The Overlooked:
I narrowed my eyes threateningly at Scott as he slapped his hand over my mouth and he gave me a pointed look to stop talking as I licked his palm in an effort to get him to remove his hand. Stiles shifted uneasily on his feet next to us as my brother scowled at me but kept his hand on my mouth despite my attempts. The three of us were huddled together behind the metal sliding door inside Derek's apartment loft and the dark corner was almost too small for all three of us as we kept stepping on each other's feet.
"Derek? Derek, where are you?" the familiar voice of Jennifer Blake asked loudly as I heard her running into Derek's loft and I froze with my eyes wide as Stiles' expression morphed to one of pure fury.
"Right here." Derek announced his presence softly as he walked out into the middle of the loft and I reached out to grab Stiles' hand tightly in an effort to calm him down slightly.
"Thank God. Something happened at the recital. At the school. Okay, I need to tell you before you hear it, before you hear any of it from them."
"From who?" Derek asked in confusion as Stiles turned his head to meet my eyes with a frown and I tried to reassure him with only my eyes because Scott's hand was still covering my mouth.
"Scott, Stiles, Sophie. They're gonna tell you things. Things you can't believe. You have to trust me, okay? You trust me." Jennifer begged the Alpha werewolf hopefully as Scott slowly removed his hand from over my mouth.
"What is it?"
"Promise you'll listen to me."
"I promise." Derek said to her softly as I reached down for Scott's hand with my free one and my brother squeezed it comfortingly as he tried to smile shakily in reassurance. They was a moment of complete silence out in the loft as we looked shared a confused looked and I stepped forward silently to peek around the corner of the metal door. I saw Jennifer and Derek kissing passionately in the middle of the room and I scowled in disgust as they pulled away from each other. "They're already here, aren't they?"
"Come on." I whispered to the two boys behind me as Derek looked over Jennifer's shoulder at us and I lifted my chin up high in defiance as the three of us strolled out into the middle of the loft. Jennifer spun around with a frown as her eyes narrowed at us and I stood protectively in front of Stiles because he was the only human upon us.
"So... they told you it was me? That I'm the one taking people?" Jennifer asked Derek spitefully as she looked in between the Alpha and the three of us.
"We told him you're the one killing people." Scott corrected her pointedly with a glare as he stepped forward next to me and she scoffed slightly as she looked at him in distain.
"Oh, that's right. Committing human sacrifices? What, cutting their throats? Yeah, I probably do it on my lunch hour. That way, I can get back to teaching high school English the rest of the day. That makes perfect sense." She replied sarcastically as she rolled her eyes at us as though we were being completely ridiculous and I crossed my arms over my chest to keep myself from punching her in the face.
"Where's my dad?" Stiles asked her in a quiet demand as tears filled his eyes and he stepped forward so that he was next to Scott and me as we formed a united front.
"How should I know? Derek, tell me you don't believe this."
"Do you know what happened to Stiles' father?" Derek asked her softly as he glanced over her shoulder at Stiles' nearly heartbroken expression before turned back to study her expression.
"No."
"Ask her why she almost killed Lydia." I told him venomously as I narrowed my eyes at the brunette in front of Derek and she spun around to face me with a scowl on her lips.
"Lydia Martin? I don't know anything about that." Jennifer hissed angrily as she glared at me heatedly and I felt my blood starting to boil as my hands clenched into fists.
"What do you know?" Derek asked her in annoyance as he crossed his arms over his broad chest and he glanced at me over her shoulder as she spun around to look at him pleadingly.
"I know that these kids, for whatever misguided reason, are filling your head with an absurd story. And one they can't prove, by the way."
"What if we can?" Scott asked her knowingly as he reached into his coat pocket and I smirked smugly as my brother held up a clear container filled with a crushed up white mistletoe berries.
"What is that?" Jennifer asked in a frightened tone as she looked at the jar and she seemed to pale slightly as she stepped backwards into Derek's chest.
"Sophie tells me it's a poison and a cure... which means you can use it... and it can be used against you."
"Mistletoe?" she asked in a terrified whisper as Scott flung the contents of the container in her direction and Jennifer shrieked as she momentarily reverted back to the badly scarred, bald Darach appearance then back to her beautiful disguise. She was breathing heavily as she tried to run out of the loft but Derek grabbed her tightly by the throat before she move more than an inch. "Derek, wait, wait! You need me."
"What are you?" Derek asked her in dangerously low voice as he squeezed her throat and she gasped out a breath as she gripped his wrists with wide eyes.
"The only person who can save your sister. Call Peter. Call him!"
"Give me your phone." I murmured to Stiles as I reached into his coat pocket without waiting for an answer and I dialled Peter's number by memory as I held the phone up to my ear while everyone stared at me.
"Hello?" Peter's voice greeted me through the phone line as I licked my lips nervously and I sighed in relief that was okay at least but that didn't do anything to ebb my concern for Cora.
"Hey, it's Sophie. How's Cora?"
"Who's phone is this? Why don't you have your phone? You know you're meant to have it on you at all times. What if something happened to you?"
