Chapter 19 The Price

The Gargoyles flew over Manhattan. Brooklyn had shortly joined them after picking up Elizabeth from a friends wedding shower. Snow had fallen that night and Elizabeth had hat and gloves on with her winter jacket. Elizabeth was surprised to see Hudson with the others. Elizabeth could feel Brooklyn shivering.

"Cold?" Elizabeth asked.

"Very." Brooklyn said, huggin her close as he felt a shiver run through her.

"I'm alright." Elizabeth said.

"Boy, the city sure is different when it snows." Lexington said.

"Yeah. It's colder." Brooklyn said, looking at his brother.

"It's almost dawn and we've completed our patrol. Let's return to the clock toweer for a good day's sleep. They flew in silence for awhile.

"Not a bad life, all things considered." Hudson said. They turn a corner. A bright of light and explosion came and The Gargoyles yelled. Brooklyn clutched Elizabeth close to him as she burried her face in his neck.

"Yeah. Too bad he wants to end it." Brooklyn growled. Elizabeth looked and saw someone flying a piece of machinery. She squinted and reconized the silver hair. He had a gun pointed at them.

"MacBeth." Hudson said as they watched him approach them with a smirk on his face. He aimed the gun at them and the gun lit up.

"I've been looking for you." MacBeth said. He shoots electricity at them and the Gargoyles fly out of the way and it hits the building. The Gargoyles surround MacBeth. Elizabeth had her gun in her hand as Brooklyn held her as his eyes glowed.

"I don't know how you escaped the weir sisters, MacBeth." Goliath said.

"But your going to wish you hadn't." Brooklyn said. The Gargoyles go on the attack and MacBeth moves out of the way. He starts sending blasts.

"Brooklyn. Get Elizabeth onto one of the roofs." Goliath ordered. Brooklyn quickly went to the nearest building and set her down. Brooklyn took off to help the others.

"Why are you attacking us?" Goliath asked.

"Trophies." MacBeth said. Elizabeth bit her lip as he flew over the trio and sent a blast hitting Brooklyn in the chest.

"Brooklyn!" Elizabeth shouted as he fell towards the ground. Goliath flies after him. Elizabeth sighs in relief as she sees Goliath catch him and flies up and lands on the roof she's on. Elizabeth runs over to Brooklyn as Goliath sets him down. Elizabeth kneels next to him as Goliath takes off. She looks up to see Broadway and Lexington going after MacBeth. MacBeth sends a net at them and Elizabeth gasps as electric goes through the net and they fall on the roof where Elizabeth and Brooklyn were. "Come on. Sun is almost up." Hudson goes after MacBeth as Elizabeth runs to the other two and tries to pull the net off Broadway and Lexington. Hudson yells as a powder hits his face. He flies towards the roof and crash lands. "Hudson!" Elizabeth runs over to him.

"I'm fine, lass." Hudson said. Elizabeth and Hudson turn to see MacBeth approaching but Goliath lands on the machine MacBeth was on and grabs MacBeth.

"You'll have to do better than that." MacBeth said, pressing the gun to Goliath's back.

"NO!" Elizabeth shouts as electric goes through Goliath and he roars in pain. Goliath falls but lands swiftly on a railing on another roof over. Hudson pulls the net off Broadway and Lexington as they groaned. Elizabeth ran to Brooklyn and helped him sit up. He rubbed his head. MacBeth comes over to them and Brooklyn put a proctive arm in front of Elizabeth. Hudson jumped in front of the young ones shielding them. MacBeth pointed a gun at them all.

"Farewell. My enemies." MacBeth said with an evil grin. Elizabeth grabbed Brooklyn's arm as she heard him growl.

"NO!" Goliath yelled. He ripped part of a pole off the railing. He threw it at the machinery and it starts exploding. The gargoyles watched as it fell towards the road and another bright light and explosion came. Elizabeth looked away from the flash. Brooklyn used Elizabeth for a bit of support standing and they go over to the side as smoke came up.

"I don't believe it." Lexington said.

"Believe it, lad. MacBeth is dead." Hudson said. Goliath landed on the roof and turned to face the sunrise.

"I had no choice." Goliath said. The gargoyles and Elizabeth turned to look at him. "He would of killed the five of you." Hudson brushed off the powder as he approached Goliath.

"No one's questioning you, Goliath." Hudson said.

"You did what you thought was right." Elizabeth said. The Trio nodded.

"We best prepare to sleep right here. Dawn is upon us." Hudson said. Brooklyn hugged Elizabeth with a quick kiss on the check. Elizabeth watched as the Gargoyles got into fighting stances as the sun rose and turned them to stone. Elizabeth yawned and decided to go crash at a good friend that lived not far.

That night. Elizabeth stood on the roof waiting for the sun to go down. She watched the sun disappear over the horizon and she turned to watch the Gargoyles burst from their stone, all except Hudson. Elizabeth gasped.

"Hudson." Goliath said as the Gargoyles stare in shock as Hudson remained in stone.

"What's wrong? Why doesn't he wake up?" Broadway asked. Goliath walks up to him and kneals down to touch him.

