AUTHOR'S NOTE: From my research kids in japan enter high school at the age of sixteen. With that in mid Izuku would fall in the line of him turning fifteen during the summer preceding his entrance to UA(I think) so for future intents and purposes I will be working off of that age range for him.
Izuku hit the sidewalk running. After leaping from the top step of his house his quick footfalls leading him through the crowds of people towards his destination, the beach. Today was the day! The beach was completely cleaned except for a car that was sitting at the bottom of the steps leading off of the sand, once he got it up on the truck All Might promised him that he would transfer his quirk to him and explain everything. Izuku began to think back to what had let him up to this point as he dodged around people and the slowly forming crowds that were in their mid-morning commute.
"Like a Dynamo…" Izuku muttered as All Might and his mother spoke next to him about what sort of foods may be best for Izuku now that he had a confirmed quirk. Izuku was keeping track of the conversation as he contemplated the fact that he actually had a quirk, an energy transferal quirk.
"He will likely need a diet high in electrolytes, as many heroes I know who make use of electrical based powers have had similar problems in the past. Additionally, he will need many complex fats for his body to breakdown into energy. A high fat-based diet in general will likely serve him well actually. If you would like I can consult with some colleagues and we could write up a meal plan for him modified from the original diet, he was on." All Might explained.
"Oh, that would be so wonderful, I was already making him food to fit his previous diet and if it helps him became an even better hero then I'll obviously do anything in my power to assist him." His mother answered happily. Ever since they had gotten the news that he was alright her disposition had swung into overjoyedness at every turn. Her entire attitude was one of happiness and joy.
"I am ecstatic that Izuku has such a strong base to work off of! Truly having people around him that wish to see one succeed is a powerful motivator!" All Might announced with his trademark smile and a thumbs up. They hadn't even noticed Izuku was muttering until he made just a bit too much noise that grabbed their attentions.
"Will this cause problems? With your quirk? With my entrance into Yuei? Is it normal for people to develop a quirk so late into their life? What if I get disqualified for not being able to accurately say when my quirk manifested?" Izuku asked himself before noticing that the two had stopped talking.
"Well to answer your questions in order, most likely not, definitely not, your entrance to Yuei will be a bit different than most, late quirk development has been a growing field of study for years, you won't be disqualified for that. Young Midoriya, I appreciate your forward thinking, but you must learn to use that impressive analytic reach to look toward brighter opportunities." All Might exclaimed. "If it will help some of your worrying, we can take a few days after you have cleaned the beach to go to Yuei, and have exactly what process you will be going into explained in detail to you. Inko, you will of course be invited as well, I'm sure Principal Nezu would be delighted to speak to you both."
Izuku swung wide around a group of women who were talking amongst themselves to not disturb their commute. That had conversation had been at least two months ago perhaps a bit longer now that Izuku thought about it. He was less than a mile from the beach when it happened. He rounded the last corner before the final straight stretch on his jog when he collided with someone. They were a fairly short individual with platinum blonde hair and a light blush across her face. It didn't help that when Izuku collided with the girl he had knocked the both of them to the ground and they had landed in a… compromising position with Izuku barely holding himself up with one hand which had landed next to the girl's head and most of his body on top of hers. Izuku made to get up as fast as possible which really only made the situation worse when the girl shifted under him.
"Could you not move like that, its uncomfortable." Her voice was little more than a whisper and as Izuku finally managed to swing himself upward back into a squatting position he saw that girl had a heavy blush on her face. Izuku simply stared at her with only one thought running through his head… This girl was incredibly cute!
"I'm so sorry I should have watched where I was going." Izuku apologized as he stood and offered the girl his hand who took it with a small amount of hesitation. Izuku was met with a yelp and a sudden drop in energy that left him feeling a little out of breath as he pulled the girl to her feet.
"Oh I'm so sorry! My quirk just activated. It just recently came in and I'm still having problems controlling it." Izuku explained quickly while bowing.
"Your, quirk? Why do I feel so full of energy?" The girl asked and then in her mind questioned "And not thirsty for blood?"
"My quirk is kind of like a battery, I can give people energy from myself." Izuku said as a way of explanation. What he failed to notice was the girl was not looking him in the face anymore, she was looking at his stomach area where his shirt had ripped when he had fallen the shirt had been twisted pinning it between the pavement and his body when he landed. After several seconds Izuku finally looked toward the girl's face only to notice that she was looking down which caused him to look down and notice the ripped garment.
