Mulder was finishing up getting ready and doing some last minute packing for their time in Wisconsin, double and triple checking that he had all of the case files and necessary resources. As he was making his way through the lobby to wait on Scully to come pick him up, a familiar face waved at him. Julie was standing at the mail boxes, Mulder walked over to her to make small talk with her. "Getting ready to fly out, huh?" She smiled, looking down to sort through her mail that had just been delivered to her new address. "Yeah, I'm waiting on my partner to come pick me up." He replied. He wasn't good at bullshit small talk, only when it was needed for the situation. "Oh, I guess he should be getting here any minute if you're flying out at 9:45." Julie glanced at her watch.
He?
"Actually, she's coming to pick me up." Mulder said, wondering what gave her the impression that Scully was a man. He did talk about Scully last night, didn't he? "Oh," Julie looked up from her mail, "I just figured. You did say you were single."
Why is it just because my partner is a woman that I have to be sleeping with her? Well.. I guess I would if given th-
"It looks like she's here actually. I'll walk you out, I was leaving to go to work anyway." Julie interrupted Mulder's thoughts. They walked out of the building together as he approached Scully's car, he opened the trunk and placed his suitcase in the back alongside hers. Scully's eyes hadn't left Julie since they walked out of the building together.
Was that the reason why Mulder was acting so strange? He didn't want to tell me he was seeing someone? Why would he think I care?
She thought to herself as she heard the muffled conversation between Mulder and this woman. Of course.. some tall, thin, blonde caught his attention. Scully kept looking at them, trying not to be obvious that she was staring. She was studying their body language towards each other, maybe trying to catch of glimpse of a flirtatious gesture or a hair twirl from her. Mulder grabbed the door handle and before he could open the door, she placed a kiss on his cheek. Scully raised an eyebrow and decided that she had watched enough. Why should she feel jealous? He wasn't hers anyway. Mulder opened the door, Scully tried to keep up her usual stoic exterior as he got into her car. "No good morning, huh?" he sarcastically remarked. "I see you've had a good one so far." she replied. "Oh.. she's just overly friendly. She's southern."
Is she jealous?
Mulder wondered as Scully hadn't even looked at him yet. They began their journey to the Ronald Reagan airport, there was tension between them and even though they knew why, they couldn't admit it to themselves what it was actually about. Scully parked and they got their bags out of the car, Mulder handed her her ticket before they made their way inside. Scully was never the jealous type, especially around Mulder. She didn't understand what this newfound emotion was that she couldn't distance herself from. They boarded the plane, hardly saying more than a few words to each other. Scully brought her briefcase on the plane to be able to study the files and the autopsy that she did, just to make sure she didn't miss anything. Studying the photos of the postmortem examination, Mulder was looking over at her files. "Have any ideas yet?" He asked. "No.. not quite yet," Scully replied not looking up from her photos, "I just don't understand how that much water was in her lungs without an obvious cause of drowning. What about you?" She set the photos down on her lap before looking up at Mulder. "May be a friend of the initial victim who died in the hazing incident, who is seeking revenge.. you know how girls are." Mulder said smiling while Scully rolled her eyes after he says something like that.
They continued to discuss different aspects of their investigation such as, who they were going to meet with first, who they would question first to get the investigation going. They landed in Wisconsin finally, thankfully it was summer time and there wasn't the need for the giant overcoats and freezing their asses off. They met with the police officers first, getting more background on the case. After being given a few pointers about where to look and who to investigate, they made their way to the University of Wisconsin campus. "Go Badgers, Scully." Mulder said as they parked in front of the sorority house that their victims were in. "I guess they really are trying to get rid of us, Mulder, getting us to investigate spoiled rich kids who drink too much on the weekends." Scully scoffed a little. "Don't act like you didn't have some wild weekends when you were in college." Mulder smiled, imagining the serious and stoic Dana Scully being absolutely wasted. "I may have gotten into some trouble when I was at Maryland." She said, looking down a little to avoid Mulder seeing her blush a little, she had such great memories when she was an undergrad. She dreamed she was going to be a respected doctor, but now she's what Mulder refers to as the "FBI's Most Unwanted." They sit down in a storage room essentially and investigate cases that other agents didn't want to investigate. "Did you party quite a bit at Oxford?" Scully asked, looking up at Mulder. "Yeah, I did a good bit. It was England so I didn't have to wait to be 21." He smiled and she did as well seeing him smile.
Why does he have such a warm smile? Why is it so contagious?
Scully thought to herself, bringing herself back to the moment. "Why don't we head inside." She said, opening the door and getting out. They both walked to the front door of this multimillion dollar mansion, knocking on the door they're greeted by a student. "Hi.. um a-are you looking for anyone in particular?" She asked, they both got out their badges. "I'm Agent Mulder, this is Agent Scully we're here investigating the death of the women of your sorority that died recently." Mulder said, "May we come in?"
"Oh.. um uh yes of course." The student said before moving out of the way so the agents could come in. Mulder and Scully shared a look, trying to gauge if the student was just nervous or if maybe there was something more sinister going on. They walk in and look around at the pink decoration that adorn the halls of the house, several other girls come into the foyer as they heard who was at the door. "Hello, what can we do to help you? I'm Evelyn Taylor, the president of the sorority." She smiled, particularly at Mulder. It took everything in Scully not to roll her eyes
Why are there always women to ogle Mulder but never any men for me? It would be nice to have the attention for once..
Scully thought to herself as they sat down with the women to talk more about the victims. "How close were you with the victims?" Mulder asked, the girls all looked at each other before looking back at the agents. "Well, there are a lot of us here in the sorority.. and they didn't live in the house so we weren't very close with them, they kind of kept to themselves since they were all close with each other." The agents looked at each other suspiciously at their answers. How convenient that the only people who were close with the victims were each other? "Did they have any significant others? Maybe someone they weren't on good terms with?" Scully asked. "Marlena has a boyfriend, he lives in one of the frat houses on the next road. His name is John Schmidt, he's in the Kappa Alpha fraternity." Evelyn replied. Something weird was going on here but maybe that could be the next place they could go to so maybe they will have some answers. Pretty much the rest of the questioning was useless so Mulder gave Evelyn his card in case she needed anything and they made their way out of the house. "Do you think they had anything to do with the murders?" Scully asked as they walked to the car. "Yeah, I think so. Did you see the way they would all look at each other when they answered the questions?" He said, before unlocking the car. Stuck underneath their windshield wiper was a flier for, you guessed it, a Kappa Alpha fraternity party that would be happening that night. Mulder read it and pulled it out from underneath the wiper before smiling at Scully. "Guess I better shave close tonight." He got in the car and Scully followed suit. "Are you seriously going to a frat party?" Scully asked, giving him her signature look when he has said something incredibly stupid. "Well they're all drunk and something might slip out." Mulder said, "Now I got to get the motel and get ready for a party." He smiled at Scully before turning on the car and driving back so they could check into the motel.
