"You want to talk to Katherine? Why?"

"I need more information about this Klaus guy."

"And you're having me go because?"

"Stefan and Damon said I couldn't?"

"Something that makes sense. Fine, I'll help you talk to Katherine."

"Thanks, Care."

"The famous Elena Gilbert."

"Katherine."

"To what do I owe the … um, pleasure isn't exactly right. To what do I owe your company?"

"I need to know about Klaus."

"No beating around the bush, I'm impressed."

"So?" Elena was trying her hardest to appear in control.

"He wants to break the curses he's under. One of them can be cured with the use of our blood. Well, back when I was human. He also needs a werewolf and a vampire sacrifice."

"I doubt they're going to be sacrificing themselves," she commented.

"Why don't you ask him?" Katherine asked Caroline.

"Ask a thousand and something-year-old vampire to ask for vampires willing to die? Let's say he did agree with that if no one else volunteered, I would have to. And I would like to live a bit longer, thank you very much."

"Thought about that a lot, have you? I think you'll survive this ritual, same as I will. If you want tips on dealing with Klaus, just know that he's a romantic at heart." Katerina almost laughed at what she was saying, but neither girl noticed.

"I'm in a relationship," Elena immediately defended. "And Bonnie has magic to focus on."

"I heard he has a thing for Blondes," Katherine added, incredibly helpfully.

"I am not seducing him! The last time my 'I don't date' rule was broken, well I wouldn't like to repeat it."

"I was just sharing the information I've gathered over the centuries, and Klaus wouldn't do that to you."

"You know what happened?" Caroline asked, not liking the idea.

"How would we kill him?" Elena asked.

Caroline scoffed.

"What?"

"He's not someone you kill, you either stay on his good side, run for the rest of your life, or stay off of his radar."

"And which one do you plan on doing?" Katherine asked.

"I doubt I would stay off his radar for long even if I wanted to. So, I'll stay on his good side. Again, don't want to die."

"In your case, both of your cases really, surviving and being on Klaus' 'good side' aren't mutually exclusive."

"What do you mean? He's trying to take my blood, I assume he wants all of it!"

"He probably will unless someone brings up alternatives."

"Why are you lying to me?! Are you working with him? I need to leave." Elena stormed off.

"It would be as easy as bringing up an alternative?" she asked quietly.

"As I said earlier, romantic at heart. It's honestly disturbing.

"Do you know where one could offer such an alternative?"

"He'll show up soon."

"Wait! Bonnie's fighting Klaus?"

"Yes, Blondie, Bon Bon is attempting to kill the Big Bad."

"Where is she?"

"Klaus is in Ric's body by the way. They're in that room with the doors and the trophy case. Are you really going after them? You're more stupid than I thought you were." She started running toward where he pointed. "And that's saying something!"

She reached the room that Bonnie was fighting Klaus in.

"Caroline, you shouldn't be here!"

"Bonnie. Stop!"

"What?! Are you kidding me? I'm not sure how much you know about him, but you should at least know he's going to kill Elena."

"Well, why don't we talk it out and, you know, maybe stop talking like he isn't right across the room from us."

"Acknowledging my presence, are you Love? I'm honored."

"So stop whatever witch-y stuff you're doing and let's have a conversation, do both of you agree to that?" she suddenly became a bit nervous about how presumptuous she was being, but let go of it because it was Elena's life at stake.

"You have a proposal for me, I presume."

"Yes, a deal of sorts between you and Elena. First question, do you need the blood from her directly or could you just collect blood bags over a couple of days? Healing her with vampire blood then taking more?"

"As long as it's a body full of her blood, it should work."

"So you were planning on draining her," Bonnie accused, but mostly aimed at Caroline.

"I won't deny that."

"For the vampire and werewolf sacrifices, find ones that want to die. Surely not everyone is happy with the immortal life, so find someone that actually volunteers."

"What would you give me in return? It seems like there are plenty of vampires and werewolves around here. "

"We would volunteer Elena's blood, making sure she was safe. I could even find the vampire and werewolf for you."

"Alright."

"Really?"

"You're doing all of the heavy-lifting for me, Love, why would I refuse your assistance?"

"Thank you."

"For not killing the dopplegänger? That is a low bar for gratitude. I'll have to help you more often."

"Why would you help us?" Bonnie questioned.

"I like to build loyalty through gratitude, I've found it makes a much stronger bond than fear."

"You want Caroline to what, join you?"

"She does seem to be quite the strategist. I would be inclined to work with her in the future if she wishes."

"She'll never join you!"

"You know, I'm getting a little tired of you two talking about me like I'm not here."

