Chapter 25 Pendragon

The Gargoyles and Elizabeth stood on the balcony of the clocktower as a storm raged.

"The Weatherman didn't say anything about a storm coming." Lexington said. Elizabeth had a strange feeling. That something big was coming.

"This is no ordinary storm. I know this wind. Something is coming." Hudson said.

"I feel it to." Elizabeth said. The Trio looks at each other. Lightning flashes and the Trio gasps.

"Let's go for a patrol." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth ran to get her gun and ran back. Brooklyn scooped her up and they took off, flying. Elizabeth looked at the sky. The clouds were swirling. They flew around not sure what they were looking for.

"Hey. Over there!" Broadway said. They saw people on the roof and a smoke on the roof.

"What is that?" Lexington said.

"Nothing good." Elizabeth said.

"Nothing that belongs here." Hudson said. They fly towards the roof as it started to rain. The wind pushes against the Gargoyles. Elizabeth burries her face in Brooklyn's neck as the wind continues to pick up. Brooklyn held her close as he fights the wind. The wind disappears and Elizabeth saw a man and what looked like a Gargoyle laying on the ground and MacBeth and his henchmen standing on the roof. Brooklyn dropped Elizabeth to the floor.

"MacBeth." The man said. Elizabeth saw he was dressed like a midevil king. And the Gargoyle looked like a bird Gargoyle.

"Have we met?" MacBeth asked aiming a gun. Hudson tackled him. Brooklyn adn Broadway knock down the henchmen to the ground and their guns go flying in the air. Lexington grabs the weapons. Elizabeth came up to them

"Are you both ok?" Elizabeth asked.

"We are." The Gargoyle said.

"To me!" Elizabeth turned to see MacBeth running towards the plane. "We'll finish this later." He jumps in the pilot seat and gets the engine going as the Henchmen jumped in. Elizabeth watches as MacBeth takes off.

"Should we go after him? MacBeth tends to be bad news." Lexington said.

"I'd like some answers first." Brooklyn said.

"Thank you, my friends. If I may so call you?" The man said.

"Who are you?" Elizabeth asked.

"Name's Griff, of London. And I guess this is this really is King Arthur." Griff said.

"Wait. The King Arthur." Elizabeth said.

"You know me." Arthur said, turning to Elizabeth.

"Know you. I've read every book there is of you. Your a legend." Elizabeth said with a huge grin.

"Liz. Breathe." Brooklyn said with a chuckle.

"What's your name, Milady." Arthur asked.

"My name is Elizabeth but my friends call me Liz." Elizabeth said.

"A royal name for a beautiful girl." Arthur said. Elizabeth blushed red and Brooklyn came over and put a hand on her shoulder.

"We are looking for Excalibur. The Sword." Griff said.

"Are you of Goliath's clan? He told me to seek you out if I came to Manhattan." Arthur said, looking at the Gargoyles.

""You've seen Goliath." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth rubbed her head.

"Is he alright?" Lexington said.

"Are Bronx and Elisa with him? Broadway said.

"When are they coming back?" Elizabeth said.

"Do you guys ever listen to me when I said they are fine." Elizabeth said.

"I met up with Goliath in London." Griff said.

"So you were right lass. Avalon is taking them all over." Hudson said. Elizabeth noded.

"I met them on Avalon when Elisa awakened me from my enchanted sleep. Only Avalon knows when they will return." Arthur said. He looks out at the city. "But if this is Manhattan." He moves his hand towards the city. "Then the sword has left Britain." He sighs. "I don't understand."

"There might be a reason the sword is here." Elizabeth said. Arthur explained why he was here and what he was told in Britain.

"Well, this is an "Isle of Towers." But "Eblon glass in emerald frame"? I can't say I know what that means." Hudson said. Brooklyn and Elizabeth came to the side.