"Oh, that sucks I liked this shirt." He said more to himself than anyone else before reaching behind his head and pulling at the collar lifting it up over his head and forward into his arms revealing his torso to everyone, especially the girl in front of him who's blush was steadily increasing in vibrancy and area. You see Izuku had failed to consider that months of hard labor and an efficient diet would turn his once modest body into a work of hard muscles, so when the girl stuttered out a loud
"I have to go, nice to meet you byeeeeeeeeee." Before running away with her face covered by one of her hands, he simply was extremely confused before he put two and two together and his own face became quite red from the realization of what he had just done. He had essentially just flashed that poor girl. He tried to control his reaction as he started moving again towards the beach while storing his ripped shirt in the bag he carried. As he moved now much more carefully towards the beach he was lost in thought.
~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_ Shoto's Point of View~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~
Life surely was strange Shoto decided as he traveled out of his house and into the dojo next door to begin his mid-morning stretches and exercise. His father had been called more and more often on high profile assignments that left he and his sister alone in the house, not that he minded much at all. To be quite frank he was elated that he didn't have to deal with his father much, and as time passed, he was more and more excited by the prospect of going to Yuei and staying in the student dorms there. Closing the door behind him he slipped off his shoes and began a mild set of stretches meant to exercise his back muscles so they did not relapse into injury from disuse. The incident several months ago had left him with a bundle of muscles that sometimes crunched up together and refused to unwind themselves.
The doctor his father brought him to was less than pleased when he had presented himself before him, his father standing a short distance away his flames dimmed to almost nothing. It had taken an hour, but it was decided that through exercise and certain stretching procedures he would be perfectly fine and in top shape for service in four months if he followed the routine stringently. Fearing the repercussions of failing he followed the instructions to the letter stretching this way and that as commanded. He had kept up the routine even after the doctor had informed him that he could stop out of a need to ensure that the muscles did not relapse.
Only a small amount of time had passed when he finished and it led him into contemplation of what he should do for training today, Shoto knew it was important to stay varied so that all of his muscle groups stayed in top shape. After a short delay he decided that today would be an endurance day, not exactly pushing any new boundaries but simply improving what was already there.
He had been at it for well over an hour when he heard the door slide open ad his sister walked in.
"Are you nervous?" she intoned as she sat on the edge of the lowered area he was working in.
It was impossible for him to not know what she was referring to, the Yuei Recommended Entrance Exam. It wasn't the first time he has thought about it. It was his ticket to freedom away from his father and away from the pressures he provided. He let a small smile come to his face before he replied
"Of course I am, but what good will worrying do me? Either I will pass or I don't. You've worked with me for months to better control the ice side of my powers, I've done as much physical training as I can, and my academic scores are well above average. In another life or another world, I may have been called a genius, and pushed so hard by everyone around me that I went mad with power and turned on the people around me, but in this world I'm just me and I think just me is more than enough to get through."
It was a well thought out response Fuyumi reasoned to herself. It covered all the areas one would probably be concerned about and left the person asking feeling relieved, which is exactly the reasons that Fuyumi knew it was fake or at least forced.
"Mhm, I know you don't like talking about your feelings, but you could at least not lie to me Shoto. I'm your worried big sister after all." Here she made a face sticking her tongue out at him, before standing and making her way back to the door. "I'm sure you'll do just fine, just try not to hurt anybody to badly, you're strong Shoto, I believe in you." And with that she closed the door behind her firmly, making sure it stayed closed. Shoto stopped what he was doing and stared at the closed door. She always knew when he was lying or forcing himself to talk, it really wasn't fair for her to be so perceptive.
He began a slow series of movements mostly based on his footwork and movement in any direction he chose. It was something he had read about in a book and been practicing in his free time. Supposedly it allowed you to dodge multiple enemies in close range while leaving yourself plenty of time to disengage or go on the offensive. From what he could understand it was a lot of circular movements and spinning footwork. As he moved, he made sure to make full contact with the ground with his whole foot, a change in how the style was supposed to be used, but necessary if he wanted to launch an ice attack from below.
~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_Katsuki's Point of View~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_
"Three weeks" Katsuki thought to himself. "Three weeks and I'll be in Yuei. Three weeks and I'll start to make a difference and I'll be number one." He was currently laying in bed looking at the hero news. All Might had slowly started to fall back away from his previous capture record allowing the number two hero Endeavour to take the lead on number of villains caught, but that didn't matter to Katsuki, he knew that deep down no matter what All Might would always be number one. It was that thought that drove him, to compare himself to the very best was only natural. If he wanted to be the very best, he had to aim for the records of the very best.
As his thoughts began to wander he thought about everything that had happened to him. How everyone always seemed to respect his choice to go to Yuei with little prompting, of how teachers always let his behavior slide. That thought brought a frown to his face. His behavior. He knew he was better than almost everyone, very few even ranked high enough to deserve his notice, but the way he had acted before now seemed troublesome. He had threatened, boasted, and put down anyone who got in his way, even someone who used to be his friend. Deku… How was he supposed to act around Deku now? He had overheard his mother one day talking very excitedly into the phone and the subject had shocked him to this core. Apparently Deku did have a quirk and wasn't some quirkless loser like he always was before. What could he even say to him after everything he had said and done? Especially the comment about diving off of the roof.