"Apologies, Love. Of course, I know you're here, your presence is impossible not to notice. But I should be leaving. I'll need about ten liters of dopplegänger blood by the morning of the 28th."

April 27, 2010

"I need you to give me the location of one of your patients that is going to die in the next few days," Caroline compelled a nurse at a hospital in Richmond. She had found a werewolf that wished to die because he wanted to see his recently killed girlfriend on the other side. She couldn't find a vampire, so she would make one.

"Hello, Elijah."

"Miss Gilbert. Where are we?"

"Part of the Salvatore Boardinghouse."

"I must be going," he attempted to leave through the door but was stopped.

"You haven't been invited into the rest of the house. We split up the deed."

"What do you want, Miss Gilbert?"

"Information on Klaus."

"What would you like to know?"

"Is he trustworthy?"

Elijah could not withhold his reaction but settled for a chuckle.

"Fine, if he makes a deal, will he stick to it?"

"As long as it benefits him."

"Does it benefit him to not kill me?"

"I assume you have a deal with him, from what you said earlier. What was it?"

"Caroline is finding a werewolf and vampire sacrifice for him and they gather my blood separately and use vampire healing."

"I think you will survive the ritual my brother is planning, I wouldn't worry. Now, could you let me out? Or did you have another question?"

"Katherine mentioned, well, first of all, is he working with her right now?"

"I see their interests aligning for the near future."

"Why? For this curse?"

"No, that's more of a goal for Niklaus. There's something else they both want to do in this town. I won't tell you what, but you will know when they succeed."

"You're so sure that they will."

"My brother is quite determined. More so than he is to break this curse."

"You can leave now, but I'll have to dagger you and bring you out. So I don't have to invite you."

"A sign of goodwill for the information I provided?"

"I don't think so."

"Ah, Caroline. Have the sacrifices I presume."

"Did you ask Elijah to follow me?"

"No? Elijah was following you?"

"That's how I found out where to bring the sacrifices."

"Personally, I think you can take care of yourself."

"Thanks. I also have half of the blood you need, I'll bring the other half tomorrow morning if that's okay?"

"Not a problem, Love."

"So this is your actual body? Much better than my history teacher. I mean, better than you being in the body of my history teacher."

"I think we both know what you meant, Love."

"So, what are you doing before the sacrifice tomorrow?" bringing the conversation away from her feelings, well not feelings, maybe? for Klaus.

"That depends on why you're asking."

"Oh! Uh, sorry, I was just curious."

"No need for apologies. I believe I've told you that a few times. You have no reason to apologize to me, Love. You've helped me a lot, actually. You have my eternal gratitude. So, if you ever find yourself in need of THE Original Hybrid, let me know, I'll be there. No matter how small it is. Or if you want to talk, I am capable of that as well."

"So you're saying you want to be friends?"

"I'd like that."

"I have the rest of the blood."

"Why don't you come inside?"

"Okay," she smiled at his invitation.

"So, this is where Klaus Mikaelson lives?"

"For now. Actually, Elijah and I are working to have a house built for us."

"You're planning on staying then?" she asked hopefully.

"For a little while anyway. We always seem to return to Mystic Falls every few centuries."

"Then I guess I'm glad you came when I was here to meet you."

He was about to respond when Elijah came inside.

"I should go. I'll see you, um. Well, I'm not really sure when, but."

"Are you not planning on attending the ritual?" Elijah asked, pleased but it was lost on Caroline.

"Would you want me there?" she asked Klaus.

"I always want you with me, Love."

"You want Caroline at the ritual?" He emphasized that he was referring to Caroline and not Kára as he would have called her.

"Do you disagree?"

"I do not believe you will be at your best."

"Elijah."

"It is your decision, I suppose."

"There's the Elijah we all love, manipulating me by acting as if you are leaving it up to me."

"It is your choice, brother."

"Ms. Forbes."

"Elijah? Or is it Mister Mikaelson?"

"Either is fine."

"So ..."

"Why am I here? Is that your question?"

"I had wondered."

"You are friends with my brother, are you not?"

"I think so."

"Regardless, if you do not wish to get hurt, do not attend the ritual tonight. In fact, stay in your home all night."

"I can understand where you're coming from."

"But you do not plan on following my advice?"

"Goodbye, Elijah."

'Klaus was expecting her, but Elijah said it could be dangerous. Even Elijah said that you were Klaus' friend, so it's time to be a friend. Even if he is a thousand-year-old, power-hungry hybrid.'

So Caroline was on her way to the ritual site. However, the full moon that night would end with more than a hybrid. She had forgotten about Tyler.

She was bitten, left prone on the forest floor before going unconscious.