"I think I do. Look" Brooklyn said, pointing out. There were trees surrounded by buildings with a lake in between. Arthur smiled and nodded. Brooklyn scooped up Elizabeth and the Gargoyles took off flying in that direction. Griff had King Arthur. Elizabeth still couldn't believe she was actually meeting the King of England.

"Your living a good dream." Brooklyn said with a chuckle.

"Don't wake me from this." Elizabeth said. They land by the lake and Brooklyn set Elizabeth down. Arthur approached the lake and Griff and Elizabeth followed him. Arthur picked up a white lily.

"Pure white lily speak her name." Griff said. Arthur tosses the Lily in the lake and it floats.

"Lady of the Lake! It is Arthur Pendragon." Arthur said. Swirls came around the White Lily and a hand grabbed the lily and a woman came out of the water all in light.

"Avalon." Elizabeth whispered. The Gargoyles watched in shock.

"She's so beautiful." Broadway said.

"And she was right in our own lake!" Lexington said.

"Yes but why? Why here and not in Britain?" Arthur said. A energy ball flies right behind them.

"I think we will find out soon." Elizabeth said.

"I had not expected to see you for some time, Arthur Pendragon. What would you have of me?" The Lady of the Lake said. Arthur walked out into the water. He kneels in front of Lady of the Water.

"I need my sword, Lady. I am not whole without Exccalibur." Arthur said.

"Excalibur serves the king gwho can claim it, Pendragon." Lady of the Lake said.

"Then I claim it. I am the King of Britain." Arthur said.

"This is not Britain, but a far larger stage." The Lady of the Lake said. She moves her hand towards the city. "Still, the world does need a leader and that leader needs this sword. But you must prove your worth." The Lady of the Lake makes swirling. Elizabeth gasped.

"Arthur look out." The Gargoyles and Elizabeth yelled. Arthur is pulled towards the Lady of the Lake. She raises her hands and bubbles head up to Arthur. Arthur backed up and Elizabeth gasped as a water monster comes out of the lake. It grabbed Arthur and put him in the water. Elizabeth and the Gargoyles ran towards the water monster. The water monster sent water at them sending them flying. Elizabeth landed on her back on the grass. Brooklyn was beside her. She looked up to see Arthur sticking his head out of the water monster.

"Use the lightning weapon." Arthur said, looking at Griff. Griff pulls out a gun. Brooklyn helped Elizabeth up. "Fire at the base." Griff fires and it hits the water monster. The water monster explodes and sends Arthur flying. Griff and Lexington help Arthur up.

"You alright." Elizabeth asked.

"I'm fine. Thank you, my friends." Arthur said.

"Well done, Pendragon." Elizabeth looked at the Lady of the Lake. "You are still a leader born. In the heart of these gardens, across the river, lies the sword in the stone. To be claimed by the timeless king who can find it.

"To be claimed by me!" Arthur said.

"That remains to be seen." Lady of the Lake said. She disappears into the water.

"Wait. What did she mean by the "Gardens across the river?" Elizabeth said.

"That looks like a maze." Hudson said. Lexington put his hand to his chin to think. "There, there are no mazes on Manhattan."

"Brooklyn!" Lexington said.

"What?" Brooklyn asked.

"No, no. She means Brookly. the hedge-maze in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I saw it in a guidebook." Lexington said.

"He's right. We should get going. I got a feeling MacBeth is after it as well." Elizabeth said. The Gargoyles nodded.

"What are we waiting for. Let's go." Brooklyn said, picking up Elizabeth. The Gargoyles climb the tree and they head towards Brooklyn for the maze in Brooklyn. Flying machine sounds came. Elizabeth gasped as they saw the Henchmen on flying machines.

"Look out!" Lexington said. The Gargoyles scattered as the Henchmen shot at the Gargoyles. Brookyn set Elizabeth down as Griff and Arthur land.

"Liz. Go with them to the sword. We'll take care of them." Brooklyn said. Elizabeth nodded as Hudson told Griff and Arthur to head to the sword. Elizabeth pulled out her gun as she ran with Arthur and Griff towards the gate. The man flew at them as he shot at them. Griff, Arthur, and Elizabeth burst through the gate to avoid being shot. Elizabeth could hear the fight as they go through the maze.

