-Chapter-25-
-Quinn pov-
Today is a day to get to know my family. My grandparents have everything ready. I also am here with Rachel, Fran, and my mom. We have been looking at old tapes of my moms recitals.
"So you could sing and dance?" Mom nods with a small smile "Why did you stop?"
"Women are meant to be seen not heard" She frowns as my dads words leave her mouth "I was afraid I would cost you two something if I kept going"
"Well now you know that you will not" Grandma stands up and walks over to the record "You always did love Sinatra!"
"I could not sing it if I wanted" Fran and I pout at her and she sighs "Fine! I will sing fly me to the moon!"
-Judy singing-
Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On a-Jupiter and Mars
In other words: hold my hand
In other words: baby, kiss me
Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words: please, be true
In other words: I love you
Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words: please, be true
In other words, in other words: I love you
"You still sound amazing!" Grandma hugs mom tightly "I have missed hearing your voice!"
"It is sad Emma could not join us" Grandpa looks over at Rachel "Are you musically talented?"
"Well I am quite the singer!" I groan with Fran as Rachel quickly dashes over to the records "Let me see what you all have in here! I bet you have a great collection!"
"Such a charmer" i raise a eyebrow at my lip biting grandma "Always could use some excitement"
"NO!" Fran frowns and I try to forget what I just heard "You can not steal our girlfriend!"
"Well she looks so adorable!" I look at Rachel bent over while my grandma does too "I mean look at that tail end! I mean wow!"
"What about grandpa?" I turn and see him snoring "Is he ok?"
I look at grandma who is frowning "Mamaw?" She looks at me slowly "What is wrong with pap? Why are you flirting about our girl?"
"He has had a tumor that comes back" As tears form in her eyes "We keep trying but he has just given up on it going away"
"So he is dying and you flirt with their girlfriend?" Mom stands up angry "What the hell?!"
"He told me I have to try moving on!" Grandmas tears fall down "I am trying to find my type again..I am trying to find myself again"
"I found one!" Rachel pops in a record with a smile "I think that this is an amazing song and I did not at all hear everything you said!"
-Rachel singing-
Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go 'til we're gone
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
You're here, there's nothing I fear
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
"Thanks Rachel" Grandma walks toward the kitchen "I think my cookies are done! Rachel please never repeat what you over heard from me!"
"Ok!" Grandma walks out and Rachel smirks at us "So do you two think I have a big butt?"
"I think it is average" Rachel glares and points to the records "I am sorry! Do not make me have to do this!"
"Record now!" Fran pouts all the way to the box "I guess you should have just paid the compliment!"
"Rachel you can not be mad for honesty" I see my mom trying to stop me too late and I sigh "I will find a song too"
"Smart choice" Rachel goes to the couch as Grandma Peggy comes back "Oh cookies!"
"Vegan chocolate chip cookies!" Rachel smiles and lays her head in her shoulder "You are so nice"
"Well I am doin this" Fran pops in a record "This will get her on my side again"
-Fran singing-
Don't tell me not to live
Just sit and putter
Life's candy and the sun's
A ball of butter
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade
Don't tell me not to fly
I've simply got to
If someone takes a spill
It's me and not you
Who told you you're allowed
To rain on my parade!
I'll march my band out
I'll beat my drum
And if I'm fanned out
Your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it!
But whether I'm the rose
Of sheer perfection
Or freckle on the nose
Of life's complexion
The cinder or the shiny apple of its eye
I gotta fly once
I gotta try once
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy
Juicy, and you see
I gotta have my bite, sir!
Get ready for me, love
Cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march
My heart's a drummer
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade!
I'm gonna live and live now
Get what I want, I know how
One roll for the whole shebang
One throw, that bell will go clang
Eye on the target, and wham
One shot, one gun shot, and bam
Hey, Mister Arnstein, here I am!
I'll march my band out
I'm beating my drum
And if I'm fanned out
Your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it
Get ready for me, love
'Cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march
My heart's a drummer
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!
"Great choice!" Rachel pats beside her "I fit in with the crazy that is your family"
"Yes you do my big butted girl" Rachel cuddles into Fran as she sits "You got a song Lucy?"
"Yes!" I look and grab out a record "This one by Elton John!"
-Quinn singing-
When are you gonna come down
When are you going to land
I should have stayed on the farm
I should have listened to my old man
You know you can't hold me forever
I didn't sign up with you
I'm not a present for your friends to open
This boy's too young to be singing the blues
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road
What do you think you'll do then
I bet that'll shoot down your plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics
To set you on your feet again
Maybe you'll get a replacement
There's plenty like me to be found
Mongrels who ain't got a penny
Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road
"Good Oz reference" I smile as Rachel pats beside her when grandma moves "Come sit! We shall eat cookies and talk!"
"My god she is crazy" I sit down and cuddle into her side "I could never be more happy to be with crazy"
