Raving:
I was standing alone in the examination room in the back of the veterinarian clinic as I waited for Scott to get here and I jumped up on to the metal table gracefully. I was wearing a Vila Black Sleeveless Mesh Panel Blouse, PAIGE DENIM Skyline Ankle Denim Jeans and Black plain synthetic reslee fold over top military boots with my brunette hair in a messy bun. Scott had asked me to meet him here so that we could ask Alan Deaton's for his help dealing with the kanima and I had gotten here before him because I wanted to talk to my mentor privately before my brother got there. I closed my eyes as I enjoyed the rare moment of silence and swung my legs childishly back and forth as I hummed quietly to myself.
"I see you're making yourself useful." Dr Deaton said cheerfully as he entered the room and I smiled as I opened my eyes to see the vet standing in the doorway with a faint smile.
"I'm not working today, Doc. This is a purely social visit." I replied to him as I my hands on either side of legs and he walked further into the room as he quirked an eyebrow curiously.
"And what is it I can do for you, Sophie?"
"Listen." I stated in a small voice as I glanced down at the floor for a second and then back up at him with my eyes shining with the distressed tears I kept hidden behind emotional walls. Alan Deaton was one of the only people I felt comfortable enough to see behind the carefully constructed walls I had built and that was only because he could see through them without trying. There was something about him that made it easier for me to be open with my emotions and as hard as I tried to fight it at the beginning after years of knowing him, I knew most of his secrets so I trusted him with mine.
"I'm always here to listen to you, Sophie. You know that." he told me honestly as he strolled over to lean against the counter in front of me and I offered him a small smile. I took a deep breath to prepare myself to say out loud the words I had been trying so hard to keep buried and licked my dry lips as I centred myself.
"I feel like I'm being pulled in three different directions. In one corner, Jackson is my best friend and I don't want anything bad to happen to him. I don't know what I would do if he wasn't in my life. I know that something bad is happening to him, and he's killing all these people, but that isn't really him. I know him better than I know myself, and that thing isn't Jackson. It's not." I said passionately with tears in my eyes as I placed my hands behind me to rest on the cold metal table and Alan crossed his arms over his chest as he watched me sympathetically. "I know that he's the one killing people, and that's where Derek's right. If it was anyone else that was the kanima and not Jackson, I would probably be right there with Derek trying to kill them. We don't know what the kanima is really capable of and if the bestiary we translated is right than it's only going to get worse before it gets better. I don't want anyone to get hurt or killed, but that includes Jack." I told him honestly as I slumped my shoulders in defeat as I wiped a tear off my cheek and sniffled lightly as I smiled shakily to reassure Alan that I was alright when he frowned at me in concern. "Scott has good intention. He doesn't want to hurt Jackson but at the same time he doesn't want anyone else to get hurt either. It would be the obvious choice, right? He's my twin brother, wants to protective everyone but it's not that easy. Don't agree with everything he does. When Derek was turning Isaac, Erica and Boyd, Scott was against it but I wasn't. I understood why Derek was changing them. I understood why they were agreeing to be changed. I was even the one that suggested Derek change Erica. Scott never would have asked to be turned into a werewolf because he didn't even know about the supernatural before he was bitten. You know that I've known about the supernatural since I was ten. How could I not have thought about being turned?"
"Would you have asked Talia to change you?" Dr Deaton asked me curiously as he tilted his head to the side and I looked up at him as I pursed my lips I thought. I searched his gaze for signs of judgement but could only see curiosity and understanding in his eyes.
"I don't know. It doesn't matter now. Let's just say I wouldn't take the cure if there was one. Being a werewolf suits me. Peter was right about that at least." I murmured quietly as cleared my throat gently and slipped down from the metal table gracefully. I sighed to myself as I wiped some fallen tears from my cheeks and took a deep breath as I focused on masking the vulnerability I had displayed. I hated showing weakness in front of others because it gave them ammunition to use against me and I always made sure that people I didn't trust only saw the confident girl I pretended to be. It was one of the things that Lydia and I had in common. "So, Scott will be here soon and you can help us defeat the current evil affecting our town. I swear, I feel like Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
"Hm. I don't know anything more about the kanima than you." Alan informed me apologetically as I nodded in understanding and gave him a grateful smile for ignoring the personality transplant that had just taken place.
"Vampire's would be easier to face. We already know how to fight them. Fire, stake to the heart, garlic."
"Oh, god, no. Please tell me there aren't any vampire's running around town." Scott complained from the doorway to the examination room and I turned to face him with a smirk on my lips.
