"Isaac! Wake up! Come on." I said with a grin as I climbed onto the side of the bed in my pyjamas and Isaac groaned a little in protest in his sleep as he rolled onto his back. I threw my leg over the other side of the bed as I essentially straddled him and I felt his morning erection press into the inside of my thigh but I ignored it as I braced one hand on his bare chest and gently slapped his cheek with the other hand. "Come on. School time!"
"Sophie. Go away." Isaac moaned tiredly as he turned his head away from my hand with a grimace and I giggled at his adorably scrunched up face as I shook my head silently while continuing to slap his cheek. His steely blue eyes suddenly flew open as he reached up to grab my wrist and I let out a startled yelp as he rolled us over so that he was hovering over me. I pouted at him slightly as he grinned down at me victoriously and I pushed on his shoulder to get up as he rolled off of me with a laugh. I climbed off the bed with a smile as I wandered over to the open closet and I pursed my lips together as I picked up two outfits hanging up coat hangers from the back of the door.
"Which one?" I asked Isaac curiously as I turned around face him with the choices held out in front of me and I frowned when I saw that he was lying down on his side with his head under the pillow. "Isaac!"
"The one on the right."
"You didn't even look!"
"You always put the one you like best on the right. If I choose the one on the left, you argue with me until I change my mind and choose the one on the right. So, now I always just choose the one on the right. It's just easier for me in the long run." He answered nonchalantly as he pulled the pillow off of his head and rolled onto his back to lean up on his elbows as he gave me a pointed look. I frowned at him slightly and then I glanced down at the dress in my right hand before turning my head to scrutinise the one on the left. I shrugged a little to myself as I threw the dresses down on the end of the bed and turned away so my back was to Isaac as I slipped my pyjama shirt off over my head. I turned my head to reach for the dress that had been on the right and I smirked in amusement when I noticed Isaac watching me change contently as he sat up against the headboard of the bed.
"Stop looking, pervert!" I scolded him lightly as I threw the other dress at his face and he laughed at me as he caught the dress skilfully in the air. I shook my head fondly as I pulled the Vila Floral, Strap Dress on over my head and straightened it out as I strolled over to the dresser to the side of the room.
"Hey, have you heard from Derek recently?" Isaac asked me curiously as he stifled a yawn and stretched his arms behind his head as I slipped my pyjama shorts off under my dress.
"Uh, no. Not since he and Cora left."
"You don't find that weird?"
"I don't really know. Derek's kind of a closed book. Ask me if he likes it when I trail my nails down his back during sex, I know the answer, but this? I have no idea." I answered him with a shrug of my shoulders as I changed my panties and threw them into the laundry hamper as I ignored the groan that came from the direction of the bed.
"I didn't need to know that!" Isaac complained with a moan as I laughed at his disgruntled expression and I quickly plaited my long brunette hair into a messy side braid as I moved over to stand in front of the mirror.
"Get dressed! I'm going to get some coffee." I told him nonchalantly as I headed towards the bedroom door and I walked down the stairs to the kitchen where mom was pouring herself a cup of coffee. "Morning!"
"Good morning, honey." Mom said happily with a smile as she grabbed another cup from the cupboard and I hummed gratefully as I leaned against the counter with my arms over my chest. "So, not to bring up an uncomfortable topic or anything, but are you ever going to speak to your father?"
"Nope." I answered easily as I accepted the coffee cup she held out to me and she frowned at me disapprovingly but I could see the pleasure hidden in her dark brown eyes.
"It doesn't look like he's gonna be leaving for a while."
"Just because he's staying doesn't mean he's welcome."
"Sophie…"
"Hey, are you working tonight?" I asked her abruptly as I sipped my coffee with a quirked eyebrow and she sighed tiredly with a small smile on her lips as she shook her head in answer to my question. "Okay, well, do you want to have dinner tonight? Just you and me?"
"You want to have dinner with me? Are you sick?" she asked me sceptically as she raised an eyebrow at me and I laughed slightly as I shook my head in amusement.
"Shut up. Do you want to? I need some girl time. There are too many boys in this house nowadays. The other day Isaac asked me what an eyelash curler was. I can't live in a house where someone doesn't know what an eyelash curler is."