"I don't know." Goliath said. Brooklyn came up to Elizabeth and put a hand on her shoulder. She looked at him. Both looked worried. "Wait. Last night MacBeth threw some kind of powder on Hudson." Elizabeth and Brooklyn looked at Goliath.

"I remeber." Elizabeth said.

"Powder?" Lexington asked.

"Sorcery." Goliath said. He stood up. "A magical concoction to keep him asleep. And its up to us to find a cure." He looks at the four.

"But how?" Lexington asked.

"MacBeth is dead. Who else would know about the powder?" Elizabeth said. Goliath looked worried as he looked at Hudson.

"Lexington and I will go to MacBeth's mansion. Brooklyn, Liz, Broadway, stay here and protect Hudson." Goliath said as him and Lexington goes to the edge. Brooklyn runs after him.

"Goliath, what if there is no cure?" Brooklyn asked. Goliath stops and looks back.

"There is a cure. There must be." Goliath said. Him and Lexington took off. Elizabeth came up to Brooklyn.

"They will find something Brooklyn." Elizabeth said, wrapping her arms around her body. Brooklyn turned and came over and wrapped her in his arms and wings around her. She wrapped her arms around him. Broadway paced back and forth.

"I'm worried." Broadway said. Brooklyn and Elizabeth looked at him. "Even if Goliath finds something at MacBeth's place. How're we gonna make it work? None of us are sorcerers. Less Liz is a witch." Elizabeth rolled her eyes at him.

"Let's just focus on protecting Hudson. We can't let anything happen to him." Brooklyn said. Brooklyn let Elizabeth go and they sat on the edge.

It was almost sunrise. Elizabeth checked her phone to see no messages from Xanatos or Fox. She put her phone away as the Gargoyles looked around. They heard a machine. A shot hit the ground and Elizabeth screamed as she fell off the edge with Brooklyn. Brooklyn grabbed her hand as he grabbed the side.

"Brook!" Elizabeth said, eyes widening. He looks up and gasps as he sees MacBeth on a flying machine, alive. "Impossible." Brooklyn grunts and tosses Elizabeth up onto the roof and pulls himself up. Elizabeth stands with gun in her hand.

"It can't be. There is no way he could of survived the crash." Broadway said.

"Looks like he did." Elizabeth said. The three scatter as he starts shooting them. Brooklyn is blasted off the building. Elizabeth aims her gun and takes some shots as Brooklyn catches the air. A blast hits the ground sending her flying. Brooklyn quickly swoops down and catches her.

"I got you." Brooklyn said as she wraps an arm around him. Broadway ran across the roof after Brooklyn and Elizabeth and took off.

"We've gotta make him follow us. Lead him away from Hudson." Broadway said. Brooklyn and Elizabeth nod. A blast comes and the two Gargoyles seperate. Elizabeth burried her face in Brooklyn's neck as more blasts come.

"I've been looking for you." MacBeth's voice came. The Gargoyles flew diving out of the attacks, leading him away from Hudson. Elizabeth took some shots at MacBeth as she held onto Brooklyn for dear life. She saw rays of sun coming.

"Avalon. The sun is about to rise." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn looked.

"Fudge Monkey's she's right." Brooklyn said. Broadway caught up to the two.

"Least we lead him away from Hudson." Broadway said. Elizabeth flinched as more shots came.

"Yeah. Now if only somebody would lead him away from us." Brooklyn growled.

"It's almost dawn. We'll be sitting ducks." Broadway said as they flew fast and dived out of blasts. Broadway flies up. "Besides, we've got to nail him. He's the only one who can cure Hudson."

"He's right." Elizabeth said.

"I know, but I got to get you to safety." Brooklyn said. He flies towards a roof and sets her down and takes off towards MacBeth. Elizabeth runs to the side as the Gargoyles try and take him.

"Liz!" Elisa called. Elizabeth turned as Goliath and Lexington land with Elisa with them. Brooklyn landed on a fireescape as Broadway moved away from a blast.

"MacBeth. ALive!" Goliath said. Goliath goes to charge as the sun was coming up. Elisa and Elizabeth ran to stop him with Lexington behind them as they grabbed his arms. He pulled them with.

"Goliath you can't." Elisa said.

"The sun." Elisa, Elizabeth, and Lexington said together as the sun came up. Goliath brushed them off as the sun turned him and Lex to stone. Elizabeth turned and saw Brooklyn turn to stone on the fireescape.

"NO!" Elizabeth shouted as Broadway turned to stone in the air and started falling to the ground. Elisa saw a box on a crane.

"Liz. Help." Elisa said. The girls pulled their guns out and shot the rope. The rope broke and the box crashed to the ground, breaking and carpet comes out. Broadway lands on the rolls and Elizabeth falls to her knees, sighing in relief.

"Trophy." MacBeth's voice came and Elizabeth gritted her teeth as she glared after MacBeth. Elisa came over.

"You alright?" Elisa asked. Elizabeth nodded.

