Chapter 17 High Noon

Lexington sat on a box in front of Coldstone with his laptop plugged into him. Goliath stood watching. Elizabeth and Brooklyn were curled up together on the couch as Brooklyn tried reading a Midsummer Dream with Elizabeth helping him with some words and Hudson and Broadway were reading a newspaper. Hudson and Broadway were starting to get better. Brooklyn was ahead of them with reading. Elizabeth couldn't be more prouder of the Gargoyles for trying to learn to read. Brooklyn had an arm wrapped securly around Elizabeth as they laid wrapped in her blanket.

"The city honored Rosario Sanchez and Peter Choy." Hudson was reading and Brooklyn and Elizabeth looked towards him. Elizabeth grinned. "Who last week pulled a five year old from the lake in Central Park and.." Hudson struggled a bit with the word but got it. "Resuscitated him."

"When asked about their heroic act. The teenagers agreed it was the rig... The rig-ht..." Broadway was struggling a bit.

"The right thing to do." Elisa's voice came and Elizabeth and Brooklyn looked behind them to see Elisa coming up the steps with books in her hand for the Gargoyles to read. Broadway goes over to her.

"Hi Elisa. How'd you know what they said?" Broadway asked, taking the books from Elisa. "Were you there?" Elisa stretched her back.

"No. But choosing to save the child took real courag and that always feels right." Elisa said. Elizabeth nodded in agreement.

"Guess you do that all the time, huh?" Broadway said. Elisa waved her hand.

"I'm no hero. I just do my job." Elisa said. She yawned and stretched. "My job for tonight is over. All I want to do is hit the sack." Elisa said. Elisa heads towards Goliath and Lexington. Brooklyn and Elizabeth stood up as Broadway went to put the books down.

"Why would you want to hit a sack?" Hudson asked, confused.

"Oh, she means she's tired and wants to sleep." Brooklyn explain.

"Then why didn't she say so?" Hudson asked. Elizabeth shook her head and went with Elisa over to Coldstone. Broadway followed the girls over to the other two. Elisa yawned.

"I brought more books on computer viruses, Les. Are you getting anywhere?" Elisa asked.

"I think so. The virus that attacked Coldstone wiped his programming clean." Lexington said. He tapped some stuff on the laptop. Elizabeth crossed her arms as she listened. Brooklyn came up next to her. "Nothing's broken, but nothing's working either. It's like a blank slate. Even the virus is gone.

"But the three Gargoyle souls used to create Coldstone were put there by magic, not programing." Elizabeth said.

"She's right." Goliath said.

"I know. They've got to be in there somewhere. If I could just devise a siple operating program." Lexington said.

"You'll figure it out, Lex." Elizabeth said. Elisa started heading for the steps.

"I'll see you tonight. I've got to get some sleep." Elisa said.

"As do we." Goliath said. Brooklyn kissed Elizabeth on the check as the Gargoyles go outside and on their perches. Elizabeth started putting the books near Coldstone and putting the laptop away. She heard footsteps on the steps.

"I thought you were going to bed." Elizabeth said turning. She gasped when she saw MacBeth standing there. "MacBeth. What are you doing here?" MacBeth grinned as Elizabeth realized her gun was on the couch.

"To pick up something that is importance to us." MacBeth said.

"Importance? Us? What..." Something hard hit Elizabeth in the head and she hit the ground. As her vision got Blurry, Elizabeth saw a red headed woman come in sight with an evil smirk on her face. She looked familiar as Elizabeth lost consiousness.

"Liz. Liz." Elisa's voice pulled her out of the darkness. Elisa looked worried. She helped Elizabeth sit up. Elizabeth rubbed her head. "You were knocked out by the woman and MacBeth as well?" Elizabeth nodded.

"You were also?" Elizabeth asked. Elisa nodded. Elizabeth got worried. "The Gargoyles?"

"They are all in one piece. But Coldstone is gone." Elisa said. Elizabeth looked at the time and realized she was out most of the day.

