For this and the next chapter, Zach will be absent. This is for the purpose of establishing some of Violet's backstory. I apologize in advance to anyone looking forward to seeing him and/ or his and Violet's interactions.

Again, I do not own Wild Kratts or any characters created by the Kratt brothers for the show.

"Violet."

They need me, I can't leave them alone.

"Violet."

How can I leave them and go away for two months?

"Violet!"

It is too long; I have never been away from them for this long.

"VIOLET!"

I can't leave my mom and dad…

"VIOLET VIRGINIA TYLER!"

I snapped my head up and turned to see my aunt Amy and cousin Paige looking at me, their matching expressions appeared to be a mixture of concern and exasperation.

"Yes, Amy?" I replied quietly before I turned my attention back to my parents' tombstone.

"I called your name four times Violet; didn't you hear me?" Amy asked as she abandoned her task of putting flowers on her parents', my grandparents', grave.

"No, I am sorry Amy," I replied as I traced my fingers over my parents' names: Alden Richard Tyler and Virginia Dawn Tyler.

"Violet, you need to listen to me and look at me when I am talking to you, is that understood?" Amy asked, and I looked back to her momentarily to mumble, "Yes, ma'am."

My fingers traveled further down the cold stone, and they stalled when I reached the dates of my parents' births and deaths. Once again, as every day in the past nine months, I broke down in tears.

Amy knelt beside me and gathered me into her arms. She spoke tenderly while she ran a hand over my hair, "Shhh, it's okay, baby girl, I'm not upset with you, I know exactly what you are going through. Trust me when I say this is all for the best, you cannot keep staying here, it is not good for you."

"How do you know? You stayed here when your parents died, you didn't leave them!" I wailed.

"I did not have the chance to leave when they died, I had to stay here, and it was very hard for me, knowing they were so close to me, but they could not be with me. If my grandma could have sent me away to come to terms with it, I know I would have been better off, but you have that chance, Violet. Thanks to that big brain of yours you have a scholarship to go to this camp, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity!" Amy's enthusiasm made me cry harder.

"I can give it to someone else! Paige wants to go, let her! Please!" I pointed at my older cousin, and she smiled and started begging my aunt to let her go.

"Please mom, there are going to be so many smart, cute boys there, please let me go!" Paige clasped her hands together in a begging gesture for extra measure.

"You are not going anywhere young lady," Amy narrowed her eyes at her daughter, and she continued, "this is not a camp for young ladies to go and stare at cute boys, it is a camp for improvement of knowledge and perfection of scientific skills, which, sorry honey, you are not the brightest when it comes to science."

Amy shuddered and glanced at me. The look we shared was an indication that we both remembered when Paige's last science fair project, a baking soda and vinegar volcano, overflowed all over our kitchen.

Amy redirected her attention to me, and I saw her tuck her short brown hair behind her ear, something my mother always did when she was nervous. A few tears trickled down her face before she calmed herself enough to speak.

"I know you are hurting Violet, but please do this for me and your parents. I know they would have wanted you to do this. Besides, I have a good feeling about this, I cannot explain it, but I think this may just change your life…For the better." Her dark blue, nearly violet colored, eyes, so much like mine and my mom's, looked at me pleadingly.

I looked back to my parents' grave and relented, "Okay."

I hope you all enjoyed Chapter 1! While Chapter 1 and 2 are slow, a lot will happen starting in Chapter 3, so please be patient; I should have Chapters 2 and 3 posted by tomorrow.