"I may be timeless, but I'll be ancient before we get through this!" Arthur said. They came to a deadend.

"We keep finding deadends." Elizabeth said.

"No place to get any height for gliding. So might I suggest the direct approach?" Griff said, pulling out his gun. He started blasting through walls as Elizabeth and Arthur followed. They blast through the final wall and saw MacBeth with his hand on Excalibur.

"No!" Arthur yelled. Elizabeth pointed her gun at MacBeth.

"Don't you dare MacBeth." Elizabeth said. MacBeth gave an evil grin.

"Excalibur is mine!" Arthur said. The three charge at MacBeth. MacBeth pulled out the sword. "No." MacBeth held up the sword in triumph. Elizabeth gritted her teeth.

"Hah. Your time is past, Arthur Pendragon! MacBeth, son of Findlaech, is the one true King!" MacBeth said. A storm was forming over them. The wind picked up.

"No! This is wrong!" Griff yelled. He points the gun at MacBeth and MacBeth shoots the gun out of his hand. Arthur charges and MacBeth tosses the gun aside and him and Arthur were in a deadlock fight.

"You will kneel to me!" MacBeth said. Arthur shoves MacBeth away.

"Never!" Arthur said. He goes for an attack and MacBeth blocks him. Arthur knocks MacBeth into the ground. MacBeth kicks Arthur sending him flying into the ground. It started raining as Arthur and MacBeth were still fighting.

"I freed the sword from the stone. An honest man would reconize his true king and yield." MacBeth said.

"Ah, you are right. It is a hard thing, but I yield." Arthur said. Elizabeth and Griff ran to Arthur.

"Arthur no." Elizabeth said.

"Fight for it!" Griff said.

"MacBeth is wrong. You are the once and future king!" Elizabeth said. Lightning struck the dragon. Elizabeth gasped as the ground started trembling. Arthur, Griff, and Elizabeth fell to the ground. They looked up and Elizabeth's eyes widen as another lightning hit the dragon and its eyes glowed red.

"The dragon." Griff said. The dragon spread its wings as Elizabeth scrambled to her feet. Smoke came out of holes in its neck.

"Avalon." Elizabeth said. Fire came out of its mouth and the four scattered. MacBeth ran at it.

"In for a penny, in for a pound!" Griff said, his eyes glowed as him, Arthur, and Elizabeth ran at the Dragon. Elizabeth took some shots at the Dragon. The dragon blasts fire and Elizabeth jumps out of the way as Griff flew at it as it knocked Arthur to the ground. The dragon knocks the sword out of MacBeth's hand.

"Excalibur!" MacBeth yelled as the sword goes flying. Arthur catches it. "No its mine!"

"You can have it." Elizabeth's eyes widen as Arthur hits the sword against the Dragon and it breaks. "It's not Excalibur!" Arthur tosses the sword to MacBeth.

"It wasn't real." Elizabeth said.

"Arthur behind you!" Griff said. The Dragon grabs Arthur and then grabs MacBeth. Griff grabs the tail as the Dragon takes off into the sky. Elizabeth turned and ran back towards the gate to get the Gargoyles. She runs out to see one Henchman pinned under the tree and Brooklyn and Lexington were wrestling the other. Hudson grabs part of the gate and runs to help the lads. Brooklyn and Lexington pin her to a tree.

"Hudson now." Brooklyn said. Hudson wraps the gate around the girl. Brooklyn turned and saw Elizabeth.

"Where's the others?" Brooklyn said. Elizabeth pointed towards the dragon.

"There." Elizabeth said as the dragon roared.

"Jalapena." Lexington said.

"We've gotta help them!" Brooklyn said as Elizabeth ran to him.

"But there's nothing to climb." Hudson said as Lexington ran to the flying machines. "To get enough height to follow." Lexington moved the machines so they were like stairs.

