It's been a week since Yuji has attended your school. You didn't see much change in his demeanor, but you saw how defensive and protective he was over you. Yuji couldn't stand the nasty remarks boys and girls said behind your back or to your face. He could think and care less about what everyone else was saying about him by the power of Shota's influence. Not only was he on edge, Yuji has also befriended Junpei. He always came to eat with you two during lunch, and you kind of despised it—because you knew Yuji will grow an attachment to the boy and get hurt when he has to leave the school.
On the way to school, you both held hands which made you sick to the stomach because you weren't used to it still. It felt very awkward as it made your hand all sweaty and hot, but you had no choice since it's all an act. You always found it fascinating how his hand was always warm regardless of the weather. It's never cold; he's a personal heater.
"Yuji, you shouldn't create attachments with people at school. Remember, you're going to be leaving any time soon. Be careful of how you act here." You warned him in a stern tone. You only had the best intention for him, yet Yuji had a hard time seeing it in your perspective. He saw it as you're not fond of him, and all his efforts of warming up were thrown into the drain.
"Why are you always mad at whatever I do?"
You both stopped walking when he confronted you out of the blue. This left you perplexed as you narrowed your eyes at him.
"I'm not. I'm just looking out for you. What's so wrong giving you a heads up?" You were quite offended how he saw you as being mad and overly critical of everything when you really weren't. You were just bad at expressing yourself to others, and it clearly showed.
"Well, you sounded mad though." Yuji muttered, avoiding eye contact with you.
"You think I am but I'm not. I'm really fine; I'm not mad." You truly said, coming from the bottom of your heart. Why would you lie to him about being mad? Of course you would communicate your feelings if it does anger you.
His bothersome look subsided as he realized you were telling the truth. Then he flashed you a bright smile. "Sorry for asking, but you need to do a better job at not sounding so harsh! I can't tell whether you're mad or not. It's really hard to distinguish!"
You took his words into consideration to improve yourself… if you felt like it.
Then the topic changed in your conversation as you guys progressed to school.
"The bullies finally stopped targeting Junpei after we stopped it. He said it's like they fear him now whenever they walk past him."
Your heart raced in anxiety as it loudly pounded in your chest. You never told him about what you did that day when you shooed him away after school. If he ever found out, Yuji would definitely be disappointed that you broke their bones. However, you never saw your action as a heroic act rather a step to keep the balance in place. You were going to stay silent about it and bring it to your grave.
"Oh is that so? That means he's finally learning how to defend himself—"
Then Yuji interrupted you in disappointment as he frowned. "Yeah because you straight up told him to man-up and stop being a wuss. You know that's mean to say." He sounded like a scolding mother in your eyes. You only said that to Junpei because you knew the school wouldn't help him. The only way to survive was to fight since the school has failed to protect their students.
You retorted back, "so what is he supposed to do? Let him get bullied? Tell the useless teachers? I mean, he can move away but he will be in fear of those who are higher than him." You knew the cycle. If Junpei doesn't stand up then he will never get anywhere in life. It's okay to get beaten down because it shows that you're not afraid of them. "You've got to motivate him to do something about it, and not wait for his knight to save him all the time."
Yuji again stopped you from continuing your path to school. "Is that your own way of caring for a person?" He questioned, still trying his best to understand you. It's as if you're Morse code—Yuji's decoding all of your words and tone to find out the true meaning behind your distanced heart.
"Yeah sure. Take it however you like. Now hurry up before we're late to school!" You lightly hit his shoulder, ripping your hand out of his and running off as he chased after you.
It was lunch time and Yuji had texted you that he was going to run late at the usual place you guys ate. Although you couldn't understand why he would be late, you didn't think too much about it. It has been a week since he adjusted to this school life so he would have things on his plate.
As you grabbed your lunch box made by Yuji, you happily smiled to yourself. His food was great, and you had to admit it. You were going to eat good for a while, so you needed to eat it like it was going to be your last. His cooking brought more life into you. Before his food, frozen food never gave you energy as you felt tired each day; however, it's the opposite with Yuji's cooking. You never knew how much nutrients you were lacking before meeting Yuji.
