Learning The Truth:

"Aah!" I exclaimed in a mixture of pain and irritation as the cat I was trying to give a needle to scratched my hand with a hiss and I looked up at Deaton with a small glare as he chuckled at my misfortune. I pursed my lips together in annoyance as I bent down so that I was eye level was the cat and I placed my hands on the edge of the examination table on either side of the cat as I narrowed my eyes at the animal. "Listen here, Mittens. You're super lucky that I have super healing because you've scratched the hell out of me. It hurts. So, can you please, for the love of god, stay still so that I stab this needle into your ass?"

"Tell me, is she answering you back?" Deaton asked me in amusement as I lifted my head up to smirk at him over my shoulder and he chuckled softly as he walked over to stand next to. He took the needle from my hand as I sighed and leant my hip against the table as the vet easily gave the needle to the cat.

"Most of the animals love me. This cat's defective." I joked lightly with a slight pout of my lips as I crossed my arms over my chest and Deaton picked up the cat with a smile in my direction. I placed my hands in the pockets of my white lab coat as I watched Deaton take the cat into the kennel and I pulled out my iPad with a sigh as I turned to lean against the table. I clicked onto my bestiary as I bit my lip curiously and searched through the articles for any mention of werewolf eye colour.

"Find anything interesting?" Deaton asked from behind me as I jumped in surprise at his sudden appearance and I pressed a hand to my heart mockingly as he smiled calmly at me. I closed down the bestiary as I turned around to face him and I tilted my head to the side as an idea came to me.

"Can I ask you something?" I asked him hesitantly as I gracefully pushed myself up so that I was sitting on the exam table and he frowned in concern as he turned to face me because I hardly ever asked for permission.

"Of course."

"I know that an Omega or a Beta can become an Alpha by killing the previous Alpha, but is there…is there any other way to ascend?" I asked him slowly as I frowned to myself because I knew that I wasn't expressing myself very well. Deaton sighed heavily with a small knowing smile on his lips and I quirked an eyebrow at him as he stood opposite me against the counter with his arms crossed over his chest.

"There's one other way that I know of. It's extremely rare. It's something that doesn't happen within 100 years, but every once in a while a Beta can become an Alpha without having to steal or take that power. They call it a True Alpha. It's one who rises purely on the strength of the character, by virtue, by sheer force of will." He explained in the same lecturing tone he used when we had supernatural lessons and I listened intently to him as I looked down at the floor in thought. Everything was starting to make sense to me and I licked my lip nervously as I looked up at my mentor seriously.

"I've seen Scott's eyes flash Alpha red. Twice. The mere sound of his voice has brought Isaac out of a state of bloodlust more than once. It's happening, isn't it? Scott's a True Alpha."

"I believe. From the moment I knew he was bitten, I believed."

"That's why Deucalion is so interested in Scott. He wants him in the Alpha pack, or he feels threatened by him and wants to kill him. Either way, Scott's in danger." I said calmly as I gracefully slid off of the table and crossed my arms over my chest with a concerned frown on my lips.

"I'm afraid so." Deaton replied serenely as he nodded his head and I ran a hand through my hair in frustration as I sighed heavily.

"I have another question…" I started quietly as I turned my head to look at the wall to the side of the room and I took a deep breath as I glanced back at the man in front of me. He lifted an eyebrow at me in intrigue as he tilted his head to the side and I bit my lower lip in between my teeth nervously. "Every werewolf, born or turned, starts out with gold eyes. A werewolf's eyes turn blue after killing an innocent. If a werewolf ascends to Alpha status by killing an Alpha, or are this incredibly rare True Alpha like Scott is, then they will have red eyes. That's it, right? Three colours. Yellow, blue or red. There's no fourth option, right?"

"There is one more. But it's an even rarer occurrence than a True Alpha. You've only heard rumours. Whispers in the dark." He told me seriously with a small frown on his lips and I felt tears stinging the back of my eyes as I cleared my throat gently. "The only other colour is…"

"Purple." I interrupted him softly in a knowing voice as I looked up to meet his surprised eyes and he hummed in agreement with a confused frown as I licked my lip nervously.

The cold porcelain against my backs of my bare thighs made a shiver run up my spine as I gasped slightly in shock and Aiden chuckled lowly at my reaction as he leaned in between my legs where I sat on the counter. I cupped his face with my hands with a giggle of my own as I wrapped my legs around his waist and he peppered hot open mouthed kisses down my jawline as I tilted my head back to give him better access. His teeth gently grazed my skin as he slid his hands under the hem of my skirt and my skin erupted with tiny sparks of electricity where he touched me as I sucked in a sharp breath.

"Aiden…" I moaned softly as his fingers played with the edge of my lace panties and I felt him smile against my skin as my eyes drifted closed.