He let his thoughts wander a little bit longer before getting up, it was already close to sundown now, and he still wanted to get a run in. He pulled his shoes on as he yelled out
"Mom I'm going for a run; I'll be back a bit after dark"
"Be safe watch for traffic young man!" she responded from the kitchen area where he could just barely hear the clatter of plates and silverware. He chose not to respond as he let himself out into the dyeing light of the evening. The air was crisp and cool on his face as he changed direction several times pushing himself to go for longer and longer before stopping to take a breather. His path eventually lead him towards the beach where he jogged along the sidewalk that ran parallel to the water. He was surprised to see it so clean, and with so many people out in the sands. There were trash cans spread throughout the sand and people regularly using them as well. The waves were fading in and out rhythmically up and down the coast and the soft noise of people chatting filled his ears as he ran. He had run alongside the beach for easily three kilometers when he saw a sign up ahead of him that he couldn't remember ever being there before. As he approached, he slowed his jog letting himself breath deeply before finally coming to a stop in front of the sign that he started reading. "Dagoba Municipal Beach. Once again, a shining expanse of natural beauty all thanks to Izuku Midoriya who cleaned the beach single handedly, as training for his upcoming hero career. We should all strive to do as Izuku does and go PLUS ULTRA!" Katsuki's mouth fell open in shock. Deku had cleaned this entire beach? By himself? He hadn't seen Deku since That Day, so he supposed it was possible, what had it been four months maybe five ago now?
He turned and started jogging back toward his house lost in thought he failed to notice that Deku was still on the beach, and had seen him and his reaction to the sign which All Might had insisted be put up to commemorate the great thing he did.
~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_Izuku's Pov One Week Later_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~
One week, one week of pain and struggle and learning. He broke his finger the second day but grit his teeth and refused to say anything. The fourth day he lost control and broke his entire arm. That one required a visit to Recovery Girl, the local nurse that Yuei employed. She was gentle with him even commenting on the fact that he should have passed out after her healing, but he was still raring to go. All Might however did not receive the gentle treatment; He was struck with her cane repeatedly which made Izuku laugh. The rest of the training for that day happened at the Yuei gym because Izuku refused to stop practicing so early in the day. That ended fairly quickly as Izuku lost control once again, but not of One for All instead his own quirk went crazy.
"Alright Izuku once again you have to pull deep and find the well of energy and tap into it. You only need a sliver, a fraction of a fraction for it to pull. Now breathe deep and try again." All Might said from next to him. They were still trying to get Izuku used to calling up this new energy at his disposal.
"Alright I'm going to try again." Izuku said as he closed his eyes and started breathing deeply. As his breath came in and out he felt for the overwhelming power. It was like holding lightning, it slipped and squirmed refusing to bend under his control instead jumping here and there until he lost his grip on it again and he felt it. Something was coming! He opened his eyes to see Seafoam green sparks peeling off of his skin. The sparks lept and jumped off of him scorching the ground and bursting light bulbs high above him.
Izuku could feel his entire body twitching and burning. It felt like lightning was flowing through his veins, like one hundred thousand volts were being channeled through his blood. It wasn't long before he could smell something burning and to his growing horror he figured out it was himself. Izuku's growing terror increased again when he noticed how his vision was growing fuzzy at the corners and slowly closing in. He was going to pass out with his quirk activated and he didn't know if it would deactivate on its own.
"Hold fast young Midoriya! I am here!" All Might announced as Izuku saw him wrap his arms around himself. Saw because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't feel the massive arms pressure at all. Slowly Izuku started to be able to breathe again, and he realized what it was All Might was doing. He was taking the electricity and letting it run through him instead of having it loop continuously through Izuku's much frailer body. Eventually the power tapered out completely leaving Izuku exhausted and shivering with aftershocks of lightning that peeled off of his body and arced into the floor. He felt himself be picked up but he could barely keep his eyes open, let alone protest being cared.
He awoke the next day, jerking to consciousness only to find that he couldn't move far at all. After a brief flare of panic he looked down and saw that he had metal bars across his bed, that even now he could see tiny sparks of electricity jumping to from his body.