"You're safe, Scott. Calm down." I told him mockingly as I walked around the metal table in the middle of the room and he grinned at me crookedly as he followed me to the back door. I leaned against the wall with my arms crossed over my chest and laid my head back as I watched Scott walk over to the door. He threw it open wide to reveal Derek standing there with Isaac behind him and I quirked an eyebrow at the Beta werewolf.
"What's he doing here?" Scott asked in irritation as the two other werewolves strolled into the room and Isaac shot him an annoyed glare.
"I need him." Derek replied simply as he stopped in the middle of the room and Scott closed the back door.
"I don't trust him."
"Yeah, well, he doesn't trust you either." Isaac counted in the same aggravated tone as he pushed past Scott and I chuckled slightly at them as Derek sighed.
"Derek really doesn't care. Now where's the vet? Is he gonna help us or not?" Derek asked as he crossed his arms over his chest and raised an eyebrow at me in question.
"That depends. Your friend, Jackson. Are we planning to kill him or save him?" Alan asked from the doorway that joined the two rooms and I pushed myself off from the wall.
"Kill him."
"Save him."
"Save him." Derek, Scott and I all answered at the same time and Deaton quirked an eyebrow at us in amusement as I turned to glare at Derek. The Alpha glared back at me for a second before sighing and looking away. I turned back to the vet with a small triumphant smile and he smiled back faintly with a knowingly glint in his eyes.
"Save him." I repeated firmly as I nodded once and Alan nodded back as he gestured for all of us to follow him in other room. I strolled through the door past him and immediately headed over to the cabinet over the sink that I knew held all of the secret supernatural things that he kept in the office. As I gathered all the different containers that I thought might be helpful, the others made a loose circle around the metal examination table in the middle of the room. Once I had all I thought would be helpful, I walked over to the table on the opposite side that Scott, Derek and Isaac were standing and placed them in front of Dr Deaton. The veterinarian sent me a small smile as he picked up one of the small plastic sample containers and I leaned my elbows on the table top as I bit on my lower lip. Isaac matched my position on the other side of the examination table as Derek and Scott watched Alan curiously.
"Watch what you touch." Derek scolded Isaac as he grabbed the Beta's wrist before he could touch one of the containers holding a green herb and I smirked in amusement as I picked up the same container without a problem. Derek rolled his greyish eyes at me as Isaac smirked at the Alpha and Scott chuckled at my smart-ass act.
"So, what are you? Some kind of witch?" Isaac asked Deaton in a slightly mocking voice as he looked up at the vet and I ducked my head to hide the smile that broke out across my lips at the misconception.
"No, I'm a veterinarian." Alan replied in a calm voice as he looked the Beta squarely in the eye and Isaac pulled back a little as I chuckled at his expression. I watched as Deaton pulled the tray of containers closer to him and pick up each one to read the label on it. "Unfortunately, I don't see anything here that's going to be an effective defence against a paralytic toxin."
"We're open to suggestions." Derek told him with defeat in his voice as he placed his hands on the table and shook his head slightly in exasperation.
"What about an effective offense?" Isaac suggested with a raised eyebrow as he stood up straight and looked at all of us in turn.
"We already tried. I nearly took its head off. And Argent emptied an entire clip into it. The thing just gets back up."
"Has it shown any weaknesses?" Dr Deaton asked curiously as he pressed his lips into a line and I sighed slightly as I folded my arms on the table.
"Well, one - it can't swim."
"Does that go for Jackson as well?"
"No. He's the captain of the swim team. His cheekbones are aerodynamically suited for speed in water." I stated knowingly as I pushed myself up from the metal table and everyone looked at me with weird out expression so I just shrugged my shoulders.
"Essentially, you're trying to catch two people. A puppet – " Deaton explained as he picked up a silver coin from the tray on the table and held it up for us all to see before spinning it to face the other side. " – and a puppeteer. One killed the husband, but the other had to take care of the wife. Do we know why?"
"I don't think Jackson could do it. His mother died pregnant too, and she was maybe murdered. I think he couldn't let the same thing happen to someone else."
"How do you know it's not part of the rules? The kanima kills murderers. If Jackson kills the wife, then the baby dies too." Isaac said thoughtfully from the other side of the table and I looked over at him with a seriously expression as I pondered what he said.
"Does that mean your father was a murderer?" I asked him carefully as I crossed my arms over my chest and he looked at me in silence for a second. For a second, I could see the boy that I used to know in his eyes and it gave me hope that he was still in there somewhere.
