Chapter 31: VS. Goodwin – Part 2
I looked over my shoulder to see how far the King of the Netherworld had come. He was around halfway through the ocean between New Domino City and Satellite. We needed to speed things up so we could defeat Goodwin and stop the Earthbound Immortals from ruining the world.
"The King of the Netherworld fast approaches!" Goodwin stated. "And when he arrives, you can be sure that all you see around you will be destroyed, so that I can create a new world to rule! A world that will be made in my image!"
"I place two cards facedown and end my turn!" Crow called after he recovered from the effect damage.
"Human bonds are fragile things", Goodwin claimed. "To reign over destiny, there is no other choice but for myself to become a God and create a new world!"
"I still can't believe he is our enemy now!" Luna said worriedly.
"Me too…", Aki nodded slowly.
"I don't care about 'Gods'!" Jack frowned loudly. "Much less what you call 'bonds'! I'm just going to surpass it! I will not be swayed by destiny, or whatever! I'll push forward at this speed… So fast you'll never catch up with me! My turn!"

"First, I place a facedown! Next, I summon Magic Hole Golem!"
Magic Hole Golem, Level 3: DEF 2000
"Magic Hole Golem's effect! Once per turn, I can halve the attack points of a Monster on my field to have it attack directly! I choose Mad Archfiend!"
Mad Archfiend, Level 4: ATK 1800 – ATK 900
"Mad Archfiend will attack you directly, Goodwin! Bone Shard Shower!"
The fiend Monster flew up to Goodwin and caused him some damage, but not enough to lower his Speed Counters.

"Quit joking around, Jack", Crow commented. "It doesn't matter how fast you try to race by, we can't cut off our unsavory ties! I activate my Trap; Shadow Dance! When a Monster successfully attacks directly, this inflicts 1000 points of damage to the opposing player!"
"What?!" Goodwin gasped before he grunted in pain due to the Trap card's effect.

Goodwin: 11,900 LP – 10,900 LP = SPC 4 – SPC 3
"He's right! Whether we're Signers or not, it doesn't matter!" Yusei joined in. "We all already have the bond known as 'friendship'! It's an absolutely steadfast symbol! With these bonds, we will tear down destiny! I activate my Trap; Rising Rush! When we inflict effect damage on the opposing player, it lets me Special summon a Tuner Monster in my hand! I summon Junk Synchron!"

"Alright! It's your turn, Yusei!" Jack called. "At the end of my turn, Mad Archfiend's attack points return to normal!"
Mad Archfiend, Level 4: ATK 900 – ATK 1800
"My turn!" Yusei yelled.

"I tune Level 3 Junk Synchron with Level 4 Max Warrior! Clustering roars turn into an echoing arrow which tears through the sky! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro summon! Show yourself, Junk Archer!"
Junk Archer, Level 7: ATK 2300
"Junk Archer's effect! Once per turn, it can remove an opponent's Monster from the field until the End Phase of this turn! Junk Archer, remove Moon Dragon Quilla with Bull's Eye Banishing!"
Junk Archer fired an arrow at Moon Dragon Quilla. The arrow hit the moon stone and was absorbed by the carved rock before the dragon was absorbed into a dark hole and left Goodwin's field empty. Because Moon Dragon Quilla was banished and not destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, Sun Dragon Inti couldn't come out.
"Now all our cards are linked together!" Jack commented.
"These are our bonds!" Crow called. "And Goodwin's field's wide open now!"
"Junk Archer, attack Goodwin directly!" Yusei shouted.
I couldn't see Junk Archer since the trio was far up in the sky, but I knew the Synchro Monster had fired an arrow to attack Goodwin.
"No, you don't! I activate my Trap; Offering to the Immortals!" Goodwin yelled. "When I receive an opponent's Monster's declaration of attack while I have no Monsters on my field, this will negate that attack. Afterwards, it Special summons two Ceremonial Tokens."

I knew what that meant. It was a forewarning of what was to come after my turn.
"Then, I can add a card with 'Earthbound Immortal' in its name from my Deck into my hand!" Goodwin added while revealing the condor Earthbound Immortal.
"Oh no!" Yusei gasped.
"So, you mean that, after he negates our attack and summons two Tokens, he ends up getting an Earthbound Immortal in his hand?!" Crow commented in disbelief. "You ain't playing fair!"
"Why, of course", Goodwin chuckled amusingly. "For I am the Ultimate God with everything inscribed upon my body!"
"His Earthbound Immortal is coming next!" Jack concluded.
"I place two cards facedown and end my turn!" Yusei called.
"During this End Phase, Moon Dragon Quilla returns to the field", Goodwin stated.
Moon Dragon Quilla, Level -6: DEF 2000
"It's my turn!" I called as I drew a card.

