"Sensei, I'm worried about y/n. She hasn't left her room since that day." Yuji looked over at Gojo who both stood behind your bedroom door.
It's been 2 days since you woke up from the woman's technique. You had not been yourself; you refused to get out of your room, eat, or even sleep. The longest you slept was 2 hour, and the shortest was 30 minutes. No one understood what was going on with you, but you knew and you wished you could forget.
Your head kept remembering your parents' death and their haunting figures whispering words of pure malice. They were telling you to kill yourself because you didn't deserve to live, expressing how much birthing you costed their life at the end, and so forth. It damaged your mental and emotional state. You felt extremely miserable and hurt. You blame yourself for so many years, and hearing the ghost of their spirits saying it to you also added more scars. The sorrow you blocked for so many years ached your heart and soul after the woman's technique revealed your deepest memories you locked away. You just wanted to forget it and get over it, but you knew how hard it is. After all, you blame everything on yourself and it's so hard to undo it. If it was easy in the first place, it wouldn't be sticking on your back till this day.
Pulling your knees up to your chest, you laid your head on your kneecaps as you stared at the wall on your bed. Your chest has never felt so empty when your emotions were in the way. You liked it better when you didn't feel anything because it made you feel okay, and you didn't have your mind spiraling around, telling you that things happened because you were born. You could live peacefully for a moment without a care in the world.
Knock knock knock
"y/n, it's me Satoru. Can you please come out? I'm worried about you."
You knew Gojo and Yuji were worried about your well-being, but you were burnt out from your psychological trauma that you didn't want to do or say anything.
"y/n, do I have to call Gin?"
You weren't sure if Gojo was serious about it or only used her name to scare you, but you didn't want to get her involved. Your grandma had dealt with your bullshit for so many years. You bet she's tired of it—tired of telling you that their death wasn't because of you and your parents would sacrifice themselves to save you no matter what. In the end, you prefer to handle this on your own since it's your own trauma.
"Shut up and leave me alone!" You yelled in frustration so Gojo knew to back off. "You can't always expect me to fix myself when you bring up her name! She's not always the solution to my own problem! Just go away!"
This will go away. It's only natural for me to be really emotional because the aftermath of the lady's technique and my parents' death anniversary is today. I can't calm my mind or soul. It itches me from head to toe. It's a constant reminder… Then you thought about the spider lily you got a while ago. I need to get rid of that.
You honestly didn't know why you even bought that flower. You only took care of it for one day and stopped. It was your emotions which led you to buy it. The day you bought it, you were feeling remorseful and sentimental, but now you felt angry, melancholy, and disgusted. You have mixed emotions when their death day is far compared to when it's the day of.
Grooooowwwllll!
Your stomach growled loudly as you were a tad or maybe extremely hungry. You didn't eat for two days, only here and there but they were small portions because your sadness filled the rest of your stomach. "I'll eat later… I'm still tired." You grumbled, falling flat on your bed and pulling your body into a fetus position to sleep.
30 minutes later,
You woke up to the smell of cooked beef filling your nostril as you felt your stomach twist in turn in starvation.
"I have no choice but to eat or my body will start shutting down…" you sighed, sliding out of bed with your blanket wrapping you up like a burrito.
Before you left your room, you checked your appearance to see how puffy your eyes were. You looked like a bug. "Ugh, I look so disgusting." You obviously knew Yuji was going to fret, but there's nothing you can do about your physical appearance but lower your head.
Carefully stepping outside your room and to the kitchen, you made sure your footsteps weren't loud but light and to see if Yuji was present. Your eyes scanned the area to find him not in the hallway or living room.
He can't be in the kitchen because there's no sound nor the lights are on. You told yourself, inching closer on your tippy toe like a ninja.
When you arrived at the kitchen, indeed it was empty but there was food on the counter left for you. You felt your heart warmed for a split second as sadness prickled your heart. Your eyebrows knitted and lips curved downwards, feeling the guilt you put him through. Even though you barely ate for the last two days, Yuji still went out his way to make you food despite rejecting it. He didn't stop; he wanted to keep making it until you came out and ate.
Yuji's so sweet…! He has such a big heart…even though I call him weak hearted so many times.
Your sadness was quickly washed away by Yuji's small act. To say the least, you could cry on the spot if you felt like it. Nobody has ever put so much effort into making you feel so wanted and cared for. It's nice to know you're not alone, and people out there will stick by you regardless of what happens.
I don't know how I'll repay him. I feel like I'm in debt to him.
Then you ate the food Yuji cooked for you, taking each spoonful with tears brimming your eyes. You were just feeling very emotional and sentimental. Whatever comes to your mind, it could make you cry because it's your parents' death day.
Once you finished eating, you still hadn't heard any noises coming from Yuji whatsoever. This made you very curious if he was home. Your guts were telling you he was home, and you never doubt your gut instinct because they were usually right.
Inspecting all the rooms in your house, he wasn't in any so you decided to poke your head through the screen door of your backyard. As you did that, you noticed Yuji's back facing you as he watered your red spider lily. You couldn't understand why he was taking care of your plant when you left it to die after not tending it.
