Two children, a boy and a girl, watched from the shadows as storm-troopers led their parents away. They knew not to follow, not to leave their hiding place. They were their parents' only hope.

"Check upstairs – make sure no one is hiding there," one of the troopers commanded. The boy gasped, his bright blue eyes widening with fear. He grabbed his little sister's hand, putting a finger to his lips, and quickly led her into their parents' room, where he opened a secret hatch in the closet. Inside was a ladder that led to the roof, and he helped his sister climb up before shutting it behind them.

They watched from the roof as the troopers left, taking their parents with them.

"Ezra?" the girl asked. "Where are Mommy and Daddy going? When are they coming back?" Ezra didn't respond. "Ezra...?" she asked again hesitantly.

"They're not coming back, Elsa," he replied stiffly. "They're gone."

**Two years later** (Ezra's POV)

It had been two years since our parents were taken away. Two long years during which I had to learn to survive on the streets, find a safe home, and take care of my little sister. Which was much harder than what you might think.

Ever since my parents adopted her, we realized that she was... different from the typical four year old human girl. Elsa was able to create ice and snow from her bare hands. It was almost like magic! Well, at least that's what we call it now: her magic.

Of course, it was hard for her to control her magic, and even though our parents had been able to help her a little, they weren't able to do much before they were taken by the Empire. So I was given the task of helping her. And making sure both of us stayed alive.

Now that she's seven, she's been able to gain more control over her powers, but even still, she can lose control and freeze the entire room in an instant. So the next time I went out to find – steal – some food, I managed to find a pair of blue gloves for her to wear. It had helped tremendously, and now she was able to help me steal food and make money.

Luckily, we'd found an abandoned comm tower not too far from the city, and we were able to make it our home. It was perfect for the two of us – we each had our own bedroom, there was a small kitchen, and there was even a common room.

Even though we had everything we needed, I still felt like there was something more out there for us. For me.

I had no idea just how right I was.