"More important things, Peter!" I exclaimed in irritation as I scowled at the window to the side of the room but somewhere in the back of my mine I was grateful that someone was worried about my safety. "How's Cora?"
"It's not good. She's in and out of consciousness. She's vomiting up black blood along with one other alarming substance."
"Mistletoe."
"How did you know that?" he asked me in concern as I pinched the bridge of my nose and I exchanged a look with Derek as I hung up the phone without answering his question. I watched as Derek's handsome face hardened at the news of his little sister and he tightened his hold on Jennifer's throat as he lifted her off the ground.
"Derek. Derek, what are you doing?" Scott asked me in panicked he stepped forward with his hand outstretched as though he was going to physically stop the Alpha.
"Her life... it's in my hands!" Jennifer wheezed out as she panted for breath and Derek glared at her as he squeezed her throat even tighter in his grip.
"Stop. Derek, stop!" Stiles shouted at him pleadingly as tears streamed down his cheeks and I stepped forward with my hand on his arm to stop him from going any closer.
"Stilinski, you'll never find him."
"Derek. Derek, enough!" I yelled over the sound of thunder in the distance outside and Derek's greenish eyes snapped up to meet mine as I walked towards him a few steps. I gently touched his shoulder as I nodded slightly at him and he dropped her to the floor at our feet as he stepped back so that he was next to me.
"That's right. You need me. All of you." Jennifer told us arrogantly as she looked at all of us with a triumphant smirk on her lips.
I sat in the backseat of Derek's Toyota FJ Cruiser on the way to the hospital as Derek drove in the pouring ran and Jennifer sat in the passenger seat as she glanced at Derek every few seconds.
"You should know I'm not doing this because I have to. I want to. I could still run, and you wouldn't have an easy time stopping me. But I don't want your sister to die. I'm only doing what I had to do." Jennifer told Derek softly as she turned her head around to look at him and he tightened his hold on the steering wheel but didn't even glance at her.
"Shut up."
"You need to hear the whole story, Derek. You need to know just how connected we really are."
"Stop talking."
"Yes, please, stop talking." I muttered to myself with a roll of my eyes as I reached under on the seat to grab the backpack that I stashed under there weeks ago.
"Why are you even here?" Jennifer asked me in annoyance as she glanced over her shoulder at me and I smiled at her sarcastically as I took off the shoes I was currently wearing.
"Like was I going to leave you alone with Derek? You're not exactly the most stable of people." I replied easily as I pulled my shirt off over my head and she gaped at me for a second as she turned back to face the front.
"What are you doing back there?" Derek asked me curiously as he glanced at me in the rear-view mirror and I paused in the act of unzipping my pants as I quirked an eyebrow at him.
"I'm not going to fight in high heels and leather pants, Derek."
"You hid clothes in my car?"
"Your car. My car. Stiles' jeep. Your loft. The animal clinic. Peter's apartment. I keep clothes everywhere." I told him as I changed into ONLY BATMAN Print Tshirt, PIECES Regular Flower Leggings and Rock & Candy Spraypaint Combat Bootie with my hair in a ponytail out of the way. "When we're constantly jetting off to fight psychotic uncles, crazy aunts, reptilian best friends, ruthless friends that are running town trying to rip people's throats out, fanatic Alpha's that want to enlist you into their merry band of psychopaths and the unhinged, certifiably mental Darach we have sitting in the front seat, it comes in handy to have spare clothes lying around."
"Hey!" Jennifer cried in indignation as she turned around to glare at me for the comment against her and Derek's lips twitched in amusement as he glanced at me over his shoulder. "Do you seriously have to get changed right there?"
"Oh, please. It's nothing he hasn't seen before." I said nonchalantly as I slipped on my boots without looking at her and I heard her surprised intake of breath as I looked up at her with a quirked eyebrow. "You didn't know that? Oops."
"It's none of her business if we've slept together, Sophie." Derek told me absently as we turned down a street towards the hospital and I shrugged indifferently as Jennifer sulked in the passenger
seat.
"Hey, Jennifer, let me ask you something. Why in the world did you think Derek would believe you, a woman he's known for all of five minutes, over us, three people that have repeatedly saved his life?" I asked her mockingly as I tilted my head to the side with a frown on my lips and she turned around in her seat to glare at me as Derek rolled his eyes at my taunting her. "I mean even if he didn't believe Scott and Stiles, he would've believed me."
"You don't know anything." Jennifer said in an unconcerned voice as she turned back to face the front with a blank expression and I huffed out a breathy laugh as I continued to slip on my other boot. Derek pulled into the hospital car park as I tied up my laces tightly and we all climbed out of his car in the pouring rain as Stiles' jeep screeched to a stop next to us.
"What's that?" I heard Scott ask over the sound of rain hitting the asphalt and I looked over my shoulder at my brother as we hurried towards the hospital.
"Well, you got claws. I got a bat." Stiles replied easily as he held up the wooden baseball bat he was holding on to and I chuckled softly as Derek ushered Jennifer into the hospital foyer by the arm. The fluorescent lights inside the Emergency Room were flickering as the five of us wandered in and I immediately saw mom shepherding people out of the hospital.
