The Little Mermaid (Mako Mermaid style)
Chapter Three: Pool Party
Evie was still unhappy about the exchange student, but decided to push it aside to plan a party for Zac's birthday. She and Zac's best friend Cam, decided that a pool party would be fun.
"No way!" Zac declared. "I want a regular party, no Pool" Cam and Evie looked at each other. Zac had been acting very odd recently. after Zac left, Evie pulled her best friend Carly into the discussion.
"We are thinking of doing a Pool party for Zac's birthday" Evie told her friend. Carly grinned.
"That sounds like so much fun" she said.
"It would be, but you heard Zac, he said no" Cam reminded Evie. she rolled her eyes.
"He needs to loosen up a bit" she said. "Once the party is in full swing, he'll enjoy it, you'll see" But Evie was wrong. When Zac arrived at the party and saw that it was still a pool party, he was not happy. he walked up to Evie.
"I said I didn't want a pool party" he hissed.
"But, Zac..." Evie tried to say something but he turned and walked away.
Zac isolated himself from the party, not wanting to reveal his secret. Ariel found him and sat next to him.
"She was trying to help, you know" she said quietly.
"I know" Zac sighed, "but I just wish she had listened to me" suddenly they both heard a ringing sound, and Zac was surprised because he didn't have his cell phone with him. He was surprised when he noticed the ringing was coming from a shell around Ariel's neck. she pulled it to her lips.
"Hello" she whispered.
"Ariel" a voice gargled, "Ariel its Aquata"
"Aquata are you ok?" Ariel asked.
"No..I.." suddenly she was cut off and a new voice sounded.
"Ariel, my darling niece, why don't you come home, like a good little girl and no harm will come to you family" Ursula said.
"Don't listen to her!" Aquata shouted, "don't..." the call cut off. Ariel buried her face in her hands. Not knowing what to do, Zac wrapped his arms around her. Neither one of them saw Evie watching them.
"Hey, Evie, why aren't you swimming?" Carly asked. Evie pointed to Zac and Ariel.
"I think Zac is cheating" she replied. Carly rolled her eyes.
"I doubt Zac is cheating" she said, "He cares about you alot" she looked closer at the two sitting down. "Besides, its obvious by her body language that she is crying. Zac is just being a nice guy and comforting her" Evie wasn't convinced, even though when Ariel stood up her face was streaked with tears. she said something to Zac and he stood up abruptly and grabbed her arm, shaking his head. she began gesturing looking like she was going to cry again, and Zac spoke to her softly. Evie wondered what they were talking about.
after a while of being comforted by Zac, Ariel stood up. she turned to look at him.
"I have to return home" she said. Zac stood up and grabbed her arm.
"You can't" he replied, shaking his head. she gestured towards the ocean, tears welling up again.
"What if she kills my family?" she asked.
"What if she's lying and just wants you so no one can save the kingdom" Zac said softly. Ariel sighed.
"you're a good guy, Zac" Ariel said. "Its obvious why Evie likes you" she kissed him on the cheek, and left.
Evie narrowed her eyes when Ariel kissed Zac on the cheek. she walked over to Zac.
"What was that all about" she asked. Zac debated what to tell Evie, and decided to tell an abridged version of the truth.
"She got a call from home," he replied. "her family has been abducted, but the police have no leads and because she's an exchange student, she can't just go home, plus the police want her to stay here until they solve the case" Evie felt guilty for assuming the worst about Zac.
"That's awful, why would anyone want to abduct her family?" she asked.
"Her father is a very important politician" Zac replied. Evie nodded.
"So nothing is going on between you and Ariel?" she asked.
"Of course not" Zac replied. "I would never do that to you" Evie nodded, feeling relieved but still feeling like she was missing something.
After leaving Zac, Ariel went back to the grotto and told Rita what had happened.
"I agree with Zac" Rita said. "She was probably scaring you into going home. Once you are captured, she will believe that no one can stop her" Ariel nodded.
"It just hurts, you know" She said. "I love my family and I don't want anything to happen to them"
"I understand" Rita said. "but since she has made contact with you, we really need to find the trident. Its the only thing that can save Oceania" Ariel nodded.
"I am just not sure where to start, but I have a feeling it might be on Mako" Ariel said. "Father knew Mako was my favorite place to go, and I doubt he hid it where so many humans live" Rita nodded.
"That was my thought as well, but even if it is on Mako, it may not be so easy to find" she warned.
"I know" Ariel replied. "I am going to ask Zac if he wants to go to Mako tomorrow"
"good idea" Rita said. "Does Ursula know about Mako?"
"I don't know," Ariel replied. "I hope not"
they had no way of knowing that Ursula was at that very moment, watching them through her crystal ball.
"Yes, princess, lead me to the trident" she grinned evilly. "Oceania will be mine!"
