The Little Mermaid (Mako Mermaid style)
A/N: so i was watching The Little Mermaid the other day and totally realized that Attina is the crown princess not Aquata, however I think I am going to keep it as Aquata so I don't have to go back and change things. Sorry.
Chapter Five: Full Moons
"Ariel, how are you feeling?" Rita asked, entering the grotto. Ariel looked up at her, eyes bloodshot. Rita felt terrible for her niece. she had been despondent and depressed since returning from Mako Island, but she hadn't said anything to Rita about what had happened. for the last week she barely ate, she never went swimming and she mostly stayed curled up in a ball. Rita went to sit next to her.
"Are you ever going to tell me what happened?" she asked softly.
"I failed" Ariel whispered, but Rita still heard her.
"Oh honey, don't blame yourself for not finding the trident..." she trailed off as Ariel stood up looking furious.
"I did find it" she said fiercely, "but now Ursula has it..and she took my tail as well. I can never go home and I can never free my family. I am a failure" she collapsed in tears and Rita pulled her into a hug.
"Maybe I can go," Rita mused. "I look like Athena, it might be enough to startle her so I can grab the trident"
"No!" Ariel cried out, "Please don't go. I can't lose anyone else" Rita nodded. later at school, Zac, Evie and Cam entered the principal's office.
"How is she?" Zac asked, worried. He hadn't seen her since the disastrous adventure on Mako.
"She's hurting" Rita replied. "She feels like she failed her family" Evie and Cam still felt terrible and decided to cut school to go see Ariel. they waited until Zac had gone to class which neither of them had with him, and they hurried to Rita's house. The front door was locked, but Cam was able to use his credit card to open the door. they looked around the very nice house.
"Ariel...are you here?" Evie called. Cam was looking at the bookshelf. there was something odd about it. he pulled a book out and the shelf swung open. Evie and Cam made their way into the grotto and saw Ariel sitting with her feet in the water, looking at them as if willing them to change back into a tail.
"What are you two doing here?" she asked.
"We came to apologize" Evie said. "We were wrong to follow you and Zac and because of us, you lost everything"
"I may be a mermaid, but i know about relationships" Ariel said. "I should have let Zac tell you what was going on, and I am sorry he kept secrets from you" Evie sat down next to her.
"Zac told us everything" she said. "He even told us that what happened to him has happened before"
"That's right" Ariel replied. Evie bit her lip.
"Well, I was wondering, what if you went to this moon pool, as Zac called it, during the full moon?" she asked. "Would you get your tail back?" Ariel's eyes widened. she hadn't actually thought about that, but it could work. finally she sighed.
"Even if it worked, my aunt still has the trident. the moment I entered Oceania, I would be arrested" Ariel replied.
"Even so, I know how much you must miss being a mermaid. We start there, with getting you a tail back, and then we can plan a way to free your kingdom" Ariel smiled slightly.
"We don't even know if it will work" she said.
"Its better than not trying" Cam spoke up. Ariel realized they were right.
"Ok" she said, next full moon she would try it and see if she could get her tail back.
"Now come on, lets go get a juice at the cafe" Ariel smiled and got up.
after school, Zac couldn't find Cam or Evie, so he was really surprised when he entered the cafe and saw both of them sitting in a booth with Ariel and the three were laughing and talking. He slid into the booth after ordering a juice.
"Hey Ariel, its great to see you" he said, smiling. Ariel smiled back.
"Evie thinks if I go to Mako on the full moon I can restore my tail" Ariel told him.
"That's a great idea" Zac said. "I hope it works" Ariel nodded.
"Me too" she replied.
at the next full moon, Zac, Cam and Evie told their parents that they were camping at Mako. once they reached the island, they went to the moon pool. as soon as the full moon shone overhead, Ariel jumped into the water. she could almost feel her body changing as her feet turned into a tail. she turned and grinned at her new friends. She pulled herself out of the water and sat on the edge.
"Now, the question is, how do we save my family?" she asked.
"I think we need to do some research" Zac replied. "there is alot of stuff on mermaids and magic out there and obviously it is not all fake as we have come to realize" Evie nodded.
"There has to be something that can help us" she said, "perhaps we can even find an object that is stronger than the trident" As they were discussing things, Ariel's mind began to wander.
"Maybe my grandfather can help" she muttered, but they all heard her.
"Whose your grandfather?" Zac asked at the same time that Evie said,
"Wouldn't your grandfather be locked up to" Ariel smiled at both of them.
"Actually after my father became king, my grandfather retired and left the sea" Ariel replied. "he visits us a lot, but he was not in Oceania when Ursula attacked"
"So, where do we find him?" Zac asked.
"I don't think you can come with me," Ariel replied.
"Why not?" Cam asked. Ariel took a deep breath, collecting her thoughts before responding.
"Only a god or a demigod can enter mount Olympus and demi gods can't live there they can only visit" (if I got this wrong I am sorry, but this is my story and doesnt have to be exactly aligned with greek mythology). all three of her friends.
"Mount Olympus!"
"gods?"
"whose your grandfather?"
was all said at once. Ariel laughed.
"It depends" she replied. "Some stories have given him the name Poseidon and others call him Neptune, but I just call him grandfather" it was completely silent at the table as Zac, Evie and Cam digested this information. Ariel stood up.
"I need to go, I promise I will be safe and I will let you know anything I find out" she told them. they still looked a bit dazed. she giggled and left the juice bar, intent on finding her grandfather and hoping he had an idea on how to get the trident away from Ursula.
