Elizabeth sat in Elisa's car in the front seat. Brooklyn was partroling with Goliath and Elizabeth decided to hang with Elisa and Broadway and Lexington were flying near. Someone had called that a power plant was going to melt down and it turned out to be a false alarm. It was raining bad as they head back to Manhattan.
"Sorry, boys. I owe you, big time." Elisa said in the mic that connected to the earpieces for them all to talk to.
"It's ok. If some voice over the phone told me the power plant was gonna melt down, I wouldn't have taken any chances either." Lexington said.
"Thanks, guys. You're real troopers." Elisa said.
"Thanks for picking me up from work to go see that." Elizabeth said. Elisa grinned at her friend.
"ARGH!" Lexington and Broadway yell in the girls ears.
"Lex! You two alright?" Elizabeth asked.
"Something hit us!" Lexinton said.
"What?" Elisa asked.
"It's got me! Argh!" Lexington shouted.
"Lex, What's going on up there?" Elisa asked. Elizabeth tried to look outside, but she couldn't see anything in the rain. Elisa and Elizabeth looked foward and Elizabeth gasped as a Gargoyles flew by the car. Elisa swirved to get out of the way. Elizabeth held tight to the dash as Elisa kept control of the car and came to a stop. Elisa and Elizabeth got out of the car as Broadway and Lexington land on the ground. Both were unharmed.
"Woa! That was close." Broadway said.
"You ok, Elisa, Liz? What happened?" Lexington asked.
"I'm not sure. Something forced me off the..." Lightning struck a cliff and Elizabeth gasped as she saw a Gargoyle standing on top of the cliff.
"Goliath?" Elizabeth and Elisa asked. The Gargoyles looked as confused as the girls. Evil laughter fills the air and the Gargoyles and the girls shared scared looks, wondering what was going on. Elisa and Elizabeth got into the car and headed to the clock tower with the Gargoyles following.
Elizabeth and Elisa stood talking to Hudson on the balcony where the Gargoyles slept, explaining what happened to them. Elizath sat petting Bronx.
"And when the thunder passed, Goliath was gone." Elisa said.
"You should've heard his laugh. Make my hair stand on end. If I had any." Lexington said, touching his head. Hudson rubbed his chin.
"Hm. That doesn't sound like the Goliath I know." Hudson said.
"And he never laughs like how that Gargoyle did." Elizabeth said.
"Tell me about it." Elisa said.
"No. Let's have Golaith tell us about it. Where is he?" Broadway asked, looking around.
"He and Brooklyn are out on partrol at least, that's where he said they'd be." Elizabeth said. The Gargoyles jump on their perches.
"With dawn fast approaching, they probably found a ledge to spend the day on. Somewhere Goliath would feel safe." Hudson said. The Gargoyles turn to stone.
"I have a feeling its not Goliath." Elizabeth said.
"Its the only explanation Liz." Elisa said as they head into the clocktower. Elizabeth let out a yawn. "We'll get answers tomorrow. See you tonight." Elizabeth walked her to the stairs and watched her go down. Elizabeth got ready for bed and grabbed her pillow and blanket. She watched some tv for awhile as she laid on the couch and passsed out shortly after.
That night. The Gargyoyles were awake and Elisa was in the clock tower as they waited for Goliath and Brooklyn got there. Brooklyn and Goliath came in. They froze when they saw everyone with arms crossed.
"What happened?" Brooklyn asked, jumping down by Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Elisa explained what happened to them and that they saw Goliath and how he laughed.
"I don't know what you're talking about. Surely you know I am not in the habit of playing childish pranks or laughing maniacally in the dark." Goliath said, anger in his voice.
"Do you even know how to laugh maniacally?" Hudson asked.
"But, Goliath, we heard you. We saw you!" Elisa said.
"No, you couldn't have. Goliath was with me all night. And we never left Midtown." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth put a hand on her chin. Something didn't seem right.