"Say it again." he demanded huskily as his lips slowly moved down to my collarbone and I bit the inside of my cheek to stop myself from giving into his order. Aiden growled lowly against my skin as he tightened his grip on my hips and I gasped in surprise as he roughly pulled me closer to him so that my body pressed against his. My eyes sprung open with a small annoyed huff escaping my lips as he lifted his head away from the top of my breast and I pouted in irritation as I met his chocolate brown eyes that were darkened with lust. "Say it again."

"Say what?" I asked him in mock confusion as I tilted my head to the side with a small frown on my lips and he scowled angrily as he squeezed my hips until I had to inhale sharply with pain. I narrowed my eyes at him as I mentally berated myself for growing more turned on at the authority he spoke with.

"Say my name." Aiden whispered throatily as he leaned down so that his lips grazed my ear and I fought a shudder as I gritted my teeth to stop myself from giving in to him. I silently shook my head at him as he snarled quietly under his breath and he lifted me off of the counter easily as he hooked his hands under my thighs. The friction between our bodies made me hummed with desire as I wrapped my arms around his neck and his eyes flashed a dangerous scarlet as he turned us around quickly before slamming me back into the tilted bathroom wall. I hissed in pain as my head connected with the wall with a sickened crack and I opened my eyes to glare at the Alpha holding me up. Aiden frowned in confusion as his eyes changed back to their normal chocolate brown and I ignored the healing pain at the back of my head as I looked at him in concern.

"What's wrong?" I asked him breathlessly as his hands slowly reached up to cup my chin with one hand and his forehead furrowed in puzzlement as he shook his head slightly.

"Your eyes."

"Seriously?! You stopped to stare into my eyes? That's what you do when you can't get someone to sleep with you!" I snapped at him in frustration as I threw my head back against the wall and he sighed in annoyance as he gently placed me back on the ground.

"No. Your eyes changed colour." He explained carefully with a frown on his lips as I looked at him in confusion and I pushed pass him to walk over to the large mirror with panic flooding through me. I gasped in shock when I saw my normally dark brown eyes were a radiant violet colour and I cautiously reached up to touch just underneath my eye with a shaking hand.

"Oh, my god…" I murmured softly to myself as I stared at my reflection in the mirror and whimpered slightly as I squeezed my eyes closed tightly. I heard Aiden's footsteps approaching me from behind as he placed a hand on the small of my back and I opened my eyes hopefully as I pressed my lips in a tight line. I sighed in relief when I saw that my eyes had changed back to normal and I glanced up at Aiden's confused expression in the reflection of the mirror. "Tell me I'm crazy and I didn't just see what I think I did."

"You're crazy, but you did just see what you think you did." He told me quietly as he meet my eyes in the reflection and I took a shaky breath as I nodded sadly with a frown on my lips. I lowered my head forlornly as I gripped the edge of the porcelain counter tightly and admitted to myself that everything was about to change for the worse. I sniffled slightly as I quickly wiped away a stray tear that had escaped my eye and hoped like hell that Aiden wouldn't see it but he grabbed my wrist as he placed his other hand on my hip gently. "Hey, hey, hey. It will be okay."

"No, it won't, Aiden!" I snapped at him angrily as I pushed his hand away from me with a scowl on my lips and I turned around to face him as he placed his hands on my lips but I brushed them away from me. "Nothing is going to be okay. I'm eyes just randomly changed colour! That's not normal. Werewolf eyes are meant to be yellow, blue or red. That's it! Purple? Purple's not an option!"

"Sophie!" Aiden shouted sharply as I ran a frustrated hand through my hair with a grimace on my lips and I snapped my head around to look at him in shock as he cupped my face in his hands gently. His thumb soothingly rubbed circles on my cheeks as his chocolate brown eyes searched my face in concern and I covered his hands with mine as I closed my eyes tightly so that I wouldn't start crying.

"I don't know what's happening. But I know that everything is about to get a lot worse for me."

"Why do you say that? You find out what's going on, and you handle it. I know you feel overwhelmed at the moment. I felt the same way when Ethan and I learned we could morph."

"That's exactly why!" I exclaimed frantically as I looked into his chocolate brown eyes and he looked at me in confusion as he moved his hands down to my hips comfortably. "Deucalion collects werewolves with unique gifts. I might not know what the hell is going on with me but what do you want to bet Deucalion does?"

"So, kill Derek, become an Alpha, join the pack." He stated calmly as he shrugged his shoulders with a neutral expression and I rolled my eyes with a groan as I shook my head at him but couldn't help a small smile.

"Do you not know me at all? Even if I did kill Derek, I have family and friends here." I reminded him with a quirked eyebrow as I tried to look stern and he opened his mouth to say something but I held up a hand to stop him. "And before you suggest that I kill them all, I would never kill my mother or Scott so you can forget it."