"This way guys! Takes the stairs." Lexington said.

"Brooklyn. Your gonna need to have your arms free. Get me on one of them and I can fly after the dragon." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn nodded.

"Good work, Lex." Brooklyn said. Brooklyn ran with Elizabeth and jumps on one of them and sets Elizabeth on one as he jumps off in the air. The others quickly follow and start flying. It took Elizabeth a minute and she figured out how to work the machine and got it flying after the Gargoyles.

"I think I'm gonna keep this." Elizabeth said as she caught up to the Gargoyles.

"Why need it when you got me." Brooklyn said with a smirk. Elizabeth stuck out her tongue at her boyfriend.

"You can't always carry me during fights." Elizabeth said. They got over the dragon. The dragon turned its head and blasted fire at them. The Gargoyles and Elizabeth move out of the way. Brooklyn landed on the machine Elizabeth was flying. Griff jumps up onto the dragons back and digs its nails into its back. The dragon roars in pain. Elizabeth got closer as the Dragon comes to a stop. Brooklyn jumps off as the Trio flies to distract it from biting Griff. Elizabeth aimed her gun and took a few shots at the dragon.

"Liz. Move!" Brooklyn yelled as the dragon opened its mouth and shot fire at her. She moved out of the way fast. Hudson hit the dragon in the head with his sword. MacBeth and Arthur were struggling to get free.

"Griff I need you. Elizabeth can you distract the dragon a minute." Arthur called. Griff jumped on the arm and crushed it. The dragon roared as Elizabeth took shots at the dragon. Griff grabs Arthur before he falls and tosses him onto the chest of the dragon.

"Be Careful." Elizabeth called. Arthur takes the maces and slams it against the red jewel on the Dragon's chest. Elizabeth gasped as the dragon roars in pain and Arthur sat holding Excalibur. The dragon crumbles to pieces and Elizabeth puts her arm up to block the light. Griff catches Arthur as he falls and lands on the ground. Elizabeth lands on the ground and gets off the machine. The Gargoyles set MacBeth down. MacBeth walked up to Arthur and fell to his knees. Elizabeth had her hands on her hips with a smirk on her face.

"You are the one." MacBeth said.

"Yes. THough you too are a King. You know Excalibur is mine." Arthur said, holding up the sword and it lights up. MacBeth tosses the broken swrod to the ground. Arthur comes up to him and helps him stand up. Brooklyn landed beside Elizabeth and put a hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him and smiled. He returned the smile. "No King can lead without his knights. You have fought a good fight. I would have you with me."

"I have been a king too long to serve any man, but if you ever need me to stand by your side. I will come." MacBeth said. Him and Arthur shook hands.

Back at the clocktower. The sun was starting to rise.

"What will you do now?" Hudson asked.

"I will stay through the day, but tomorrow night, I must begin another quest to find my friend and teacher, Merlin. And somehow, I must get Griff back to London." Arthur said. Elizabeth eyes lit up at the words he would stay. Brooklyn chuckled.

"The truth is, I'd rather stay with you." Griff said. Arthur turned his back to Griff.

"Only a knighted champion can travel with me now." Arthur said.

"Yes, well. I understand, of course and it's been an adventure." Griff said. He turns to look over the city. "A story for the Hatchlings someday." Elizabeth looked at Brooklyn.

"I think it will." Elizabeth said. Brooklyn smiled as he wrapped an arm around Elizabeth and kissed her on the check. Arthur turned Griff to face him.

"I could not ask for a better champion at my side." Arthur said. Griff got hon his knees. Arthur puts his sword on one shoulder then the other. "By my hand by this sword, I name thee knight, Sir Griff." Brooklyn let Elizabeth go as the sun rose and all the Gargoyles turn to stone.

"King Arthur. I would bed delighted to hear stories from you about your adventures." Elizabeth said. Arthur smiled.

"I would be honored." Arthur said. Elizabeth showed Arthur into the clocktower.