"I don't get it. If Goliath was in Midtown, who was messing with us last night?" Elizabeth asked, looking at the Gargoyles. The Gargoyles looked worried.
"Take me to where you saw the Gargoyle." Goliath said. Goliath, Broadway, Elisa, Brooklyn, Lexington, and Elizabeth head to the scene where the Gargoyle was seen. They land where the Gargoyle stood when the lightning struck. Goliath and Brooklyn set the girls down.
"Here?" Goliath asked.
"Right here. This is where the Gargoyle stood when the lightning bolt struck." Elisa said.
"What's this?" Broadway asked, picking up what looked like a bracelet.
"Looks like the kind of tracking device Gen-U-Tech uses." Elizabeth said.
"Gen-U-Tech. Genetic Engineering." Brooklyn said.
"The creature we saw last night might've been one of theirs." Lexington said.
"Lexington, you and Broadway pay them a visit. See what you can find out." Goliath said.
"We're on the case." Broadway said. Broadway and Lexington take off. Elizabeth bit her lip. She remembers that place having been captured and almost turned into a mutant. What were they up to now and was her brother involved. Brooklyn put a hand on her shoulder.
"If Gen-U-Tech's involved, then Sevarius is too." Elisa said.
"And probably my brother." Elizabeth said. Goliath and Brooklyn nodded.
"Let's see if we can find the creature." Goliath said. Goliath and Brooklyn took off to look in the air. Elizabeth and Elisa looked around on foot. After awhile of looking Goliath and Brooklyn landed back by the girls.
"We didn't find anything else out of the ordinary." Elisa said.
"What about that?" Goliath asked, pointing towards the oil rig.
"The Oil rig?" Elizabeth asked.
"Looks abandoned." Elisa said. Elizabeth noticed a boat heading for the oil rig.
"Well, someone seems to have found a new use for it." Goliath said.
"Its either Sevarius or Xanatos." Brooklyn said.
"We should go." Elizabeth said. Goliath picked up Elisa and Brooklyn picked up Elizabeth and they take off towards the Oil Rig. They flew over the Oil Rig to see Xanatos with Sevarius pinned to the wall.
"What would put Xanatos and Sevarius at each other's throat." Elisa asked.
"I don't know." Elizabeth said.
"Let's not interupt them just yet. I want to look inside." Goliath said. Brooklyn followed Goliath around. They land on a platform. A roar came as the Gargoyles put the girls down.
"What was that?" Brooklyn asked.
"It came from the oil tank." Elizabeth said. Goliath went over to the door to the oil tank and turned the wheel till the door opened. Goliath stepped in first and Brooklyn, Elisa, and Elizabeth followed. A black Gargoyle with white hair stood chained in the room. Elizabeth gasped.
"Goliath." The Gargoyle said with Goliath's voice. He moved his wings. "It's you at last. I am Thailog." The Gargoyle looked like Goliath, but with darker skin and White hair. His eyes were red.
"Woah." Elizabeth and Elisa said.
"What kind of abomination are you?" Goliath asked. Thailog growls.
"The same kind as you. It was your blood that spawed me." Thailog said.
"My blook?" Goliath asked.
"Avalon. He's a clone!" Elizabeth said.
"Cone?" Brooklyn asked.
"They grew him from a piece of you, like a cutting from a plant." Elisa explained.
"A piece of me? This thing is me!" Goliath growled. Thailog tried breaking from the chains. Goliath's eyes glowed and the girls and Brooklyn back away a bit from their leader. "First Xanatos steals my home, and now he pieces out my soul!" Thailog growls, eyes glowing red. Goliath goes to attack Thailog but Elisa and Elizabeth grab him as Brooklyn eyes Thailog.
"You've got every right to be angry, but no right to take it out on Thailog. What differnce does it make how he came into being?" Elisa said.
"He's as much a Gargoyle as you and Brooklyn are. In way, he's almost your son." Elizabeth said.
"They are right, Goliath." Brooklyn said.