"Wouldn't surprise me if he was."
"Hold on." I exclaimed suddenly as a thought popped into my mind and everyone looked at me in shock as I smiled widely. "The book says they're bonded, right?" I asked rhetorically as I picked up a jar of ash from the tray on the table and all the other werewolves nodded in answer anyway. "What if the fear of water isn't coming from Jackson, but from the person controlling him?" I suggested excitedly as I opened the jar and snatched the coin from Alan's hand carefully. I laid the coin down in the middle of the examination table so that everyone could see it and concentrated as I carefully drew a circle around the coin with the black mountain ash. "What if something that affects the kanima also affects its master?"
"Meaning what?" Isaac asked me with a raised eyebrow as he looked down at the table and then back up at me. Everyone turned to look at me with small smiles of understanding and I placed the jar of mountain ash back down on the table.
"Meaning we can catch them. Both of them."
I climbed out of the backseat of Stiles jeep in my Jawbreaker Red Tartan Dress, BC Footwear Pick Me Up and my hair out in loose waves and waited for Scott and Stiles patiently at the front of the car. I combed a hand through my hair to make sure that it was still styled perfectly and smiled tightly at some of the other students that called out greeting from afar.
"There's got to be some other way to get tickets, right?" Scott suggested desperately as he joined me at the front of the car and I linked my arm through his with a smile.
"It's a secret show. There's only one way, and it's a secret." I told him in amusement as I rolled my eyes at him and he nudged me in the ribs as we started walking towards the front of the school. Stiles walked on my other side with a thoughtful expression and I linked my other arm through his like we used to in elementary school. I knew that I had a silly grin on my lips as I practically skipped in between the two boys and I noticed Matt strolled over to us.
"Hey. Any of you guys know why no one's getting suspended after what happened the other day at school?" Matt asked us in confusion as we stopped in front of him and Stiles sighed dramatically as he unlinked our arms.
"Just forget about it. Nobody got hurt." Stiles exclaimed in annoyance as he waved his hands in the air and I pressed my lips together to smother the laughter I felt at the comical sight.
"I - I had a concussion."
"Well, nobody got seriously hurt."
"I was in the E.R. for six hours."
"Hey, do you want to know the truth, Matt? Your little bump on the head is about this high on our list of problems right now." Stiles snapped loudly as he squatted down to the ground and held his hand a few inches off of the pavement. Matt shot him a half irritated half incredulous frown and I chuckled at them both as I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Are you okay?" Scott asked him politely as he elbowed me in the ribs for finding this amusing and Stiles stood back up with a glare at Matt.
"Yeah, I'm fine now." He answered him as he drew his gaze away from Stiles and Scott nodded with a faint smile. "So you didn't get any tickets last night either."
"Are they still selling?"
"Uh, no, but I managed to find two online. You should keep trying. Sounds like everyone's gonna be there." Matt said with a small smile before to shot another look at me and Stiles and then walked away towards the school without a backwards glance.
"I don't like him." Stiles said vehemently as he stared after Matt's retreating back and I smirked with a small chuckle as I nodded in agreement. My friend huffed out a breath that made his cheeks puff out and then turned to face Scott and I with a frown. "Hey, are you sure about this?"
"Last time, whoever's controlling Jackson had to kill somebody because he didn't finish the job, so what do you think he's going to do this time?" I asked him knowingly as I unlinked my arm through his and gave him a pointed look that he rolled his eyes at.
"Be there to make sure it happens." He replied drily as Scott laughed at us and we all started strolling towards the front of the school together.
"So, you guys have morning practice?" I asked them both with a smile as we entered the school and I smirked smugly at the stares that we were receiving from both guys and girls in the hallway.
"Yeah, we're meant to be there in a few minutes." Scott said with a nod as we turned the corner to walk down the hallway that leads to the boy's locker room.
"Ooh, well, lucky for you I have a free period right now and I'm completely able and willing to come and support my twin brother and my adoptive brother as they train with all their might so that our school can beat whatever school we're playing next." I declared with mock-serious as I pursed my lips together and they both stared at me for a second before we all burst out laughing. We came to a stop in front of the locker room door and Scott unlinked his arm from mine to push open the door. Stiles unlinked his arm from mine as he walked past us and I scowled at him as I walked into the room after him. "It's meant to be 'ladies first', you loser."
"What does that have to do with you?" he asked me in teasing confusion as he glanced at me over his shoulder and I playfully gasped as I pushed on the back of his shoulder making him stubble forward a little.