"Did you set him straight?"
"Well, straight? Maybe not. I gave him a demonstration." I told her with a sly smile on my lips as she laughed loudly at the comment and I giggled slightly as I sipped the last of my coffee. "I'll see you tonight."
"It's a date." Mom agreed with a grin as I threw a wink in her direction and then flounced out of the kitchen as I made my way back upstairs.
"Hey. You ready to go?" I asked Isaac as I leaned in the doorway to my bedroom with my arms crossed over my chest and he glanced up from tying his shoelaces in surprise as he smiled at me briefly.
"Yeah." Isaac answered as he stood up from the edge of the bed with a short nod and I slipped on my Stylish Hollow Out Cross Buckles Decorated Red High Heel Sandals as he walked out of the room with his backpack. I followed after him as he came to a stop in the middle of the hallway and I quirked an eyebrow at him in question as he nervously glanced at Scott's closed door.
"Going to talk to Scott?"
"Yeah."
"About Allison?"
"Yeah."
"Can I watch?" I asked him excitedly with a grin as I bounced on my toes a little and he shot me an unamused look as he strolled past me towards Scott's room.
"Oh. Hey." Scott greeted the Beta in surprise as he opened the door to find Isaac standing on the other side and I leaned against the wall with my arms crossed over my chest as I watched in amusement.
"Um, are you going to school?" Isaac asked him nervously as he shifted on his feet and Scott nodded his head with a small smile on his lips.
"Yeah."
"Okay, me too. Can I can I ask you a question?"
"Yeah."
"Are you angry at me?"
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"No."
"What's that mean?" Isaac asked him in confusion as he squinted slightly with a frown and Scott let out a heavily sigh as he shrugged his shoulders helplessly.
"I guess I'm not really sure how I'm feeling." He admitted honestly as he looked his friend in the eye and Isaac nodded slightly in understanding as he shifted anxiously on his feet.
"Okay. Do you hate me?"
"No, of course not."
"Do you want to hit me?"
"No."
"I think you should hit me."
"I don't want to hit you."
"Are you sure?"
"Why would I want to hit you? You didn't do anything, did you?" Scott asked him in a light voice that was mixed with amusement and something else I couldn't identify.
"No. I mean, um, w-what do you mean?" Isaac stammered slightly as he glanced at me for a second before looking back at Scott and I bit down on my lower lip to keep from laughing out loud at the highly tense atmosphere.
"I mean like you didn't kiss her or anything, right?"
"No! Absolutely not. No."
"Did you want to?"
"Oh, yeah. Totally." He replied instantly with a nod of his head as I winced in anticipation and Isaac suddenly flew backwards into the wall behind him, making the picture frame above him rattle. I burst out laughing as I leaned against the wall for support and mom appeared at the end of the hallway with a frown on her lips as she took in the scene in front of her.
"Hey! You two supernatural teenage boys. Don't test my entirely un-supernatural level of patience. This house does not have a supernatural ability to heal!" mom scolded them sternly as she pointed a hand towards the wall that Isaac had crashed into and I pressed my lips together in a straight line to stop myself from laughing as she walked away.
"I don't why you're so invested in my relationship, anyway." Isaac complained once again as we both climbed out of my Camaro at the front of the school and I scoffed lightly as I slammed the car door closed.
"Your so-called 'relationship' is non-existent and it's annoying me. Make a move already." I told him pointedly as I met up with him at the front of the car and he sighed heavily as I linked my arm threw his without stopping.
"I can't do that to Scott. Allison can't do that to Scott. It's complicated, okay? You saw what happened this morning when I talked to him about it."
"Yeah, well, do something about it soon, alright? I can't be near you two without nearly suffocating in sexual tension." I remarked drily with a smirk on my lips as we strolled slowly towards the school and Isaac scoffed slightly in amusement as he glanced at me from the corner of his eye.
"You want to talk sexual tension? What's up with you and Aiden?" he asked me knowingly as he untangled his arm from mine and threw it over my shoulders carelessly.