"Sophie! Scott! What are you doing here? The hospital's evacuating." Mom told us with a frown when she caught sight of us and Scott pushed passed us with a determined expression on his face.
"We're here for Cora." Scott explained urgently as we stopped next to her and her eyes widened in surprise as she looked at all of us.
"What, all of you? Why does Stiles have my bat?"
"Mom, just trust me on this. You need to get out of here. Right now." I said firmly as I placed a hand on her arm with an almost pleadingly and she frowned at me in concern as she searched my expression but understanding shined in her eyes as she nodded.
"The building is supposed to be clear in 30 minutes. We've got two ambulances that are coming back. One's 10 minutes out, the other's 20. Cora needs to be on one of those. They'll be picking up in the basement garage."
"Got it. Okay." I assured her with a small smile as I squeezed her arm gently and I motioned with my head for the boys to walk in front of me. I pressed a kiss to mom's cheek as I rushed pass her behind the others and I ran to the elevator where they were waiting for me. The doors slid shut as I leaned back against the wall with a sigh and I exchanged a worried look with Derek as we the elevator started moving.
"You don't have to keep me on a leash, Derek. I'm going to help." Jennifer told him softly as she gazed up at the Alpha almost lovingly and I fought the urge to gag as I settled for scowling at the brunette. Derek sighed tiredly as he glared straight ahead without answering her and the corner of my lip twitched up in amusement at the disgruntled expression Jennifer wore. She looked over one shoulder to see Scott glowering at her and then she glanced over the other to see Stiles holding the bat threateningly while glaring at her. She sighed in resign to herself about the situation and slumped her shoulders as she waited for the elevator ride to end. The elevator dinged as the doors slid open and Derek pushed Jennifer down the corridor as we trailed after them. We rushed towards Cora's hospital room as fast as we could but when were got there the bed was empty and a trail of black goo droplets leads out into the hallway through a set of closed double doors. I frowned in confusion and concern as I followed the drops of blood and everyone looked around the room for Cora or Peter. There was a muffled sound of a fight as grunting echoed around the room and suddenly the double doors swung open as Peter came sliding up the hallway on his back. He landed at my feet with a groan of pain as he opened his teal eyes with a frown and I quirked an eyebrow at him in question.
"We got a problem. A big problem." Peter told us breathlessly as he looked back down the hallway and I reached down to help him stand up as a loud roar sounded from outside of the room. Derek shifted into his werewolf form as he growled lowly in the back of his throat and rushed out of the room to fight. I noticed Cora lying unconscious on the ground with black blood leaking from a head wound and I felt my eyes widen as Scott ran out into the hallway to help Derek fight.
"Stiles, Peter, get Cora out of here! Now!" I shouted at them forcibly as I pushed Peter towards his niece with a frown and I didn't look back as I rushed out into the hallway. I gasped slightly when I saw Aiden and Ethan's merged form holding Scott against the wall by the throat and Derek lying on the ground as he tried to push himself up. I ran forward with panic rushing through my veins as Scott struggled to breathe and I clenched my hands into fists at my side to stop myself from attacking them. " Aiden, Ethan, stop! You don't know what you're doing."
"All we want is her." They said together as their voices merged into one so that it came out distorted and I heard the elevator ding as I turned around in shock to see Jennifer escaping. the morphed Alpha snapped their head around as the doors slid closed and they dropped Scott onto the ground as they ran towards the elevator. I immediately moved to my brother's side as I helped him stand up from the floor and Derek grabbed my arm as he started pulling us towards where Peter was carrying Cora over his shoulder with Stiles next to him.
"Don't stop, don't stop!" Derek shouted as we rush through an operating room with the merged twins pursuing us and I loosened my hold on Scott's hand as Derek pulled me closer to his side.
"Stiles!" I heard Scott call over his shoulder with panic unmistakable in his voice and I looked over my shoulder to see that Stiles had stopped near the double doors with his bat raised over his head. The morphed Alpha entered the room with a growl and Stiles immediately slammed the wooden bat down on their head but the bat didn't just shatter as it turned to sawdust at the force of the impact. The Alpha wasn't phased in the least as it growled menacingly at Stiles and he stood their shell-shocked as he slowly edged away from the werewolf. The florescent light hanging overhead flickered brief as I glanced up at it with a frown and an idea hit me as I pulled my hand from Derek's hand. I leapt up in the air with my claws elongated as I cut through the cord holding the fixture in place and the light swung down to strike the merged Alpha in the face as it exploded. I smiled smugly as the Alpha let out a strangled cry of pain and Derek grabbed my hand again as we ran out of the room before they could recover. Peter, Stiles, Scott, Derek and I headed into an empty exam room and Peter gently placed Cora down on a gurney in the middle of the room.
"Where's the big guy?" Peter asked absently as he glanced over his shoulder at us and I walked over to where he was standing next to Cora.
"He's close." I murmured knowingly as I brushed a strand of brunette hair off of Cora's forehead and I grimaced slightly at the deep wound that wasn't healing.