"Alright, alright." Scott scolded us lightly as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pointed a finger at Stiles when he opened his mouth to retaliate. It was so much like the olden days with Stiles and I arguing and Scott playing mediator that I had to smile as I snuggled into my twin brother's side. the other members of the lacrosse team didn't even play me much mind as I walked through the locker room where they were half dressed. I smiled when I saw a shirtless Danny sitting on one of the benches near the lockers and I slipped out of Scott's embrace to skip over to sit down next to him.
"Can anybody tell me where the hell Jackson is and why he missed morning practice?" Coach asked loudly as he came out of his office with a scowl etched on his face and he glanced around the room for the co-captain.
"I thought I told you to keep an eye on him." Stiles whispered harshly to Scott from where he was standing next to me and I turned my head around to quirk an eyebrow at my brother.
"Stilinski!" Coach snapped at him making Stiles jump in surprise as he spun around to face him and I smothered a laugh in my hand at his terrified expression. "Jackson?"
"Sorry, Coach, I haven't seen him since the last time I saw him."
"Oh, and when was that?"
"Last time I saw him was definitely the time I saw him last."
"Yeah, again. Danny, tell Jackson no missing practice this close to the championships, okay?" Coach said slowly as he frowned at Stiles in confusion for a second and then turned his attention to Jackson's male best friend.
"Sure, Coach." Danny assured him with a nod as he leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees and I immediately leant my chin on his shoulder comfortably.
"That goes for all of you. I should be coaching college." He murmured mostly to himself as he rolled his eyes at his team and I quirked an eyebrow in amusement. Coach's gaze around the locker room in slightly disgust before his eyes landed on me and I smiled back at him innocently. "Female McCall! What are you doing in my locker room?"
"Come on, Coach. I've already seen most of these guys naked anyway." I told him with a smirk as all the boys turned to look at me and I heard Scott groan behind me as Coach raised an eyebrow at me.
"Greenberg?"
"Oh, god, no."
"You can stay." He said reluctantly after a moment of silence and I smiled smugly as he walked back into his office before slamming the door shut. Everyone started talking amongst themselves again instantly once he was gone and Stiles immediately crouched down next to me facing Danny.
"Danny, did you get tickets to the rave tonight?" he asked the other lacrosse player as his blinked quickly and Danny frowned at him a little as he nodded his head. "Can I buy one off you?"
"Sorry, but I only got two myself." Danny answered him with a shrug of his shoulders and Stiles stood up abruptly as he opened his mouth before snapping it shut again.
"What - do you even have a date yet?"
"I'm working on it."
"Okay, okay. Hear me out. You give us the tickets, and you devote your life to abstinence and just – " Stiles started to say but Danny just rolled his eyes at him and stood up as he looked at me with a raised eyebrow, silently asking me why I hung out with him. I sighed tiredly back at him and he smiled slightly as he walked away from us. I turned around to straddle of the bench as I faced my brother and friend with a smirk on my lips.
"How do you two losers even survive?" Isaac asked them as he appeared behind them and I laughed lightly as Stiles jumped in surprise.
"What are we supposed to do? No one's even selling." Scott replied in frustration as he ran a hand through his messy hair and Isaac smirked at them as he pushed past their shoulders.
"Wait here, boys."
"What is he gonna - ?" Scott asked rhetorically as he watched Isaac walk over to two freshmen lacrosse players on the other side of the room.
"Ow. Oh, my - yup. That's excessive. That'll bruise." Stiles commented with a grimace as we watched Isaac bash one of the kids head into the metal locker behind him and then gripped the other in a head lock until he turned blue. The two freshmen silently handed the tickets over to the Beta before sprint away and I raised my eyebrows at Isaac as he turned back to us.
"Enjoy the show." Isaac told them before with a smirk as he slapped the tickets against their chest and then winked at me before sauntering out of the locker room. Stiles and Scott both looked down at the tickets in their hands and I chuckled lightly as I stood up from the bench.
"Well, that's great but what about you, Soph?" Scott asked me in concern as he frowned at me and I quirked an eyebrow at him as I smirked. Without a word, I climbed up to stand on the bench and whistled shrilly so that everyone in the locker room turned to look at me.
"Who wants to take me to the rave tonight!?" I asked loudly as I held my arms open and nearly everyone in the room silently raised their hand in the air. I looked down at my brother with a smug smirk as I shrugged delicately and he rolled his dark brown one at me as he held a hand to help me down from the bench.