"What? You don't like Aiden?" I asked him with mock confusion as I tilted my head to the side and he scoffed out a laugh as he shook his head with a small smile.
"No, I don't like Aiden. Or Ethan. In fact, I hate them and just want them to die."
"Wait until he does something to piss me off and you have my permission to go after him." I told him with a smirk on my lips as I pressed a kiss to his cheek and he grinned happily as I waked away from him to go to my locker on the other side of the school. I was walking towards the tunnel that lead to the athletic fields when I saw Scott running down the stairs with a panicked look on his face and I frowned in concern as I watched him stare down at the ground with terrified expression.
"What?" I heard him whisper to himself as he spun around in a circle with a frown and I rushed over to him as I heard his heart rate accelerate.
"Scott! Scott, are you okay?" I asked him in concern as I reached out to grab his shoulder and he jerked back from me with a frenzied look in his dark brown eyes as he shot his head up in surprise. "Hey, hey, Scott, it's me. It's Sophie."
"Sophie…" he breathed out in relief as he grabbed my wrist in his hand and pulled me into his arms as he hugged my tightly to him. I frowned in confusion as I wrapped my arms around him in return and he sighed shakily as he leaned back to look at my face.
"Are you okay, Scott?"
"I'm fine. I'm fine."
"Scott, you were freaking out." I counted with a small disbelieving laugh as I rubbed his arm soothingly and he ran a hand threw his hair in frustration as Stiles walked up to us with a frown.
"Hey. Hey, you all right? You don't look all right, Scott." Stiles said in concern as he looked at Scott's slightly paled face and my brother just nodded silently as he fidgeted with the arms of his backpack. "No, you're not. It's happening to you too. You're seeing things, aren't you?"
"How'd you know?" he asked in surprise as his head snapped up to look at his best friend with a frown and I quirked an eyebrow at tem both because I had no idea they were both having trouble.
"Because it's happening to all three of you." Lydia announced as she came towards us on the left with Allison trailing after her and I crossed my arms over my chest with my lips pursed.
"Alright, you three are going to tell us exactly what is going on. Now!" I snapped sternly as I pointed a finger at each other them in turn and they all looked at each other guiltily as Lydia came to stand next to me with a matching expression.
"You ever hear of sleep paralysis? Have you ever had a dream where you feel like you're about to wake up but you can't move or talk? It happens because during REM sleep your body is basically paralysed. It's called muscle atonia. That way if you start dreaming about running, you don't actually start running in your bed. But sometimes your mind can wake up before your body does. So for this split second, you're actually aware that your body is paralysed. And that's the terrifying part. It turns your dream into a nightmare. You can feel like you're falling, like you're being strangled, or, in my case, like you're at the centre of a grove of magical trees where human sacrifices took place." Stiles told us hesitantly as he nervously fidgeted with the end of his t-shirt and I bit the inside of my cheek as I nodded slowly in understanding.
"I, um, I had a vision, hallucination thing about Kate this morning. I got in the elevator, but when it opened, it let me out into an abandoned hospital hallway. The door to the morgue opened on its own, and I went inside. The door closed behind me, and one of the freezer doors swung open, beckoning me to come and look. The tag on the door said Kate Argent. I looked in the freezer, and it was a tunnel that went back impossibly far. Something started moving down the shaft and Kate was suddenly clawing her way towards me, screaming in rage. I slammed the door closed and ran down the door and when I turned around, I was at school. I have no idea how I got here." Allison informed us in a shaky voice as she rubbed her hands up and down her arms as though she couldn't get warm enough and I got the feeling she was remembering being in the freezing cold morgue.
"Uh, I've been seeing my shadow growing and morphing into the same monstrous shape that Peter took on when he was an alpha. Sometimes it's just my claws, or my eyes turning red in the reflection of something, and normally I can make it go away by blinking or shaking my head, but this morning I was following me." Scott said in a strained voice as he shook his head slightly with a frown on his lips and I raised my eyebrows at the three of them as I shared a concerned look with Lydia.
