Chapter 12 A Lighthouse in a Sea of Time

Elizabeth sat in class listening to her proffessor.

"The scrolls of Merlin have been found." The Proffessor said. Elizabeth perked up from what she was writing. They are being brought here for studying." The Proffesor said. Whispers from the students came from the students. Elizabeth was the quiet one. She had heard the news that the Scrolls of Merlin were found. She was surprised her Proffesor was bringing it up. "I want a volunteer who will meet the Archeologists on their boat and escort them with the two police officers to the museum. Any volunteers?" Elizabeth's hand shot up fast before anyone could process the information. Some of her classmates rolled their eyes at her and some snickered. Elizabeth ignored them. "Miss Xanatos. I'm not surprised. You'll be meeting with Miss Maza and Mr. Bluestone to meet with the Archeologists." Elizabeth grinned.

"Thank you." Elizabeth said. Two girls leaned over.

"Of course the weird one gets it." One girl said. Elizabeth leaned over.

"I might be the weird one, but I'm pretty sure that you two will run crying from a fight. Me. I run into the fight." Elizabeth said. The girls eyes widen and they shut up. The Proffesor excused them and Elizabeth left. Elizabeth called Elisa.

"I heard it was you." Elisa said.

"Well of course. I can't miss an opportunity like this." Elizabeth said as she got in a taxi to head to the clock tower.

"You breaking the news to the clan." Elisa said.

"Of course. I have a feeling someone is gonna try to steal the scrolls. Might as well see if they can keep an eye on the ship." Elizabeth said. Elisa agreed as Elizabeth hung up and snuck into the police station and up to the clock tower.

It was nearly sunset. Elisa soon joined her as they waited for the Gargoyles. The Gargoyles soon joined them as soon as they shook the rocks from their bodies. Elizabeth and Elisa broke the news to the Gargoyles of the scrolls.

"The Scrolls of Merlin are being taken to the Metropalitin Museum to be studdied." Elizabeth said. The gargoyles looked surprise.

"Do you really think the scrolls were written by Merlin?" Lexington asked as he sat surrounded by books.

"Wouldn't it be incredible?" Elisa said.

"I would love to read them." Elizabeth said, earning a chuckle from Goliath and Elisa. Brooklyn was looking through a book as he sat on the stairs.

"Merlin. He was a wizard, wasn't he?" Brooklyn said, looking towards Elizabeth, Elisa, and Goliath. "Like the Magus?" Elizabeth nodded.

"He was. He was a white wizard in the fifth century." Elizabeth said.

"If your interested. The library downstairs is full of books about him." Goliath said.

"Plus you got me to teach you about him." Elizabeth said. Broadway took a bite of his sandwich.

"Why stare at marks on a page when you can rent the video?" Broadway said, earning an eyeroll from Elizabeth as Lexington pulled another book from Bronx.

"They aren't marks when you know how to read." Lexington said.

"Well I can't read and I don't think I'm missing anything." Broadway said.

"Uh Huh. Ignorance is bliss. Right Hudson." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth looked towards Hudson, who was sitting in his favorite chair.

"Leave me out of this. Cyber celeberity Hokey is on. Come here, Bronx!" Hudson called. Bronx ran up the steps towards Hudson and fell on the floor.

"Elizabeth and I got to go. Matt and I are assigned to the scrolls escort team." Elisa said. Elizabeth goes over to Brooklyn and kisses his check.

"And I'm the archaeologist in training going with." Elizabeth said.

"You taking your gun?" Brooklyn asked.

"Always." Elizabeth said, patting her hip.

"Do they know what the scrolls contain?" Goliath asked. Elizabeth and Elisa head for the steps to head down.

"They are still sealed." Elisa said.

"Rumor is they are magic spells." Elizabeth said. Goliath looked worried as the girls head down to meet Matt.

An hour later. Elizabeth had the hood of her jacket up as the boat headed to meet the ship that was bringing the scrolls. It was storming really bad. Elizabeth went up behind Elisa as the woman greated them.

"We didn't think you make it!" The woman said.

"I wouldn't miss this if I had to swim." Elisa said.

"Same here." Elizabeth said as the woman helped them onto the boat. They entered the Captain's quarters after Elizabeth was introduced. The scrolls sat in the middle of the room behind glass in canasters. They walked up to them.

"The scrolls are sealed in these two canisters." The woman said. Elizabeth smiled as she looked at them. A beeping came from a computer. Elizabeth and Elisa ran to the windows to see two beams of light coming there way.

"Get down." Elisa called. Elizabeth threw herself to the ground as the windows exploded. Elisa moves the Woman to a corner to keep her protecteed.

"Stay down." Matt said as Elizabeth got up.

"Not happening." Elizabeth said as the Captain ran to the radio.

"Mayday. Mayday." The Captain called. Elizabeth and Elisa went to the window. They saw copters flying towards them.

"Not good." Elizabeth said.

"Coast Guard this is the HMS Churchill. We are under attack!" The Captain called. Elizabeth saw the choppers land on the deck of the ship.