After school that day Scott, Stiles and I met back up with Deaton at the vet clinic to go over the plan for the rave that night. Alan grabbed a clear vial of ketamine from the medicinal cabinet where we kept all of the drugs and I leaned on the table next to Scott while Stiles stood with his arms crossed at the end of the table.
"Ketamine?" Scott asked in confusion with a frown as he read the name on the label and Deaton smile faintly as he placed the frug down on the table.
"It's the same stuff we use on the dogs, just a higher dosage. If you can get close enough to Jackson, it should slow him down enough to buy you some time." the vet answered as he turned back around to walk over to the cabinet that held the magical compounds and opened the door to grab the jar of mountain ash. He shook the jar slightly as he turned back to face us and held the jar up in Stiles' direction for him to see. "This is some of what you'll use to create the barrier. This part is for you, Stiles. Only you."
"Uh, that sounds like a lot of pressure. Can we maybe find a slightly less pressure - filled task for me?" Stiles asked in a nervously voice as he shifted on his feet and stared blankly at the jar of ash and I shot him a look that he just shrugged innocently at.
"It's from the Mountain ash tree, which is believed by many cultures to protect against the supernatural. This office is lined with ashwood, making it difficult for someone like Scott and Sophie to cause me any trouble."
"Okay, so then what? I just spread this around the whole building and then either Jackson or whoever's controlling him can't cross it?'
"They'll be trapped. Along with every other supernatural creature." I confirmed with a nod as I pushed myself up straighter and tossed my hair over my shoulder so it wasn't in my way.
"Doesn't sound too hard." Scott said optimistically to his best friend with a shrug and Stiles pursed his lips together as he turned to glare at him.
"That's not all there is. Think of it like gunpowder. It's just powder until a spark ignites it. You need to be that spark, Stiles." Deaton explained as he placed the jar down on the table and nodded his head in the human's direction.
"If you mean light myself on fire, I don't think I'm up for that." Stiles remarked drily as he stared at the jar in distain and I chuckled lightly as he looked up at the vet.
"Let me try a different analogy. I used to golf. I learned that the best golfers never swing before first imagining where they want the ball to go. They see it in their mind and their mind takes over. It can be pretty extraordinary what the force of your own will can accomplish. If - if this is going to work, Stiles, you have to believe it."
"Just think Peter Pan. Or Dumbo. Basically any Disney movie." I commented in amusement with a small smile as I shrugged my shoulders and Scott ducked his head to hide a smile as Deaton smiled faintly.
"Mm - hmm." Stiles murmured to himself sarcastically as he took a deep breath and nodded to himself in preparation as I smiled at him in amusement.
I walked into the warehouse where the rave was taking place in my Meow Whiskers Tank, Galaxy High Waisted Denim Shorts High Waste Shorts and Ash Tramp Moto Boot with my hair in a braid down my back. Scott was standing next to me looking around nervously and I had to cringe at the loud music that was piercing my ears because of my supernatural hearing.
"I'm going to find Allison!" Scott called over the music as he placed a hand on my elbow to get my attention and I nodded in understanding as I smiled reassuringly. He gave my elbow an affectionate squeeze before walking away into the crowd and I noticed some of the people at the side of the dance floor looking at me. I smirked smugly to myself as I held my head up high and walked further into the room as people watched my pass. The dance music flowed out of the speakers from the DJ at the front of the dance floor and I smiled as I walked passed dancing couples until someone grabbed a hold of my elbow. I immediately spun around to face them with my hands clenched into fists in case I needed to fend off some creep guy that couldn't take no for an answer but relaxed when I saw that it was Isaac.
"Can I help you?" I asked him pointedly as I pulled my elbow out of his grasp and he smirked at me as he grabbed one of my hands. He pulled me closer to him so that I could feel the heat rising off of his body and I gasped at the sudden closeness.
"Nice shirt." Isaac complimented me with a smirk as his eyes trailed down to the tank top I was wearing and I quirked an eyebrow at him with a smirk. "Dance with me." he demanded in a light voice as he intertwined our fingers and I sighed dramatically as I fought a smile. I wrapped one arm over his shoulder and placed the other on his chest as his hands found my waist comfortably.
"Last time we danced, I had to beg you." I reminded him with a quirked eyebrow as I smiled at him and he ducked his head as he chuckled.
"Yeah, well, things change."