"Well, well, look who's no longer the crazy one." Lydia said cheerfully with a smile as she turned around on her heel and strutted into the school with me right beside her as the other followed behind us. I got the distinct impression she was rather enjoying being on the other side of the terrifying visions for once and I reached down to intertwine our fingers as she grinned at me happily.
"We're not crazy." Allison insisted with a roll of her dark brown eyes from behind us and Lydia spun around to face them with a disbelieving smirk on her lips as she pulled me to a stop with her in the middle of the hallway.
"Hallucinating? Sleep paralysis? Yeah, you guys are fine."
"We did die and come back to life. That's gotta have some side effects, right?" Scott asked hopefully as he looked at each of us for an answer and then they all looked over at me expectantly but I just shrugged my shoulders uncertainly.
"We keep an eye on each other. Okay? And Lydia, stop enjoying this so much." Stiles ordered lightly as he walked past us with a finger pointed at the strawberry blonde and she pouted innocently as she glanced around in mock confusion.
"Bye. Have fun with it. Love you." I told Lydia as I squeezed her hand affectionately with a smile and she grinned back at me as she pressed a kiss to my cheek before flouncing off to class. I rushed over to the history room as Scott waited for me at the doorway with a smirk and I smiled at him thankfully as he started into the classroom before me. I stuck my tongue out childishly at him as I pushed him forward into the classroom and he laughed at my efforts to move him as he dragged his feet playfully.
"Good morning, everyone. My name is Mr. Yukimura. I'll be taking over for your previous history teacher. My family and I moved here three weeks ago. I'm sure, by now, you all know my daughter, Kira. Or you might not since she's never actually mentioned anyone from school. Or brought a friend home for that matter. Either way, there she is." The new history teacher announced cheerfully as he gestured with his hand towards the back of the room and I turned around in my seat along with everyone else to look at the head of jet black hair that was face down at her desk. I watched in amusement as she slowly lifted her head up with a small embarrassed smile on her lips and I felt sympathy for the pretty Asian girl as she slouched down in her seat. "Now, let's begin with American History at the turn of the 20th century."
"Okay, so what happens to a person who has a near-death experience and comes out of it seeing things?" Scott asked us all during free period when we were all sitting under a picnic table outside in the sun and I crossed my ankles under the table where I was sitting next to Scott.
"And is unable to tell what's real or not?" Stiles added in a depressed tone from the other side of Scott and I hummed in acknowledgement to his question as I nodded absently in agreement.
"And is being haunted by demonic visions of dead relatives?" Allie asked from the other side of the table where she, Isaac and Lydia were sitting and I placed my elbow on the table as I rested my chin in my hand.
"They're all locked up because they're insane." Isaac said drily as he quirked an eyebrow at them from across the table from me and I stifled a laugh with my hand as Scott nudged me in the side.
"Ha. Can you at least try to be helpful, please?" Stiles asked him sarcastically in agitation as he waved a hand towards the Beta and Isaac glowered back at him as he leaned forward on the table.
"For half my childhood, I was locked in a freezer. So, being helpful is kind of a new thing for me."
"Hey, dude, are you still milking that?"
"Yeah, maybe I am still milking that."
"Hi. Hi, sorry. I couldn't help overhearing what you guys were talking about. And I think I actually might know what you're talking about." Kira said perkily as she appeared at the end of the table from seemingly out of nowhere and I blinked in surprise as I quirked an eyebrow at her with an unamused mask in place. "There's a Tibetan word for it. It's called 'Bardo'. It literally means 'in-between state.' The state between life and death."
"And what do they call you?" Lydia asked her haughtily in a pointed tone as she gave her a tight, bitchy smile and Kira's smile faltered slightly as Lydia continued to stare at her blankly.
"Kira." Scott answered for her as he looked up at her with a small grin that she returned and everyone turned to look at him in surprise as he blinked at us with a completely oblivious expression. "She's in our History class."
"Right! You're the one who's dad – Ow!" I started to say but was cut off when Scott kicked me sharply in the shin under the table and I scowled at him as I stood up from the bench. Isaac sat backwards with a roll of his steely blue eyes as I moved over to his side of the table and I sat down on his lap as he wrapped an arm around my waist to keep me balanced. I noticed Lydia smirking slightly with a shake of her head and Allison tensed in her seat next to us as she pointedly looked away from us. "So are you talking Bardo in Tibetan Buddhism or Indian?"