"What about Ms. Blake?" Stiles asked in a frantic voice as he looked around the room wildly as though just noticing that she wasn't in the room with us and Scott shrugged helplessly as he looked at his best friend with a frown. "What do you mean? What does that mean? Like, she's gone? Scott, are you kidding me?"
"Shh, quiet." Derek scolded him softly when his voice started to rise and Stiles spun around to glare at him incredulously as he flapped his arms out to his sides.
"Me be quiet? Me, huh? Are you telling me what to do now? When your psychotic, mass murdering girlfriend... the second one you've dated, by the way... has got my dad somewhere, tied up, waiting to be ritually sacrificed?"
"Stiles, they're still out there. Aiden and Ethan are wandering the halls. You have to yell at Derek, minus the yelling." I reminded him pointedly in a quiet voice as I looked up at him and he turned to look at me with tears in his eyes as he shook his head slightly.
"And... and they want her, right? Which means now we don't have her either, so my dad and Cora are both dead!"
"Not yet. Is she really dying?" Scott asked Peter helplessly as he tilted his head to the side with a frown and I bit my lower lip nervously as I glanced down at my friend.
"She's definitely not getting any better." Peter told him with a sigh as he clasped Cora's hand in his and I could see the genuine concern for his niece in his teal eyes.
"There has to be something that we can do. We have to help her."
"You can't." Jennifer's voice announced as she appeared in the doorway and everyone tensed as they turned around to look at her suspiciously. "Only I can. I can save her, and I can tell you where Sheriff Stilinski is. But there is a pack of alphas in this hospital who want me dead. So I'll help you... but only when I'm out of here and safe. Only then."
"Derek, wait!" Scott exclaimed as Derek launched himself at Jennifer with a growl and my brother stepped in front of the Alpha as he held him back.
"She was trying to get out." Derek stated angrily as he pointed a finger at Jennifer and she scowled at him as Scott pushed the Alpha back a step.
"I was trying to keep from getting killed. You can't blame me for that." Jennifer claimed in an almost desperate voice as she stared at Derek pleadingly and I rolled my eyes as I held back a scoff at her words.
"If you want to show you're one of the good guys, then heal her." Stiles suggested calmly as he gestured towards Cora's unconscious body and I tensed protectively when Jennifer glanced in our direction.
"Not until I'm safe."
"I'd like to volunteer a different method of persuasion. Let's torture her." Peter said darkly with a smirk as he took a step closer to her and I immediately perked up at the idea as a smile spread across my lips.
"Works for me." I agreed happily as I looked around at the counter behind me where a metal scalpel was and I picked it up with a smile as I spun it expertly in between my fingers.
"Um, can I have your attention? Mr. Deucalion... excuse me, just Deucalion... Requests you bring the woman calling herself Jennifer Blake to the E.R. reception. Do this, and everyone else can leave. You have ten minutes." My mom's voice echoed through over the PA system as I froze in terror and my breath left me as I leaned against the metal gurney to help support my weight.
"He's not gonna hurt her." Jennifer insisted firmly as Peter placed a comforting hand on my back and I felt my breaths coming out in sharp puffs as a needle-like stabbing started in my chest. "He won't! Scott, Sophie, you know why. Tell them it's true."
"What does she mean?" Derek asked curiously as he looked over at me for an answer and I leaned into Peter's side as he wrapped an arm around my waist to keep me upright.
"You're not the only one he wants in his pack." She explained calmly as she narrowed her eyes at me and I glared back at her as I steadied my breathing enough to stand on my own. "Deucalion doesn't just want an Alpha pack. He wants perfection. That means adding the rarest of alphas to his ranks."
"A true Alpha." Peter whispered to himself in awe as he turned his head to look at my brother and I stiffened slightly next to him as I traded an unease glance with Scott. "The kind that doesn't have to steal his power from another. One that can rise by the force of his own will. Our little Scott."
"Okay, well, what does that have to do with Sophie?" Stiles asked curiously as everyone looked over at me expectantly and I tried to look as innocent as possible as I avoided their gazes. "Sophie?"
"Um, well, Deaton told me that I have the potential to be a True Druid. Whatever the hell that is. All I know is that my eyes change to purple. Which is awesome." I told them nonchalantly as I shrugged my shoulders slightly and I looked at their surprised expressions as I bit my lower lip nervously.
"Who told you that your eyes changed colour? How did you know something was going on?" Scott asked me with a frown on his lips as he crossed his arms over his chest and I looked up at the ceiling as though it was the most interesting thing on the planet. "Sophie? It was Aiden, wasn't it?"
"It doesn't matter. We still need to get her out of here." I reminded them as I avoided the question with a dismissive wave of my hand and everyone nodded in agreement as I sighed in relief that the interrogate Sophie portion of the night was over. "My mom said there's one more ambulance coming in 20 minutes. And I don't think we've been here that long, so if we can get down to the garage, get to the last ambulance, we can get out of here."