"How can you reject him?" Elisa asked. Goliath sighed when he knew the girls were right.
"You're right, of course. If there's anyone to blame here it's Xanatos not Thailog." Goliath said. Brooklyn turned towards Thailog as he broke from the shackles and grabs Brooklyn, sending him flying into the wall, knocking him out. "Im going to set him free." Thailog grabs a mask and knocks the girls out of the way as he tackled Goliath to the ground, putting the mask to his face.
"That won't be necessary. The shackles weren't locked." Thailog said. Elizabeth saw Brooklyn unconsious.
"What are you doing?" Elizabeth said.
"Stop!" Elisa shouted. The Girls sit up as Goliath falls unconsious from whatever was coming out of the mask. Thailog lets him go and stands up.
"And just for the record, I'm more of a gargoyle than he'll ever be." Thailog said, approaching the girls, laughing evily. The girls press against the wall, terrified.
Thailog chained Elizabeth and Elisa up to the wall and chained the Gargoyles. He disappeared and then came back with David and Sevarius. They were chained with the girls. David didn't miss the angry glare from his sister as Thailog takes the suitcase of money and puts the keys into the suitcase.
"I'm impressed, Thailog. You played Sevarius like a harp. But if money was the bottom lin, why not just ask? We could've come to an arrangement." Xanatos asked. Thailog looks at Xanatos.
"Maybe on your terms, not mine. Did you expect me to spend my life being your stooge and the doctor's private guinea pig?" Thailog said. Elizabeth snorted. She wasn't surprised. "You two didn't go to all this trouble just to raise a fool."
"Typical. You do and do and do for them and what happens? They twist the kife in you." Sevarius said. Thailog grabs Sevarius.
"Don't tempt me." Thailog said, eyes glowing red. He let go of Sevarius and walked away. "Time to go. I've got plans of my own and 20 million to see them through." He laughs evily. Brooklyn groaned and sat up.
"Brooklyn." Elizabeth said. He pulled at the chains and couldn't break them. He growled. He didn't like seeing Elizabeth chained up. Goliath was still unconsious.
"So, how are you gonna spend it? Stroll into a bank and open a checking account?" Sevarius asked.
"I'll find a way to make it work for me. I set all this up, didn't I?" Thailog asked.
"Thailog." Elizabeth looked to see Goliath awake. "Don't go down that path. Money is a necessary evil in Xanatos world but not in ours." Goliath stood up. Join us. Join your clan."
"And waste my life playing guardian angel night after night?" Thailog said. He walks towards Xanatos as he talks. "To a decrepit city infested with inferior humans?" He waves his hand at Xanatos. "Where is the profit in that?"
"Not all humans are like Xanatos." Elizabeth said.
"Life for a gargoyle isn't about profit. It's about protecting those you care for." Goliath said.
"I considered caring about you. It took some effort but I arranged for you to join this party because I'd planned to share the money with you." Thailog said, walking up to Goliath. "But our family reunion diappointed me, father. So I've decided to hate you too." He turns to the girls. Brooklyn growled as he kneals by the girls and looks at them."It's a shame about you two. I'm afraid you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
"It goes with the job." Elisa said.
"And I'm just making sure my brother doesn't cause more issues." Elizabeth said. Thailog eyes.
"A shame about them? What is that suppose to mean?" Sevarius asked.
"He means for us to die, Doctor." Xanatos said.
"Die?" Sevarius asked. Brooklyn and Elizabeth shared worried looks
"This rig is not as empty as it looks. My first visit out here. I found 200 gallons of stored oil topside. A face that doesn't bode well for the six of you. On my way out, I'm going to open those tanks, flood the platform with oil." Thailog said. He pulls out a flare gun. "The flare gun will be my parting shot." He wraps his wings around him as he turns to open the door. "I can't wait to see all three of my proud fathers go out in a fiery blaze of glory" Thailog opens the door and steps out. As he closes the door they could hear his laughter as the door shuts.