"Hey y-y/n…"
You turned around to face a boy who's trembling beneath your eyes. Even after claiming you had a boyfriend, boys still chased after you and you hated it. They really tried to pretend they were deaf and blind as they flocked over you like usual. What made matters worse, you noticed how they were also targeting Yuji for being my 'boyfriend'. The boys just hated the idea of you being taken since their chances to have you was at zero.
Being reminded of how the boys were shifting their angry attitude to Yuji and Yuji getting protective over you because of the boys, everything clicked in your head.
Oh shit! What if Yuji sent me that text because he's going to fight someone?! Ughhhhh! I didn't think my plan of having him as my boyfriend would backfire. Regardless, boyfriend or not, the boys would still attack him because he's close to me…
You truly hated your school even more. Sometimes you think about transferring to Megumi's jujutsu school because you can't outrun fate. Yet at the sametime, you don't even want to acknowledge that field either. You can't live a normal life.
Ignoring the boy who tried to grab your attention, you ran out to find Yuji.
Your heart was racing in fear as it hit against your ribcage. You didn't beat up some bullies for no reason. You did that to protect Yuji from getting in trouble—wait, why do you care if Yuji gets in trouble? Maybe it's because you brought him here, and you feel responsible for him. Then you also realized your original plan had flopped; as long as he's with you, he's going to face troublesome boys.
Your brain was frying itself from too many thoughts coming in at once. "Goddamnit! I'm going to have Satoru remove him from this school…!" You would rather be concerned about your own safety in school, and you knew it's better that way since there might be curse users who will find out about Yuji's return if you were to encounter them on a random day. It's your job to babysit him and protect Yuji as much as possible.
Running through the halls, you couldn't find Yuji anywhere. He wasn't in the classrooms and students didn't know where he was. It's as if he disappeared from the face of the earth. There's no way he could be gone from this school. You knew it's unlike him to do that without informing you beforehand.
Oh my gosh, what if he was captured by curse users?!
In that moment, your heart stopped beating. You're responsible for Yuji, that's why Gojo sent him to you in the first place. You have the power to protect him, but you don't use it because there's no need to. You wished you could disregard those thoughts but you couldn't. You simply couldn't. First of all, you don't even know how strong Yuji really is! You've never fought him. All you know is that he's Sukuna's vessel, but does it mean he shares his power?! You don't know since you never cared to ask. He could be dead as you speak!
"Fuuuuuck! Satoru's going to kill me…!"
You exasperatedly ran outside the school building and searched for Yuji. Your legs wouldn't stop moving as your eyes frantically darted everywhere for him. Never in your life have you ever felt like this before. It's because you never bear any responsibility. You lived by yourself and had no social life but now you do.
"You stupid piece of shit! You aren't going to last long with me here!"
You suddenly stopped running when you heard Shota's voice behind the school. Your right hand was placed against the concrete wall as you listened into his conversation.
"Yuji, Yuji, Yuji…." Shota hummed as if it's a lovely tune in his head before it turned poisonous. "Your name is like poison to my ears and seeing you with y/n fills with disgust! How dare you take my place—"
Snooping into his conversation, they crossed the line by dragging Yuji into this. Shota was the biggest bully in the school. You wondered why he couldn't take 'no' as an answer. It really sickened you. One day his privileges will bite him in the butt.
I'm definitely asking Satoru to take Yuji out. I don't care. He doesn't need to put up the shit I go through. It's not fair or okay.
You clenched your fists and marched out, revealing yourself to Shota and his stupid gang who surrounded Yuji. He looked unharmed, but he was also ready to fight them too. You weren't too sure what led up to this, but you knew it obviously had to do with you. There's no other reason why Yuji would be dragged here.
"Did you really think I wasn't going to notice my boyfriend missing?" You said through a menacing tone, emitting your dark aura as his gang parted for you. You stood in front of Yuji to protect him while you were against Shota. He looked so irked that his plan had been foiled by the likes of you. You had enough of them. You weren't scared to teach them a lesson even if Yuji saw. "Of course you would take him. You think you can manipulate people into fearing you because you're popular and wealthy? I think not because only I can do that,"
You swiftly stomped on Shota's kneecap as he fell on the ground from the sudden impact. He was on his hands and knees, confused about how he got into this position. He didn't even have time to react. Shota shot you a glare from his narrowing eyes, gritting his teeth tightly. This only produced more adrenaline in your blood. You were clearly enjoying how much power you had in your hands to humiliate him. Your strength overpowered him because you're a sorcerer.