"Hurry and destroy the Tokens so Goodwin can't summon his Earthbound Immortal, Estelle!" Aki told me.
I quickly checked the card I had just drawn and saw it was Breakthrough Skill. This was going to come in handy in the Duel.
"I start my turn by tuning Level 1 Maiden with Eyes of Blue with Level 8 Blue-Eyes White Dragon! Silver scales clad the dragon. Protect its glory and roar like thunder! Synchro summon! Arise, Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon!"
Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon, Level 9: ATK 2500
Azure-Eyes roared to the sky before he gently placed a clawed hand on the concrete in front of me. I immediately knew what he meant, so I climbed onto his hand before he took off to the sky, flying towards the Condor crest.
"When Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon is Special summoned, he cannot be targeted or be destroyed by card effects until the end of the next turn!" I briefly explained. "Next, I summon the Tuner Monster, Supay!"
Supay, Level 1, Tuner: ATK 300
"Supay, destroy one of the Ceremonial Tokens!" I called.
Supay floated away from me and Azure-Eyes and headed towards one of the Tokens. All he did was to head-butt the Token and shattered it into pieces, causing damage to Goodwin's Life Points.

My next move was not going to be appreciated, but I had to do it for a reason.
"Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon, destroy Moon Dragon Quilla!" I called.
"WHAT?!" I heard the Satellite Trio gasp in disbelief through my Duel Disk.
Azure-Eyes listened to my command and fired his Silver Lightning at Moon Dragon Quilla. The moon dragon was destroyed just as the sun dragon was raising up from the clouds.
Sun Dragon Inti, Level 8: ATK 3000
"You made a terrible mistake there, Priestess", Goodwin chuckled amusingly. "I'm starting to wonder whether the Crimson Dragon chose the wrong Priestess to aid the Signers. Are you trying to let them down and watch their world fall into my hands?"
I held myself back from arguing with him as I set Breakthrough Skill. "I place one card facedown and end my turn."
"It's my turn!" Goodwin called.

