hamon, reducing him to shards.
Kagemaru: Impossible!
Jaden: Now Wingman, end this duel!
Flare Wingman landed in front of Kagemaru and unleashed a bright flash of light, but the fragments of Hamon moved between the two of them, protecting Kagemaru.
Kagemaru: Sorry to disappoint, but if Hamon is destroyed while in defense mode, any damage I would take for the rest of the turn becomes 0.
Shepperd: He almost had him.
Jaden: I have to make sure I survive Kagemaru's next turn, and I know just the card to help me do it.
Jaden: 150 LP
Jaden: I place one card face-down and end my turn.
Michael: My move, I draw! I play the spell Altar of Restoration, so by banishing the top 2 cards of my deck, I can add a card from my graveyard to my hand, like Pot of Greed, which I'll proceed to activate. Now I play the continuous spell Kishido Spirit, which will prevent my monsters from being destroyed in battle with monsters that have the same attack as them.
Bastion: With that card he can destroy Raviel with Dreadroot and then finish off Uria using his Avatar.
Michael: Now Dreadroot, destroy Raviel with Wicked Shadow Impact!
Dreadroot reared his fist back to strike Hamon.
Kagemaru: I play the continuous trap Mirror Illusion. With it, I can copy the effect of a continuous spell or trap on your field, and I choose your Kishido Spirit spell card.
The two monsters punched each other, sending a shockwave that nearly pushed everyone over.
Zane: It's so intense.
Shepperd: This is a true battle between gods.
The shockwaves ended and both monsters were fine.
Michael: I can't believe he countered me like that. I have to protect Jaden. I place one card face-down and end my turn.
Kagemaru: My turn. First, I use the effect of Fallen Paradise to draw 2 cards, and next I'll switch Uria from defense mode to attack mode.
Michael: Not so fast Kagemaru, I play the trap card Taunt. Now I choose a monster on my field, and if you attack this turn, you have to attack it, and I choose my Wicked Avatar!
Chumley: Sweet, since Avatar is the strongest monster out, Kagemaru can't attack this turn.
Kagemaru: If you think that's going to stop me, you're sorely mistaken. I activate the spell Misfortune, so half of Flare Wingman's original attack points are dealt as damage to Jaden.
Lily: Flare Wingman's original attack is 2500, so half of that is 1250 points.
Bastion: Which is more than Jaden has left!
Kagemaru: It's over!
Jaden: Not so fast, I play the spell De-Fusion! Flare Wingman goes back to my extra deck and I summon Sparkman and Flame Wingman in defense mode!
Zane: By doing that, Misfortune loses its target, meaning Jaden's life points are safe.
Alexis: That was a close one.
Kagemaru: Since you summoned more monsters, Raviel's effect summons another token.
Jaden: That was too close.
Kagemaru: You may have saved your life points, but you won't save your monsters. I play Lightning Vortex! By discarding one card, all your face-up monsters are destroyed.
A volley of lightning bolts dropped from the sky, destroying Jaden's monsters, but not even causing Michael's to flinch.
Michael: The Wicked Gods are immune to spells and traps that would remove them from the field.
Kagemaru: I end my turn. Better make your turn count Jaden, because it just might be your last.
Jaden: My move. And I summon Elemental Hero Clayman in attack mode!
Level 4/Earth/Warrior
ATK 800/DEF 2000
Bastion: Fortunately, since Kagemaru's field is full, he can't summon another token.
Jaden: Okay, this is the last time I can use Sabatiel's transformation effect, so I'd better pick the right card.
Jaden: 75 LP
Jaden: I play the spell Miracle Fusion! I banish Clayman from my field along with Burstinatrix, Avian, and Bubbleman from my graveyard to summon Elemental Hero Electrum in attack mode!
Level 10/Light/Warrior
ATK 2900/DEF 2600
Jaden: Alright, that's the third one. Time to see what this card can really do.
The card glowed and its text changed to reveal its final effect.
Jaden: Looks like I played my cards right. I play the spell Sabatiel – The Philosopher's Stone! This card multiplies the attack of a monster on my field by the number of monsters on your field, and you have 5 monsters on your field Kagemaru.
Electrum: 2900-14500 ATK
Kagemaru: It has over 10000 attack points?!
Jaden: It's over. Electrum, attack Raviel!
A giant blade appeared in Electrum's hand and he cleaved right through Raviel, causing him to explode.
Kagemaru: 0 LP
Winners: Jaden & Michael
Duel energy left Kagemaru's body and everyone's cards returned to normal. Jaden held up the card he got from Banner.
Jaden: Thanks for everything Banner.
Sabatiel glowed for a moment before it disintegrated in Jaden's hand. Everyone turned their attention to Kagemaru, who had returned to being an old man.
Kagemaru: I'm sorry. All I wanted was what everyone wants at my age: to be young again. Harnessing the power of the Sacred Beasts was the only way I found to do it.
Jaden: And to take over the world.
Kagemaru: Can't you forgive a decrepit old soul and his delusions of grandeur?
Jaden: I guess. But don't you see that stealing power isn't the way to feel alive again? You've gotta find the strength in yourself.
Kagemaru: I can't. It's too late for that.
Jaden: It's never too late. Come on, try and stand up.
Kagemaru stumbled for a moment but managed to stand on his own two feet.
Kagemaru: It must've been our duel. All the excitement put the spring back in my step.
Jaden: That's great!
He gave the old man a hug, accidentally injuring his back in the process. Shepperd called for help and a helicopter soon arrived to take him to a hospital.
Jaden: I guess old people and bear hugs don't mix.
Michael: After everything he's done, I think he got off easy with that.
Shepperd: At least now the Sacred Beast cards are back under lock and key where they belong.
He returned the cards to their pedestal and it and the spirit gates sank back into the ground.
Syrus: It sure is going to be quiet around here now.
Crowler: I wouldn't be so sure. After all, promotional exams are coming up next week.
Jaden: Oh no, I totally forgot.
Chazz: Pathetic.
Atticus: Saving the world is one thing, but making the grade?
Bastion: Not really Jaden's thing.
Alexis: That's true. Better get studying.