"Is someone mad?" You taunted, giving him a shiteating grin. "I know what you say behind my back." You leaned forward and gripped his jaw firmly between your tense fingers, forcibly making him look at you in the eyes. "Let me tell you this. I can kill you, I can beat you up. You better not cross the line again or else you'll be sent to your grave. If you don't retreat then I will show you what death tastes like, you got that?" You can care less if his gang heard because what can they do? Tell the teachers? There's no evidence to convict me of it. Even if it does happen, you have a lot of dirt on everyone in this school to overturn your case.
Shota gulped dryly, knowing he couldn't win against you. He has too much pride since his friends were here too. He can't look like a fool in front of the girl he's been wanting since the beginning of the school year. It'd be humiliating if he were to be beaten by you.
"Y-yes…!" Shota choked out, and you let go of him as you watched him and his friends escape.
Once they were out of your sight, you turned around and faced Yuji. You were disappointed how he lied to you. You knew the school too well that Yuji could've gotten in trouble if you hadn't intervened. Without saying a word to him, you grabbed his wrist and walked out of school.
"Y/n! Y/n! We can't walk out of school like that! We're going to get in trouble!" Yuji hastily spoke, trying to stop you.
Yuji didn't understand why you were acting like this. He knew he should've told you, but he just couldn't at the same time. It's a personal matter between him and Shota. Yuji knew if he dragged you into it, it would cause you more stress than you already deal with.
You dragged Yuji back home. You didn't care if you left your stuff at school because it wasn't important. As long as you have your phone then you're good.
You set Yuji down on the couch and called Gojo.
"Hey, idiot. Come to my house right now…" you grumbled through the phone and harshly ended the call before Gojo could say anything.
Now that you called Gojo, you were going to have a severe talk with Yuji.
"What happened? Why did you lie to me?" You wanted answers so you patiently waited for him to speak up and tell his side.
"Well…" Yuji explained that he heard some boys around the corner speaking bad about you, and he couldn't keep it in despite you telling him to ignore it countless times. Yuji was at his last straw when he heard it, so he quickly texted you that he'll be late in order to deal with the boys. Then he found out it was Shota and his gang talking about you when he confronted them. The encounter led to Shota taking Yuji outside so they could 'talk' about it. But in reality, Shota wanted to beat Yuji for being your 'boyfriend'.
You heavily sighed, plopping right beside him. There's no way you could bring him back to school. He's going to get into countless fights if he continues attending. Clicking your tongue, you told him your feelings. "I'm grateful that you're trying to defend me, but I have my own ways of handling things. Maybe it's you trying to play your role, but it's short lived now—I will tell Satoru to take you out."
This revelation startled Yuji as he quickly asked you many questions. "What?! What about you? Why would you want to stay there?! Are you crazy?! I won't let you!"
Before you wouldn't want to tell Yuji about beating up some bullies, but it will show him that you're not weak. You can clap people's asses. "I am capable of fighting. Remember Junpei's bullies? I broke their bones when I asked you to go home without me that one day."
Yuji's eyes widened, but he bit his tongue as he wanted to talk about that later. "Okay, but I don't think it's safe for you. Who knows what they will do to you? I'm scared that they will hurt you when I'm not there." His brain only thought about the worse case scenario, and it sent shivers down his spine.
"Who's hurting my dearest student?!" Gojo suddenly entered into the conversation as you both turned around in shock.
You were highly confused how he got inside your house. He doesn't have the keys and he doesn't know where the spare is either. You looked around to see if he broke through the window or not but it was still intact.
"How?" You simply asked Gojo. Your brain couldn't fathom how he got inside. There's no trace of broken entry.
But Gojo ignored your question with another question as he stood in front of you like a scolding parent to their child. "Is that what you're really concerned about? Who hurt my y/n at school?! Why haven't you told me or your gran—"
"Well, it's my only option! I can handle it!" You knew you couldn't transfer out because you would be forced into Tokyo's sorcery school, and you didn't want that. "I beat people up before so there's no need to worry!" You confidently said, hitting your chest to show how strong you truly were.