"Ah dearie, you're finally awake. I'm sorry about the restraints, but until a certain person arrives it's the only way we can keep the electricity from hurting you even more. I've already healed you twice and I don't want to risk damaging anything." The little nurse said as she walked into his view on his right side. He nodded at her since he lacked the ability to speak currently as his mouth and tongue felt very tender and inflamed. If he had to take a guess, he would say he bit it during his shock earlier. Izuku communicated through nods and shakes of his head for a few minutes while Recovery Girl asked him a battery of questions about how he felt. He was just starting to get uncomfortable and stiff when there was a knock at the door and it opened a few moments later admitting a tall thin man with shaggy black hair and bloodshot coal black eyes. His outfit kept with the theme of dark on dark with a black shirt black pants and get this black shoes. The only real color of note was the golden yellow goggles hanging around his neck. Izuku immediately knew who this was, not many may have known about him as he was an underground hero, but those golden goggles were a dead give away to Izuku. This was the pro-hero Eraserhead!
"Reporting for duty, mam." He said yawning as he leaned against the wall.
"This young man, can't deactivate his quirk, and I was hoping you could take a moment to see if your quirk will work to cancel its affects." Recovery girl quickly explained.
"He's fairly old to be having quirk problems like this isn't he?" Eraserhead asked as he sized Izuku up, who met his gaze and refused to look away.
"Ah yes, about that. This is Izuku Midoriya, he's a recommendation student, and before you pass any judgement on him, you'll want to read this." She explained handing him a folder with a big red classified sticker on it. Eraserhead moved to open it when he found a cane stinging his knuckles. "All Might requested that you talk to him while you go over it. He has a few things you will need to know, as if the boy passes the Recommendation Test he will be in your classroom." Recovery Girl stated
Eraserhead grunted as he rubbed his stinging knuckles "All right Problem Child, I need you to make eye contact with me, and remain calm. This will be the first time you've had your quirk forcibly canceled, so it may feel strangle, almost like you are being dunked under water. It will pass I promise." The care that was in Eraserhead's voice surprised Izuku who nodded and closed his eyes before opening them wide to find a red glow coming from Eraserhead's eyes which looked even more bloodshot than they had before.
At first Izuku did want to panic, it was just as he had said, it felt like he was dunked into a cold pool of water and the panic did set in. Thankfully he fought down the feeling and remained as calm as he could. Slowly he watched in his peripheral as the sparks coming from his body died out. Once no more sparks appeared Eraserhead nodded to him and bowed to Recovery Girl before making his way out of the room sealed folder in hand.
~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~FIRST SHARED PERSPECTIVE WOOH_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_
Yuei was normally an incredibly difficult place to get into. On most days the building had a high security wall with sealed entrances that required a pass key issued from Yuei itself. Once past the imposing four-foot-thick walls there was an array of cameras and sensors that kept every single inch of open space under constant surveillance, past those was of course the walls of Yuei itself sealed just like the outer wall and just as difficult to break through. On any normal day there were at least ten pro heroes on campus and two pro hero agencies within yelling distance of the grounds. Of course, these were things that NORMALLY were in place. Today was not a normal day however. At three different entrances to the school students poured through for the exams that would hopefully make their dream come true.
From the Northern gate came Izuku Midoriya who walked tall, He was the inheritor of One for All, the power that was passed down from each generation to make the world a better place. He was here on the backs of eight other inheritors of this legacy he had been given. He was so absorbed with these thoughts that he didn't notice the raised step to the next block causing him to trip falling forward. Right as he was about to hit the ground he reached out and put a hand on the pavement and pushed 1% of One for All into his fingertips flipping himself back upwards. As he landed on his feet he heard an "eep!" from behind him. He turned just in time to see a girl with big brown eyes and brown hair looking at him in amazement.
" I was planning on using my quirk on you, to keep you from falling, but you seemed to have it under control." She said with a hint of a blush as Izuku smiled at her.
"Thanks, I really appreciate the effort!" Izuku responded. The girl rushed off quickly after that leaving Izuku alone to make his way to the special room he was told to enter.
From the Eastern gate strode Katsuki Bakugo, he walked slightly slouched with his hands in his pockets and an aura that several people around him found to be hard to stand in. Pure malice rolled off of the boy as he made his way to the exam theater he had been assigned in his letter. Along the way he saw several extras showing off their quirks, not taking the situation seriously at all. It made his palms itch with the need to make them understand. This was Yuei for god sakes, even if he didn't show it he was deadly serious. This would be the first huge step on his way to the top, and secretly, he hoped his first step to finding Deku to try and talk with him.
From the Weastern Gate came Shoto Todoroki, who was attempting to blend in with the crowd around him. He didn't want to make a spectacle of himself, he wanted to get in and get his test started with. He didn't want to be around all these people, he wanted to get up to where the people who he really should be paying attention to were, the other recommended students. Those would be his competition for the top, his competition to prove he didn't need his abusive father's fire half to beat everyone else and become the best.