Silently, you crept behind him and leaned over as your legs touched his back and your hands covered his eyes. His pink hair brushed against your shirt while your blanket hung behind your back. You didn't want him to see how ugly you looked. It's embarrassing to look like a mess in front of a person who you've only known for a short time.
Yuji flinched from your cold touch around his eyes. "Huh?!" He completely froze, tightly holding the watering can in his hand in mid-air.
"Don't turn. I look like an ugly bug." Your voice was quiet yet authoritative. You had the power to make him listen to you even if you were in your emotional state.
"But—"
"Why are you watering the plant?" You asked because you wanted to get rid of it. You no longer want it since it's a reminder of your parents and you hate yourself for letting them die. Your fragile heart can't accept it.
Yuji confidently said as if he knew your life, "because you bought it, and it means a lot to you."
You felt your heart throb and eyes watered when he said it meant a lot to you. It really did because that flower had followed you for so many years. Your mixed emotions keep clashing with each other since you are still hurt and can't find peace. Sometimes you're still unsure what's your true reason for not visiting them, but you definitely know why you're so resentful of yourself is because you have Kameko's power flowing in your body.
Opening your mouth, you felt your throat tighten. Your triggering watery eyes caused your emotions to take over your voice. It wanted to break out of character and show Yuji how broken you are. How much you've been suffering this burden by yourself, but you also wanted to be strong and push him out of your feelings so he wouldn't have to care.
As you tried your best to collect yourself and calm down your tense muscles around your throat, you proceeded to speak; however, it backfired because your mind couldn't push away your strong emotions which wanted to prevail. "I don't want it…" Your voice cracked near the end of your sentence, and Yuji knew you were going to cry. "...anymore," your lips quivered as tears dripped from your eyes, staring off at a distance.
In order to protect your pride from being exposed to your crying face, you forcefully pushed his body against yours, bringing his head underneath your chin as you still had your hands wrapped around his eyes. You weren't going to let him see you.
Yuji couldn't understand why you're trying so hard to push away your feelings. Why couldn't you just be truthful? He knows you're hurting, but it doesn't mean you can't be vulnerable. He can see you're protecting your heart so much so you're not caring to seek help. "Why y/n? You brought it home because you wanted it, but now you don't? It must have a significant meaning if seeing it makes you cry. You're not alone, y/n."
You kept quiet as images of your parents came crashing into your head and more tears dropped down your face and onto Yuji's hair. He felt your tears and he wanted to comfort you, but your grip was too strong to overcome.
Yuji continued to press on. "I met your grandma on the day you bought your flower,"
Your heart suddenly dropped as dread crept in your stomach. You didn't know what your grandma had told Yuji. Maybe that's why he's not letting this topic slide. Knowing your grandma, you knew she striked a conversation with Yuji and probably told him to take care of you. Your grandma only wanted the best for you even if it meant to trap someone into doing a favor.
"She came and asked about you. I told her what you were doing then the flower came up. She said: it's that time of year, and I knew it meant something. Not only that, I caught you crying in front of your flower? I'm not a fool y/n. Something traumatic happened to you and I want to be there to help. Aren't you tired of being lonely? Aren't you tired of dealing with your emotions by yourself? Don't you want someone to cry to and listen to your sorrows?" Yuji spoke softly to you, not raising his voice as he's trying his hardest to convince you. Overall, he's genuinely concerned and he hoped you could see it and let him in.
Your mind was spiraling all over the place. It couldn't think straight. You couldn't structure what you wanted to say to him. Words came pouring out of your mouth as your heart spoke instead of your head. You didn't know until you realized it. "Of course, I'm tired of being alone, tired of being sad, tired of feeling guilty! Don't you think I want a normal life too?! But well I can't! My parents died because of me! How can I live knowing I killed them? How can I go on with life remembering their dead bodies being transported to the hospital and Satoru telling me they died because people want me dead at 6 years old?! He basically insinuated that I'm the reason for their death!" You raised your nasally voice, shedding more tears down your puffy red eyes.
"I was just a child who had to bear the responsibility of the world on my shoulders! My innocence was taken away, and I had to grow up fast because people around me needed me to!" You meekly said, loosening your grip around Yuji's eyes as you slumped from the weight of living has affected you while your head moved in between his shoulder blades. Your hands were pulled back to your side. "How am I supposed to be the most powerful person when I wasn't able to protect my own parents? How can I face them when I failed them before I knew who I was?" You left your eyes open to block their death from replaying behind your dark eyelids.
Hearing this broke Yuji's heart. He didn't know how much you had suffered as a child. He couldn't believe that being the strongest sorcerer had so many downsides. You always expressed wanting freedom but that was it. You never went into deeper details like this, yet he knew you were too harsh on yourself, and he was going to shape you up to realize it. "Y/n, nobody said you were the problem. You only said that because you hold so much guilt and are the only survivor. You were only a child. You didn't know who you were until after the event. How can you be so hard on yourself? You never caused their death—"
You bit your lips, feeling your shoulders tremble from his words yet you still felt compelled to listen to your toxic thoughts because you kept everything to yourself. "I-it would've been better if I had never been born, Yuji! They would be—"
Immediately, your lips were clamped shut by Yuji's hand pushing your cheeks together. Now he was angry at how careless you spoke about your life. Life is precious and anything can take it away without anyone realizing it.