I noticed Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon descended through the sky as he carried me in his hand. I looked down and saw we were flying above the Satellite Trio and their Duel Monsters. My dragon cast a shadow over them, which caused Yusei, Jack, and Crow to glance up.
"Hey, it's Estelle!" Crow called, his voice sounding normal now that I wasn't hearing him and the others through my Duel Disk.
"What was that ridiculous move just now, woman?!" Jack growled. "Are you trying to kill us?!"
"I have my reasons!" I replied, keeping my eyes on Goodwin who looked delighted.
"What reasons?! Makin' Goodwin able to summon his Earthbound Immortal?!" Crow shouted.
"Guys, calm down! Estelle must have a reason why", Yusei came to my defense. "Besides, we can't fight each other right now!"
"Exactly, so pay attention on my next move!" Goodwin called. "I release my Sun Dragon Inti and Ceremonial Token! Bring about ultimate destruction, mightiest of Earthbound Immortals! Come forth, Wiraqocha Rasca!"
The sun dragon and the Token were absorbed into a bright purple light that shone above the Stairway before it died down to reveal an Earthbound's stone heart. It was beating in an even rhythm as the spirits of the citizens of New Domino City were absorbed by the organ.
"Those souls…are getting absorbed!" Jack gasped.
"He's using them to summon the Earthbound Immortal!" Yusei explained.
Once the heart had enough spirits, it released a purple light that blended together with golden light. Slowly, the last and biggest Earthbound Immortal raised from the light with a bird's cry that echoed throughout the city.
Earthbound Immortal Wiraqocha Rasca, Level 10: ATK 1
Shortly after Wiraqocha Rasca had screeched, the King of the Netherworld responded to it with his own cry. I looked over my shoulder and saw the nasty king was close to touch the harbor of New Domino City. He released several drops of his sludge body that shapeshifted into condor-like creatures that flew towards us. They spread around at the Condor crest, but their main targets were me and the boys. However, I noticed how the herd seemed to have their full attention at me, since they were flying around Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon and Supay. I was about to say something when I got the worst headache ever. I dropped the cards I had in my left hand on Azure-Eyes' hand and clutched my head as the headache almost split my head in half. This was the worst headache I've ever felt and it didn't measure up to the level of the other Earthbound Immortals I had been in close contact with.
"Hey, why're the birds flockin' 'round Estelle?!" I heard Crow yell.
"To punish the imbecile who allowed me to summon Wiraqocha Rasca!" Goodwin laughed. "Sure, it may be a bit unfair to attack you with Monsters that aren't from my Deck, but when you have such powers as I, it would be a shame not to use them and, besides, it's not like you can stop me!"
My headache didn't want to let up and to add more salt on that, I felt the sharp beaks and claws of the condors on my arms as they tried to harm me. Supay and Azure-Eyes tried to shield me, but I still got some scratches and bleeding cuts on my body, just as my clothes were slowly getting torn apart.
"Leave her alone!" Yusei shouted.
I tried using my right arm to shoo the condors away, but instead I got a deep wound by a condor's sharp beak. I quickly moved my arm back and opened my eyes to see the damage. The textile handless glove had been torn wide enough to expose my Mark, and the bleeding wound was right in the middle of the Star Mark.
The next thing I knew, the condors were destroyed by several vines with sharp thorns. I slowly looked up and saw Black Rose Dragon, Ancient Fairy Dragon, and Power Tool Dragon flying far above us as they took out the herd of condors.
"Don't worry about the birds, guys!" Luna's voice echoed from my Duel Disk. "We'll take care of them!"
"You're not the only ones who get to be part of the action!" Leo finished.
"So focus on the Duel and make sure to win!" Aki added.
"Nice moves! Thanks, guys!" Yusei said.
"I'm going to fight as well. For the first friends I've ever had in my life!" Aki insisted.
"Yeah! To protect these bonds we have!" Luna added.
"Go, guys, go!" Leo cheered.
"You can do it, Jack!" Mina chimed in through Yusei's Duel Disk.
"Don't you dare lose, Crow!" Trudge called.
I felt how my headache was finally calming down, at least enough for me to let go of my head and pick up the cards I had dropped on Azure-Eyes' hand. It was a wonder they didn't fly off with all the commotion around me. Maybe the Crimson Dragon had used a tiny bit of his powers to make sure I wouldn't lose them.
"Then what are we waitin' for?" Crow commented.
"Let's win this!" Yusei yelled.
"You're showing me one fourpenny performance", Goodwin commented amusingly.
"Goodwin! Our wishes, our bonds, will overcome destiny!" Yusei retorted.
"Thinking like that, you will eventually be swallowed by destiny and be at the mercy of the eternally persisting battle between the Crimson Dragon and Earthbound Immortals, with no other choice but to stay silent. That is why I intend on becoming a God and create a better world! Let me show you despair, Fudo Yusei. First, since Sun Dragon Inti left the field, Moon Dragon Quilla comes out to join us!"