"Sensei, y/n is targeted at school. She gets sexually harassed by boys and girls. They even call her a whore!" Yuji added on, convincing Gojo to take you out of the school if he was to as well. If Yuji is going to leave, you have no choice but to follow too. Yuji wanted you to be safe. He can't bear the thoughts of you hurting without him by your side.
Gojo was mortified, feeling insulted and hurt. He couldn't believe the treatment you go through in school. He couldn't turn a blind eye on you; he doesn't give a damn if you're okay with it because he's not. "I'm sorry, y/n. I can't let you go back there. You're coming to my school! I don't want you to be treated like an object because you're not one! You know Gin wouldn't be happy."
Gin? Who's Gin? Yuji said to himself, but decided not to press on it because it's not that important.
"Yeah. If you stay at that school, I am too; if you're not, then I'm not. That's how it's going to be." Yuji added, worsening your case even more. You knew you couldn't win. The cat is out of the box.
You slightly frowned, "Fine… I can't win against you too…" You definitely didn't want to bring your grandma into this. She would be extremely devastated if she heard what you go through in school. You'd prefer to lessen her heartaches since she's at that old age stage.
"Yay! I'll tell Yaga!" Gojo cheered. He's been waiting for this moment to happen, and it finally came under Yuji's influence.
Once Gojo left, it was just you and Yuji in the living room.
"So… You beat up Junpei's bullies?"
You paced around the room to keep your blood flowing in your body as you answered his question. "Yes, I did. Is it a problem?" To you, it wasn't because you had reasons to eliminate them. But you weren't sure how Yuji was going to take it. There's many different scenarios of him either understanding or not. You just hoped he did understand from your perspective.
"Yes and no. I wished you told me about it rather than running off to do it by yourself." Yuji showcased a dejected look. He really did care about you, and you wondered if it's because he has to rely on you for everything since he lives with you. "Did you have to break their bones?"
You stopped moving and gave Yuji a deadpan expression. "It's karma. If I beat them black and blue, they will still hurt others. If I break their bones, they won't be able to move a limb because it'll be in a cast. Of course it's temporary, but it's better than nothing."
You kept an eye on Yuji, seeing if he was going to react in disgust. There's no way that he won't; he has a heart of gold. You're just the dark side of society that takes care of things in a different manner. It's neither heroic nor nefarious. Whatever fits the situation is what you'll give to the doer.
Yuji exhaled heavily as he stood in front of you with a worrisome face. "Next time, tell me about it so you're not doing it alone. I don't want you to get hurt if I'm not there!" Then he shined a bright smile in your direction, shifting the heavy atmosphere.
It somewhat alerted you, but you chose to stay quiet and not comment any further. If he's not upset then that's all you can ask for. It would be a pain in the ass if you both had tension from ideals not aligning.
"I guess we're even. You didn't tell me that you were going to beat some bullies up while I didn't want to tell you about Shota and his gang." Yuji lightly heartedly chuckled, unable to be mad over this. He knew you had your reasons to keep it to yourself as well as he did too. "So did you beat them for Junpei's sake?"
"No," You turned away and began walking to your room.
"For whom then?!" Yuji desperately called, really wondering what your intentions were if it wasn't for Junpei. It still bothered him how he didn't know what kind of person you really were.
You threw your hands behind your head, still making your way to your bedroom. You weren't going to stop and tell him. If he wants to hear, he will have to chase after you. "Your sake of course. If I didn't do it, you would've gotten in trouble because you're weak to hurt humans whereas I'm not."
Then Yuji blurted something out loud which made you stop and look over your shoulder in bewilderment. "So you are a nice person, though your way of executing it is...different than most people. I'm glad you're looking out for me! Perhaps that's the reason you called sensei over, so I wouldn't cause trouble since I'm the boys' new target at school. Thank you!"
His words threw you off, including his sun-like aura radiating from his body. You couldn't understand how he could emit that type of energy, but you didn't want to think too much about it. Nonetheless, the bigger picture was Yuji grasping his surroundings and connecting it together. He wasn't a dense person who needed others to help him bridge clues together; he had his brain to interpret and reveal the truth by himself.
A half smile curled at the corner of your lip. "If that's how you see it, then go ahead." You don't want to lean on the good or bad side of the spectrum because you only take action if it will benefit you or not. But now that Yuji was glued to you, you knew you had no choice but to get involved.
