Chapter 2, Part 1 - Trouble child & Aspiring investigator

Standing guard outside her family's tent was an enforcer girl, not exactly what she'd like to be doing but not much she can do about it when her mother had apparently made sure she'd be stuck here. Inside her family's tent her mother was praising Jayce to no end about his new inventions and how they're a great asset for the city of Piltover. Suddenly, Caitlyn felt a tap on her hat, turning around she saw Jayce standing behind her sneakily.

"What's up Cait?" He said, Caitlyn looked over Jayce's shoulder and saw her mom giving her a dissatisfied look. Turning back again and looking out of the tent with Jayce now again, behind her.

"You still avoiding her?"

"I'm working" She quickly retorted to his question.

"Oh I can see that, I mean there has to be a lot of crime to thwart outside of your family's tent right?" He said sarcastically, chuckling a little at his own joke.

"I can only imagine the strings she had to pull to keep me posted here." Caitlyn knew her mother tried to keep her away from seeing the 'real world' as best she could, but she was having none of it.

"I mean it's your fault really, not following her into a career 'more befitting your station'." Caitlyn let out an audible sigh

"She'd do anything to keep me from seeing the real world."

"Well you know, at least you'll have front row seats to the speech."

"Speech?" she said, turning around a giving Jayce a confused but mildly interested look.

"That's right, I'm actually giving the big address tonight, believe it or not." Caitlyn snorted and rolled her eyes a bit.

"Oh I believe it, seems like we've really descended into anarchy."

"Alright I've gotta get back, have fun herding the drunkards Cait." He chuckled and walked back into the tent ready for more overwhelming attention.

Good for him, he's finally getting some recognition for all his work She thought while getting back to keeping watch and making sure no 'drunkards' made trouble.

In another place, at the same time, we see Sevika. She'd just received a task from Silco, he'd said.

"I have contact in Piltovers Hexgate docks, he'll take care of our shimmer shipment. He'll also know what aircraft is ours, no worries. Just give him the promised amount of money."

They were starting to get close to the docks.

"Alright everyone, let me handle the talking, you guys just stand on the sides and look a bit tough yea?" She said to her little group of bad guys. She got a collective of nods and *huffs* in approval.

Where is that girl? She was supposed to come along, no idea why honestly but what Silco says goes. Sevika thought to herself as they just arrived at the docks, preparing to make contact with Silcos 'friend'.

Down below in the storage space sat a girl on a makeshift swing, dangling her legs back and forth thinking about stuff. She'd heard about what was being showcased this Progress day from listening in on a conversation between Silco and Marcus, the sheriff. And from what she'd heard it sounded incredibly powerful.

A small ball with enough power to make anything work… imagine all the fun stuff i could create with that! She started chuckling to herself with all the fun ideas she had in mind. And then, all of a sudden a girl came walking out from one of the dark corners in the storage and Claggor started humming quietly, she looked just like she had back then when she left her behind, her sister Vi.

"Leave me alone" she said to Vi "You're dead so just, leave me alone already."

Powder… I'm not dead, I'd never allow myself to die before i get to meet you again... Vi said back to her. The girl on the swing chuckled darkly.

"Yea right, you left me to die, you didn't love me back then."

Powder I…

"GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" She yelled at Vi, closing her eyes and holding her head with both hands. Giving the hallucination a sad face and making her walk back to her dark corner.

Oh Jinx, now you made Vi sad. Again. She heard Mylo say from somewhere, but she didn't care. Why can't everyone just, shut up… a small sob left her.

Up above things were progressing as they should, Sevika had handed over the money to the contact and things seemed like they were going fine. But then they came…

"FIRELIGHTS!" Sevika yelled to warn everyone of the enemy that had engaged them. Before Sevika and her gang could do much though they were all bombarded with some kind of crystallization bomb that exploded on contact into a bunch of crystals and grew around their bodies, locking them into place like a cage.

"Burn it all" Someone from the Firelights group said to the rest. And so they did, barrels were getting kicked over and dumped all over the ship. Things were starting to look really grim for their smuggling mission to top side.