Yuji faced you with a doleful but livid expression. "Stop it, y/n! Just because you survived doesn't mean your parents didn't love you! It would've been worse if it was the other way around. A child should never die before their parents—"
"y/n, your parents knew what they were getting into when your mom fell pregnant with you." Another voice chimed in and it was your grandma.
She stood behind the screen door, staring at you and Yuji as you both turned to her in confusion. You guys didn't know when she got here, but you guys froze in your spots listening to what she had to say.
"They knew who you were going to be. Were they scared? Yes, but they were willing to have you even if it meant they'll die early. Stop hating yourself!" Your grandma marched over while Yuji let go of you and moved away, and she wasted no time on flicking your forehead.
BAM!
"Ouch!" You winced from her flick. She used cursed energy against your thick skull. Even if she caused some type of damage, you wouldn't know because you can use reverse technique to heal your body any time.
"Stop saying things you don't even mean when you don't know the truth!" She flicked your head again. "They loved you so much, y/n and you know it! I felt like I didn't need to tell you this because I know one day you'll come to term and realize it. At least it didn't take you 20 years… Yet you shouldn't have blamed yourself to begin with."
Your grandma gave you a good beating to knock some sense into you. Drilling into your head that regardless of the outcome, their fates were to die early. Although your head wanted to be stubborn, you knew it's pointless to argue. Your grandma had clairvoyant eyes so she would know better than you. She had to break the terrible news to them, watch them die and take care of you. Your grandma has been through a lot and yet you're being selfish and hateful to understand anything.
Your shoulders heavily dropped as you breathed from your mouth. Your nose was too stuffy so you didn't even try breathing there. Honestly, you were very tired after crying your eyes out. Your grandma's talk and whipping did shape you up a bit, but the rest lies on your own terms.
"Yuji, take y/n to her parents' grave. She's been avoiding that place for 10 years. I gotta farm. I came because of Gojo."
Before you knew it, you and Yuji were in front of your parents tombstone with flowers in your arms. You dropped it in front of their graves.
"Um, I'll be over there."
You pulled Yuji to stay since he had heard the darkest part of your life. There's no way for him not to stick his nose into your business when he knows so much already. "Aren't you curious? Don't you want to know what's causing—no, caused my misery?"
From now on, you are going to start changing your life and move on. This journey was going to be difficult but you had to or else you were never going to be better. It's to make yourself, your grandma, and parents happy.
Yuji snapped, unhappy about how you're being harsh on yourself again. "Hey! Don't use 'misery'! Use a better word that's not so heavily depicted on your old-self."
You obviously knew your grandma forced him to be by your side because he has a good nature to himself. His positive force will bring out the true version of you—a person who can finally find peace and live a bright life. Sighing, you changed your wording to appease him. "Fine. What caused my unhappiness?"
"Better!" He gave you a thumbs up.
You told him about your loving childhood, remembering small fragments of the good times you had with your parents. Granted that you couldn't remember much in your early childhood because you were quite young and also blocked it out, there were prominent memories which stuck out after all these years.
Yuji watched in awe how sentimental and blithe you looked. Your smile never stopped stretching, your eyes were radiating gaiety, and you weren't clouded by your own self hate for yourself. Yuji knew how much your parents meant to you. He felt his heartstring tugged by your new changed aura. He even found himself smiling at you as you aimlessly talked about your loving parents.
Then when you got to the topic of your parents' death and funeral, you lost your charm from earlier and a gloomy nature took over. You expressed your pain, guilt, and suffering. Talking about it felt so deep like you were falling in a bottomless ocean. For so many years, you were stuck drowning since you refused to acknowledge anything. You know it's not going to be easy to change your perspective and mindset, but it's for the better for the future-you. The woman's cursed technique was the biggest reminder as you were haunted by them for the past two days.
"Do you want a hug?"
You looked at him in disgust. "No," you didn't want to be hugged.
"Yes,"
"No,"
"Yes," Yuji didn't care for your answer. You were going to refuse due to your stubbornness, so he gave you a tender hug.
His arms wrapped around your shoulders, emitting his warmth and kindness into your body. You had to admit that being hugged felt great. It puts your body at ease and protected. He had a great hug and you could fall asleep in his arms, but you weren't going to do that. You weren't a creep and it'd be weird.
"I'm always here to listen, y/n. You're not alone as you think you are. You have so many people who love and care about you, including me! The day I rescued you from the curse user, my heart broke." Yuji expressed what he felt during that fight. He even told you that he killed the lady for your sake, and it surprised you since he cares about human life. But he thought rationally and chose to do it for your sake.
You broke into a genuine smile, feeling your heart burst in reassurance. "It's great to know I'm not going to be alone,"