Moon Dragon Quilla, Level -6: DEF 2000
"I activate Rasca's effect! His effect will, once per turn, reduce my opponent's Life Points to 1 by skipping my Battle Phase."
"You're going to reduce Yusei's Life Points to 1 in one go?!" Jack exclaimed in disbelief. "What kind of bull is that?!"
"Who said I'm choosing Yusei, you fools! I choose your precious but ridiculous Priestess! Fall to the Shadows, Estelle! No miracle can save you this time!"
Rasca was about to collect energy to reduce my Life Points when Crow drove past Yusei and Jack, taking the lead.
"What happened to you, Goodwin?! You used to believe in helping others, not just yourself!" the Blackwing Duelist called.
"Crow, don't!" Yusei yelled.
"When you tried to build that bridge for us Satellite kids, I looked up to you! You were my hero, and I know deep down you still got that in you!" Crow ignored the warning yell.
"You're wrong! I'm simply not that man anymore!" Goodwin argued.
"Yes, you are!" Crow shouted. "Look, I know it didn't work out the way you wanted, but you gotta realize… Just you trying changed all of our lives! It gave us all hope! Look, Goodwin, if you're not gonna be the Legendary Man we thought you were, then I guess I'm just gonna have to step up and fill those shoes for you! Because Satellite needs its heroes!"
One of the condors snuck past us and tackled Crow's Duel Runner without a warning. It caught him off guard so he lost control of his Runner and spun around on the Condor crest. Crow bounced on the purple mist that encaged the Condor crest while trying to regain control of his motorcycle.
"That will teach you to dare talk back to me!" Goodwin shouted irritably. "Now then, where were we again exactly? Ah, yes, I remember now! About to vaporize Estelle's Life Points!"
Rasca started once again to collect energy as the purple marks on his body glowed due to the energy. I shook in fear by the thoughts of getting seriously hurt. Azure-Eyes' effect only affected himself, so he wasn't able to protect me from this assault.
"I don't think so!" Crow yelled after he regained control of his Duel Runner. "I activate my Trap; Life Exchange! When Life Points change via a card effect, this will target that effect towards myself!"
My eyes widened in shock that Crow was doing one of his ultimate sacrifices.
"No way! Crow!" Yusei gasped, also knowing where this was going.
"I told you I'll be filling those shoes!" Crow snarled at Goodwin. "Estelle is one of our best shoots at winning this and I'm not letting you take her or Yusei or Jack out, even if it means me putting all on the line to keep them out here! Face it, Goodwin, the power we get from our bonds, we'll always be stronger than what you got! Now, let's do this!"
"No, Crow, don't do it!" I yelled desperately. "I can take the damage! Don't hurt yourself!"
"How sweet!" Goodwin chuckled amusingly. "The Priestess still cares more about her followers than her own safety! But it's easy to be brave when you're a fool! Wiraqocha Rasca, reduce Crow's Life Points to one!"
Rasca had finished collecting energy and released a beam of purple light that was dense and massive. The beam swallowed Crow and Blackwing Armor Master and pushed them off the Condor crest.
Crow: 1800 LP – 1 LP = SPC 7
Jack: 4000 LP = SPC 9
Yusei: 4000 LP = SPC 9
Estelle: 4000 LP = SPC 9
Goodwin: 10,600 LP = SPC 6
"CROW!" Yusei and Jack yelled worriedly.
"Azure-Eyes, go!" I called.
Azure-Eyes flew after Crow who was falling through the air, still holding onto his Duel Runner. We had to try saving him if his Duel Runner was going to fail on him.
"Sorry, Goodwin, but if I'm going down, you better believe I'm going down swingin'!" Crow shouted as the wings on his Duel Runner turned down, causing him to glide through the air, but still falling down towards the ground.
"Crow!" I called as Azure-Eyes flew next to the falling Turbo Duelist.
Crow turned an eye on me before giving me his signature grin. "Don't worry, Estelle! I'll be fine! Life Exchange's other effect will destroy a Monster if there's any change in my Life Points!"
"What did you say?!" Goodwin gasped.
"As much as I'd like to go with your Earthbound Immortal, Goodwin, I'm gonna smash up your Moon Dragon Quilla!" Crow declared as he activated rocket boosters at the back of his Duel Runner, literally flying through the air and through the moon dragon, shattering it into pieces.
"You fool!" Goodwin snorted. "When Moon Dragon Quilla is destroyed, Sun Dragon Inti will be resurrected."
Sun Dragon Inti, Level 8: ATK 3000
"I'm not done yet! I release Blackwing Armor Master to activate the Continuous Trap; Blackwing Anchor!" Crow yelled from the other side of the Condor crest as he was still gliding through the air. "That's it, Yusei, Jack, Estelle! I'm afraid that you guys gonna have to take it from here on out! I know you guys can do it! I know you can be Satellite's new heroes!"
Azure-Eyes flew back to the Condor crest where Yusei and Jack were driving, and Supay who had stayed with them instead of going after me and the silver dragon. I watched in horror as Crow's small figure disappeared among the purple mist at the other side of the crest, crash-landing onto the course.
This meant he was out of the Duel. The rest was up to me, Jack, and Yusei now, and we still had Crow's Blackwing Anchor in play, even though he couldn't continue Dueling.
Crow: OUT