"We'll figure this out as soon as the Gargoyles awaken." Elizabeth said, heading to the couch and sat down. Elisa sat in Hudson's chair. Elizabeth rubbed her head.

"Who was that woman with MacBeth?" Elisa asked.

"I don't know. She looked familiar, but I couldn't put a finger on her." Elizabeth said.

"Hopefully we find out later." Elisa said. Elizabeth nodded in agreement as the sun went down in the horizon and the roars of the Gargoyles and the girls stood up and went to approach the steps as the Gargoyles stepped inside. The Gargoyles were all smiles till they saw the looks on the girls faces. Brooklyn jumped down to Elizabeth.

"What happened?" Brooklyn said.

"Where's Coldstone?" Lexington asked. The girls explained what happened with MacBeth and the woman. Goliath stood with a look on his face that was a mix of concern and worry.

"I left MacBeth with the weird sisters? How could he escape them?" Goliath asked.

"We're not sure." Elizabeth said.

"And how did he know where to find us?" Broadway asked.

"Did you reconize the woman?" Brooklyn asked.

"Se seemed familiar. I just can't place her." Elisa said. Lexington picked up his book and laptop.

"But why would they steal Coldstone?" Lexington asked.

"I don't know, but we can't leave my brother in his hands." Goliath said.

"Aye. It's time we pay MacBeth a visit." Hudson said.

"I'm coming with." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn grinned as they head up the steps.

"This is terrible. The Gargoyles stop and look at Elisa. "I mean I want to go with you, but I go back on duty in 30 minutes." Elisa pointed at her watch. Goliath looked at the others.

"I think the seven of us can handle MacBeth." Goliath said. Elizabeth and the others nod in agreement. "You have an entire city to protect." Elisa sighed.

"You have a point. Just make sure you're careful and I want a full report later." Elisa said. The Gargoyles went towards the door. Brooklyn picked up Elizabeth as Broadway picked up Bronx. Goliath led the Gargoyles as they flew towards MacBeth's mansion. Elizabeth had a bad feeling that they were possibly being led into a trap.

They arrived at the Mansion and Lexington was able to bypass the alarms with ease, which was a shocker. They walked down the halls.

"You're getting real good at bypassing alarms, Lex." Broadway said.

"Don't give me credit. It was too easy." Lexington said.

"And that worries me." Elizabeth said.

"Don't worry, Liz. We'll be in and out in no time." Brooklyn said.

"And it's too quiet. I'd say MacBeth's expecting us." Hudson said.

"Then let's see if we can flush him out. Brookln, Liz, and Bronx. Go that way." Goliath said, pointing in the direction. Brookly and Elizabeth nodded and they took off running with Bronx. They come to an area with stairs. It was dark.

"KInd of spooky, isn't it?" Brooklyn asked.

"It is, but to quiet." Elizabeth said. Bronx growled and sniffed around. He stopped at a door and started scratching at it, growling.

"What is it boy?" Brooklyn asked as him and Elizabeth came up to Brooklyn. Elizabeth rested a hand on Bronx as Brooklyn opened the door. Brooklyn turned on a ligth as Bronx stepped in. Elizabeth and Brooklyn looked around.

"Just a closet." Elizabeth said. Her and Brooklyn walked out. Bronx started barking and they turn to see Demona jump out of the room and tackle Brooklyn. "Brooklyn!" He was knocked out as Demona threw him into a wall and he hit the ground. Elizabeth ran and jumped on her. She roared as she grabbed Elizabeth and sent her flying. Brooklyn had stood up when Elizabeth collided with him and they hit the ground. "Sorry." Brooklyn helped her up and Bronx came flying into them and they hit the ground. "Ugh. Bronx. I think you need to lay off the food." Elizabeth gasped as he was heavy on her.

"Off her Bronx." Brooklyn said. Bronx got off and Brooklyn helped Elizabeth up. They looked towards Demona. She approached and then screamed in pain. Brooklyn's eyes glowed in anger and he tackled Demona to the ground.

"Get off me!" Demona yelled, kicking Brooklyn off her. Elizabeth ran over to help Brooklyn up as Demona stood up to attack them when Bronx jumped on her and knocked her to the ground, pinning her. Elizabeth and Brooklyn ran to their dog.