"The Gargoyles are safe that's all that matters. Let's see if the crane guy will get Broadway on the roof. Mind if I crash at your place today." Elizabeth said.

"Of course." Elisa said. They got the crane guy to put Broadway up by Goliath and Lexington. Elizabeth knew Brooklyn would be safe where he was. Elisa and Elizabeth headed her place. Soon as Elizabeth laid on the couch she was out.

That night. Elizabeth and Elisa explained to Goliath, Lexington, and Broadway how they saved Broadway. Goliath and Lexingtong put hands on Broadway's shoulder.

"Jalapena!" Elizabeth grinned as Brooklyn flew up to them with a huge smile on his face. "Your're still alive." Brooklyn lands on the roof next to Elizabeth. "It's a miracle."

"Yes. Thanks to Elisa and Elizabeth." Goliath said, giving the girls a smile. Brooklyn wrapped an arm around Elizabeth.

"What I don't get is MacBeth. Why did he cut and run?" Lexington said.

"Yeah. Good question. He keeps saying he wants us as trophies, but why didn't he come back for us while we were stone?" Brooklyn asked.

"Hudson!" Goliath said. He picked up Elisa and Brooklyn picked up Elizabeth as they took off in the air to go back to Hudson. They flew to see Hudson still standing where they had left him. The Gargoyles land and Goliath and Brooklyn set the girls down.

"No sign of MacBeth." Broadway said.

"I still wanna know how he lived through that crash." Brooklyn said.

"And why he keeps attacking us." Elizabeth said. Goliath put a hand to his face as he thought.

"It's almost as though he's trying to keep us off-guard. While something is going on." Goliath said. A blast comes and the Gargoyles move out of the way. Elisa goes rolling while Brooklyn, pulls Elizabeth out of the blast. Elizabeth and Elisa pull out their guns as MacBeth flies by and the Gargoyles run to the edge.

"Keep him away from Hudson." Goliath said, flying away from a blast as the Gargoyles take off leaving the girls on the roof. Brooklyn and Broadway fly after MacBeth.

"Farewell my enemies." MacBeth said, sending a blast at Brooklyn which hits him in chest blasting him back into Broadway. They fall and grab a ledge of the building. Brooklyn sighs.

"Okay. This is getting old." Brooklyn said. Him and Broadway pull themselves onto the roof. Blasts come close to hitting Hudson.

"Don't do it." Elisa said. She goes to shoot and her gun gams. Elizabeth stood, holding her gun pointing at MacBeth and he aims and shoots the gun out of her hand. Lexington gasps as MacBeth approaches the statue.

"Hudson!" Goliath shouts as Elizabeth dives for her gun as MacBeth takes aim. Elizabeth gasps as he blasts the statue, destroying Hudson.

"No!" Elizabeth shouts. Goliath lands on the roof and looks at the rubble. Elizabeth quickly looks at her gun. It was not destroyed. She groaned as Goliath clutched his fists and runs to fly off the roof and goes after MacBeth. They get into a fight. Elizabeth watched as Goliath punches a hole in MacBeth's chest. She gasps as electric runs out of the hole.

"A robot!" Elizabeth shouted. The robot falls off the machine and explodes on a roof. The Gargoyles land on the roof as Elisa and Elizabeth stood by the rubble. Brooklyn and Lexington fall to their knees next to the rubble. Elizabeth put a hand on Brooklyn's shoulder.

"Hudson was the Greatest Warrior I have ever known. His loss diminishes us all." Goliath said.

"Yeah, now I wish I'd..." Brooklyn whiped his face as Elizabeth got down on her knees and hugged Brooklyn. "He was one in a million." Goliath put a hand on Brooklyn's shoulder.

"He's forgotten more things than we'll ever know." Lexington said.

"He was always there for us." Elisa said.

"He had a lot of good stories to tell from long ago." Elizabeth said.

"I'm sorry, Hudson. I wish it hadn't turned out this way." Broadway said.

"All things conidered." They turn and see Hudson standing right behind them with hands on his hips. "I'm just glad it did." He starts walking towards them.

"Hudson! Hudson." Goliath said.

"You're not dead!" Lexington said. Elizabeth and Brooklyn stood.

"Thank goodness." Elizabeth said as Hudson came over and looked at the rubble.

"It's a long story, and one best told over a hot cup of tea." Hudson said. He picked up a piece of his face and grinned. "I think I'll keep this as a souvenir. Not everyone can reclaim their head after loosing it. Let's go home." Elizabeth and Elisa hugged Hudson. "Lass a word quick." Hudson pulls her off to the side. "You know your brother is looking to find a way to become immortal."

"I'm not surprised. Fox asked me a few weeks ago if I heard anything. I take it he didn't suceed?" Elizabeth asked.

"He didn't." Hudson said. Elizabeth nodded. Elizabeth walked up to Brooklyn and he scooped her up as Goliath picked up Elisa. The Gargoyles took off heading for the Clock tower for the night.

AN: We are getting close to Avalon chapters. Note. I will not be sending Elizabeth to Avalon. It will be explained later along with her parentage in the coming chapters. Till next time.