"You guys, get down there and see if there's anything more." And so 2 guys started making their way down into the storage were one lonely girl was sitting on her makeshift swing, battling her own demons.

As the two Firelights got down the ladder to the storage they couldn't see much, it was really dark down here. They did however see a lot of more barrels, likely filled with even more shimmer. And all the way in the back they heard a creaking noise. This is fucking creepy both of them thought. And then the hatch closed behind them, locking them into the storage and now they saw a bunch of spray can painted… pink monkey faces?

They quickly realized what this meant "Fuck… she's here." One of them said, recognizing the symbols that were drawn all over the place.

Now on high alert, they slowly made their way forward but all of a sudden one of the two Firelights got yanked up into the air by something and quickly let out a painful gasp. Blood started dripping from where he had disappeared to.

"Show yourself bitch!" The last Firelight yelled, attempting to intimidate whatever it was that was down here with him but he also said it a bit out of fear, shocked at what had just happened to his friend.

All he heard back was a low giggle coming from further into the storage space.

"Fucking bitch" he mumbled to himself as he made his way forward.

"Come and get me!" She said with a playful tone as a light turned on in the back of the storage. The man started walking slowly towards the light, on high alert. As he reached the light it turned off, engulfing the man and the rest of the room in complete darkness.

"Stop fucking around and just come at me!" he was starting to get annoyed and impatient. Taking a few more steps forward he bumped into something on the ground

"What the…" Two grenades in front of his face, big wicked smiles spray painted in pink, purple and green on them.

"Bye bye!" Came her cheerful voice from each grenade as she started giggling loudly. And just a few seconds later, the grenades went off, blowing everything close by to bits.

Where the fuck is Jinx!? Sevika thought while still being stuck to the wall from the earlier crystallization grenades. And just a few seconds later there was a loud explosion coming from down where she was supposed to be and the hatch to the aircraft storage blew open, a lot of smoke coming out. And then shyly stepping out of the smoke came Jinx, with an uncertain but happy look on her face.

"Hiii~" Jinx said like she was entering a friends house. Everyone paused for a second, but then the action began, all of the remaining Firelights going all out on Jinx trying to subdue or kill her.

The first one sneakily came up behind her, but as if Jinx had spider senses, she ducked out of the way just before a big pipe with some sort of blade attached to it swung above her head. "Gotta do better then that" She said with a smile, tripping the sneaky assassin with her foot and shooting him in the face once with her trusty pistol. And then the next one came at her full speed from the front, Jinx used the momentum of the punch coming at her and threw the aggressor over her shoulder but there's was no pause, another one came at her right away, this one got right up in her face with a pistol but just as she was about to shot Jinx grabbed a hold of her wrist, disarmed her and hit her face real hard with the butt of the gun, which in turn made the mask that all the Firelights wear fall from her face.

Slightly returning to her senses, the Firelight girl looked back at Jinx, her face now revealed.

Jinx was in complete shock "V… Vi?" she said with a bit of a crack in her voice, her hand tightly gripping the girls wrist, not letting her go. The girl who looked very much like Vi just looked at Jinx with confusion and disgust.

Vi? She's here? No… nono, no she's dead there's no way she'd be here now, she's dead stop seeing things Jinx! The girl with pink hair tried to struggle free from Jinx's grip but Jinx was just to strong compared to her it seemed, and she was just standing there, as if she'd just turned off all of a sudden.

I love you Powder Jinx heard the girl say which made her look at her sharply now, at full attention again. I'm here now, I'll never leave you again she continued.

"No, stop talking to me, you're dead so just stop already!" Jinx shouted at the girl in her grasp. The pink haired girl was just getting more and more confused each second, who was Jinx talking to?

And then someone came from behind Jinx, trying to get a hit in while she was distracted. Too bad she wasn't actually that distracted anymore, she jumped out of the way and released the pink haired girl while doing so.

Hah! I knew I was right leaving you behind, you're so useless, you're a fucking jinx! Jinx heard from the pink haired girls direction. She snapped. Putting her pistol back into her holster she quickly brought her mini gun out and started raining down hell on everything around.