"The twins aren't gonna let us just walk out." Peter pointed out unhelpfully as he turned to look at me with a quirked eyebrow and I lifted my chin defiantly as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"I'll distract them."
"You mean fight them."
"Whatever I have to do."
"Me too." Scott agreed with me instantly as he nodded over at me in approval of my plan and I nodded back at him as I turned back to my staring match with the ex-Alpha.
"I'll help you." Derek offered promptly as he stepped forward with a serious expression on his handsome face and I tore my gaze away from Peter to quirk an eyebrow at him in question.
"Um, sorry, but I'm not going anywhere without you, Derek." Jennifer interjected with a shake of her head as she raised her hand up to her shoulder and the Alpha sighed in annoyance as the rest of us glared at her.
"I'll do it." Peter said calmly as he leaned his elbows on the metal gurney in front of him and everyone froze in surprise as they slowly turned around to look at him in shock. The ex-Alpha lifted both his eyebrows as he tried to appear innocent but a smirk made its way to his lips and he shrugged his shrugged as he looked over at me. "I don't like Sophie going out there on her own. But I'd prefer to be out there with an advantage."
"An advantage like what? You mean like a weapon?" Stiles asked him incredulously as he gestured around the room helplessly and I pursed my lips together as I looked around for something that could help Peter in a fight.
"Something better than a baseball bat."
"Well, then look." I taunted the older werewolf as I pushed on his back for him to move and he mock glare at me as everyone started searching the room for something.
"Hey, wait. What about these?" Stiles asked from behind me in an excited voice as I turned my head around to see what he found and I saw he had the paddles to a defibrillator in his hands.
"Do you know how to use those?"
"Well, no."
"Put 'em down." I scolded him lightly with a frown as I gestured for him to drop them and he nodded reluctantly as he placed them back on the counter.
"Epinephrine?" Scott asked unsurely with a frown as he held up a needle filled up with a clear liquid and I shook my head mutely as I continued to search through a drawer.
"That's only gonna make him stronger." Derek informed him absently as he rifled through a cabinet and I thought came to me as I froze in the middle of opening another drawer.
"How strong?" Peter asked slyly as he closed the cabinet he was looking through and I smirked coyly as I strolled over to take the needle from Scott's upstretched hand.
"Epinephrine is a naturally occurring human hormone. It is released into the body to rev up the heart in response to a perceived threat. It's basically synthetic adrenaline. It will get you where you need to go." I told the ex-Alpha as I walked over to where he was standing across the room and Peter narrowed his eyes at me suspiciously as he watched me tap the needle with my finger to clear it of any bubbles.
"Do you know what you're doing?"
"Sure. Hey, remember when you bit me, not knowing if I'd survive or not?" I asked him sweetly with a smile on my lips as he placed a hand on his shoulder to hold him in place and he nodded reluctantly as he paled slightly in anticipation. I smirked at him as I jabbed the needle straight into his chest over his heart and he gasped as I pressed down the plunger so the epinephrine entered his bloodstream at the source. "I'm still kind of pissed about it."
"Yeah, I got that." Peter wheezed out with a grimace as I stepped back and he blinked rapidly as I turned to Scott with a grin on my lips.
"Come on! We have a ginormous, morphed Alpha to fight. Derek, be careful with little-miss-psychopath over there." I warned him softly as I stopped next to him with a smirk on my lips and he smiled faintly at me as I pressed a kiss to his cheek. I squeezed his arm as I passed him and I ignored Jennifer glowering in my direction as I walked over to Scott.
"All right, boys. Let's rumble." Peter announced as he pushed out the double doors with the needle still sticking out of his chest and I followed after him with a blank expression as Scott trailed after me. I swallowed against the lump in my throat when I saw Aiden and Ethan's morphed form at the opposite end of the hallway. The morphed Alpha's bright red eyes shined in the darkness as they growled lowly and Scott pushed me behind him slightly as I scowled at the back of his head in annoyance. I bent my foot up behind me without taking my eyes off of the Alpha and I slipped out the concealed dagger I had hidden in the heel of my combat boot. I twirled the dagger around in my fingers expertly as Peter charged forward with his werewolf features on display and Scott quickly followed after him as the morphed Alpha collided with Peter in the middle of the hallway. The hallway echoed with growls as they fought and I rushed forward to help in any way I could as I saw Scott slid across the floor. I caught sight of the Alpha lifting Peter off his feet by the throat and I threw the dagger forward so that it embedded itself in the Alpha's thigh. I smirked in satisfaction as the Alpha let out a painful roar and they dropped Peter onto the ground as Scott climbed to his feet. I ran forward to help Peter to his feet as the Alpha ripped the dagger from its leg and Scott swept his leg out as the Alpha tripped backwards onto the ground. I quickly grabbed onto Scott's arm as I dragged both of the guys backwards down the hallway while the Alpha was distracted and we ran around the corner as I helped an exhausted Peter run. I opened the first door in the corridor that wasn't locked when I heard footsteps behind us and we hid in an empty laundry room as Peter slid down the fall in exhaustion. "That shot didn't last very long. Those twins are really starting to piss me off."