"Hey, come here." Aiden murmured quietly as he slid his hands down the back of my thighs and easily lifted me up onto the counter top as he stepped in between my legs. I sighed tiredly as I placed my hands on his muscular chest and he rested his hands on my hips. "You don't have to worry about it, Sophie. Deucalion isn't going to find out about whatever is going on with you."

"Of course he is, Aiden. As soon as you tell him what happened today, I'm going to be a target. Nothing will stop him from getting what he wants from me. You know that just as well as anyone. I'll either give in to him, or I'll die. And who knows how many people will die as collateral damage."

"Tell him? Sophie, I'm not telling him about this." Aiden protested as he shook his head at me and gave me a look that suggested that I was crazy. I frowned at him in confusion as I looked him straight in the eye and I saw the honesty in his chocolate brown eyes as I listened to his heart beat for any lies but it stayed steady.

"Are you crazy?!" I shouted at him as I slapped his chest hard with my hand with a bewildered frown on my lips and he scowled at me in confusion as he stepped back slightly. "You have to tell him, Aiden. He's going to find out one way or the other and if he knows that you knew and didn't tell him? I don't want to know what he'll do. Do not risk your life for me!" I cried angrily as I gracefully slid off of the counter with an appalled expression and I pushed Aiden back a step as he frowned at me. I couldn't believe that Aiden was talking about risking his life for me when he'd only known me for a few weeks and were only using each other as a distraction from what was going on, or at least I was use him as a distraction from what was going on. I cupped Aiden's face with my hands gently as stepped closer to him so that I could feel the heat radiating from his body and he looked at me with a soft expression as he wrapped his arms around my waist. "Tell him. Tell Deucalion what happened today. Maybe you'll get bonus points for making a discovery." I joked softly with a small smile to try to lighten the dark mood that had settled on us and Aiden chuckled at my comment as he leaned his forehead against mine. There was a small smile on my lips as I brushed my lips against his lightly and he lowered his hands to rest on my ass as he deepened the kiss.

"What does it mean? What does purple mean?" I asked Deaton in a small voice as I wrapped my arms around my stomach and looked at him with scared wide eyes.

"You know what I am." Deaton stated calmly instead of asked me and I frowned in confusion as I nodded hesitantly in answer. "I've spent every moment of the last ten years trying to push something away. Denying it. Lying about it. It becomes a pretty powerful habit. All the symbols and things... the triskeles, the bank logo, the Mountain ash... all of it is from the Celtic druids. Do you know what the word "druid" means in Gaelic?"

"It means 'wise oak'."

"That's right. The Celtic druids were close to nature. They believed they kept it in balance. They were philosophers and scholars. They weren't serial killers like the one performing sacrifices now." He told me sadly as he looked off into the distance over my shoulder and I took a shuddering breath as I crossed my arms over my chest.

"It's a Darach. 'Dark oak'." I said knowingly as I nodded my head and pushed myself up onto the metal examination table.

"Do you know the story of how werewolves came to be?" he asked me with a small smile as he turned his head back to look at me and I shook my head at him as I elbow on my knee with my chin in my hand. "Do you know the myth of Lycaon? It's where we get the word 'lycanthropy.' According to myth, some Greek citizens believed they owed their lives more to Prometheus than to the gods of Olympus. And some followers even took names to honour the titans instead of the gods. Like Deucalion. The son of Prometheus. Lycaon didn't just refuse to honour the gods. He challenged them. He invited Zeus to a banquet and then tried to serve him the flesh of a human being. Angered, Zeus blew the place apart with lightning bolts and then punished Lycaon and his sons by turning them into wolves. The part that's lesser known is how Lycaon sought out the druids to help turn him back to human. The belief was that the ancient druids knew how to shape-shift. They couldn't make Lycaon and his sons human again, but they did teach them how to shift back and forth. And so the druids became important advisors to the packs."

"Emissaries. Like you were to the Hale pack." I murmured quietly as I scrunched my forehead together in confusion and he hummed in agreement as he nodded. "But what does any of this have to do with me or my eyes?"

"You're aware that sometimes werewolves gain an extra ability? Talia Hale was able to shape-shift into a full wolf, which made her a leader among her people. The Alpha twins, Aiden and Ethan have the ability to merge both their bodies into a single large creature. Scott has the potential to ascend to True Alpha status and apparently, you also have the potential to obtain a new status."

"A new status? What status are the talking about?" I asked him incredulously as I jumped gracefully down on the floor and I forced myself not to place my hands on my hips like a scolding mother.

"You have the potential to become a True Druid." Deaton informed me with a small proud smile on his lips and I stared at him blankly as I tried to process what he just told me. "Together, you and Scott could form the strongest pack ever seen. With Scott as the Alpha and you, Sophie as the emissary."