"Either, I guess. But all the stuff you guys were just saying? All that happens in Bardo. There are different progressive states where you can have hallucinations. Some you see, some you just hear. And you can by visited by peaceful and wrathful deities." Kira informed us cheerfully as she sat down next to Stiles on the bench that I had just vacated and we all looked at her incredulously as she continued to smile at us happily.
"Wrathful deities? And what are those?" Isaac asked her in confusion as I draped an arm around his shoulders and Kira's smiled widened slightly as she leaned forward on the table.
"Like demons."
"Demons. Why not?" Stiles murmured sarcastically as he nodded sharply once with a tight smile and I hummed in agreement as I warily bit my lower lip gently.
"Hold on, if there are different progressive states, then what's the last one?" Allison asked her in an anxious voice as she frowned slightly and we all looked back at Kira expectantly for an answer.
"Death. You die." She supplied in the same bubbly tone as she grinned happily at us all and I shared a slightly horrified look with Isaac as he squeezed my waist tightly. A tense silence fell over the table as we absorbed what we'd just learned and I sighed slightly as I leaned back into Isaac's chest.
"Awesome." I muttered drily under my breath as I closed my eye momentarily and I looked over at my brother with a worried frown as he tried to smile reassuringly.
"You two are a really cute couple!" Kira said brightly as she looked over at where Isaac and I were sitting with a smile and I knew that she was trying to break the tense atmosphere that had settled over the over. I noticed Allison tense slightly next to us as she peeked at us from the corner of her eye, Lydia rolled her green eyes dramatically and Scott and Stiles grimaced at the thought of us being together.
"We're not a couple." Isaac and I both denied at the same time as we shook our heads simultaneously and Kira frowned slightly in confusion as she glanced at our intimate position.
"Oh, um, I'm sorry. You're just, you're…"
"It's okay. We would make an attractive couple." I assured her with a dismissive wave of my hand as I offered her a small smile and her smile returned just as brightly as she nodded jerkily in agreement. Isaac rested his chin on my shoulder as I placed my hand over his on my waist and I glanced over my shoulder at him with smirk on my lips. "Don't you agree?"
"It doesn't matter because I would never date you." He replied calmly with a shrug of his shoulders and I immediately sat forward with an offended frown on my lips as I narrowed my eyes at him.
"What? Is there something wrong with me? Am I not hot enough for you? Because if I recall correctly, you were the one to kiss me the first time."
"We've only kissed once, and it was when I thought I was leaving town."
"Yeah, but you started it!" I argued with a quirked eyebrow as I folded my arms across my chest and he made a agreeing sort of noise in the back of his throat as he nodded reluctantly. I was having a hard time not laughing out loud because I wasn't really offended that he wasn't interested in me but it was just so much fun watching him squirm.
"Yeah, okay, that's true but…"
"You know, you should be more appreciative. I do let you sleep in my bed every night. And I wake up to you every morning…." I trailed off suggestively as I glanced down at his lap with a smirk and he scoffed out a laugh as Scott groaned loudly behind us. I hummed in satisfaction that I won that round as I climbed up off of Isaac's lap with a smirk and I pressed a kiss to his cheek as I noticed the blush on his cheek before turning my attention back to the whole table. Stiles and Scott both wore expression of disgust as they buried their heads in their hands, Lydia looked amused by the whole situation, Kira seemed to fighting between amusement, embarrassment and confusion and Allison was sitting straight as a rod in her sit as she avoided eye contact with everyone. "Alright, I have to go talk to my art teacher. Love you all! Nice meeting you, Kira!"
"Nice…nice meeting you too." Kira stuttered slightly with a bright smile on her lips as she lifted her hand in a small wave before dropping her hand as though she just realised what she'd done. I grinned back at her as I waved slightly in return so that she'd feel more comfortable and her smile widened as I strolled away from the table.
"And that's Sophie…" I heard Lydia explained in amusement from behind me and my smile widened as I practically flounced in to the school.