"How the hell are we supposed to get past them?"
"Personally, I think if we keep letting them beat the living crap out of us, they'll tire and give up."
"I could strip, but I'm pretty sure that's only going to distract one of them."
"I'm sure you could straighten him out." Peter murmured in amusement as he lolled his head to the side to look at me with a smirk and I laughed lightly as I smiled at him tiredly with a wink. Scott looked around the room for some means of escape and his gaze landed on the laundry chutes used to get dirty laundry from the upper floors to the laundry machines in the basement. Peter followed our gaze over to the entrance of the chute and he groaned slightly as he rolled his teal coloured eyes.
"You go first, then Scott and me last." I said sternly to Peter as I jerked my head in the direction of the chute and he glared at me slightly as he walked over to the chute. I watched as he slipped into the tunnel and Scott glanced at me with a small smile before he followed Peter down the chute.
"You couldn't have waited, like, ten seconds?" I heard Peter scold my brother in annoyance as I chuckled lightly and felt Stiles cell phone in my bra vibrate with a text message as I slipped it out of my shirt.
"Hang on, guys. I got a text message!"
"We don't have time for you to be sexting some hormonal half-wit at the moment, Sophie!"
"I don't even want to know how you know what sexting is, Peter. It's Derek." I called back down to him as I shook my head at him and I read the message that said he and Jennifer were stuck in an elevator without any power.
"They didn't get out, did they?"
"Nope." I murmured quietly to myself as I texted Derek back that we were coming and I froze when I heard the door behind me click open as my eyes went wide in panic. I quickly deleted the message as I slammed the chute shut so that Peter and Scott couldn't hear anything from downstairs. I turned around slowly to see a shirtless Aiden closing the door behind him and I lifted my chin as I bit the inside of my cheek to stop from ogling his muscular chest.
"Calm down. It's just me." Aiden said with a cocky smirk on his lips as he looked at me and I scoffed slightly as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Excuse me if the fact I'm trapped alone in a room with the guy I've been trying to run away from doesn't fill me with glee."
"Where's Jennifer Blake?" He asked me calmly as he stepped forward with his hands out in front of him in surrender and I glanced around in mock confusion with a frown on my lips as I shrugged my shoulders. He sighed tiredly as he rolled his chocolate brown eyes at me and he walked forward slowly as I stiffened instantly at his approach. "She's dangerous, Sophie. She's the one who's been killing all those people. She needs to be stopped. Just tell me where she is."
"I can't do that, Aiden." I whispered apologetically as I looked down at the ground with a shake of my head and he gently touched my chin as he lifted my head to catch my gaze with his. I inhaled sharply at how close he was standing to me as he brushed his hand over my cheek and I gaze automatically darted down to his lips before I met his heated chocolate brown eyes. "I know that Jennifer is the one sacrificing people. I would be more than happy to hand her over to you if I could. But I can't. At least not right now. She's the only one who can save Cora. She's the only one who knows where John is being held. I know you don't care about any of that, but I do."
"How's your arm?" he asked me randomly as he reached down to gingerly lift my arm up slightly so that he could see my unharmed skin.
"It's completely fine." I assured him softly when remorse crossed his handsome face as he gently ran his finger across my unblemished skin and he hummed slightly in the back of his throat without meeting me eyes. I sighed slightly as I reached up to cup his cheek with one hand and I forcibly turned his head so that he had to meet my eyes. "I said 'I'm fine'."
"I didn't mean to hurt you."
"I know." I told him quietly as he stepped forward slightly so that his nose brushed against mine and I could feel his warm breath on my lips as he leaned down to press his lips gently onto mine. My eyes closed of their own accord as my lips moved in sync with his and he moved backwards so that my back was pressed against the wall behind us. My arms wrapped around his neck automatically as he pulled away from me without deepening the kiss and I frowned slightly in confusion as he rested his forehead against mine without opening his eyes. "What was that for?"
"I have no idea." He murmured more to himself than to me as he shook his head slightly and he reached behind his back as he opened his eyes with a smirk on his lips. I leaned my head back against the wall with a confused frown and he pulled his hand back with my dagger in his hand as I gasped in delight.
"My dagger!"
"You're a pretty good shot." Aiden told me with a small genuine smile on his lips as he held it up in between us and I grinned slightly as I took the dagger out of his hand carefully. I twirled the dagger around my finger expertly as he watched me with darkened chocolate brown eyes and I sighed heavily in reluctance as I bit my lower lip gently.
"I should go. Peter and Scott are probably thinking I've been tied up and you're holding me hostage."
"I can do that." he said in amusement with a suggestive smirk on his lips as he leaned in close and I giggled slightly as I ran my hand down his chest seductively with a small smile.
