Dan Granger watched as the teenaged boy attempted to break his own neck attempting to get to his little girl.
Simply to help her with a glass of water, and something in his heart dropped. Not because he wasn't happy,
he was thrilled and relieved that she had woken up while they were all there with her. His heart broke because
at that moment he realized that he had lost his daughter in a completely unexpected way. To another man, and
not to her biological father, but this broken young man with a heart of gold and the weight of the world on his
shoulders. He got out of his seat and moved to stand behind his wife, speaking gently to his family, expressing
his relief. He watched the young man that was taking such care of his daughter out of the corner of his eye
throughout the interaction. He knew there would come a day soon that he would have to have a serious talk
with Harry Potter, but it wasn't today. Ron had moved to greet Hermione, and tell her that he would be back
later on once she was feeling a little more up to visitors, the read head slapped Harry on the shoulder and left
the room. Harry helped her with more water, and finally Sirius slowly shook himself out of his stupor enough to
take Ron's place by Harry's side. Tonks and Remus had taken a place standing at the foot of her bed.
Harry glanced at Sirius and had to do a double take. He had seen his godfather so low and broken both physically
and mentally when they first met from both his time with the dementors in Azkaban, and from his belief that his
actions, had led to the murder of his closest friends, leaving Harry an orphan. But he had never seen Sirius cry,
much less sob. The older man dropped into the chair Harry had previously occupied, and took hold of one of her
hand. Harry looked over at Hermione, tears shining in her eyes, her mother and father on the other side of the bed
comforting their daughter, while she held the hand of her biological father, as he came to terms with the reality
they were all now faced with. Harry Potter then placed his hand on his god father's shoulder, the man was finally
starting to calm down.
Sirius finally spoke "I'm sorry. You'd think I was turning into Mooney as weepy as I've been."
There was some half-hearted laughter shared around the room, but Harry distinctly heard Remus mutter
"definitely a muzzle for you".
Hermione had a tired smile on her face "We'll talk more about this situation later… I need to know more myself,
but Sirius… I don't resent you. I would have loved to have known her, and been a family, but… my childhood
was good, happy, and full of love. That's not something to resent. The only thing that's changed, in my opinion,
is that I have one more parent."
Sirius sniffled a little and brought her hand up and kissed it.
Hermione looked at Harry and said, "If he doesn't stop this soon, we're going to have to start referring to him as
Sniffles, rather than Snuffles"
Harry guffawed and leaned down to kiss her forehead, exclaiming "You've just made my entire week with that comment"
He sobered up realizing what he had just done, how close he was to her face still, his voice dropped, and he plead with her
"Please, never scare me like that again" and he leaned over once more to kiss her cheek. She could only nod in response.
"Oh, now I see it." Tonks crowed with a still growing grin clapping her hands together "This is going to be so much fun!"
"Alright, alright, everyone, let me tend to my patient. Your tea is getting cold, and I still have things to do. Your
chairs aren't even 3 meters away."
Everyone reluctantly stepped away, but their attention remained focused on the girl in the bed rather than the tea
service. After casting more diagnostic charms and asking Hermione many questions, the healer strode off to retrieve
several potions for Hermione. At this point, Harry stood and moved to her side once more. He felt like he needed to
reassure himself, that she really was getting better, that she'd be ok, and heal from the sickly purple curse that
Dolohov had thrown at her. Even in a way, he supposed… to reassure himself that she still wanted him here, that
she didn't blame him.
Harry placed his hand against the side of her face and implored "Do you ever think you can forgive me Mione?"
Her face sent from tired to extremely angry in an instant "Forgive you?"
Harry raced to respond "I wouldn't blame you, if you couldn't. I didn't protect you. You were only hurt because
you followed me there, and I went blindly"
She was seething. Over the past 4 and a half year, Harry Potter had always blamed himself for things he couldn't
control. Sure, he made mistakes, sure he made bade decisions sometimes, everyone did.
Her weak voice still found the strength to raise "Harry James Potter…. I am here, in this bed because of a Death Eater.
NOT you. I am here, in this bed, because I could not stand by and watch as members of my family were in probable danger."
At that point her hand rose to cover his on her cheek, and her voice slightly softened "I would do it over again Harry, even
knowing the outcome" She looked at him fiercely, "There is nothing to forgive you for."
She didn't need to hex him to make him believe her, He feel it in the tone of her voice, so full of conviction. He searched
her face, he finally nodded before clutching the hand resting on his and bringing it to his lips. Madame Pomfrey shortly
thereafter returned with the potions. The first one, one to help he regain some of her strength more quickly was given
through a muggle syringe in her upper arm. After that there were more to ingest, and thankfully they were all small
amounts.
"You need to try to put something in your stomach dear, I'll call for some broth and crackers for you" the nurse explained
before hurrying back to her office.
There was a short cry from the office before a pop and a shift in weight on the bed announced exactly which elf had
answered the call. Dobby appeared at the foot of the bed; his large elf eyes filled with tears. Dobby had calmed some
since Harry had first met him. The elf simply looked at Hermione and snatched his sock-hat off his head and began speaking.
"Dobby is so happy miss Grangy has woken up! Dobby shall return shortly with food for miss Grangy" with a little bow the
elf popped out of existence startling the Grangers, who had minimal contact with the Magical world.
Harry sat by her side until she finished her broth and fell asleep. Not long after the adults in the room noticed that
he had also fallen asleep, holding her hand with this head resting next to it on the bed.
*Author's note: I had such a great response yesterday that I decided to upload this short chapter rather than trying to
lengthen it anymore. I'd like to be able to add more content on a regular basis, but sadly… *life* lol. Even if you don't
leave reviews, please know that I very much appreciate you taking the time to read my story. I absolutely love knowing
that what I write brings some enjoyment to someone else, other than myself. I know things are hard for a lot of people
right now, but I want to take a moment to encourage each and every one of you to take time for your mental health.
Self-care is so very important. Take some time to be creative, take a hike or exercise, make some music, dance!