"Elizabeth. We're closing in." Brooklyn's voice said in Elizabeth's ear. Elizabeth tapped Elisa's shoulder.

"They are nearing." Elizabeth whispered. Elisa nodded. Elizabeth, Elisa, and Matt pulled out their guns. Elizabeth stood close to the scrolls as they pointed their guns at the door. Gunshots rang out from outside.

"Coast Guard come in." The Captain tried again. The door was blown off, knocking Matt into the Captain.

"Matt!" Elisa shouted. Gunshots came in as Elizabeth saw two people in the door. Elizabeth dived out of the fire as one ran at Elisa and knocked her to the ground. Elizabeth goes to shoot but the man knocks her gun out of her hand and knocks her to the ground. The woman looked at the Archaelogist, who was holding the canisters.

"Give them up." The lady said. The Archaelogist held the canisters close.

"No these scrolls are priceless." The Archaelogist said. Elizabeth looked at the attacker as she put her hand to her face.

"Oh man." The lady said, putting her gun in her holster. "What was I thinking." The Archaelogist lets her guard down.

"Don't." Elizabeth called, but it was to late as the lady kicks the legs out from the Archaelogist and she goes flying and the canisters go flying. The lady catches them both and tosses one to the man that was now pointing a gun at Elisa and Elizabeth. The two escape out the door.

"Elizabeth. We're here." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth got up and grabbed the speaker to her comunicator for the Gargoyles.

"Brooklyn. They got the scrolls!" Elizabeth said.

"Got it." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth and Elisa ran outside to see the Gargoyles attacking the choppers trying to get the scrolls. Brooklyn and Lexington were getting shot at.

"Come on." Elizabeth whispered. The crafts flew off with the Gargoyles right behind them. Elizabeth saw Goliath, Brooklyn, and Lexington, but not Broadway and Hudson.

"Where are Broadway and Hudson." Goliath said in her ear.

"Broadway is on that one." Lexington said.

"Hudson must be on the other." Brooklyn said.

"Follow them." Elizabeth said. The Gargoyles follow the crafts as the ship turned in the same direction.

At the docks. Elizabeth and Elisa leaned against a cop car after giving their statements as the Archaelogist gave hers.

"Can't believe the scrolls were stolen." Elizabeth said. Elisa nodded.

"No one specific, but who wouldn't want them." The Archaelogist said. Elizabeth and Elisa shared looks and went into an alley where the Gargoyles were waiting for them.

"I feared the scrollswould produce to much of a temptation." Goliath said. Elisa pulled her hat off and threw it to the ground.

"Xanatos. Made me and Elizabeth look like an amature." Elisa said.

"It might be my brother, but it could be someone else as well. We have other enemies besides Xanatos." Elizabeth said.

"I got no proff and without it..." Elisa said.

"Without it. It falls to us." Goliath said.

"Hudson and Broadway missing?" Elizabeth asked, looking at Brooklyn.

"They were on the choppers as they got away." Brooklyn said.

"Let me get cleared. I'm coming with to deal with my brother." Elizabeth said.

"Hurry." Goliath said. Elizabeth hurried out and whispered to Elisa.

"Go. I'll cover you." Elisa said.

"Thank you." Elizabeth said. She ran back in the ally and climb on Brooklyn's back. The three Gargoyles climb the wall till they reach the roof. Elizabeth climbed off Brooklyn's back and he scopped her off as the other Gargoyles took off. Brooklyn took off after them.

"I hope we can find those scrolls." Elizabeth said.

"I hope so too." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth sighed as they neared the castle and land in the courtyard. Elizabeth led the Gargoyes into the castle. Elizabeth pushed the doors open to the parlor and enter with the Gargoyles behind her. Owen was sitting on the computer typing, but got up and approached them.

"Xanatos, Hudson, Broadway. Where are they." Goliath said. Elizabeth crossed her arms.

"I suppose they could be anywhere." Owen said, looking at his notebook in his hand.

"No game! Take us to him." Goliath said, eyes glowing white. Owen smirked and looked at the notebook.

"You should know I can't do that." Owen said.

"Then we will find them ourselves." Goliath said. The Gargoyles left and Elizabeth turned on Owen.

"I hope your not lying to us. They aren't in the best of moods." Elizabeth said. Owen just shrugged as Elizabeth went to help look around. No luck. They go to Owen's office to find him reading a newspaper.

"Goliath. They aren't here." Lexington said. Elizabeth looked at the clock.

"And the sun is about to come up." Elizabeth said.

"You didn't find them. I'm not surprised." Owen said. Elizabeth put a hand on Brooklyn's shoulder to stop him from attacking Owen.

"We are running out of time. You know where they are. Tell us." Goliath said with a growl.

"Or if you have any information where they might be. Please tell us." Elizabeth said. Owen sighed.

"All of Mr. Xanatos's vertical and landing craft are in the shed. You might want to try MacBeth." Owen said. Elizabeth and Brooklyn shared worried looks and they left the castle to fly back to the clock tower.