"Maybe later." I whispered huskily into his ear as he shivered slightly when my warm breath hit his skin and I pressed an open mouth kiss just under his ear as I slid my hand across his stomach. I giggled at his slightly stunned expression as I quickly turned around to open the laundry chute and slid down it before Aiden could stop me. I grunted in pain as I landed in the massive laundry collection basket and I climbed out quickly as I ignored Aiden calling down to me in annoyance. I slipped my dagger back into my boot as I ran out the door and I focused my hearing on Scott or Peter's voice so that I knew where to go. I paused at the corner of a corridor as I peeked around the edge carefully and I saw Scott running down the hallway by himself as he looked around frantically as though he was searching for something or someone. I moved out from behind the wall with a relieved sigh and he immediately looked in my direction with wide dark brown eyes.
"Sophie! Thank god." Scott exclaimed as he rushed towards me with a crooked grin and I giggled in delight as he wrapped his arms around my waist in relief.
"Hey. Sorry, I got side-tracked by one of the twins. Where is Peter? Is he okay?" I asked him in concern as I looked around frantically for the ex-Alpha and my brother nodded jerkily as he started pulling me down the hallway.
"Peter's fine. I took him out to the ambulance with Stiles and Cora. He was crashing hard because the epinephrine wore off. Everyone is fine."
"Are we going to rescue Derek from the towel that's guarded by a troll?" I asked him lightly with a smirk as I allowed him to pull me down the empty hallway and he nodded jerkily with a small smile on his lips as he slowed down to a fast walk. Scott held his finger up to his lips to signal me to be quiet as he tilted his head to the side and I smiled sarcastically at the back of his head as he pulled me along behind him.
"Can you hear that?" he whispered almost silently as he turned his head to look at me with a frown and I focused my werewolf hearing just in time to hear something dropping onto the ground. Scott's dark brown eyes went wide as he pushed me to the side and I let out a surprised yelp as I landed on the ground with my wrist twisted. I frowned in annoyance as I pushed myself into sitting position and I clicked my radius back into place with a cry of pain. I brushed my hair out of my face as my bone healed slowly and I saw Scott being pinned against the wall by the throat by Aiden and Ethan's morphed Alpha form.
"Where is she? We're trying not to hurt you." The Alpha declared in the same distorted voice as before and I slowly bent my knee up as my hand reached for the heel of my boot.
"Try harder." Scott grunted out through clenched teeth as he tried to break free of their hold and I slipped the dagger out of my boot slowly so that I didn't draw their attention.
"Hey! I'd like to try something." I heard mom shout from behind me in a loud voice and we all turned around in surprise as the Alpha dropped Scott to the ground in a heap. Mom stepped forward with a determined expression as she held up two fully charged defibrillator paddles and placed them both onto the Alpha's chest. The electricity from the device surged through them and the twins demerged as they fell to the floor unconscious. I stared at my mother in awe as she dropped the paddles to the floor and I scrambled to my feet quickly as she rushed to my side. Scott climbed to his feet with a grunt of pain as mom grabbed onto my elbow and he grabbed onto my hand as he smiled at mom gratefully. "Sweetheart, get up! Come on."
"Mom, that was badass!" I congratulated her cheerfully as we started running back down the empty hallway and she laughed a little hysterically as she turned her head to smile at me. "How did you get away from Deucalion?"
"He just let me go, said it was a gesture of goodwill. No other reason."
"He had to have a reason. I don't think he does anything without a reason."
"Well, if that means I should continue to be profoundly terrified, then don't worry about it. I got that covered." Mom remarked drily as she sighed slightly with a smirk and I chuckled breathily as we turned a corner into another empty corridor. I heard the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked somewhere around the next corner and I immediately pulled mom to a stop as Scott held his arm out in front of us. I wrapped an arm around mom's waist to hold her in place as Scott slowly peeked around the corner and he sighed in relief as his whole body relaxed at whatever was around the corner.
"What is it?" I whispered in irritation as he looked over his shoulder at us with a small smile and he gestured with his head for us to follow him around the corner. I rolled my eyes at him as I released my hold on mom's waist and I walked around the corner slowly to see Allison, Chris and Isaac standing there. I relieved smile spread over my lips at the sight of my friends and Isaac grinned at me as I rushed into his waiting arms. I giggled in delight as he lifted my off of the ground in an embrace and spun me around as everyone stared at us like we were crazy. He set me back down on my feet as I pressed a kiss to his cheek and he wrapped an arm around my waist comfortably as we looked over at the others.
"I'm suddenly feeling concerned that I let you two sleep in the same bedroom every night." Mom murmured thoughtfully as she stared at us in bewilderment and I frowned at her in confusion as I shrugged my shoulders innocently.
"Come on. We need to plan and we should probably get out of the open before the twin's gain consciousness." I declared as I started pulling Isaac towards the closest door and everyone followed us into the vacant operating room. We all gathered around the metal gurney in the middle of the room and I leaned against Isaac's side as I ignored Allison's questioning gaze. "Okay, so Stiles and Peter are babysitting an unconscious Cora in one of the ambulances. The keys were destroyed so they can't go anywhere. Derek and Jennifer were in one of the elevators when the power went out. Derek sent me a text that said at least Kali knows where they are."
"So then they're essentially trapped?" Chris asked me for clarification as he leaned his hands on the table and everyone looked over at me as I nodded in my head in confirmation.