"A Turbo Duelist who cannot race will not have a turn", Goodwin chuckled. "Your Legendary Man is nonsense. And so are your bonds. I place a card facedown to end my turn!"
"Damn you, Goodwin!" Jack growled as he drew a card. "It's my turn!"

"I summon Sinister Sprocket!"

"I tune my Level 1 Sinister Sprocket with my Level 4 Mad Archfiend and Level 3 Magic Hole Golem! The ruler's heartbeats will now file through here! Take witness to its creation shaking power! Synchro summon! My very soul, Red Dragon Archfiend!"
Red Dragon Archfiend, Level 8: ATK 3000
"However, when Sun Dragon Inti is destroyed, it will destroy your Monster and inflict damage equal to its attack points!" Goodwin reminded the blonde man.
"I activate my Trap; Half Straight!" Jack shouted. "By halving my Red Dragon Archfiend's attack points until my next Standby Phase, if its attack points are lower than my opponent's highest attack points Monster, it's allowed to attack directly!"
Red Dragon Archfiend, Level 8: ATK 3000 – ATK 1500
"With that, I won't be deceived by Sun Dragon Inti and I'll hit you head-on! Go, Red Dragon Archfiend! Absolute Power Force!"
Red Dragon Archfiend let out a battle cry as his right hand clenched into a fist that got enveloped by a scorching hot fire before flying towards Goodwin.
"Sun Dragon Inti's effect activates!" Goodwin suddenly called. "It can reduce its own attack points to 0!"
Sun Dragon Inti, Level 8: ATK 3000 – ATK 0
"It can what?!" Jack gasped in disbelief.
"That means Half Straight's effect will be disabled!" Yusei pointed out. "The only one who can battle now is…"
"Yes, you cannot attack my Earthbound Immortal, meaning you will attack my Sun Dragon Inti!" Goodwin finished.
The Signer Dragon was forced to change direction and flew towards the sun dragon instead.
"Do you mean to tell me Red Dragon Archfiend will be destroyed?!" Jack yelled.
"I activate my Continuous Trap; Scrubbed Raid!" Yusei intercepted. "By sending a card on the field to the Graveyard, it can end the Battle Phase! Jack, use this card!"
"Jack Atlas… What are you fighting for?" Goodwin asked the blonde man. "It is not to assess your destiny. Nor is it to oppose God. And, on top it off; you supposedly do not care about bonds."
"Jack! Don't be deceived!" Yusei called. "Use Scrubbed Raid's effect!"
"You abandoned your friends in Satellite all to attain the title of King. Have you or have you not abandoned your ties with your friends once before?" Goodwin tried manipulating Jack. "You cannot be a King unless you are alone, and you know that."
"No! Jack has us, his friends! He's not alone!" Yusei yelled angrily.
"I too was alone", Goodwin confessed. "I had no other choice but to stand against destiny by myself. That is when I realized that me becoming a God was the only path. Jack, the same applies for you as well. You abandoned everything and became a loner to choose the path to becoming a King! Being King-like is your battle! Your 'bonds' nonsense makes me laugh! Fudo Yusei! People are lonely by nature! Relying on others, being lenient and decentralizing responsibility! Bonds like that could never defeat destiny!"
Jack had been silent this whole time, listening to Goodwin's words, before he spoke up. "Indeed, you are right. I was alone."
"Jack!" Yusei yelled.
"Red Dragon Archfiend, attack Sun Dragon Inti!" Jack shouted. "Absolute Power Force!"
Red Dragon Archfiend kept flying towards the sun dragon with his fist still on fire. He punched the dragon's sun stone and caused the four-headed dragon to explode into an inferno.
Jack: 4000 LP = SPC 10
Yusei: 4000 LP = SPC 10
Estelle: 4000 LP = SPC 10
Goodwin: 10,600 LP – 9100 LP = SPC 7 – SPC 6
"That is what I expect from you, Jack the Lone King", Goodwin chuckled. "However, you shall take upon the same pain I suffer! Sun Dragon Inti's effect activates! The Monster who destroyed Inti will be destroyed along with it and the opposing player will receive damage equal to its attack points!"
Red Dragon Archfiend got swallowed by the remnants of Sun Dragon Inti's fire before he turned into ash. Jack's body glowed in a red aura as he took damage to his Life Points.

Yusei: 4000 LP = SPC 10
Estelle: 4000 LP = SPC 10
Goodwin: 9100 LP = SPC 6
"Jack! Why?!" Yusei called in shock by Jack's choice of action.
"When Sun Dragon Inti is destroyed, Moon Dragon Quilla will be resurrected."
Moon Dragon Quilla, Level -6: ATK 2500
"I place one facedown and end my turn", Jack said calmly.
"Jack, you have given up on bonds, garnering no friends. That loner spirit is most befitting for a King. However, a King will not do. You must become a God. A God like myself… I will shape this world!"
"There is one thing that you need to remember, though! I'm not the King!" Jack shouted. "Bonds, friends… These are all things that I, indeed, once abandoned. I also ended up abandoning being the King! But, when I abandoned everything, I gained one tiny thing! Those hopes are the reason as to why I'm here!" He took a short break to take a deep breath. "Goodwin! Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not alone! I had no interest, but, before I knew it, I was in the middle of a bunch of pests! No matter how much I deny it, I cannot escape from what's known as 'bonds'! And what helped me understand that…was one woman's love! Goodwin, people won't get lonely so easily!"
"Everyone ends up coming to a tepid conclusion such as that! That is why I had to reach these heights!"
"That isn't true! Our bonds will prove it!" Yusei spoke up. "My turn!"
Jack: 2500 LP = SPC 9 – SPC 10

Junk Archer loaded his bow with a new arrow and fired it towards the moon dragon who eyed the incoming arrow with unamused eyes.
"No, you don't!" Goodwin intercepted. "I activate my Trap; Destruct Potion! By destroying one of my own Monsters, I'll regain Life Points equal to its attack points." Moon Dragon Quilla disappeared among the clouds, vanishing from the field as Junk Archer's arrow missed it. "I destroy Moon Dragon Quilla and, when the moon sets, the sun shall rise again!"