At the clock tower. Brooklyn set her down as he got on his perch.

"I'm sure both found safe places to rest. I'll let Elisa know suspision has switched to MacBeth." Elizabeth said.

"Thank you." Goliath said. Brooklyn kissed her quickly and turned to face the sun and froze them to stone. Elizabeth dialed Elisa as she turned towards the door.

"Elisa. Everything is accounted for at my brothers. Owen suggested trying MacBeth." Elizabeth said, shutting the door behind her. Elizabeth heard Elisa groan on the other end.

"That's another one I should of thought of. You sure?" Elisa asked.

"Broadway and Hudson weren't at the castle. I'm pretty sure since they are still missing." Elizabeth said, grabbing a blanket and her pillow to lay down on the couch.

"Alright. Thanks for letting me know. I'll look into him." Elisa said.

"Let me know. I'm going to bed." Elizabeth said, with a yawn as the girls hung up. Elizabeth plugged her phone in and curled up on the couch under the blanket and fell asleep.

The next night. Goliath, Lexington, and Brooklyn, who had Elizabeth in his arms, flew towards MacBeth's mansion. They landed in the wooded area near the mansion. Goliath landed first then Brooklyn and Lexington landed next. Brooklyn set Elizabeth down. The Gargoyles and Elizabeth look at each other.

"Now what?" Brooklyn asked. Hudson suddenly lands in between them.

"Hudson." Elizabeth said, hugging the old Gargoyle, happy to see him. He returned the hug.

"Now we go in." Hudson said.

"We were worried." Lexington said. Goliath walks up to his mentor.

"There you are." Brooklyn said.

"Where's Broadway?" Hudson asked.

"We thought he was with you." Elizabeth said.

"I haven't seen him since the battle." Hudson said.

"Then he's in the mansion." Elizabeth said, looking at Goliath.

"There." Lexington said, pointing towards the mansion where smoke was coming over the walls. Elizabeth came up to Brooklyn and he picked her up as he went to a tree. She hung on as he climbed a tree with the others and took off towards the Mansion. They flew into the courtyard. Elizabeth saw the two that attacked the ship running towards them.

"We were spotted." Elizabeth said. Guns popped out of the ground and the two people jumped on them and started shooting at the Gargoyles. Elizabeth held onto Brooklyn as he flew past the blasts.

"Broadway." Goliath said. Elizabeth spotted Broadway chained to a pillar as MacBeth pulled out one of the scrolls. Brooklyn spun right to avoid a gunshot. Elizabeth burried her face in his neck as he moved away.

"We can't get past those cannons." Lexington said. Elizabeth looked towards them.

"I have an idea." Hudson said.

"Brooklyn. Try and get me to the courtyard." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn nodded as they flew towards the cannons. The Gargoyles snuck around, still taking fire. Goliath jumped on one and destroyed it. Brooklyn quickly set Elizabeth down as Hudson collided with the other one sending the man flying. Brooklyn caught him. Elizabeth ran towards MacBeth, who was walking around reading one of the scrolls. Elizabeth stopped and listened. It sounded more like a history in Merlin's own words.

"This is a Diary! Where are the spells?!" MacBeth yelled. Goliath knocks MacBeth to the ground and Elizabeth ran and grabbed the open spell that went flying. She held it close as Goliath picked up the other scroll. "You caught me in foul mood, monster." MacBeth went to attack Goliath, who jumped out of the way and landed next to Elizabeth. Brooklyn pushed Elizabeth behind him to protect her and the other scroll..

"Release Broadway." Goliath said. Macbeth pulled out his gun and pointed it at them.

"Or what?" MacBeth said. Elizabeth moved away from the Gargoyles and put one of the scrolls near the fire.

"Or I'll burn the scroll." Goliath said, holding the scroll that he held towards the fire.

"Go ahead. They are worthless. No magic at all." MacBeth said.

"No they are magic. Don't burn them, Goliath. You can't. It's Merlin's life. In his own words. When you read them, they take you there. It is magic, Golith. Precious Magic." Broadway said.

"Your finally learning." Elizabeth said, with a smile.

"He's right, lad. Would be the greatest shame to loose them." Hudson said. Elizabeth nodded in agreement.

"Your all trespassing. Take the scrolls and leave." MacBeth said, pulling a control from his jacket. He pushes a button and Broadway is released. Goliath turned towards Elizabeth and handed her the last scroll. Brooklyn picked her up and they head towards the wall. She held on as he climbed the wall and they flew off.

"We'll give the scrolls to Elisa so she can return them. I can read them to you if you like." Goliath said, looking at Hudson.

"No thank you. We'll read them ourselves as soon as we learn how." Hudson said, earning a smile from Elizabeth. Brooklyn was starting to learn with her help. She was happy to see the others wanting to learn as well. The flew towards the clock tower and landed on the balcony. It was sure a good past few nights. Elizabeth was happy to have the Scrolls in good hands and back to the Museum.