"You know when Derek told me why you agreed to get the bite, I was so angry that that I lost control and turned. It was only the second time that I had transformed accidentally. I was just so... I don't even know how to describe what I felt. I was upset that it happened to you, I was mad at you for not telling me, I wanted to kill your dad, but most of all I was mad at myself for not noticing it in the first place." I confided in him softly as we slowly swayed out of time with the fast dance music and Isaac opened his mouth to protest but I just smiled gently as I shook my head. "It's true. I should have noticed. I spent most of my time at Jackson's house. All of those bruises, I was stupid to believe those lies about them being from lacrosse. You're kind of a horrible liar, Isaac."
"I'm a great liar."
"No, you're not." I counted calmly as I smirked at his mock outraged expression and I sighed as I glanced away from him. "I miss you. I miss my friend. It's great that being a werewolf has given you confidence. Some might mistake it for arrogance, but I know different because I'm the same. I mask vulnerability with bitchiness, you mask it with cockiness." I said as I turned my head to look him in the eye with an understanding smile and he stared at me blankly but I could see the glint of awe in his eyes. "You've turned into a completely different person. You've turned into yourself. But I miss the sweet, understanding guy that was my friend. I want a chance to know the new you. I have a feeling we would get along great." I joked lightly with a small smirk as I tightened my hold on his shoulder and he matched my smirk as he squeezed my hip affectionately. I stepped forward and rested my chin on his shoulder as he wrapped his hand around my waist to hold me closer to him.
"I miss you too." He whispered quietly for only me to hear and I smiled happily as I pulled away to press a kiss to his cheek.
"Once all this stupid kanima business is taken care of, and I'm back to being Switzerland between Scott and Derek, you and I are going to hang out like normal people."
"Define normal when you're a werewolf." he said with a half amused half incredulous frown as he looked down at me and I pursed my lips in mock thought.
"Well, we could always have a fright night." I told him with a grin as I bounced a little on my toes and he laughed a little at my obvious excitement.
"Okay, now define 'fright night'."
"Popcorn, alcohol, horror movies about the supernatural. Ooh! American Werewolf in London!" I exclaimed happily as I slapped his chest lightly in my eagerness and Isaac nodded in agreement with a grin.
"Sophie, Isaac!" Scott shouted to us over the music from a few feet away and I frowned as I pulled away from Isaac to look over at my brother. Scott motioned wildly with his hand for us to follow him and I rolled my eyes at his lack of subtlety as I grabbed Isaac's hand before pulling him with me over to where Scott was standing. My brother lead us behind a pillar so that we were hidden from the view of the public and I dropped Isaac's hand as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"What's up, Scott?" I asked my brother as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration and I quirked an eyebrow at him in question.
"Allison told the Argent's that Jackson is the kanima." Scott informed us quietly as he leaned forward and I gaped in shock as my arms fell weakly to my side.
"What!?"
"The hunters are coming here." He told me softly as he watched me with sympathetic dark brown eyes and I tears sprung in my eyes so I closed them as I counted to ten in my head to calm myself down.
"Gerard is a shoot first, questions later kind of guy, Scott. He isn't going to play defence, he's going to kill Jackson in his human form." I said in a helpless voice as I wrapped an arm around my stomach and Isaac placed his hand on the small of my back in comfort as Scott nodded slowly empathy.
"What do we do then?" Isaac asked Scott with a grim expression as he leaned his shoulder on the pillar and I sighed heavily as I crossed my arms over my chest. "Has the plan changed?"
"No, the plan is the same." Scott replied firmly as he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the needle that contained a clear liquid. "Alright, here's the ketamine injection."
"Why me?" Isaac asked him curiously with a raised eyebrow as he accepted the needle from Scott carefully and I frowned at my brother in confusion.
"Because I got to make sure that Argent doesn't completely ruin the plan."
"Okay, look, you better do it intravenously which means in the vein. When you find him, you pull back on this plunger right here. In the neck probably is going to be the easiest. So you find a vein, you jam it in there, and pull back on the trigger." I explained softly as I turned to face Isaac with a serious expression and he nodded in understanding as he looked at the plunger curiously. "Be careful." I warned him sternly as I placed my hand on his wrist and he looked at me with a slight smirk on his lips.
"Oh, I doubt it'll even slightly hurt him." Isaac assured me in a light voice as he shrugged his shoulders and I shook my head at him with a small smile.
"No, I mean you. I don't want you to get hurt." I corrected him as I removed my hand from his wrist and his head snapped up in surprise at my words. His silvery eyes were wide in shock that someone actually cared and that made me even more angry at myself for not being there for him. "If something goes wrong, just yell and I'll be there. I'll be dancing close to you, Erica and Jack just in case."