Stiles, Scott and I followed Deaton into the backroom of the animal clinic after school because we had gone to him for help understanding the hallucination Stiles had had during Econ class at school.
"It sounds like your subconscious is trying to communicate with you." Deaton explained calmly as he held open the door for us to pass through and Stiles huffed in frustration as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Well, how do I tell my subconscious to use a language that I actually know?" Stiles asked tiredly as we all stopped next the examination table in the middle of the room.
"Do you remember what the sign language looked like? The placement and movement of the hands?" I asked him softly in an understanding voice as I leaned back against the table and folded my arms across my chest as Scott and Stiles looked at me in shock.
"You know sign language?" Scott asked me in an impressed voice as he smiled at me proudly and I shrugged modestly as I bit my lower lip to
"I know lots of things. Including Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, and American sign language."
"Oh, is that all?" Stiles asked me sarcastically as he tilted his head to the side and I pursed my lips in mock though as I tapped my lip with my finger.
"And English." I exclaimed in false realisation as I smiled at him and Scott chuckled at me as Stiles rolled his eyes in amusement. "Come on. Let me give it a shot."
"Okay, the first one was like this. Then…" he said slowly as he held up his right index finger with a frown and then used his left index finger circle it once.
"That's 'when.'" I explained to them with a small frown on my lips as I concentrated on his movements and he placed both his hands in front of him side by side before lifting one then dropping it back into place.
"Then there was this, twice."
"That's door."
"And this in between it." he continued as he put his thumb to his right thumb to his chin and pulled it away with a serious expression.
"That's it?" I asked him unsurely as I bit my lower lip and he nodded jerkily as he crossed his arms over his chest. "'When is a door not a door?'"
"'When is a door not a door'?" Stiles repeated after me incredulously as his eyes widened in irritation and I shrugged helplessly as the answer immediately came to my mind.
"When it's ajar." Scott answered knowingly with a slightly confused frown on his lips and I nodded in agreement as Stiles threw his hands up in frustration.
"You're kidding me. A riddle? My subconscious wants to tell me a riddle?"
"Not necessarily. When the three of you went under the water, when you crossed from unconsciousness to a kind of super-consciousness, you essentially opened a door in your minds." Deaton explained coolly as he crossed his arms over his chest with a small frown and I jumped up to sit on top the metal exam table behind us.
"So what does that mean? The door's still open?" I asked him in bewilderment as I fidgeted with my fingers nervously and both the boys looked understandably anxious about the answer.
"Ajar." He corrected with a small smile as he nodded in agreement with my theory and I sighed heavily in defeat as I rested my head in one of my hands.
"A door into our minds?" Stiles asked in a small voice that cracked slightly as his complexion paled and Deaton smiled apologetically as he shrugged his shoulders a little.
"I did tell you it was risky."
"What do we do about it?" Scott asked him desperately as he leaned his side against the table next to me and I quirked an eyebrow at my mentor as I waited for his answer because I knew that we needed this solved as quickly as possible.
"Well, that's difficult to answer."
"Oh, no, wait a second, I know that look. That's the 'we know exactly what's wrong with you but we have no idea how to fix it' look." Stiles said in exasperation as he scowled at the vet in irritation and I smirked a little at his sarcasm but internally I was just as annoyed by the lack of instruction.
"One thing I do know is that having an opening like that into your mind, it's not good. You each need to close that door. And you need to do it as soon as possible." Deaton told us firmly as he looked at each of us sagely and I gracefully jumped down from the table as the boys both slumped their shoulders in defeat.
"Thanks for the help, Doc." I said softly as I patted his arm gently with a smile and he nodded back at me with a small smile of his own as I followed Scott and Stiles out of the exam room. There was a tense silence hanging in the air between the three of us as we exited the clinic and the sound of a car approaching made my head snap up to see the sheriff's car coming to a stop in front of us.
"Dad, what are you doing here?" Stiles called out to his father as John climbed out of his car and started walking over to where we were standing in surprise.