"Guard Boy." Brooklyn said. Demona growled and Elizabeth punched her, knocking her out. "Nice hit." Elizabeth grinned at her Gargoyle. Bronx got off Demona and Brooklyn threw her over her shoulders.

"Find Goliath." Elizabeth said to Bronx. Bronx sniffed and lead them to a room where Broadway was throwing MacBeth to the ground. Elizabeth saw Coldstone chained down.

"Deoman's still out there!" Coldstone said.

"Some of his circuits must be crossed. MacBeth and Demona would never work together." Lexington said. Brooklyn tossed Demona to the ground.

"Uh. Guess again." Brooklyn said.

"They must've escaped the Weird Sisters together." Goliath said.

"But why team up? They hate each other." Elizabeth said.

"Maybe misery loves company." Goliath said.

"Figure it out later. Let's free Coldstone." Lexington said. He ran over to Coldstone.

"You believe it's safe?" Goliath asked, following Lex. Elizabeth bit her lip.

"He didn't have to warn us about Demona. I think the right personality is in control." Lexington said.

"I don't know, Lex. I got a bad feeling." Elizabeth said as Goliath picked up the chains and broke it. Brooklyn put a hand on her shoulder as Goliath pulled the chains away. Coldstone stood up.

"Thank you. I feared you'd be captured coming to my aid. I shoud've had more faith." Coldstone said. He walked over to Demona and MacBeth. "Now... To deal with these two." Coldstone picks them up.

"What are you going to do?" Broadway asked.

"Just this." Coldstone said. His blaster came on and he flew up. "Now." MacBeth and Demona's eyes open and the Gargoyles gasped. MacBeth pulled out a control and pushed a button. Electricity ran through all the Gargoyles and Elizabeth. They screamed in pain. The Gargoyles fell to the ground. Elizabeth fell on top of Brooklyn. She heard Coldstone's evil laughter and knew it was the personailty that hated Goliath and it wasn't Coldstone as darkness took her.

"Liz. Liz." Elizabeth groaned as Brooklyn's voice pulled her out of her slumber. She woke up with chains wrapped around her hands and tied to the ground. All the Gargoyles were chained as well. "Thank goodness." Brooklyn sighed in relief. She was leaning against him. MacBeth and Coldstone stood talking and it was near sunset.

"You guys alright." Elizabeth asked, pulling at the chains.

"We're fine, just weak, lass." Hudson said. Elizabeth looked around and saw that she was in a park near the building. Goliath didn't look happy.

"Where's Demona?" Elizabeth asked.

"She took off shortly before I got you out of your sleep. She's going to apparently get Elisa to save us. You ok?" Brooklyn said.

"I feel exhausted." Elizabeth said. Brookly grabbed her hand. She smiled.

"Suns about to come up." Broadway said. Brooklyn squeezed her hand and let her hand go. He turned to stone with the others. Elizabeth looked twoards Coldstone.

A half an hour later. A woman that Elizabeth saw when she was knocked out came towards MacBeth and Coldstone and Elizabeth gasped. She was dressed like Demona would be in human.

"Demona? Your human? But how?" Elizabeth said. Demona grinned evily at Elizabeth.

"A curse from PUck to be Gargoyle by night and human by day." Demona said. Elizabeth cursed Puck under her breath. Of course he would allow her to be human. She only hoped he would grant her wish to be gargoyle when ready. She sat up and turned around to look at Brooklyn.

"Hold on Brooklyn. We'll get out of this soon." Elizabeth whispered, putting a hand on Brooklyn's arm. She heard Coldstone walking and looked up to see him looking up at the sun. She was surprised to see that he wasn't turned into stone like the other. He looks up at the sun.

"I never dreamt I'd see the sun. Why haven't I turned to stone?" Coldstone asked, turning towards Demona and MacBeth.

"Because you are no longer a gargoyle. Day or night. You are Coldstone." Demona said. Coldstone walked a bit. A couple walked by, but didn't seem to notice them.