"Fuck you! I did the best I could you know, why can't you just love me for who I am Vi!" Jinx shouted as she started shooting. "Why can't you all just see that I've grown up!? I'M READY TO HELP!"

She saw Milo to the left, laughing at her.

Haha yea right, as if you'd ever be of help, you're a jinx and you know it, you always fuck everything up! The shade of Milo said from the left of her, she switched her aim and instantly started shooting in that direction. Destroying barrels of shimmer and hurting allies still stuck within crystals from earlier. This continued for about one minute of shouting back and forth with her hallucinations and shooting at everything she thought was there.

As she finally came out of her own fucked up world she saw what had happened. The aircraft was now a complete wreck and most of the shimmer was spilled and burning up, completely wasted.

"You were supposed to guard the cargo Jinx!" Sevika said coming up behind her, a big scowl on her face. All Jinx did In response was give her a brief chuckle. And then the alarms went off signifying it was time to leave, quickly.

"Caitlyn!" She heard someone yell loudly. "Caitlyn, there's been an emergency at the Hexgate docks! Come with me right now, we need as many enforcers as we can get!" The one yelling at her was her sheriff, Marcus, so she asked no questions and followed him close behind at a quick pace.

Finally something fucking happens, hope it's not too bad though… She thought as she ran.

After they arrived at the docks they saw what had happened. One of the ships was on fire with a bunch of holes in it's sides. Debris was also scattered across the nearby ground.

"What could've caused this…" Caitlyn mumbled to herself as they approached one of the dock workers that had been waiting for the enforcers to give them a report on what he'd seen of the event.

"Citizen, report" Marcus said to him.

"Ah— Yes sir! I… I didn't see how it all began but I did see how the ship got destroyed." The dock worker told them and Marcus just motioned for him to continue his report.

"I was standing quite a bit away to avoid taking any damage myself but I did see a bunch of people on the aircraft, I couldn't really make out any faces though, and some of them were wearing masks."

Masks? Hmmm… Could it be that? Guess I'll have to see for myself if there's anything I can find on the ship. Caitlyn thought as she heard the report.

"There was this woman with bright blue hair that appeared out of nowhere all of a sudden. And then she seemed to just go insane and started shooting at everyone and everything. That's most likely what all the holes in the hull are. And the fire was caused by the ones with masks, they set fire to… Whatever was in those barrels that came with the aircraft." Finished with his explanation of what had happened the dock worker looked down waiting for some kind of response from the sheriff standing before him.

"I see… Thanks for the report citizen, you've done well. Now please leave us and let us do our work." Marcus said to him and so he swiftly left the scene. "Alright everyone search through the ship and find out what happened. Caitlyn, you can go back to your post at your familys tent now… Caitlyn?" Little did they know, during the lengthy report Caitlyn had sneaked on to the ship and started her own little search.

A few minutes earlier, Caitlyn was standing on the ship were Jinx had been standing before, shooting everything around her. She'd found one of her grenades earlier, more of those markers… Caitlyn thought to herself as she was sure she'd seen these markers before. Not seeing anymore notable about the top side of the ship she decided to make her way down into the storage. As soon as she entered she had to cough because of all the smoke and the smell… I think there might be dead people down here. And sure enough, taking out her flashlight she quickly noticed a dead man hanging from the ceiling, blood trailing down his body. Oh god… There is dead people down here… Caitlyn also noticed that same symbol on a lot of different things around the room and then she heard a quiet sound from somewhere… underneath her? Looking down she saw a grill in the floor, taking it off and putting it to the side, sure enough there was a big man looking up at her and wincing from pain it looked like, he was clutching his side with one arm.

"What happened here? Who are you working for?" Caitlyn asked him trying to not make him scared. The man stared at her "I can't tell you, he'll kill me" He said back.

"If you tell me what happened here I'll make sure you get out of here without trouble at your back."

"The… the girl, she's fucking crazy, I don't know why he keeps her around."

"The girl? Who is this girl?

"I—" The man started but at that moment some of the rest of the enforcers came up behind her, including the sheriff, Marcus.

"Caitlyn… Interfering with another investigation, I should have expected this from you" Marcus told her with a disappointed voice and pointed towards the exit.