"I'm here because I could use some help. Actually, your help." John said to Scott as he pointed a finger at my brother with a serious expression and I frowned slightly as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Why me?" Scott asked in confusion as he pointed a finger at himself with a frown and john sighed slightly as he opened the folder he was holding. I leaned forward curiously to see the photograph of a pretty brunette ten year old girl and I bit my lower lip as dread flooded through my veins.
"Because eight years ago, almost an entire family died in a car accident. One of the bodies, a young girl named Malia, was never found. There's enough evidence to have me thinking that that a werewolf could have caused the accident, and then dragged her body away. If you could somehow get a lock on her scent, if you could somehow help me find her body, it might provide the missing clue."
"But what if it was a werewolf?" Stiles asked his father in a mixture of curiosity and concern as he shifted on his feet and the Sheriff ran a hand through his hand much like his did whenever he was frustrated with a situation.
"Well, there's somebody out there who murdered an entire family. Someone who still needs to be caught."
"I'm telling you, after that night, I never drank tequila again!" mom told me with a laugh as I giggled uncontrollably at her story and we both climbed the steps to the backdoor of the house.
"Wait until I'm twenty one, I'll take you out drinking with me." I promised her jokingly as I linked our arms together and she shook her head with a laugh as she scrunched up her nose at the mere thought of drinking.
"I'm trying to help." I heard dad say from inside of the house as we got to the backdoor and I sighed tiredly as my giddy mood completely sobered at the sound of his voice.
"That doesn't make any sense, Dad. Who are you helping? Just get out." Scott yelled back at him as mom tightened her hold on my arm comfortingly and I offered her a shaky smile as she pushed open the door.
"Scott…."
"What? I can't believe that you'd do this to my best friend."
"I'm not doing anything to your friend. I'm doing my job." Dad argued with a sigh as mom and I entered the dining room where they were fighting and I placed both my hands on the edge of the table as mom crossed her arms over her chest.
"Your job sucks." Scott shouted at him angrily as he stepped backward and dad nodded in agreement as he placed his hands in his pants pockets.
"Some days I can't argue that."
"Can somebody tell me what the hell is going on?" mom asked them sternly as she pursed her lips together in annoyance and they both turned to face us as though just realising that we were there.
"He's trying to get Stiles' dad fired." Scott explained to us as he leaned back against the counter and dad shook his head immediately as he look between the three of us.
"No. That's not true." dad denied instantly as he crossed my arms over his chest and mom rolled his eyes at him as she sat down on one of the seat at the table.
"What are you doing?" I asked him pointedly as I stood up straighter to cross my arms over my chest and he looked over at me with a mixture of regret and sadness that I ignored.
"Conducting a case for impeachment."
"That sounds a lot like getting him fired."
"The lack of resolution and ability to close cases is what's going to get him fired. My job is just to collect the information. And it's the job my superiors have given me."
"Your job sucks." I told him firmly with a small scoff at the end as I leaned my hip against the table and he opened his mouth to say something back to me but my attention was diverted towards Scott as he growled in the back of his throat. I glanced down at his hands to see that his claws were starting to come out and I felt my eyes widen slightly as I rushed over to his side so that I could hide his hands from dad's eye line. "Scott, calm down. Come with me right now."
"I can't…I can't." Scott stuttered under his breath as I dragged him down the hallway away from everyone and he staggered backwards into the wall as he started hyperventilating.
"It's okay. Just let it go. Just breathe and let it go."
"I'm trying."
"You have an anchor, right? Find your anchor." I told him sternly as I rubbed his arm soothingly with a concerned frown and his eyes flashed bright red as grimaced like he was in pain because he was trying to fight against the change.
"My anchor was Allison. I don't have Allison anymore." He said in a strained voice as he tensed in pain with sweat dripping down the side of his face and I grabbed his arm tighter as his teeth elongated while his eyes flashed again.
"Then be your own anchor!" I ordered him seriously as I grabbed his chin in my hand and forced him to look into my eyes as I demonstrated how to breathe evenly. Scott copied my breathing technique as his eyes changed back to their normal dark brown and I nodded slightly with a proud smile on my lips as he continued to reverse the transformation.
"Thanks." He breathed out under his breath as he leaned his head back against the wall with his eyes closed and I