"Yeah, right. There's no way of getting them out without turning the power back on."
"But wait, wait, wait, if the power's back on, they're gonna hear the elevator moving, right? And they'll be on Jennifer and Derek as soon as it stops. We can't get in a fight with them." Scott insisted as he shook his head slightly with a frown and I bit my lower lip nervously as Isaac placed a calmly hand on my lower back. "It's too much to risk. They want her dead, and if she dies, there's nothing that we can do for Stiles' dad or Cora.
"I don't even think I know which teacher this is." Chris murmured with a shake of his head as he stood up straight and crossed his arms over his chest with a sigh.
"She's... she's the one with the brown hair. She's kind of hot." Isaac stated helpfully with a shrug of his shoulders and everyone turned to stare at him incredulously as he blushed guiltily. "No, it's jus... just an observation."
"Oh, I love you." I told him in amusement as I pressed a kiss to his cheek with a smile and he grinned down at me as everyone shook their heads at us.
"I've got an idea." Allison said abruptly as she gazed at the mirror across the room and I quirked an eyebrow at her in question as she smirked.
Scott and I were waiting around a corner as the other's commenced the first part of the plan that Allison had come up with and I sighed heavily as I leaned my head back against the wall. The plan consisted of Allie playing decoy as she ran outside in Jennifer's shoes and jacket so that the Alpha's thought she was Jennifer and Chris was going to give her backup firepower outside of the hospital. Isaac had taken the Argents Toyota RAV4 to collect Stiles, Peter and Cora while the Alpha's were distracted and mom was going to turn the power back on at the main switch on the roof.
"You ready?" Scott asked me softly as he slipped his hand into mine and I lolled my head to the side to look at him with a small smile.
"As I'll ever be." I told him honestly as I squeezed his hand gently and he smiled back at me as he leaned his head next to mine. The power flickered back on as I glanced up at the overhead light and I sighed as I squeezed Scott's hand once more. My brother glanced at me as he started leading me towards the hallway that lead to the elevator and I rushed to keep up with his fast pace as I heard the elevator whirl to life. The elevator doors slid open as we came to a stop in front of them and I frowned when I couldn't see Derek or Jennifer inside until I glanced down at the floor where Derek was lying unconscious. I gasped slightly as I felt to my knees next to him in panic and I listened intently for the tell-tale thump thump thump of his heartbeat as I relaxed slightly with a sigh.
"Where's Jennifer?" Scott muttered to himself as he looked around the small elevator and I frowned as I stood up slowly from the floor. I looked up at the ceiling as a chill ran down my spine and I saw that the emergency hatch was broken open from the inside as realisation hit my like a semi-trailer.
"Oh, my god. The roof. Guardian's. Parent's. Mom." I said in a rush as I grabbed Scott's hand in mine and we started running down the empty hallway as fast as we could towards the staircase.
"Scott! Sophie!" I heard Stiles call out to us as we ran up the stairs two at a time but we didn't slow down and I pushed open the door to the roof with my shoulder.
"Mom!"
"Mom!" Scott and I yelled out together as we both started searching the roof frantically for her and I felt my blood practically turn to ice as I ran a hand through my hair in frustration.
"They're gone." Deucalion said calmly from behind us as we froze in place at the sound of his voice and I closed my eyes momentarily as I sighed to myself. Scott grabbed my hand in his once more as we turned around to face the Alpha with an expressionless mask and Deucalion tilted his head to the side with a faint smile. "Guardians, Scott, Sophia. If you were with me, I could've told you what it meant. I could've warned you. Let me help you, Scott, Sophia. Let's help each other. You help me catch her, and I'll help you get your mother and Stiles' father back."
"Sophie…" Scott murmured in a questioning voice as he turned to look at me with tears in his dark brown eyes and I felt my own eyes start to water as I wiped away one single tears that had fallen down my cheek. I didn't trust Deucalion at all but I knew that this was probably our only way to find our parents. I didn't want to take any chances when it came to my mother's safety and I was willing to do anything to make sure she got away from Jennifer.
"Together?" I asked him in a shaky voice as I tried to smile as him reassuringly and I held my hand out for him to take if he was in agreement with me.
"Sophie, Scott, don't do this. Don't go with him." Stiles begged from behind us in a desperate voice as Scott squeezed my hand and I turned my head to look at his heartbroken expression as my breath caught in my throat.
"I don't know what else to do. We don't know what else to do." Scott told him quietly as he shook his head sightly and I clenched my jaw closed as I tore my eyes away from Stiles tear filled eyes. it was painful to see one of my brother's in so much pain and it hurt even more to know that I was part of the reason why he was in pain.
"No, there's g... Scott, there's got to be something else, okay? We always... we always have a plan B."
"Not this time."
"Scott, Soph…"
"We're gonna find your dad. I promise." I promised him firmly as I met his eyes with a determined expression and Scott nodded in agreement as tears rolled down his cheeks unapologetically.
"Together?" Scott asked me softly with a faint smile as he held his hand out for me to take and I smiled back at him through my tears as I placed my hand in his.