"You're going to dance by yourself?" Isaac asked me with a smirk as he tucked the syringe into his jacket pocket and I scrunched my face up in mock outrage.
"Please." I said with a scoff at the insult as I tossed my braid over my shoulder and turned around as I sauntered away from him. I strolled out into the middle of the dance floor and immediately started moving in time to the dance music playing from the DJ's booth. I felt someone come up behind me and place their hands on my hips so I instantly spun around to face them. I smiled saucily at the hot guy that was standing in front of me with his hands on my hips and he smirked back as we danced together in time with the music. From the corner of my eye, I saw Isaac and Erica approach Jackson a few couples away and start dancing provocatively to distract him. I turned my attention back to the guy in front of me with a smile and he took that as permission to pull me closer to his body. My head snapped around when I heard someone let out a groan of pain and I immediately saw Isaac and Erica both lying on the ground a few feet away. I pulled away from the guy I was dancing with instantly and ran to where they were slowly pushing themselves up onto their knees. I looked around wildly for any sign of Jackson and saw his retreating back pushing through the crowded dance floor. Panic shot through me as I looked around the ground for the needle of ketamine because I knew that he was going to kill someone. Isaac and Erica both slowly climbed to their feet just as I saw the needle on the floor by Isaac's feet and quickly dropped to my knees to pick it up before it could get stepped on accidently. With the needle in my hand, I took off after Jackson as I pushed past the happily dancing couples and I approached my best friend from behind. I raised the needle discreetly as I could so that I didn't startle any of the rave attendees and quickly jabbed the metal needle into the external jugular vein in his neck before pushing down the plunger. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Jackson." I whispered sadly into his ear as he gasped in surprise and immediately collapsed into me as I used my werewolf strength to keep him upright.
"Hey, I got him." Isaac said as he came up behind me with Erica trailing after him and I nodded shakily as Isaac grabbed one of Jack's arms to wrap it around his neck so that he was easier to carry. Erica began leading us out the back of the warehouse where we had set up a room to keep Jackson in as I wrapped an arm around his waist and then followed after her with Isaac. We got to the back room quickly and I was relieved that the music was dimmed by the cement walls because it was starting to make my ears ring with the volume. Isaac took most of Jackson's weight off of me as he walked further into the room and dumped my best friend of the chair in the middle of the room unceremoniously as I walked over to lean against the wall. Erica stood in the middle of the room unsurely as she stared at an unconscious Jackson and Isaac walked over to stand next to me. we all jumped when the door squeaked opened and spun around with our claws drawn in case we needed to fight someone but it was only Stiles.
"Uh, no, no, no! Just me, it's just me. Don't freak. He okay?" Stiles asked us as he nodded his head towards Jackson with a frown and then glanced in my direction because he knew how hard this was for me.
"Well - let's find out." Isaac said as he strolled over to where Jackson was slumped on the chair and extended his claws as he went to swipe at Jackson but his arm was grabbed instantly before he could come into contact. I gasped in shock as I pushed myself off of the wall and Isaac grunted in pain as his bone cracked under the pressure. "God – " he moaned in pain as his arm was released and he back away while holding his arm protectively. I moved to stand next to him as he breathed heavily and I placed my hand on his back comfortingly as I stared in horror at Jackson.
"Okay, no one does anything like that again, okay?" Stiles ordered us sternly with panic in his voice as he looked at each of us in turn and we all nodded jerkily in agreement.
"Oh, I thought the ketamine was supposed to put him out." Isaac stated in a strained voice as his bones healed themselves painfully and Stiles sighed as he placed his hands on his hips.
"Yeah, well, apparently this is all we're going to get. So let's just hope that whoever's controlling him just decided to show up tonight." Stiles said calmly as he shook his head slightly and I looked over at Jack with a frown on my lips. I gasped in surprise when his eyes sprung open suddenly and everyone snapped their heads up to look at him.
"I'm here. I'm right here with you." Jackson announced in a voice that wasn't his own but it wasn't exactly someone else either and I took a small step forward as I tilted my head to the side.
"Jackson, is that you?" I asked him in a soothing voice as I walked over to crouch down in front of him but far enough away that I wasn't in reach.
"Us. We're all here."
"Are you the one killing people?"
"We are the ones killing murderers."
"So all the people you've killed so far – "
"Deserved it." He snapped angrily before I could finish my sentence and I nodded sagely as I glanced over my shoulder at Isaac because his father was one of the victims. He looked back at me with a blank expression but I could see the underlining hurt and acceptance in his eyes. I sighed slightly as I turned back to face Jackson and cleared my throat gently as I built up nerve to continue the interrogation.