"Why does not one see us?" Coldstone asked.

"It's enough that they don't. Leave it be." MacBeth said. Coldstone turned away and seemed lost in thought. Elizabeth was having issues staying awake. Footsteps came and Elizabeth saw Elisa heading their way. She walked up towards Goliath. She looked around and saw all the Gargoyles in one piece and Elizabeth next to Brooklyn. She had a look of relief on her face. Demona was holding a gun now.

"You are brave, human, but stupid." Demona said. She aimed the gun at Elisa and Goliath. Elisa turned towards Demona.

"I'm unarmed." Elisa said.

"That was your first mistake and your last." Demona said. MacBeth put his hand on Demona's gun and lowered it.

"Surely you're not afraid to face her. Hand to hand?" MacBeth said with a smirk. Demona tosses the gun to the ground.

"I fear no human! Come, Detective. Goliath cannot save you now." Demona said.

"I'm here to save him." Elisa said. Demona ran at Elisa and they fell to the ground and Elisa kicked Demona off her sending her flying. Elisa got up and laughed. "Hah. You fight like a rookie." Elizabeth let out a laugh. Demona goes to attack and Elisa moves out of the way and Demona lands on the ground. Demona gets up and kicks Elisa to the wall. Elisa moves out of a fight and Demona comes at her and they start wrestling on the ground. Coldstone, MacBeth, and Elizabeth sat watching the girls fight.

"Well, this is diverting." Coldstone said.

"You don't know the half of it." MacBeth said.

"More entertaining. Get her Elisa." Elizabeth called as the girls continued fighting. Coldstone gasped and grabbed his head. "What the?" Elizabeth watched as Coldstone yelled.

"No! I am Besieged. NO!" Coldstone yelled, falling to the ground as electricity started flowing around him. Elizabeth gasped. The other 2 minds were fighting the evil Gargoyle to get control. Coldstone froze as Elizabeth stood up, wondering what was going on, ignoring Elisa and Demona fighting. Colstone stands up and Elizabeth bit her lip.

"Are you alirght?" MacBeth asked.

"Just give me a moment to access my memory banks." Coldstone said. He turns and knocks MacBeth to the ground.

"YES!" Elizabeth said, knowing the real Coldstone was now in full control. MacBeth pulls out a gun and Coldstone shoots the gun out of MacBeth's hand.

"It seems your allegiance has shifted slightly." MacBeth said. Coldstone lowers his laser as MacBeth steps into a speaker. "Airship, priority one extraction!" Demona looked up. Elisa took the advantage and kicked Demona off her. Demona growls and jumps at Elisa. Elisa kicks her again and sends her flying into Broadway. She rubs her head. "Demona to me." Demona and MacBeth run towards a coming airship and they use the ladder to climb up onto it and fly away. Coldstone runs after them but Elisa stops him.

"Wait. I need your help getting the chains off the Gargoyles and Liz. Besides, hasn't there been enough fighting for one day?" Elisa asked. Coldstone turns and blasts the chains off the Gargoyles and Elizabeth.

"Thank you." Elizabeth said to Coldstone. He looked at her and nodded.

"I must take my leave, ladies." Coldstone said. Elizabeth grabbed his arm.

"Wait. Goliath and the others will want to see you." Elizabeth said.

"No. There are forces at war within me, and until that battle is decided. No living Gargoyle is safe from Coldstone." Coldstone said. He looked at Elizabeth and Elisa. "Tell my brother I will return some day." Elizabeth and Elisa nodded.

"We will." Elisa said. Coldstone took off. Elizabeth fell to the ground beside Brooklyn as Elisa sat down next to Goliath and leaned against him with a heavy sigh. Elizabeth pulled off her jacket to use as a pillow as a jogger came running up.

"Hey, where did those statues come from?" The jogger asked.

"Don't ask me." Elisa said.

"We're just taking a nap." Elizabeth said. The jogger ran off. Elizabeth turned so her back was touching Brooklyn's arm. She let sleep take her, now that she knew the Gargoyles were safe.