"But! I'm onto something here Marcus, this is more then just some smugglers, just let me ask him a few more questions and I'll surely figure out who did all this!" Caitlyn told Marcus desperately, but he was having none of it. Looking at her he gave her a harsh look that told her everything.

"Oh and Caitlyn, since you're looking for more work it seems you can take the graveyard shift tonight at the fair, now go back to your mother's tent. And so Caitlyn left but not before hearing Marcus say "Restrain him, I want him on a boat to still water prison."

"She fired on us!" Sevika said to Silco, both sitting in his office in the undercity. Above them was Jinx listening to it all without Sevika's knowledge.

"Sometimes, mishaps like this happens. The firelights were her target and most of them are dead, from what I've heard." Silco replied with little care in his voice.

"It wasn't a mishap, she froze up and lost her shit. I could've handled those brats easily. She's a problem Silco and we all know it." She said, taking another swig of alcohol to calm herself down.

"We? Who exactly are we Sevika? It was your job to make sure that things went smoothly, you failed. Don't disappoint me again." Hearing this Sevika let out a grunt and left Silco's office to go smash something to bits, most likely.

"The world is growing smaller each day thanks to the hexgates, we're being left behind and cut off from the rest of the world…" Silco said to no one in particular.

Then there was a silence in the air before Silco decided to finally speak up. "What happened up there?"

"She already told you." Came Jinx voice from above

"I'm asking you" Silco said back. Jinx jumped down from the ceiling and sat down on Silco's desk. Clutching her knees and putting her head in her arms.

"One of those, Firelight idiots was a girl…" she said, Silco looking at her, asking for more. "And she had pink… pink hair." she continued, Silco looked at her with a bit of guilt in his eyes and gave her his dosage for his eye that Jinx has come to enjoy administering for him.

Jinx took it from him and got into position to apply it.

"Your sister's dead." He said, cold voice like usual. "You know that as well as I do."

"I know, I know." She said sadly "sisters right? Can't live with 'em, can't stuff 'em back in the old babymaker." Chuckling to herself as she spoke. Blowing on his dosage a bit, making it do a 'funny' sound, trying to take her mind off things.

"I miss her, you know?…" She finally said after a bit of a pause in the conversation. "I can't stop thinking about her…"

"Jinx… you can't keep torturing yourself like this…" Silco said and brought his hand to her cheek, stroking it gently. "Your sister won't come back, no matter how much you wish for it. That's just the cruel reality you now live in." A tear came from one of her eyes which she wiped away instantly, not wanting to look weak in front of Silco.

"I know…" She said, taking his hand of her face. Silco leaned back in his chair and looked at her for a bit before continuing.

"Today's screw up will set us back weeks Jinx…"

"I'm sorry" she said as she leaned on him. And proceeded to play around with his dosage some more.

"I need to know, that I can rely on you Jinx, what you did today can not happen again." Silco got a bit agitated by the fact that she seemed so unfocused on the conversation, so grabbed her wrist that was playing with his dosage a bit harsh to get her attention.

"I'm doing this for all of us Jinx, the sons and daughters of Zaun deserve more than their runoff." Jinx Looked conflicted in her face and pulled away from his grip

"It won't happen again." She said, but she didn't really believe what she said. She knew they would come back to haunt her eventually, like they always do. But Silco didn't know the full extent of her problems and so he believed in her.

Done with that little conversation Jinx started aiming the dosage at Silco's eye and applied it to him, making him quiver in pain for just seconds before he let out a deep sigh.

"Sevika will clean up today's mess" he said, this made Jinx a bit mad, and jealous.

"Sevika!? That ogre wouldn't even be able to clean a dust bunny with a blow torch."

"I think she'll manage just fine, you should focus on developing your… gadgetry some more." Jinx got a frustrated for being brushed aside "Take some time" Silco finished turning around in his chair and looking away from Jinx and out the windows instead.

"I-I-I don't need time." Jinx stammered out while lying on Silco's desk, playing with a knife in her hands.

"Take it anyhow" He said back. Jinx let out a frustrated sigh sat up and got of his desk. Exiting his office, not feeling up to speaking with him anymore.