"See, we got a little rule book that says you only go after murderers." I stated in the same calm voice that I had used before as I searched his face from any sign of human emotion but it was like looking at a blank canvas.
"Anything can break if enough pressures applied."
"All right, so the people you're killing are all murderers then?"
"All. Each. Every one."
"Well, who did they murder?"
"Me." he replied harshly as he scowled deeply and I narrowed my eyes in confusion as Stiles slowly walked over to crouch besides me with a frown on his face.
"Wait, what? What do you mean?" Stiles asked him in a calm voice that shook with hidden nerves and I grasped his hand blindly without taking my eyes off of Jackson.
"They murdered me." he repeated in the same muddled voice as I parted my lips in confusion and I gasped when his normally teal eyes turned a vibrant orange colour. His neck cracked loudly as he turned his head both way and I scrambled to stand up as I pulled Stiles to his feet as well. "They murdered me."
"Okay, all right. More ketamine. The man needs ketamine. Come on." Stiles told us as we all backed up into the corner and I saw that Jackson's arm had turned a scaly green of the kanima.
"We don't have any more." I replied in a small voice as I stared at my best friend in horror and Stiles turned to me with wide honey coloured eyes.
"You used the whole bottle?"
"We had to. It was the only dosage strong enough to knock him out even for a while." I told him earnestly as I turned to look at him apologetically and Jackson slowly stood from the chair with half his body covered in scales. Erica grabbed onto my hand of comfort as the kanima bared it's mouthful of razor sharp teeth at us and then started moving his head around at an inhuman speed.
"Um - okay, out, everybody out."
"Go, go, go, go." Stiles and Isaac both shouted at the same time as we all ran towards the door and I clasped Erica's hand as we closed the metal door after us. I felt tears spring to my eyes as panic surged through me and I tightened my hold on Erica's hand for comfort. The wall next to the door suddenly exploded from inside and I screamed along with the others as the kanima leapt through the hole before running towards the rave.
"Oh, my god." I muttered to myself as I wiped my cheek roughly to get rid of the tear that had escaped and sniffled slightly as I swallowed. I licked my lip nervously as I let go of Erica's hand and turned to face the other's with a plastered on mask of indifference that I had perfected over the years. "We have to get outside." I told them sternly as I looked at each of their terrified expressions and they looked at me in surprise. "Go. Come on."
"Soph…" Stiles started to say to me sympathetically but I just shook my head and turned around before he could finish because I didn't want his pity. It wasn't about me at that moment, it was about Jack and getting everyone else to safety. I wondered back out into the rave and was immediately overwhelmed by the techno music playing as I cringed.
"Hey, um, so we kind of lost Jackson inside, but it's – " I heard Stiles telling someone as I walked outside the door and I saw Derek standing next to him. Erica, Isaac and I walked over to the edge of the railing but couldn't move anymore so I looked down in surprise and saw a ring of mountain ash around the warehouse. "o – oh, my God. It's working. Oh, this is - I did something." Stiles declared proudly when he saw that we couldn't leave and I had to smile slightly at his grin despite the situation. Suddenly, a loud howl ripped through the night air and I immediately looked up at the warehouse with wide eyes when I recognised the sound as Scott.
"Scott?" Derek asked himself softly under his breath as I looked over at him in panic and he looked back at me before turning to Stiles. "Break it."
"What? No way."
"Scott's dying!"
"Okay, what? How do you know that?"
"Oh, my God, Stiles, I just know! Break it!"
"Ah –" Stiles said as he crouched down before swiping a hand over the mountain ash barrier and I immediately jumped down from the cement stairs to follow Derek but the Alpha stepped in front of me.
"Derek, what are you doing? Let's go." I said to him as I went to push pass him but he grabbed my upper arm to stop me and I glared at him heatedly as I tore my arm out of his grip.
"I'll get Scott. You get Isaac, Erica and Boyd back safely." Derek told me sternly as he looked me directly in the eye and I started shaking my head before he could even finish. "I'll take Scott to the vet clinic and you can meet us there, but take care of the Beta's for me first. Boyd was injured fighting the hunters. Stop arguing, you're just wasting time." he said to me calmly when I opened my mouth to say something and I stared at him defiantly for a second before nodding. He nodded back at me before taking off into the warehouse and I covered my face with my hands as I smothered a scream.
