Hi again everyone, this is the second of my three updates of the day! I hope you all are enjoying the story thus far, if you are, feel free to leave reviews, they make my day!
In this chapter Violet settles into her cabin, Aviva apologizes and informs Violet that she will be the counselor of the Hypothesis Cabin, and Violet adopts a new name.
Be on the lookout for a few points of foreshadowing in this chapter! You can let me know if you think you know what they are!
Again, I do not own any aspect of the Wild Kratt universe. Happy Reading! – JIG32
Paige and I sat quietly for a moment while my bunk mates, along with their parents or guardians, walked by us and entered the Hypothesis Cabin. Each time one of the girls passed us it seemed like they were giving us harsher and harsher glares.
"And I thought high school was bad. They are looking at us like we single handedly destroyed their prized chemistry sets!" Paige exclaimed.
I had no idea what Paige or I had done to offend these girls, but their expressions left me with the feeling that our interactions over the next couple months would not be pleasant.
My musings were interrupted by the sound of Amy's voice. "You made your way here, good job girls." I knew Amy's comment really meant: "Good job, Paige. I'm glad you caught Violet this time."
Walking beside Amy was Aviva who smiled warmly at me. Aviva apologized, "I am sorry that I hurt you by what I said. I now understand your situation. If there is anything I can do to help while you are here, let me know."
She then pointed to the cabin and informed me, "I did not realize when we first met, but you are in my cabin, I will be your counselor this summer!" Her demeanor exuded joy, and the small smile I gave her in response seemed to satisfy her.
Amy and Paige helped me unpack while Aviva spoke with my bunk mates and their loved ones. On a nightstand beside my bed, I placed a picture of my parents. Amy watched me touch the picture, and she came to me and rubbed my shoulders.
Amy spoke to me in a kind but warning tone. "I am so proud of you for coming here, but you have to try your best to behave. I have spoken with Aviva and told her of your situation. Remember that she and the other counselors are here to help you. While I believe you'll have a great summer here, I expect you to be on your best behavior and not…do the things you have been doing."
I knew those last words meant I should not run away again. Amy continued, "I asked Aviva to keep me updated on your progress here. I will know if you are not behaving, and if you're not doing what you should, I'm going to be very disappointed in you."
Those last words hit me like a ton of bricks: disappointing people was my greatest fear. "I will try, Amy."
Amy and Paige prepared to leave, and I walked with them out of the cabin. Aviva followed me and observed us as we bid each other farewell. After the final hugs and I love yous, it was time for them to begin their trip home to North Carolina.
I walked back to the cabin and Aviva's voice stopped me, "This is going to be a great summer, Violet. We are happy to have you here."
"Virginia," I whispered, looking Aviva directly in the eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't hear you, what did you say?" Aviva asked, wrinkling her eyebrows.
"I said Virginia, please call me Virginia, not Violet," I responded. Shared looks of confusion passed between Aviva, Amy, and Paige.
Amy shrugged, and Aviva copied the gesture before she declared, "If that is what you prefer, Virginia it is!"
Why do you all think Violet decided she wants to be called by her middle name, Virginia, instead of her first name? You can include your guesses in the reviews!
One reason I decided to include Violet's name change is because I was inspired by a song from singer/songwriter Halsey: Bells in Santa Fe. I included a link to this song in my tumblr account, the link is included in my bio, but you all may look up the song on your own if you like. Please be aware that it contains some explicit language! The first few lines of the song: "Don't call me by my name, all of this is temporary…" are the ones which sparked my imagination:).
I should have another chapter edited and posted by the end of the night, it is Zach and Aviva centered, and the revelation I promised in Chapter 3's notes comes to light.