Sevarius struggles with the cuffs. Elisa looked up and slipped the cuffs off her hand.
"I love a woman with a delicate wrists." Xanatos said. Elisa goes over to Elizabeth and helps her slip her hands out.
"You work with handcuffs as much as I do, you pick up a few tricks." Elisa said. Elizabeth hurried over to Brooklyn and pulled at the chains. His hands were to big to slip out.
"How does that help us? She can't break out our chains." Sevarius said.
"Goliath can." Xanatos said. Elisa helped Goliath stand. Elizabeth helped Brooklyn up. Goliath grabbed the chains and pulled, but struggled.
"No he can't. I created the gas Thailog used on Goliath. It was designed to leave him weak and helpless for hours." Sevarius said.
"He might not, but I can." Brooklyn growled. He ripped the chain from the wall that held him. Elizabeth smiled. He walked over to Goliath and did the same. Goliath smiled.
"Thank you." Goliath said.
"Hey what about us?" Sevarius said.
"Might want to or your not gonna hear the end of it from Fox." Elizabeth said when Brooklyn hesitated. He sighed. He knew she was right. He went over to Xanatos and Sevarius and broke them from their shackles.
"Thanks Liz." Xanatos said.
"I'm doing it for Fox and my godchild. Not for you." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn goes to the door and rips it off the hindges. They all stepped out. Elizabeth gasped. Oil was spread out on the oil rig.
"Thailog wasn't kidding. One spark and the whole rig goes up like a roman candle." Elisa said.
"The launch is this way." Xanatos said. Goliath turned to Elisa and Elizabeth.
"Go with them, Elisa, Liz. I have to face Thailog." Goliath said.
"No, Goliath." Elizabeth said.
"Please. He is of my blood. He is my son." Goliath said.
"He won't do it alone. I'm staying with him to help." Brooklyn said.
"Both of you stay safe." Elizabeth said. Elizabeth and Elisa ran after Xanatos and Sevarius.
"I don't like this." Elisa said as they climbed down towards the boat.
"Brooklyn is with him. Both will look out for each other." Elizabeth said. They got into the boat and Xanatos gets it away from the Oil Rig. They could hear the fights with crashing sounds and Elizabeth heard the gun go off and fire erupts on the Oil rig. Elizabeth bit her bottom lip. Explosions came as Xanatos pulls the boat to a stop.
"Oh no." Elisa said.
"Not good." Elizabeth said. More explosions came engulfing the oil rig.
"Goliath." Elisa said, putting her face in her hands.
"Where are you, Brooklyn?" Elizabeth said with worry. Xanatos put a hand on Elizabeth's shoulder.
"What can I say, Elizabeth." Xanatos said. Goliath and Brooklyn burst out of the water.
"Oh thank goodness." Elizabeth said, pushing her brother's hand off her shoulder. Goliath and Brooklyn swam to the side. Elizabeth and Elisa reached down and helped the Gargoyles onto the boat. "You hurt?" Elizabeth asked, examining Brooklyn.
"No. We're both fine." Brooklyn said, pulling Liz into a hug as he sat on floor of the boat with Goliath.
"Well, I should've know no copy could live up to the original." Xanatos said. Elizabeth and Brooklyn glared at Xanatos. Goliath stood up.
"That copy was a living veing and we all failed him." Goliath said.
"We have company!" Sevarius said, pointing to the sky. Broadway and Lexington were flying towards them. Brooklyn and Elizabeth stood up as Broadway and Lexington land on the boat.
"What did we miss?" Broadway asked.
"Let's just say it's been a long night." Elizabeth said.
"We had a busy night too." Broadway said.
"We learned a whole lot about Thailog." Lexington said.
"So did we, guys. So did we." Elisa said, helping Goliath stand up. Xanatos took the wheel of the boat and headed to shore. Elizabeth looked back at the oil rig and wondered if Thailog died or if he survived.
